2001 yamaha yzf600-r6 motorcycle often leaking on motorcycle swingarm, chain, and shock. discolored aluminum parts and was forced to replace the chain due to the metal being eaten away. this has been an ongoing problem that yamaha usa would not acknowledge. the bike was checked at the dealer for possible problems and i was told that there was not anything wrong functionally.*ak

I have a 2001 road star silveraldo with 28000 miles. i changed my own oil at least every 3000 miles, along with filter. every time i drain the iol i find brass and aluminum in the bottom of the drain pan. there has also been a knock when i first start the bike, and occasionally during a long run. during the first season i took the bike back to the dealer several times due to the knock and tapping. the first winter yamaha replaced 2 hydraulic lifters because they would not hold a charge. this did not cure the metal in the oil. the next winter yamaha sent a rep. to see for himself the metal in the oil. they took an oil sample and sent it to yamaha. yamaha came back to the dealer (hitchingpost hopkins mn.) stating they would tear the motor down, if everything was within wear specifications i would have to pay for the tear down and rebuild. i elected not to trust yamaha and their specs. i did purchase the extended warranty so plan to ride until it sounds like it is about to come apart, then i know something will be out of specs. this is not right for yamaha not to stand by their product. there is no known reason for a motor with 28000 miles to have metal in the oil since it was new. i hope i catch the motor before it locks up, i would not like to have it lock up during a ride.*ak

Purchased yamaha midnight roadstar, learned through internet sites of transmission problems (lock ups resulting in rear tire lock ups and crashing - people being injured etc.) spoke with yamaha dealers who knew of no such problem - resulting in fear of riding said vehicle (which we had hundreds of dollars involved in upgrades and accessories) resulting in trading in on new victory motorcycle to alieve the fear (resulting in loss of hundreds of dollars). riding two up and with our knowledge unable to get any recognition from dealers of problems we sadly gave in and traded off at maxeys yamaha dealer in oklahoma city (also claiming no knowledge of problem. we felt very insecure riding this vehicle vin # was in the middle of vehicles reporting problems on internet chat type sites (one in particular being yamaha star touring and riding organization). basically we lost lots of money and down time(no riding) (no fun) agonizing fear when on the bike. riding at low speeds in case of malfunction occurrence. it was quite a beautiful bike with all that had been done to it.*ak

I have a 2001 yamaha raptor (atv). i know yamaha is aware of the problem because they fixed it for 2002. every 2001 raptor that i know of has had this happen. i was riding my atv when i heard a loud clung, my chain broke and i went over the handle bars. the transmission had locked up. this is a very common problem with the 2001 and i feel that yamaha should be responsible for the cost of repairing it in the way of a recall. they know they made a mistake and now need to take care of the customer before someone gets hurt. my atv has very low hours on it because of no time to ride. i know some friends that this happened to in less than 2 weeks after the purchase.*ak

2001 yamaha raptortransmission failure, transmission will lock up when under a load in 2nd gear.. completely locking up the back tires resulting in a possible crash situation.. this is the 2nd time this has happened to my 2001 yamaha raptor, first time was under factory warranty, purchased new in march of 01, failed may of 01. mine failed before the updated parts were avaialable from yamaha.. my transmission failed again in june of 05. i called yamaha motor corporation and my local dealer, both said that they have not heard of a known problem or a safety concern related to this transmission failure. i feel that a problem that will cause you to go into a uncontrolled skid at aprx 30 mph is very dangerous. luckily i was not hurt in this incident.

Vehicle is a 2001 yamaha road star, complaint is regarding crack forming in rear fender from excessive vibration and swaying. which in time will travel full width of fender and eventually fall off causing injury to rider, passenger or vehicles following.yamaha knows of this problem and even replaced all or most fenders in 1999,supposably yamaha reinforced fender where crack was forming now crack is forming in new location.road stars manufactured from 2000 to 2003 are affected by this problem, from what i have come to know 2004 road stars are reinforced in this problem area.many people have this problem and have complained to yamaha but they refuse to see it as a potential safety problem.*ak
