ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

While riding my motorcycle i experienced a sudden shutdown of the engine and lighting while riding in traffic. investigating i found a failure on an electrical connector in the wiring harness which overheated. there was no warning. researching on the internet i have found this to be a common problem with my yamaha fjr1300 motorcycle.

Main ignition switch wire connection may overheat due to electrical resistance. may become hot enough to melt the solder connecting the wire to the main switch. *tr

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - COOLING SYSTEM
04/28/200851
We purchased a new 2008 yamaha yzf-r6 and started riding it. we immediately noticed that there is a rather large amount of heat generated by the engine and the ducting from the radiator directs this superheated airflow right onto the lower legs of the rider. this is not much of an issue when the ambient temperatures are below 80 degrees f. anything higher and it will cause burns with blisters even through blue jean pants. my wife has ridden this bike about 10 times and every time it has been hot enough to burn her causing discomfort and red welps, this indicates a first degree burn where the outer layer of skin is damaged but still able to function. 2 of those times it caused actual blistering from the extreme heat directed onto the legs. this is indicative of second degrees burns where the outer layer of skin is damaged as well as the second layer( the dermis) this causes them to separate. the skin in this area can no longer function to protect the body or regulate temperature. this condition caused by the motorcycle results in a dangerous proposition for the rider as it causes bodily harm every time it is ridden in 80 degree temps or above. the burns can become infected and result in loss of limb or life if not taken care of properly. we have talked to the selling dealer and were informed that there was no revised parts or any thing we can do about the problem other than to trade it in on another model. this motorcycle should have the fairings redesigned to direct the airflow around the legs and away from any other body parts. the treatment we have received regarding this issue is also unacceptable. no remedy was ever offered to us other than trading the brand new motorcycle in on another model (and taking the loss from the trade in value). *tr

My grandson was riding his newly purchased yamaha raptor 250 atv. he was traveling at about 40 mph, when the motor fell out caused by all four motor mounts breaking away from the frame, this caused the chain to come off of the sprocket, bending the sprocket damaged the chain, seized up the bike as the chain was wrapped around the axle doing much damage to the rear axle, in turn it threw my grand son over the handle bars, damaging his helmet and cracking his ribs and bruising him badly. i contacted the local dealer , they referred me to customer service of yamaha, they ask me to take the bike to the dealer and to have the dealer take pictures, this was done ( 11pictures ) were sent, that was six weeks ago. neither the dealer or myself have heard from yamaha, and neither have we been able to contact them. i paid $4500.00 dollars for this bike and all i have is a bike totally unusable. 2008 yamaha raptor 250model yfm, the model # listed below is incorrect as their is no option to add the correct one. *tr

I have a 2008 atv 4x4 yamaha grizzly 700. this is the second time the gas boils, it's extremely scary sight. it releases the gas fumes while riding infront of the driver inhaling all the fumes all day. i had a headache the rest of the day after riding. i stop when i heard bubbling sounds coming from the gas tank and when i tried to open the tank the fumes were rushing out couldn't take off cap till all the fumes were gone. once cap was off you could see the gas boiling!!!!!!! here are some videos of other grizzly riders that their gas boils too! i can't believe yamaha was allowed to sell these atvs with this problems going on! here are the links to the videos. video links below: 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0dbfgzwl8g 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytdgevgk5nq 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov-spshqzsc please take actions against yamaha and protect consumers!!!! *tr
POWER TRAIN

This has been a problem since my motorcycle has been new. when i stop my motorcycle in 2nd gear, it will not shift into 1st gear unless i rock it a little after stopped. it will go into neutral, but not into 1st gear. this is extremely dangerous, especially if on a steep hill. i have reported it to the yamaha dealer who told me i needed to break in the transmission. after 3700 miles, it is still doing the same thing. i cannot not put the motorcycle into 1st gear when stopped without rocking it. i contacted yamaha technical support and they told me that i need to shift into 1st gear before i stop. i told them that this is not always safe or possible, especially when making a sudden stop. their response is that this is the way the motorcycle is designed. i informed them that if that is so, it is a serious design flaw that creates an unsafe situation. their response is that i have to shift into 1st gear before i stop; the problem is operator error if i do not. they are aware of this situation and do not see it as a problem. i have spoken with other fjr owners who do not have the same problem. i have ridden many different motorcycles over the past 45 years and have never experienced this situation before. based on the information i received from yamaha, it is a problem the technical department is aware of that exists in some yamaha fjrs. it seems to be a transmission defect or design flaw that is producing an unsafe condition that they do not see as their responsibility to remedy..

Brand new bridgestone front motorcycle tire size 120/70 zr 17. brand battlax bt-021. motorcycle bought new from dealer with standard issued tires in augsut 2010. front tire worn so badly at 2900 miles had to replace it. replaced by dealer with same exact new bridgestone tire. that tire has 4300 miles on it and is worn so bad i cannot drive it anymore. center tip of the tire is fine, the rest of the tire is bald and looks like a sander was taken to it. feels like riding on a tightrope. dealer inspected front end alignment and found no issues. roads i travel are mostly flat and very few corners. i ride within posted speed limits. i contacted bridgestone headquartes in nashville tn in feb 2012. spoke to a man a few times and he checked into the problem. i told him i would send the tires to him for personal professional inspection. he declined to look at them. he got back to me a few days later and said, sport touring bikes go through a lot of tires. i told him the tires are dangerous and my life is at risk to serious injury or death due to this product. again, no help from this company representative. i feel that the bridgestone tire company has a dangerous product that should be recalled. the complaint is widespread on the forums. a front motorcycle tire when used properly should last more than a few thousand miles. i would like to formally register a complaint against bridgestone tire. i deem this particular model of tire to be both dangerous and costly to the consumers who purchase this product. if one life or accident can be prevented by a recall on this motorcycle tire, it will be worth my efforts to stand up against this inferior product. thank you.
