Stuck valves on a 2007 yamaha road star with only 800 miles on it. i only rode it for 6 days. dealer put 350 miles on it before my purchase. also, hard crone pipes. from my investigation after the fact, road star clinic web site), this was a common problem since the earlier years of the road star. now i wait around with no motorcycle for the dealer to get around to fixing it. *ak

2nd reported occurence - motorcycle loss power on rear cylinder again. valve stuck open causing bike to almost stop on route 2 in heavy traffic. yamaha refusing to fix properly. just reaming the valve guides again. only put 4,000 miles on since repaired last time. customer service feels this is acceptable. apparently yamaha knows they have this issue with the roadstar. but feels the few that contract this issue they can bandaid until either it's out of warranty. or the owner gets discouraged enough to sell the vehicle.

Fuel filter assembly 5px-24560-00 had an incorrect tolerance fit and began leaking fuel on to the engine. luckily the unit stayed together while the motorcycle was traveling. upon replacing part it simply fell apart and caused all fuel in the tank to drain. failure during travel would likely cause a fire and injury or death to the rider. *tr

Carburetor spills gas all over hot exhaust on restart after riding. happens when engine is hot. hard to restart. very dangerous. leaves pool of gas under hot bike. i own 2 of these bikes and they both do it. yamaha does not acknowledge that a problem exist. *tr

Gas pukes out of the carburetor onto hot exhaust pipes when engine is restarted after running on a warm day. trouble restarting engine. pukes out enough to leave a puddle under bike. happens all the time. service people just said that it was the nature of the beast. this will cause a fire one day. i hear this complaint from a lot of roadstar owners. yamaha does not acknowledge a problem. dates of incident range in all summer months since ownership. bought bike new from dealership. *tr

 1. riding motorcycle for about 50 minutes, outside air temperature is above 80 degrees. parked motorcycle and returned to it 15 minutes later. 2. unable to restart engine, strong smell of gasoline, small amount of gasoline coming from bottom of vent tube. generally occurs when engine is very hot. 3. let engine cool 10-20 minutes, waited for gas smell to dissipate, able to restart. no parts replaced.

I recently took a motorcycle trip to colorado, while there i had several incidents where on hot days my motorcycle would overflow gas onto hot engine and pipes. this is a known problem with this bike and i feel that, due to the amount of fuel spilling onto hot engine and pipes, it's only a matter of time before a fire and/or explosion occurs. *tr

In temperatures over 85 degrees when stopping for gas my motorcycle spews gas out of the carb and onto the ground or hot exhaust pipes. this is a common problem according to the owners group website and yamaha says they have never had this problem and or that it has to do with ethanol in the gas. this situation has a serious potential to cause a fire. *tr

SUSPENSION

Failure of manufacturer yamaha motorcycle(star brand) to balance the tires/rims of their motorcycles prior to sale. this leads to handling issues and premature tire wear and replacement. i had a low speed wobble from the day of delivery 1 april '07 until i had the rear tire replaced and balanced 5 august '08. i then began to look at star mc'c and cannot find any on the show room floors that have any weights or signs that any attempt to balance the rims/tire of this brand have been made. many folks on the roadstar riders forum are having issues with early tire wear and front end wobble. no vehicle in my opinion should be delivered to anyone, especially a motorcycle, without a proper tire/rim balance. *tr

Tl*- the contact stated that the 2007 yamaha yzf- r1 had acceleration problems since he drove the motorcycle off the dealership parking lot. while driving in second gear at 5,500 rpms the throttle engaged and the motorcycle did not accelerate as it should. when it did accelerate it did it at a slow rate of speed before it actually gradually gained speed. the failure occurred only when merging on o the highway or into traffic. the contact h spoke with the yamaha dealership and they informed him that the motorcycles manufactured in the united states were having this problem, but the european motorcycles were not. the contact had three incidents with the motorcycle, almost being hit by a vehicle due to slow merging. the failure mileage was 1, and the current mileage was 1200.*ak
