2007 and 2008 yamaha r1 motorcycles have faulty ecu which causes bike to stall when coasting or stopping and lag when accelerating at certain rpm ranges. this creates a dangerous situation for both the rider and other motor vehicles in the vicinity. yamaha motor corporation has been made aware of this problem and initially exchanged faulty ecu's at no charge but quickly stopped doing this. i have been in contact with the manufacture and with the local dealerships, both when i was under warranty and after it had expired, and have not been able to resolve this issue.

Usually in second gear at 5500 rpm bike delays or stalls very bad for about three or four seconds. *tr

The 2007 yamaha yzf-r1 has significant lag or aflat-spot if you will at approximately 48 mph in second gear. any attempt to roll on the throttle at that point will result in the bike nearly stalling and or cutting out before slowly accelerating. this creates a dangerous situation for any owners of the motorcycle. if you ever had to accelerate out of a problem at that speed, you might as well just brace for impact. also, 45 mph is a very common speed limit in our local area, and it was not a pleasant feeling when you roll on the throttle and nothing happens. keep in mind, my 10 failures is just the beginning. it is 10 and counting. *ak

Run the bike in second gear with the rpms at 5500 which is around 48 mph. hold your bike steady at this rpm for a moment and then open the throttle pretty full. you will notice that the bike takes between 3-4 seconds before it will respond also the bike is stalling out in a low gear also starting issues please note i know what i am talking about (reason) i had a 2006 yzf r1 that was stolen so i know what to expect from the motorcycle

My 2007 yamaha r1 1. the bike cuts off almost every time i come to a stop. it does not matter whether the bike is in neutral or in gear with the clutch pulled in. it died approximately. 15-20 times on my ride. 2. if i blip/rev the bike in neutral or while in gear with the clutch pulled in, the bike shuts of as well. 3. i was merging on the freeway in second gear and when i went to speed up, the bike hesitated for about 3-4 seconds and then very slowly picked up. i was almost hit by the car behind me. i realized that if i'm at 5500 rpm's in second gear for a few seconds and then open the throttle, it causes this lag every single time. this is definitely not safe! i was almost rear ended by a car. 4. the bike also reached 250 degrees several times under cruising conditions. i can't even trust this bike to stay running either 'cause it seems it dies every time i come to a stop. 5. the bike also sometimes takes quite a few tries to start it. i have to hold down the starter for about 3-5 seconds sometimes. *tr

2007 yamaha yzf r1. while in second gear and at 5500 rpms the motorcycle does not perform as expected when throttle is applied. the motorcycle has a lag in acceleration that upsets or causes an unsafe shift in unpredictable weight while in a turn. this is of grave concern for my safety as this unpredictable characteristic has place me in close call accidents several times. *jb

I have a 2007 yamaha r1, and while riding in 2nd gear at 55mph i had a loss of power when i was attempting to merge on the highway. yamaha is aware of this problem and refuses to deal with it. *ak

After steadying the throttle in second gear, at 5500 rpm, 48 mph, and then applying throttle, the motorcycle, does not accelerate properly, and lags severely. the lag is so severe that a rider runs the risk of being hit from the rear, especially in a traffic situation, when merging for example. through generalized research, i have determined that the problem can be recreated on any us version 2007 yamaha r1 motorcycle. the problem cannot be recreated on a dynometer. changing the gearing, exhaust, pciii, and or ignition module does not correct this problem. *jb

The 2007 yamaha yzf-r1 has two issues that have come to my attention. first, there is a lag in the 2nd gear mapping that significantly decreases horsepower at 5500 rpm when the throttle is opened. second, there have been numerous instances of the rear sets (the hardware where your feet rest) cracking. both if these items are safety issues that could lead to fatal accidents. *jb

My new 2007 yamaha yzf r1 has a severe lag when riding at 5500 rpm's in 2nd gear. every time i get on the road to ride i experience this problem. i am very disappointed at yamaha's non responsive attitude with this issue. i want the problem fixed. i have contacted my dealer about the issue and for some reason i am just brushed off and they just respond with, we will get back to you . *jb
