I have recently purchased the 2007 yamaha yzfr1 and have some concerns regarding the safety of this vehicle. first off i would like to report the issue of a flat spot in acceleration. when the vehicle is at approximately 5500 rpm and throttle is applied there is a delay in acceleration lasting between 3-5 seconds. this delay could cause injury or possible death due to accidents occurring when acceleration in this range is necessary. the second issue is with the rear set (foot pegs). although this has not occurred on my vehicle, there have been cases of the set cracking and breaking. if this were to happen while the vehicle was in motion it can cause injury or possible death. *jb

2007 yamaha r1, riding down the local highway with some friends and the right rear set cracked and as it broke free from the bike, my foot hit the ground doing about 65 mph , causing me to shatter 1 toe with an open fracture, break another in half and fracture the tip of that toe. the rearset was cracked at the upper most leg right where it connects to the motorcycles frame. also as a result from this broken rearset, i have scratches on my swingarm and a piece of plastic is broken on the exhaust cover from where the rearset dropped and since everything is connected it just broke the plastic and left scratches in the swingarm. local yamaha dealership has agreed to replace the right rearset under warrenty and has contacted yamaha about the issue. the dealership also has the old rearset that is broken, and i also have multiple pictures of the broken rearset, scratches in my swingarm, broken plastic cover, x-rays, and other photos of the accident. no police report was filed however the police, ambulance, fire dept was on scene and the police officer has left his number and badge number incase a report needs to be filed.*ak

The 2007 yamaha yzf-r1 has two issues that have come to my attention. first, there is a lag in the 2nd gear mapping that significantly decreases horsepower at 5500 rpm when the throttle is opened. second, there have been numerous instances of the rear sets (the hardware where your feet rest) cracking. both if these items are safety issues that could lead to fatal accidents. *jb

2007 yamaha r1, throttle lagged at around 5500 rpms. no response for a few seconds. can cause serious problems when need to speed up or take off before being ran over a suv or in an intersection or overtaking another vehicle. foot peg bracket broken. was parking the bike when i put some pressure on the foot peg, it broke and myself and the bike went down. no injuries, just damages which i want to be reimbursed by yamaha.... but it could be fatal in case of riding in traffic. i really thought somehow i screwed up, and reason why i went down, until i found out that many more people were having the same problem. now i have no doubt that my bike and i went down because of a structural problem with the material used in the foot peg. i have pictures available.... plus ordered a new foot peg, and it is on back order.! maybe yamaha took them all off the market , and is replacing them with new ones? or maybe it meant many people were having to buy new ones. when is this going to be taken seriously and actions taken?*ak

 (1) throttle lag on 2007 yamaha r1, try to accelerate in 2nd gear at 5500 rpm's and the bike doesn't move, then all of the sudden a violent jerk and the bike is now violently acceleration. (2) i was in traffic trying to pass a vehicle and almost got run over due to the lag. there is no fixed report, but the european bikes don't have this so a new ecu would fix it. or a reflash of the ecu. (3) the rearset (aka footpeg brackets) are breaking off when weight is applied. standing up on the bike or just putting pressure on them will cause them to snap. (4) friend who has the same bike broke his foot when the reset broke. (5) had to buy aftermarket rear sets to avoid this problem. spent $ 500, on a product i should not have to buy..yamaha needs to reimburse me or send me new ones. *jb
