Defect SummaryOn certain motorcycles, the air filter mounting screws may come loose and fall out.
Consequence SummaryIf the screws fall out, they could get caught in the throttle valve which could prevent the operator from reducing engine speed properly. this could result in a loss of control and a vehicle crash with injury or death.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the air filter element with a new one that is designed to hold the screws securely free of charge. the recall began on november 29, 2006. owners may contact yamaha at 714-761-7842.

Tl*- the contact owns a 2006 yamaha r6 with an odometer reading of 1,000 miles. the contact stated that while going around a curve at 40 mph and shifting into third gear the throttle froze in and open position and the motorcycle started to raise up. the contact pushed the motorcycle to the side, crashed, and the motorcycle caught on fire. the contact later received the recall 06v442000 which was the noted the same failure as the contacts vehicle had right before the crash. the contact called the manufacturer, but since the motorcycle had been destroyed due to the fire they told the contact that the burden of proof was on him that the crash was a result of the recall . the consumer states that the police report stated her son popped a wheelie that was not a correct statement he gave. the consumer stated her son said when he shifted to third gear it came up on the back tire and kept coming back and he kicked it away from him. the consumer states that is why he would not sign the police report, however the police report states victim injured unable to sign. the consumer also has pictures of the motorcycle and the police report. update 4/23/07 *tr
SEATS

Yamaha 450 rhino side by side utv, accident involving low speed on road with tip over. the drivers seat is not stable and came out of brackets. it is designed to be slid out for storage under seat. i believe that i would not have been injured had the seat not come out in a low speed tip over. yahmaha should have designed seat to be stable and secured to the frame and body of vehicle. *tr
