The 2001 chevrolet monte carlo i purchased in february, 2001 has had serious and numerous defects since i purchased the car two years ago. the transmission, engine, caliphers, and breaks have each been repaired by the dealer at least twice. on feb.15, 2003, the key got stuck in the ignition of the car, and because the car was then out of warranty, i was forced to pay $406.00 for a repair of the vehicle. on february 20th, 2003, the car started leaking oil and the transmission jumps from the parking gear into drive whenever it is turned on. i am asking that the gm manufacturer. the compalints on this vehicle are ongoing. the date indicated below is only the date of the latest incident with this car. to repurchase the vehicle for the monthly payments and interest i have already paid

Have had to have my rotors turned and then replaced in under 40,000 miles. now at 56,000- i am experiencing the same symptoms. dealer paid for turning the first time. when the rotors needed to be replaced- warranty had expired. i went directly to chevy who refused (they were also extremely rude and unprofessional, did not respond to messages and refused to let me speak to a manager!) to replace.

I have had consistent problems with the abs on this vehicle. i have had it diagnosed at chevrolet dealers and independent dealers in va. i have replaced all wheel hub/bearing assemblies. that is not the problem. the problem is with the abs wheel sensor wiring harnesses. it is obvious if you go online and research this issue there is no way that chevrolet is not aware and the many models of vehicles that are affected. i contacted chevrolet and they have no desire to attempt to help with repairing this safety issue that is well known by dealers, mechanics and consumers. there are currently no tsb's or recalls for this issue. thanks

Stop & go driving. abs warning light comes on, traction control turns off, service traction control warning light comes on, brake pedal vibrates. all lights stay on while driving but reset after ignition turn off/ turn on procedure as described in owners manual. next day, same lights & warnings. take vehicle to dealer on 4/05/06. computer checked system codes p1189, p0135, c1216 in system. items tested per trouble tree. all items test good. no charge. next day, 4/6/06, same warnings! take to dealer again without resetting warnings. no computer system codes showing, but no input signal from right front hub. dealer replaces right front hub assembly - cost $479. vehicle seems fine, until about 4/20 when brake pedal vibration comes back and warning lights come on and off. i turned off the traction control system and everything was fine for several days. on 4/25, with the traction system off, the pedal vibration was back and the abs & traction control warning lights came on again. went back to dealer. although they told me the computer check show codes of c1222 and c1226, the codes do not show on my invoice. code c1226 appears on nhtsa technical service bulletin item number 10017271 for my year and make of vehicle. however the service bulletin number 3500 is not know to the dealer as a valid tsb number, and they could not locate any information about it. dealer diagnosed and replaced ebtcm, and programmed system - cost $697. i feel that by replacing the brain (ebtcm) and programming it, the dealer and/or the manufacturer may be covering up a potential safety issue with either one or both systems, abs and traction control. i also feel that the dealer put me and my family in a dangerous position by failing to diagnosis any problems on the first visit, and then doing it again by making me feel safe by paying for a replacement part that has nothing to do with either system! *nm

The brake rotors on my 2001 monte carlo have had to be resurfaced twice and now need to be resurfaced a third time for becoming warped. the first time i had the brakes resurfaced was at 19,874 miles. the second time was at 40,644. i have 55,562 miles on my vehicle now and they need to be resurfaced again, but the vibrations haven't gotten that bad yet. associated with the vibrations from my rotors becoming warped, i experience a knocking feeling in the steering wheel. i took my car into my local chevy dealer at about 39,700 miles and described my problem to them. they told me that the brake rotors were warped and needed resurfacing and that the steering shaft had gone bad and needed replacing. i had them replace the steering shaft ($480 job) but not the brakes. i took my car to a local repair shop to resurface the rotors (less expensive than dealer cost). i am having the same symptoms of the steering shaft going bad again. i don't understand why chevrolet won't do something for its monte carlo customers. *jb

My 2001 chevrolet monte carlo has a safety-related defect with the front brake rotors. the rotors are made of a composite material and warp very easily. at 1500 miles, i noticed a steering wheel vibration when applying the brakes at 45-60 mph. i had the rotors removed and resurfaced at my local garage since the chevy dealer told me that brake repairs would not be covered under the warranty. i now have 25000 miles on the vehicle, and the braking vibration is recurring. my mechanic tells me that the rotors must be replaced. this is clearly a safety-related, design defect that chevrolet is refusing to fix. nhtsa should investigate this and force chevrolet to fix the problem. *ak

I took my monte carlo in at 25,000 miles for bad steering wheel vibrations when braking and brakes not holding in damp weather (either rain or car wash). the service consultant told me that whoever rotated my tires used the wrong torque when putting the wheels back on. he said that messed up my rotors. i told him that i had never rotated my tires. he said that my warranty wouldn't be honored because i had not rotated my tires. i took it to another chev dealer and he said that brakes were not covered under warranty and it was not unusual to have to have my rotors turned and new pads at that mileage. i have had all new cars and never had to have a complete brake job at that mileage.
