Head lights on my monte carlo 2002 there has always been something not right. when i bought the car one night when i was driving out the highway and all of a sudden the lights just go off scaring me to death. in a few seconds they came back on. i have had this do this to me several times i bought the car in 2003. now on august 28th 2010 i had went to a friends house and later that night when i went to leave the lights didn't work at all unless i held the light swith on the colum for bright or dim. so now that is the only way i have head lights now if i hold the switch on the sterring colum so i don't go to far at night. don't have the money to fix them. there needs to be a recall on this i also know someone else that has a monte carlo and has the same problem but hers just goes off on her like mine use to.

Headlights go completely out when switching to or from high and low beam. returning switch to previous beam will generally make them start working again.

Turn signals will not always work. replaced the hazard/signal switch located behind the dash only to have the same problem. pressing on the dash near the hazard switch or pressing the hazard switch will return signal to normal operation for a short time. while i was replacing the original, i noticed placing a very slight pressure on the switch assembly will cause the signal to either stop or start working. i believe the problem is with both the switch design as well as the dashboard design. hot/humid weather appears to irritate the situation causing failure more often. researching the problem via web searches finds many owners with the same problem. this problem also seems to be common to many gm model cars.

My turn signal lights dont work sometimes, i have to depress the hazard light button for a couple seconds and the they work for a while but the problem keeps coming back, i have read about many complaint about the hazard light switch being the problem but i think the manufacturer of the vehicle should be responsible for the repair. i own a 2002 chevrolet monte carlo.

Headlamps continue to fill with moisture and now water leaking in after every rainfall. headlamps in danger of failing and lights obscured by vapor. have removed, dried out, no cracks or seals broken but problem persists. other complaints from gm owners with same problem have experienced complete electrical failure for same problem.

On my way to work on my normal route before dawn, driving down a narrow curvy rural road rife with deer, i flicked on my high beams as usual. about 5 seconds later i lost all my headlights. somehow safely pulled off road without falling into the ditch and turned off vehicle. after several minutes of turning lights on and off the fog lamps came on and i was able to make it back home very slowly. spent $1000 getting a control module replaced. had trouble with turn signals quitting randomly for 3 years, have to turn on emergency flashers in order to get them to work. another $500 will fix the problem but since the car is only worth $1500 it doesn't seem worth it. this car is a piece of junk - 2 transmissions, numerous electrical problems, 5 steering shaft replacements... *tr

Turn signal switch that includes head lights. you flick you high beams on and when you try and switch to low your head lights go out. you much flick your turn signal repeatedly to get them back on. in the mean time you are swerving all over the road in a panic. how often does it happen almost every day. *tr

Headlight high/low switch on multi-function stalk fails and prevents switching from high to low beam, especially hard to switch from high to low. dealer said entire stalk needs to be replaced and part along is over $300 not including labor. there have been times when headlights go out complete when switching between high and low beams. many reports of this problem on internet with several gm models from about 2000-2003 model years. *tr

When my wife or i attempt to turn on the high beams in a poorly lit area/region the lights shut off completely. we almost entirely lost where we were on the road and had to slow down and make an abrupt stop. after playing with the switch for a couple moments we finally got the high beams on. now, a car comes from the other side we attempt to power off the high beams and switch back to low beams and the car stays stuck with high beams on and we are now blinding on coming traffic. fortunately there was no accident involved, however, either event could have easily led to an accident especially if it were to happen in adverse weather. please advise as this should be a recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet monte carlo. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions; proceeding to make a left turn the turn signal selector control mode was engaged; followed by no power response. the driver observed that both turn signals were inoperative. in addition, whenever the high beam headlights were activated the exterior headlights and tail lights failed without warning. the authorized dealer was notified of the failures. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 103,000.

Turn signal failure: beginning in 2005 through to 2007 the turn signals would work intermittently. while under warranty the vehicle was taken to the dealership. they indicated that there was no problem. once warranty was expired there was nothing i could do. i did find that turning the hazard signals on for 5-10 seconds would sometimes correct the problem and the turn signal would work. finally after many hours searching the internet i found several postings indicating that there was a faulty hazard light switch, the turn signals are also controlled by the hazard light switch. in october 2007 i spent $399 to have the hazard light switch repaired. please insist that the dealership replace the hazard light switch and not add on additional parts like the turn signal arm etc. my dealership first quoted me $850 stating that the turn signal arm must also be replaced to correct the issue. since the repair all is fine. i do believe that gm/chevrolet should be responsible for the cost of repair since it is a defect in their design.*tr

Purchased a chevrolet monte carlo new in 2002. on 9/29/06, i had to take the vehicle in for repairs due to non-functioning turn signals and hazard light. the required repair involved replacement of a hazard light switch which is the conduit for the turn signals as well. hazard light switch had been used very slightly over last four years, however recently used for a constant 25 minutes prior to switch failure. i consider this to be faulty considering the little use. also, noticed on nhtsa web site that around the 2000 - 2003 time period other gm models were recalled for faulty hazard light switch and suspect that it's a manufacturing problem. *jb
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HEADLIGHTS

Sealed beam headlight assemblies gradual internal moisture build-up till condensation on the lenses get trapped on inside surface causing diffusing and diminishing front headlight transmission. internal moisture that builds up over time and exposure to rain cannot be removed. adds to risk of corrosion, electrical short, explosive pressure build-up when heated through use and total failure of headlight assemblies. only remedy is model wide recall for safety inspection and replacement including inspection advisory to owner warning of potential problem and safety hazard. manufacturer is reluctant to issue a recall due to the high cost of replacement headlight assemblies of over $250 each. *tr

I am now having signal failure on my 2002 monte carlo ss. my signals only work when they want to and it is more often than not that they do not want to work. this is a huge concern for me because this problem has almost caused a few too many accidents and i believe chevy needs to do something about it before it causes any major accidents or kills someone! *jb

When i turn on the blinkers sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. when they don't no light comes on at all ( no blinker on the dashboard or on the outside lights). on numerous occasions my life flashed before my eyes when i was nearly struck by other vehicles while trying to make a turn and my turn signals weren't operating properly. i went to an auto parts store and they stated that the problem was a common one. they stated that it was the flasher assembly (in the steering column) costs $ 299.00. i feel this issue should be looked into . i am a police officer and if i didn't have this issue with my own vehicle i wouldn't have believed anyone else's story. please contact me by phone or e-mail thank you rich. *nm
