Manual transmission locked in gear. emerg. brk. cable will not adjust. abs module has noise. stopped by removing fuse, abs feature not functioning. trans failed in feb. 2003 @ 65k miles. repair made by valencia chevrolet in valencia calif. cost was handled by a extended service warranty. cost to me after a lot of heated negotiation was 85.00. the agency wanted me to authorize a new trans. and clutch. cost: 3600.00 the emergency brake cable failed @21k miles in 2001, the abs module failed @42k miles. in 2002. neither brake item has been repaired. valencia chevrolet wants 2300.00 to repair the abs problem, no quote to repair brake cable.

I own a 1999 chevrolet silverado 4x4 ext. cab with a 5.3 engine and have had, what seems to me, to be a strong vibration coming from the torque converter at 40-50 mph. dealer tells me they can't find any vibration even though the mechanics can feel it when driving it. also the rear leaf springs clunk going over even the smallest of bumps. both have happened ever since i purchased the vehicle. *ak

Good morning, i own a 1999 silverado, long bed, with an automatic transmission and i am having a few problems, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated... first the abs motor continues to run after the engine has been shut off, i had to disconnect the abs fuse so the battery will not get drained. second the automatic transmission is shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, i am forced to shut the engine off for a couple of minutes and when i restart the engine the problem disappear, i have read your safety bulletins and gm is aware of these problems. my truck looks and acts practically like new except for the intermittent transmission problems and the abs. i had babied my truck since i bought it, and i have owned gm products all my life and i don't think is fair for me to spend thousands of dollars for gm's manufacturing problems... please advice... thanks...!!!*jb

At 33,000 miles, oct 2002 -approximately 55mph, acted like it was not in gear then the transmission fluid hot light came on. immediately pulled off to side of road - checked transmission fluid, it checked ok and the light went off. pulled back onto highway - it was fine. immediately took to local dealership; they hooked it up to the computer and didn't find anything wrong. in jan 2003, upon acceleration, around 25-30mph, it acted as though it wouldn't go into 3rd & 4th gear. same as oct 2002, but nothing registered on the truck's message center this time. and this time, the problem didn't go away. i took to another local dealer - mechanic drove vehicle and noted the problems. still, nothing registered on the truck's message center. mechanic even hooked up the truck to his computer and drove it while it was still failing. to his suprise, nothing registered on his computer either. they overhauled the transmission - replaced 3rd & 4th gear. they adjusted the bill - as if i purchased extended warrenty. contacted gm - they report there have not been any problems like this with these trucks. sometimes this happens when people make things -it's unfortunate that it happened to you. after that call - i found this site and found a technical bulletin referring to this same problem. very disappointed with only having 36,000 miles since march 1999.

When placed in 4wd mode the truck makes a groaning/moaning noise at approx 9 mph on. if the steering wheel is turned the truck jerks and shudders. this happens on dry pavement and sheet ice, we drive on both a lot up here in alaska. i have a lot of prior experience with 4x4 vehicles and this is abnormal to the point of being dangerous. i have taken it in to the dealer and they have contacted gmc. the service mgr told me that he had talked with a bob at tan and got no assistance, but was told that this was normal for all 4x4 trucks. the dealer agrees with me that this is not normal and they told me that mine is the third truck in the last few weeks to have this problem, all with no help from gmc. the dealers solution is to not use 4wd unless absolutely vital. but 4wd is absolutely vital driving on the roads here in alaska most all winter, and part of spring. the erratic control feel is very bothersome and i believe a serious safety issue! *ak

Since date of purchase, transmission has been vibrating and causing engine to feel like it is under stress/heavy load. contacted dealer and another chev. serv. both advise chev. knows of problem but does not know what it is or how to correct it. contacted chev. cust.serv. total waste of time. they do not care. simply state if chev. tac says they are working on problem what do i care. they will fix it eventually. problem is if they dont know what the problem is how can chev. claim it is not a safety issue. second problem- abs brakes are activating on dry hard surface at speeds under 40 mph. dealer syays problem does not exist. stated they called chev. tac know nothing about break problems so there must not be one. tried to say that i dont know how abs works. have had abs for 15 years know it pretty well. it is definitely activating when is should not. it seems that chev. is not concerned becasue truck was bought and paid for.

On 2/28/02, i reported to gm that my 1999 chevrolet silverado was jerking & binding when the vehicle rounded corners or in a 180-degree turn. a service manager took this vehicle for a test drive by himself in the parking lot and did a couple of turns and a 180-degree turn. he also found that it did have a jerky or jumping movement as it went into the turn. this front wheel binding may be some type of design irregularity or flaw, which occurs while in the 4-wheel drive mode. since the service manager considers it a normal condition, and nothing can be done at his level to correct this issue, i believe that this irregularity should be further investigated. why, because these erratic movements could jerk, bind, or stop the vehicle at any speed if the steering wheel is being turned and the vehicle in motion. nowhere in my operator's manual, or on the dash is there any sticker which identifies that this vehicle while in a 4-wheel drive mode will jerk or bind while turning corners.*ak

I have had my truck which i purchased used in march 2000, with 13,000 miles on it into the dealer numerous times to identify and correct a problem with the rear end making a clunking sound upon shifting and starting from a coasting position. the first time i was told they could not find a problem, the second time i had the service manager ride with me and he heard the problem, they performed maintenance as delineated in a service bulletin covering changing the oil in the rear end. this did not correct the problem, the problem has gotten significantly worse in the last 6,000 miles. i had another gm mechanic look at the problem and he indicated that the rear end was not properly set up at the point of manufacture and to go back to the dealer and tell them. the third time i had the truck in for this problem, once again i had the manager ride we me and hear the noise again and again. they looked it over, and not wanting to tear into the rear end discounted the problem and inherrent to this vehicle and described the problem as differential torque slap. i am quite concerned about this noise, and the issue of warranty coverage. i dont like having to go back time and time again to resolve a problem and told there is none. i bought the truck to drive not sit in the service bay. *ak
