Defect SummaryVehicle description: non-abs equipped passenger vehicles. the brake master cylinder piston retainer snap ring may have been bent inward during the assembly process. the master cylinder piston may be in a brake applied position due to the damaged piston retainer snap ring. when the piston is in the applied position, the fluid compensation ports are closed which results in a brake drag condition.
Consequence SummaryIf the brake overheat, brake fading could lead to an increase in needed stopping distance. should a driver not anticipate the extra stopping distance, this condition could cause a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the brake master cylinder.

 Dt*: the contact stated that after the purchase of the vehicle there were problems with the brakes which were caused by improper installation of the brake line. the engine also made several clunky noises. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the brakeline was installed improperly and oil sludge build up contaminated the engine causing the problems. on a second visit to the dealer the engine began to smoke indicating a blowout. the dealer determined the blow out was due to poor maintenance. the components affected were the timing chain, the control panel and the engine.

 Vehicle suddenly accelerated after applying brakes, after shifting from reverse to drive vehicle took off and ran into several trees/ a concrete wall, and two other trees before stopping. dealer and manufacturer were notified. *ak consumer stated vehicle was totalled, also airbags did not deploy.*slc

 While the vehicle was parked consumer noticed liquid underneath the vehicle on the driver 's side front wheel. consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer. then, abs brake light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. mechanic determined that the abs brake module unit needed to be replaced due to a worn out part. *ak
