Defect SummaryThe secondary hood latch rod can bind on the guide bracket and prevent engagement of the secondary latch.
Consequence SummaryThis condition can cause the hood to fly up obstructing the driver's vision increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.

Defect SummaryOn certain pickup trucks originally sold in or currently registered in the following salt belt states: maine, new hampshire, vermont, massachusetts, rhode island, connecticut, new york, new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware, maryland, the district of columbia, west virginia, ohio, indiana, michigan, illinois, wisconsin, minnesota, iowa, and missouri. corrosion of the return spring on the hood secondary latch could cause the mechanism to bind in the release position.
Consequence SummaryIf the primary latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the secondary hood latch. owner notification began september 17, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 Throttle control cable was repaired under campaign id 01v037000. less than 500 miles later, throttle cable failed while driving. vehicle checked by another dealer, who advised consumer that recall repairs did not properly repair the first time. dealer advised consumer that first dealer did not add all necessary components.*ak consumer states hood latch and ignition switch repaired under recall campaign (01v-040 and 00v-135) but failed again. *yh

 95v056ooo/hood assembly:latches; 97v084000/transmission cooling line; 97v199 000/fuel tank rollover valve, and 00v135000/ignition swtich wiring. consumer received recall notices since mar 1995, and still was unable to get dealer to honor the recalls because of no parts being available. dealer would call and tell consumer to bring vehicle in for a part that was available. however, when consumer arrived the part was already given to someone else. asking help from nhtsa in this matter. feel free to provide any further details. *ak
 While driving at 25-30 mph, secondary hood latch broke, causing the hood to fly up, blocking the consumer's view. dealer has been contacted. *ak

 Received recall notice 95v056000, secondary hood latch; because vehicle was involved in an accident & owner refused repairs, insurance company totaled it. body shop brought, repaired & sold vehicle. owner took vehicle to dealer for recall & mechanic called zone representative who refused to have dealer do recall repairs due to vehicle not having any warranties & was salvaged. *ak
