Our 2000 model crown victoria (police interceptor p71) was in excellent overall condition and well maintained. the car was driven about five miles from our home to a restaurant for an evening event. after about 15 minutes, someone notified the patrons that our car was on fire. at that time, the engine compartment was fully involved in flames. the local fire department quickly put out the fire, but the engine compartment was completely destroyed. in the months before, or at any time since we've owned the car, there had been no odors of gasoline or acrid electrical burning smells noticed by anyone. the car was parked, engine off with key removed and the doors locked when the fire started. *tr

Have 2000 ford crown victoria with 140000 miles (police pkg) noticed high pitch sound coming from rearend assembly. told by mechanic it is the rearend differential bearings. just located recall on 2003 crown vics (fleet including p71 vin models for 10/01-12/02 models. i feel maybe 1998-2003 models may be affected and ford should extend the recall to models from a few years before these magic cutoff dates as listed in the 2003? recall.
