Tl*the contact owns a 1990 ford f150. after filling both of the gas tanks in the vehicle, the contact noticed the fuel level decreasing. the failure was noticed while driving 30 mph. after driving for ten miles, he pulled the vehicle over and noticed fuel leaking from the rear gas tank. the contact switched the fuel usage to the front fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, but the technician could not determine the cause of the failure. the technician advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. he discovered nhtsa campaign id numbers 01i008000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 93v125000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the dealer stated that the ba and aa connectors, gasket, two retainers, two fuel filters, valves, and the o ring on the tank had all failed. the vehicle was repaired at the cost of $765.47. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 118,000 and current mileage was 123,487. updated 5/27/09 *cn the consumer stated gas started transferring from one tank to another. updated 06/02/09.*jb

1990 ford f-150 truck has duel fuel tanks; fuel is pumping from the back tank to the front tank and over spilling through the fuel cap onto the ground. letter from manufacturer dated 7-19-2001 states that this is not a safety recall and therefore they will not correct problem. question: how can recalls from 8-15-1989 and 8-2-1993 which caused overflow and spillage be approved as a safety recall; yet the 7-19-2001 issue which results in the same overflow and spillage not be approved as a safety recall? problem with the overflow started in october 2007 -- fuel spilled due to cross tank fuel flow. at this point, only one tank can contain fuel and the other tank must remain empty for the spillage to cease. *tr

A very dangerous condition with my ford f-150 involving the fuel line/gas tank surfaced on 4/27/01 in my attached garage. after the vehicle was stopped in the garage, significant quantities of gasoline were found to be exiting one of the two fuel tank caps on to the floor. tomball ford replaced the components causing this safety hazard in jan 1996 under ford recall 93s68. it is obvious the recall did not work.!! these facts have been verified by cillis car care, 13650 schroeder rd, houston, tx 77070. according to tomball ford, they say they are not obligated to once again repair the components of the fuel system on this vehicle. i demand that the d.o.t. act on this situation immediately. my truck should be repaired correctly at no cost to me. further, for the safety of the public, ford should be required to conduct another recall and perform recall 93s68 properly!!!!!*ak

Have been to ford dealer for two recalls, ignition and fuel regulator. no charge to me. gas is still coming out of the filler neck of the tank i am not using, i switch to that tank and gas comes out of the other tank--that i am not using. the dealer says this is not a recall and i need to pay for new fuel pumps in each tank. i don't understand that since the truck is getting gas fine, just to much and being returned to the wrong tank. not being returned to the tank that is being used. i feel that this should be a recall and should not cost me $1000.00. hope someone can help me.

The reason for my complaint is that my truck has a damaged check valve. i have spent my own money to try and fix the problem, yet it still does not work properly. what is happening is i have a daul tank system. when i switch my tank to the rear it pumps gas to the motor but also pumps gas into the front tank causing it to overflow, thus creating a potential fire hazered for my wife and kids. i called ford and they said there is no recal on such a deffect. yet my mechanice pulled up a document off his computer under the (2000 mitchell repair information co. l.l.c.) under safty recall #93s68 which addresses this very problem. i beleve it is severe enough to bring it to your atten, and am asking you to get ford to fix this defect before my truck goes ablaze.*ak

I own a 1990 ford f-150 with recall # 93s68. this is a cross dual tank fuel condition where the front tank overloads with unused fuel . front tank is in-operable and only rear tank being used. front tank continues to spill fuel when parked and after 6 yrs of repeated attempts in contact with ford i still can get no relief. i have had 2 93s68 recalls and still the tank leaks dangerous gasoline everywhere it is parked. what amazes me is how ford has buried this recall considering what a hazard leaking fuel presents. having owned the truck for 10 yrs and since it is in otherwise perfect condition , i am hoping an agency such as yours would help me to force ford to honor this recall until i am satisfied. please contact me at any time at the 2 ph3's provided . this is the second time i have tried to enlist the assist of nhtsa . *ak

I have a 1990 ford f150 truck. on 3 different occasions fuel from the back tank has flowed over into the front tank. on all three occasions, i have gone to my truck to find gasoline all over the ground. i still had to put a bucket under the tanks fillers to allow the excess gas in the front tank to flow down.on two occasions i had the truck parked in the garage. the gas that flowed out covered almost my entire garage floor. on the third occasion, enough gas had flowed from the tank to reach my lawn. if someone had come to my home smoking, or some other ignition source was to have come in contact with it, my house would have burned to the ground. i now have to park the truck outside for fear of it causing my house to burn.

I am an otr truck driver and i am very aware of problems with all vehicles that i drive. i came back to my work terminal and noticed a very strong smell of gasoline coming from my truck. i looked under it and saw that the rear fuel tank was leaking quite obviously from the seam. i contacted my local dealership and asked if there was a recall on the fuel tank, he said no. i then was told to contact ford and i asked if they had a recall on this vehicle and they said that the vehicle had been through a recall fix back in 1993. i hardly think that a fuel tank that was repaired would start leaking 6 years later, especially from the seam on the tank. i was told that my bumper to bumper warranty was up and that ford would not take care of my problem. dear sirs, i have two children and a wife who depend on me to provide the best care and protection. how can i protect my family from companies that don't care about anyone and only care about their pocketbook. *ak

Ford has a recall on this but apparently where this truck was built, it is not included in this recall, campaign # 93v125000. how can they recall over a million trucks, knowing that there is a problem with this part and not include a truck that is having the same problem.

Intermittently, when on long trips, fuel in the rear tank becomes much higher than in the front tank. this causes pressure to build up and fuel sprays out of the rear tank filler port. a quarter to a half of a tank of fuel can be lost. this is a serious fire hazard. ford claims to have no idea what could be causing the problem.

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY

My 1990 f-150 has two gas tanks. for the past week the gas has been going back and forth between the two tanks. i know this because i can fill the front tank and put 1/4 tank of gas in the rear tank. then an hour later the rear tank is holding the gas from the front tank. the big problem happened today when i filled the rear tank and then put $5 worth in the front tank. i had a 70 mile drive home. within the first 20 miles the rear tank which i had filled, was reading 1/4 full! so i switched to the front tank which was empty except for the $5 worth of gas i had put in. however, the front tank was now reading full! obviously the gas had gone somehow from the rear tank and up to the front tank. by the time i got about half way home, the cab of the truck was full of fumes. i stopped and got out because i developed a terrible headache. there was gas pouring from the underside of the truck. upon closer inspection, i realized the gas was spilling out from the rear tank at the area where the gas goes in at. when i checked the gauges the rear tank was now full (remember 30 minutes earlier it was only 1/4 full and the front tank was reading full),. the tank was obviously over full because it was spilling out from the area where the hose goes in to fill the tank.*ak
