Defect SummaryUnder certain conditions, the snap ring that locates the park gear on the output shaft of the transmission may fracture.
Consequence SummaryWhen the gear is placed in park, the park gear would notengage, allowing the truck to roll freely if the parking brake is not properlyset. this could result in an accident.

 The described truck was purchased by myself new. the aautomatic transmission had to be completely rebuilt at approx. 34,000 miles(under warranty) . at approx. 85000 miles that transmission burned out and a ford factory rebuilt was installed at east bay truck- oakland ca. the cost was approx. $2400.00 as described, at approx. 150,000 miles this transmission had to be rebuilt!!!! the cost this time was approximately *ak

 Defective headlight dimmer switch drained battery (initially a high resistance short) while vehicle was parked. turned into a low resistance short when troubleshooting problem and generated smoke in instrument panel before blowing fuse. second problem involving the gear select sensor on the transmission caused the vehicle to go into neutral unpredictably.
