Defect Summary | On certain pickup and utility trucks, some of these vehicles have an air bag sensing diagnostic module (sdm) which contains an anomaly that could result in the driver and passenger's air bag failing to deploy during certain frontal crashes. | |||||||||||||||
Consequence Summary | In a vehicle crash, front seat occupants may receive more severe injuries. | |||||||||||||||
Corrective Summary | Dealers will recalibrate the sdm on the affected vehicles. owner notification began august 28, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or gmc at 1-800-462-8782. | |||||||||||||||

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra sle. the contacts vehicle was involved in a crash while driving 65 mph ,and the airbags did not deploy , causing the steering wheel to mash in her face. the contact suffered two head injuries, and was immediately transported to a hospital by an ambulance. the contact had not contacted the manufacturer about the incident. the incident took place on march 4, 2007. the mileage was unknown. *ak the consumer stated lisa loveridge was the driver at the time of the accident when the vehicle was totaled. the vehicle hit culvert head on and impact was at the lower portion of the vehicle. nevada traffic report and pictures of the vehicle were provided. updated 09/04/07 *tr | |||

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. while driving approximately 50 mph in dry conditions, the vehicle was involved in a crash. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact injured his right shoulder. the police arrived at the scene and filed a report. the vehicle was towed to the auto body shop for repairs. the contact called the manufacturer and they sent out an investigator to inspect the vehicle. the investigator could not determine why the air bags failed to deploy. the contact stated that the failure was identical to nhtsa campaign id number 02v178000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). the current and failure mileages were 81,000. updated 04/16/08. *lj | |||
