Defect SummaryOn certain trailers equipped with dexter axles, the disc brake caliper mounting bolts may strip. insufficient clamp load between caliper and yoke can cause the caliper to disassemble and adversely affect the trailers braking system.
Consequence SummaryLoss of braking can increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDexter has modified the remedy for these vehicles (please see 06e029). a new larger caliper mounting nut will be installed. for more information you may contact dexter axle at 1-800-400-2164 or haulmark at 1-574-825-5867.

Tl* - the contact stated that his peterbilt truck was pulling a towmaster trailer. the contact was traveling on a dry road behind a vehicle and barely missed hitting the other vehicle when the vehicle stopped. the anti-lock brakes engaged which caused the brakes not to work. the contact stated that he took the trailer to the dealer and the problem was diagnosed as the meritor-wabc failure. the part was under warranty and was replaced. the vehicle is a 2006 towmaster trailer model # t50, the vehicle had 3000 miles at the time of the failure. *jb

This is a complaint about the lack of response to a recall. i noticed online, that the haulmark snowmobile trailers that were built and sold during 2006, had a problem with the dexter axles supplied with them. i purchased a 2006, 19 foot, haulmark snowmobile trailer on 3-31-2006. i have never received a notice from dexter axle about this, and have tried at least 2 different times calling the dexter axle recall line 1-800-400-2164. there is no one to talk to, only a recording to leave name & number, so i did so. after 3 weeks time, there has still been no return call, or answer to my inquiry about this! i'm very worried that there will be some sort of problem with this trailer on the highway. haulmark was also contacted, but was reluctant to help in any way! what can i do about this total disregard for safety!! *tr
