Defect SummarySalt corrosion products between the starter solenoid wire and the adjacent battery feed in the bulkhead connector may short these connections, causing the circuit to bypass the ignition key control of the starter motor solenoid. the car can start without the starter sequence being initiated by the ignition key in the ignition lock.
Consequence SummaryThe unintended start of a vehicle with a manualtransmission left in a drive gear can result in a runaway vehicle.
Corrective SummaryThe starter solenoid wiring will be separated from the battery feed wire by relocating it within the bulkhead connector on affected vehicles.

 Electrical: noticed gauge was reading zero then it came up. noticed smoke and flames coming from the hood, vehicle still running. put the fire out, removed terminal from battery to stop vehicle from running.checked cables/alternator, and there was nothing wrong. *ak

 Dealer did repairs for recall 94v106000, dealer damaged wiring while making repairs. tt consumer states dealer lowered the tank without disconnecting the fuel pump, the weight of the gas damaged the harness wires and fuel pump wires, vehicle broke down fivedays later, was towed to nearest dealerm they did a tempoary fix and said take it back to dealer to correct repair, consumer discovered they never repaired the first damaged they caused.*jb
