PARKING BRAKE - CONVENTIONAL

Vin: 1j4fy19p1sp298474 1995. i was notified of a recall on the brake assembly for my 1995 jeep wrangler. on october 8, 2003 i took it to the faricy boys chrysler jeep in colorado springs for repair. on november 21, 2003 my car while warming up in the driveway rolled out of the place across the street and into the neighbors fence. the brake pedal released and was to the floor when my daughter pulled it back into the driveway. we called faricy and let them know the brake pedal failed and that we would be bringing it in. upon our arrival i told the service rep chris rose what had happened. he turned me over to the service manager dan durfee. he explained that after inspection the brake cables had failed and that this was part of the recall. i asked why this was not replaced when they performed the recall. he stated the cables probably appeared in working order when they replaced the brake pedal. again he said it was covered under the recall but he would have to contact the daimlerchrysler rep since there was damage to the vehicle and my neighbors fence. i was lead to believe this was going to be resolved and repaired by faricy. when we returned from vacation mr. durfee had yet to get an answer from daimlerchrysler so he made some calls which resulted in an investigator hired by daimlerchrysler a mr. bernie lattin from ea associates came to my house and inspected my car. he stated that clearly the break was not in working order and that i should have nothing to worry about. dec 23rd chyrsler told me i should go back to the dealer who performed the recall. the dealer told me that was not what they were told by daimlerchrysler and i am left in the middle. on 1/10/04 i paid $428.55 to have the bake assembly repaired since faricy refused to perform or warranty their original work. i also have $2000 damage to my car and $40 in fence repair. *ak *sc *jb

For the last year, my parking brake has not worked at all. if engaged, it will release itself. i took the jeep to a mechanic and was told it was a ratchet assembly that was broken. i thought it was just a problem with my jeep. it was not until i started hearing of many other jeep owners having the same problem that i became convinced this is a manufacturer defect. i believe a full investigation should begin as i have heard of several people involved in accidents related to this defect. i believe there are many people that are not aware this type of investigation can be started by submitting reports such as this. i was unaware until recently. thank you for your concern. *ak
