FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

When filling the gas tank a significant amount of gas spills out simultaneous with the first shut-off of the gasoline pump. multiple different pumps at multiple different gas stations of multiple different brands do it consistently -- i can no longer rember the last time this did not happen. manually slowing the delivery rate down to 1% of the normal delivery rate as the tank approaches full can reduce, but only sometimes eliminate the condition. i believe this is an environmental hazard due to the spilled gas. i believe this is a fire risk, as well as a risk to personal property from the splashing gas. i'm told that this is due to a bad valve in the fuel tank that was designed to stop this condition, but that valve sticks. my vehicle has never had any gas over 10% ethanol (unless some gas stations.. well, you know), and certainly not often (unless, of course, gas stations lie a lot).

Every time i fill up my gas tank , the vehicle doesn't detect when it's full and spits gas up all over the car and myself. this is very dangerous as fuel also ends up all over the ground. please help!

When fueling up, many times the fuel pump will shut off and the fuel will spill out of the filler neck. i've tried slowing down the flow of fuel just prior to a full tank with no change. it happes a lot, but not every time. i've tried angling my vehicle with the filler neck down hill and up but it randomly spills fuel. i've tried waiting once coming to a stop prior to turning off the engine with no ryhme or reason to when it will spill fuel.

When filling my gas tank at any gas station, the gas spills (or actually shoots out) out. this is a serious safety and environmental issue. i just took it to the shop after getting gas all over me. i spent $100 on diagnostics. i have heard that this is a known problem and jeep/chrysler is too cheap to cover it by recall. i've heard of a group that is talking to tort attorneys so i will look into that next.

Every time i fill up the fuel tank at the gas station (any gas station) the gas overflows and spills out on the ground.
10/01/201140000
This started in october 2011 with my 2006 jeep wrangler. when i put gas in the tank, as soon as its full and the pump shuts off, gas bursts out of the tank all over the jeep, the ground, everywhere. this is certainly a safety issue, along with an environmental issue! i'm hearing about so many jeeps that are doing this. why is there no recall? i'm having it looked at by my local jeep dealer, but so far they said chrysler is aware of this but has no fix on this situation.

Every fuel fill up the gas burps back up the fill hose and all over the side of the jeep and onto the ground. it will do this even when filling as slow as possible. this is not only annoying but of course wastes gas and creates a fire hazard and environmental contamination. several other jeep owners around here say their wranglers do the same thing.

Fuel spray/overflow when refueling. this could be very dangerous! when refueling, there was significant blowback or a very heavy mist which saturated my shirt and pants with gas. fuel then began to run down the side of my jeep, onto the ground. this occurred simultaneously with the auto shutoff function of the pump.

When filling vehicle gasoline sprays out of the tank in large amounts. it sprays out with such force it will cover your legs if you are standing near by.

Whenever i add gasoline (from any station), a considerable amount of fuel will slosh back out of the filler right before the pump kicks off. checking with the dealer and other sources, it's a known problem. however, jeep is only concerned with fixing the 2007 and newer jk models. their fix for those models is an extension of the warranty. my other sources say that it's rampant in years prior as well. the dealer service manager says it's the rollover valve that goes bad. the valve isn't repairable. the entire fuel tank needs replaced.

When filling the gas tank every time the fuel sprays out of the filler nozzle before the pump can auto shutoff. every time - this causes gas to leak down the side of the vehicle, on me befroe i learned to get out of the way and all over the ground. the only way to stop this from happening is to not fill up all the way with gas. otherwise it does this every single fill up.

All of the sudden my jeep satarted taking for ever to fill and shoots gas out all over me and the ground... i have to stand a there and barely let tha gas trickle into the tank and i cannot even set it on the lowest lever for handle it takes me about 20 min to put 40.00 dollars worth of gas in it,,,, the dealer said there is no recall for this and was not covered under the emissions warranty... they aslo told me to check fuel filler pipe for obstructions and to pull our my vapor canister and clean it.... i did both and it didnt fix a thing..im also understanding that there are hundreds of people having this problem..... i worked for chrysler dealerships for years and really dont understand why they wont take any actions.... i bought this jeep brand new from where i was working at... it was my dream vehicle... now im not so sure...

When adding fuel to the 2006 jeep wrangler either with an automatic shut off pump or by hand the fuel over sprays out of the nozzle hole when the tank becomes full. this happens at any speed you add fuel spilling gas all over the side of the vehicle, on the person adding the fuel, and all over the ground at the gas station. this most likely is caused but vacuum pressure not being released correctly by the fuel inlet hose and would be a design and manufacture flaw.

Every time you fill the vehicle up with gas, gas comes pouring out of the filler opening. this happens on all types of gas pumps. something is wrong with the tank of venting system because the pumps never automatically shut off when the tank is full. gas spills all over the side of the car. many other jeep owners have this same problem.

Gas tank over flow every time i fill my wrangler unlimited with gas. jeep says only 07 and 08 are recalled not 06.they don't think a quart of gas all over the jeep and the ground, hello, is a problem, wow unreal. maybe e.p.a should care. apparently all 05 an 06 wranglers were not recalled outrageous!!! jeep and the e.p.a should care a lot more about our environment!! its disgusting and something has to be done about it. ps i bought my jeep used previous owner never told me about the problem but from what i read all do the same.

Gas still out when filling up gas tank. the system doesn't stop at gas pumps all other cars ever driven. gas always stills out before it stops the pump. this occurs at all pumps and appears to be a common and ongoing issue with jeep owners.

The auto shut-off feature of the fuel system does not work. when i fill up the gas tank, fuel will spray / spill out. the first occurrence that i experienced was around 40k miles. i brought it to the dealership (as it was still under warranty). they advised me that they could find nothing wrong. at that point, it was occurring intermittently. at some point shortly after the warranty expired, the auto shut-off feature of the fuel system failed completely. now, every time that i fill up the gas tank, fuel will spray / spill out. this issue continues to this day. this is a safety issue (fuel spilled on the vehicle, on the operator and on the ground) and an environmental issue (fuel spilled on the ground), not to mention the economic issue of paying for wasted gasoline at about $4 per gallon. based upon the number of reported issues with this, i can't believe that there has not been a recall to remediate this problem. there is definitely something faulty with the design and/or manufacture of the parts used in the 2006 jeep wrangler. this is not something that someone should have to deal with in a vehicle that they purchased when new and have impeccably maintained.

The gas always over fills and spills out when your filling it up. this happens everytime i fill up the gas. it does not matter what station i am at or what the weather is like. this has been happening ever since i bought the jeep. everyone i know that owns a jeep has the same problem occuring. this is a major fire hazard and also not what i want to happen when gas is almost $4.00 a gallon.

Just bought the jeep late september and everytime i fill it the gas spills out all over me, the jeep and the ground. its not always reliable to guess when it is close to done so i tend to stand back so it misses me. still gas goes everywhere which is a safety hazard. i have heard from other jeep owners that this is a common problem, and the price to fix it has doubled. the jeep dealer tells me that they cover the fix for 2007 and 2008 but not 2006. really? why would that be?

My fuel tank started overflowing around 40,000 miles. it will no longer force the fuel nozzle to shut off when the tank is full. instead it overfills and spews on the ground, my jeep, and me. i did some research and realized this is a very common problem with jeeps in my year range. please help.
03/16/201121000
When filling the fuel tank, whether the hose nozzle is operated manually or automatically, gas spurts from the tank spraying out 18-24. this happens consistently regardless of pumping speed/pressure, ambient temperature/weather conditions or brand of gasoline. i am concerned about safety issues regarding fire and fumes as well as damage to the vehicle's paint and plastic fenders. i have had clothing ruined by the spurting gasoline.

When filling the gas tank, the gas pump auto shut off works, but only after spraying gasoline on me, the vehicle and the ground. this has happened 4 times in a row at different pumps of different gas stations.

The fuel filler on my 2006 jeep wrangler does not prevent the fuel from spilling when i fill my fuel tank. this problem happens every time (100%) i refuel. the problem occurs no matter how slowly i fill the tank. spraying gasoline is dangerous and toxic. i feel this problem needs to be addressed by jeep.

Overspill during refueling, every time. fuel does not stop automatically and overflows (sprews) out onto side of vehicle, onto pavement and also onto driver's clothes. this has happened at numerous different gas stations and pumps. this presents a very dangerous situation and could result in serious injury or death is the fuel is ignited.

I'm writing the nhtsa to provide my experience with a gas overflow issue on my 2006 jeep unlimited. without fail, at each fill-up, the gas nozzle will allow gas to backflow out of the filler neck, past the vapor recovery system and spray outward and drain down the car. in most cases, as much as 1.5-2 quarts of gasoline is spewing out of the filler neck. in almost all cases, employees from the station must come out and complete remediation efforts to absorb the spilled gas. in most cases, i receive a good dousing of gas on my hands and clothes. i have contacted the dealership and because my car is out of warranty due to age, not miles, they have informed me that i will need to pay upwards of $1,000 for a new gas tank with the same faulty check-valve design. i understand that chrysler is aware of the issue and that they state the cause to be from a swollen check-valve related to ethanol gas. i am at a loss as to how to proceed and am looking for the nhtsa to step in and force a recall.

Every time i get gas at the pump, at the end of filling the tank it gushes out a ton of gasoline all over the side of my jeep, all over the pump/handle itself, creating a dangerous fire hazard. this happens every time. i've read online it's a known issue but hasn't yet had a recall or a fix? so am filing in hopes of a fix from the manufacturer. i've also read there is some kind of fix but it may be costly. but it's a safety issue and needs resolved.

When i am filling up my gas tank at the gas station, the tank overflows and spills out onto the ground and on the side of my vehicle. i cannot fill the tank until the nozzle shuts off the gas because it is full. i must estimate about how full the gas tank is, and stop it before it is full. it does not matter if i leave the nozzle clicked onto self pump or if i am trying to top it off, there is nothing that censors that it is full so it spills over.

Jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited fuel overflows everytime at the pump. does not matter where i fill up or how i put the nozzel in the tank. fuel pump shuts off and split seconds later about a cup of fuel will spit out, about 1 to 2 feet and run down the body. if you were standing in the wrong spot it would be a real mess. i just purchased this vehicle used and called the previous owner - he said he bought it with 8000 miles on it and it has done it since it was new.

The gas tank overflow shutoff doesn't work. once the tank fills, gas spills out all over which could create a safety problem.

Almost every time i fill my jeep with gas it overflows. a good amount of gas spills out of the gas tank before the pump shuts off.
03/16/201172461
When fueling up with gas, the nozzle will shut off when tank is full and gas will then overflow out of the tank fill spout. this happens at every fueling at every gas station now. this is a sudden and new occurrence as the vehicle has never done this prior to this year. ( i have owned since new 2006) as imagined gas will flow out onto the vehicle, ground, person filling gas, etc.

Since ive bought my wrangler in december 2009 the gas tank will overflow and spill out enough gas to cover the vehicle on the side below the gas cap and spill a puddle on to the ground. ive read numerous complaints about this issue and there is no recall currently out there for it. i feel this is a hazard because it means something is being left open inside the tank to allow the gas to overflow outof the fill tube. on top of this every time i fill the vehicle up im spilling gas onto the ground which is both an environmental concern and a safety issue.

Every time i fill the tank with gasoline, it spews out and runs out on the ground and down the vehicle side. this did not occur when the vehicle was new, it started when the vehicle was about two years old. it does, however, happen every time i fill the tank, now. it seems to me that this is not only a fire hazard, but a big environmental hazard.

My 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited has just started having an issue where the gas spews out of the fill neck before the pump handle clicks off. this has happened the last 3 times i have filled up. this is at a station where i have filled up many times without incident. not only does this get gas on my vehicle and person, this spills gas all over the pump handle and ground at the station. this is a major inconvienience to myself, damaging to my vehicles paint, and most importantly dangerous. i have read of a large number of individuals with this issue on their jeep vehicles. i would expect jeep would be responsible for correcting this issue due to the dangerous, wasteful, and simply unacceptable condition. for me personally, i don't expect that with 46k miles on my jeep that this should happen, and be the responsibility of the owner to fix. i hope that there can be some action taken to hold jeep responsible, and remedy this (common) issue. thank you.

My 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited has just started having an issue where the gas spews out of the fill neck before the pump handle clicks off. this has happened the last 3 times i have filled up. this is at a station where i have filled up many times without incident. not only does this get gas on my vehicle and person, this spills gas all over the pump handle and ground at the station. this is a major inconvienience to myself, damaging to my vehicles paint, and most importantly dangerous. i have read of a large number of individuals with this issue on their jeep vehicles. i would expect jeep would be responsible for correcting this issue due to the dangerous, wasteful, and simply unacceptable condition. for me personally, i don't expect that with 46k miles on my jeep that this should happen, and be the responsibility of the owner to fix. i hope that there can be some action taken to hold jeep responsible, and remedy this (common) issue. thank you.

When filling up at the gas station gas spews out of the tank when it nears full splashing everything within a foot of the car including at times myself. this happens each and every time i try to fill up. i always have to try to stop the pump before it's full. if i so choose to try to fill the tank i have to try to listen to determine when the gas might spew back out on me and let me tell you that's definitely not a fool proof method as i've been sprayed with gas numerous times trying this method. if i try to fill the tank and stand away from the tank so as to miss the spray then gas spews everywhere; on the ground, back on the gas pump itself, and down the side of my car; which by the way damages the paint. this is a huge danger not only to myself but to others as well. i can't believe that chrysler offered a recall on other years with the exact same problem but not on this model year. they've acknowledged that this is an issue in their jeeps so why not offer a recall on all years with this problem? i'm sorely disappointed that chrysler cares so little for their customers safety and even the safety of the general public since they could be affected by the spewing gas as well. we shouldn't have to pay for a manufacturer's defect.

Fuel tank consistently overfills. problems causes gasloine to overfill the tank and flow down the side of the vehicle and collect in a pool. this problem intitally started slowly but now occurs consistently at all gasoline stations. based on other jeep wrangler owners experience this appears to be a common problem that should be corrected by the manufacturer.

2006 jeep wrangler that has had a problem with overflowing fuel while filling it up since acquired at 7,000 miles. this problem poses a significant safety problem as well as a negative environmental impact. the problem has been reported to chrysler, but they stated my jeep wasn't affected by the recall that they have issued on the exact same fuel tank components being used in other models.

On my 2006 jeep wrangler sport, the gas tank overflows fuel every single time i have to refil the tank. the tank apparently does not vent properly, which causes the auto-shut-off feature on gas pumps to fail until the tank overflows, spitting gasoline out (over a foot from the side of the vehicle at times), hitting the individual filling up the tank and making a mess of the side of the vehicle. this fuel overflow issue occurs 100% of the time. upon speaking wth the dealership, i was told that they will not warranty this, but that it is a common problem among 1997-present wranglers. chrysler issued a recall for this problem on 2007-later wrangers, but refuses to take responsibility for the 2006 and older models. reviewing both local and national jeep internet forums, i have seen forum threads on this topic with literally hundreds of 1997-2006 jeep wrangler owners claiming the same problem as i am having with my 2006 wrangler. the cost to replace the fuel tank, the only solution, is at a cost of $1100-$1200. this is a very serious problem and needs to be addressed immediately. to date, i have not had any personal injury or damage, as asked below, but that is only a matter of time!

I recently purchased a 2006 jeep wrangler with 37,000 miles. when filling the gas tank on my jeep the fuel will not stop flow when the tank is full. instead gas spews out of the filler every time i refuel, resulting in a significant loss of fuel. this happens every time i refuel and occurs at different gas stations. after reading multiple complaints regarding the same issue on the internet suggesting that it is a problem with the jeep itself, i wanted to report this event.

Fuel overflows and ejects from vehicle at every refueling. it cannot be controlled no matter how slow the rate of refuel. often fuel will eject and splash onto the person refueling. sometimes fuel will eject and splash into, or near the face.

Every time i fill up my gas tank it overflows, spilling gas down my jeep before automatically shutting off the gas coming out of the hose. this has happened every time since i purchased it new from the dealership. many other jeep friends have voiced the same problem.

My 2006 jeep wrangler spits gasoline out at me when filling the vehicle! it always happens when nearing full, no matter what i do to try to avoid it from happening. sometimes it spits forcefully, hard enough to get gasoline on me, sometimes it's just a minor spit that just dribbles down the vehicle. either way, it occurs every time i attempt to fill the tank to full. i have resorted to only putting 10 gallons of gasoline in at a time, and only if the fuel guage reads below 1/4, to ensure i don't have to experience the gasoline spit-back. no parts have been replaced or repaired yet.

Every time i try to fill the gas tank up to full, the fuel will overflow out of the filler neck. also, when i pump gas, the fuel will often backflow into the pump, causing it to shut off prematurely (about every 10 seconds, regardless of amount of gas in tank). this has been an ongoing problem ever since i first purchased the vehicle. my only choice is to never fill my gas tank all the way, and pump the gas slowly.

I have purchased a used 2006 jeep wrangler from a local dealership around two years ago, and within the past year i have noticed gas gushes out of my fuel tank every time i get fuel. at first i thought it was the gas attendant, as it is illegal in nj to pump your own fuel, however this is now occurring everytime. i am worried my paint will become ruined or my car might catch on fire if it is too hot. i also do not have the means to pump my own gas and i don't need this problem to cause more issues down the road since the spilled gas has already discolored my stock fender flare. i know i am not the only one with this problem and it needs to be looked into because this is a safety issue, and once the gas spills over making everything on the inside reak of fumes.
06/10/2009100000
Summary:each time the fuel tank is filled, gasoline gushes out the fill spout on to the vehicle and the ground or pavement. this can not be avoided if completely filling the vehicle with fuel. fuel tank can only partially be filled. this problem poses an extreme fire danger to any person filling the fuel tank. sure hope that someone dont die in order for something to actually get done!

When refueling my 2006 wrangler jeep gas surges out of the tank prior to the pump shutting off. i have not measured the amount spilled but it is enough to create approximately a 24-36 diameter wet spot on the ground. this happens every time i fill my vehicle no matter which filling station i use. this seems like a significant safety and environmental hazard considering it splashes on my arm and clothing if i am holding onto the pump handle or standing within arms reach of the nozzle and the spilled fuel is becoming a ground or water contaminate one way or another as it is soaked up or washes away.

When fueling the the tank burps fuel out the vehicle fill tube after the fill nozzle has shut off. this occurs often. at first occurrence i assumed that the flow into the tank was too fast, and began slow filling to prevent it this initially has some success, as it did not happen every time. the problem has gotten worse, and now it happens every time even when filling slow.

I have a 2006 jeep wrangler. everytime i fuel my vehicle at the pump, fuel will spew out before the pump shuts off. i asked the dealer about this when i first purchased the vehicle and stated that they would not do anything about and blamed it on me basically. i started putting the fuel in slower and it works most of the time but sometimes i still will have fuel spew out before the pump clicks off, no matter how slow i try. searching online forums, i have found out i am not the only one to have this problem, on the contrary there are many others with this same exact problem, between 97-06 tj jeep wrangler models.

My 2006 jeep wrangler has developed a consistent failure to stop pumps at gas stations from continuing to pump fuel even though the tank is full. as a result, gasoline is spat out from the filler neck of the gas tank like a burst from a fountain, splashing out on the ground, on the side of the vehicle, and generally on me, the operator of the gas pump. it started about a year ago, and it now exhibits this behavior consistently every time i fill up. this is a problem not only due to the cumulative environmental impact of spilling out raw gasoline and of ruining clothing and resulting in carrying with me the strong smell of gasoline all day at work and at home, but it is also a clear and appalling safety hazard with raw gasoline splashed around. the jeep dealership has recommended a very costly replacement of the entire gas tank assembly at my own expense and has said that this will only temporarily relieve the symptoms, that the design has not changed and thus the problem will continue to resurface.

Gasoline spill each time fuel tank is filled. at about the same time the tank reaches full and shuts off the gas flow at the nozzle a large volume of gasoline rushes out of the filler neck of the vehicle and onto the pavement. potentially dangerous situation and quite prevalent in this model vehicle.

Multiple instances of gas tank in my 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited overflowing, due to possible check valve malfunction and/or improper design from factory. when filling ones gas tank, you would expect the pump to stop once the tank has reached its capacity. however due to a faulty in-tank check valve, the pump never gets the pressure change as a signal to stop the flow. hence, every time i fill up i end up spilling a not-insignificant amount of fuel on the ground. this issue is absolutely not operator error, it is a known defect by jeep/chrysler.
07/12/201018000
The gas spills out everytime i fill up. the pump does not click off until gas sprays out of the filler neck. it is not the gas pump because this is an ongoing problem and i fill up and may different places.

Fuel spews from fuel tank during fill up. fuel nozzle would shut off normally until recently it has now become a problem. this should not happen and this problem is potentially very dangerous to not only myself but to others sharing adjacent pumps not to mention the environment.

While fueling vehicle at gas station, fuel splashes out before fuel pump shuts off at fill up. regardless of gas station or speed at which pump is set at fuel always spills unto vehicle and ground. it is apparent that the fuel tank's roll over check valve is at fault.

When i attempt to fill my gas tank, the gas comes back out of the tank. i have tried this by going slow & when the gas shuts off, i shake the jeep to get the air out of the tank - when i do this the air pocket pushes gas back out of the tank even when i don't have the fuel nozzle still in the tank. this isn't the first time that this has happened - i purchased the jeep in st. augustine, fl in january, 2011 & i had to get gas right after purchasing it. the first time i had the auto shut-off on the gas filler - it clicked off & gas started flowing back out of the tank. at first i thought that the gas filler nozzle was defective, & notified the convenience store about the overlfow - i asked for some dry agent to capture the gas that had spilled over. the attendant shut the pump station down, & said they would call someone to check out the filler nozzle. the next time that i needed gas (back in orlando, fl) the jeep was back near empty (fuel light on). i used the auto click-off on the filler - same shit, different day! i heard the click of the auto-shut off & within a second, gas was pouring back out of the fuel neck of the jeep. people who were pumping their own gas heard the fuel come out of the tank (and heard me curse, lol!) they couldn't believe what they saw. i'm not sure how much fuel poured back out of the fuel neck of the jeep (and the tank for that matter), but there was a pool of fuel on the ground. i notified the fuel attendant of the situation & they didn't have any dry-sorb chemical to absorb the fuel. i used paper towels to clean it up. now i have to resort to fill the jeep with no more than 12 gallons (no more shaking or the fuel may come back out). i've been told that the internal valve is defective or that the use of ethanol in the jeep has destoyed the internal vale. i don't give a damn what has caused it - this is a dangerous situation that needs to be resolved. there are thousands of jeeps that have the same problem - do your job nhtsa.gov!!!

During re-fueling my 2006 jeep wrangler, fuel will come back out of the inlet when the fuel level reaches the top. it spills no matter how slow or fast i fuel the vehicle. i have been reading on internet community sites that this is a large scale problem and that i should log a complaint.

Faulty fuel tank causes fuel spill every time tank is filled. i bought this jeep a year ago and every single time i've filled the tank it spits back fuel when the tank is filled. i would guess 4-5 ounces of fuel get spilled on the ground every time the tank is filled. dealership diagnosed the problem and says the tank is faulty and needs to be replaced.

When refilling my jeep with gas it occasionally overflows. i didn't know if it was a pump or jeep issue until i started hearing more people having the issue and realized it was a jeep issue and not a pump issue. i understand that the 2007-2008s have a tsb and djc will fix for free, but my jeep is a 2006 and has this problem and i am not covered. i would like the tsb to include all jeeps.

It seems a check valve that is part of the fuel tank failed. regardless of gas station, nozzle position or flow rate i always get gas splash back when i fill up the tank. it is my understanding that replacement gas tanks have the same defect that will cause them to fail in a short period of time.

My gas tank will overflow if i am not incredibly careful with the gas nozzle. this has happened repeated times and on one occasion poured gas on my shoes. (i now stand pretty far back whenever i am filling up) it has also poured down the side of the jeep, discoloring the fender and paint, as well as leaving an approximate 1-2 foot puddle of gas on the ground at the gas station. i'd guess about 1/4 to 1/3 gallon of gas will gush out each time it overflows. to fix this (according to chrysler) would cost between $800 and $1000. how is this in any possible way *not* a safety hazard???!

When filling jeep wrangler, the automatic fuel shutoff feature of pump does not work, and gas sprays out briefly before shutting off, spilling on vehicle, operator, and ground. i have had tank replaced by dealer at 50,000 miles, cost of $350 to me. i understand that you have closed the investigation into this, and if so, you are truly incompetent idiots (i'm sorry, but come on). this is a defective product with safety and environmental negative impact! even though i have replaced my tank at some personal expense, i believe that it is with the same product, and i fully expect it to fail again in the future. wouldn't you expect a modern vehicle, even a simple one to be able to fill without getting gas on yourself, the vehicle, and the ground?!!! please consider re-opening the case; the idea that the internet created this problem is ridiculous.

Nothing leading up to it. it happens every time i fill the gas tank. it overflows all over the ground. it has happened since i bought my jeep brand new in 2006. i have done nothing to fix it except never actually fill it all the way i usually stop about a gallon or two short. but sometimes don't let go of the pump in time and it still overflows.

Fuel spills out at every time i fill up.
02/20/201140000
2006 rubicon with 40k miles. fuel sprays out from the gasoline fill tube and runs down the outside of the vehicle onto the pavement every time the vehicle is refueled. the dealership says the fuel tank must be replaced to correct the issue. it doesn't make sense to pay for a new fuel tank with the same defect. this is apparently a widespread issue and should be recalled.
01/19/201175000
When filling the gas tank in my 2006 jeep wrangler tj, the fuel overflows and spills/splashes all over the side of the vehicle, and ground. jeep knows about this issue but refuses to do anything about it.
09/01/20060
Nothing leading up to it. it happens every time i fill the gas tank. it overflows all over the ground. it has happened since i bought my jeep brand new in 2006. i have done nothing to fix it except never actually fill it all the way i usually stop about a gallon or two short. but sometimes don't let go of the pump in time and it still overflows.

Gasoline splash back from filler neck when filling tank. this occurs every time tank is filled.
02/01/201130000
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited, and almost every time i fill up the gas tank it overflows, often spraying a significant amount of fuel before the pump shuts off. this did not happen when it was new, but has been happening off and on, getting progressively worse, for the past 3 years. i believe this presents both a fire hazard and an environmental hazard, and i know that many other wrangler owners have observed the same problem.
02/16/201150000
Fuel spills out during regular pumping at gas station. this happens during the end of the pumping when the tank is almost full. gasoline will shoot out of the filler spout and onto the ground.

I have a 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited 2 door that every time i fill the gas tank up at the pump it releases a substanitial amount of gasoline through the inlet as it is turning the pump off. this occurs every time i fill my tank and is very dangerous seeing as i get fuel on my skin and then have to get in the vehicle w/ my 4year old daughter. i am not sure what to do to correct the failure.

When filling up my 2006 jeep wrangler rubicon gas will spray out on initial shut off of the gas pump. i've had this problem looked at, but was told it was normal for that to happen from time to time. then, i complained to jeep and they allowed the dealership to switch out tanks because my jeep was under warranty. this was only a temporary fix...gas still sprays out!!!

The fuel filler neck/gas tank on my 2006 jeep wrangler has filling problems. any time i go to fill up on gas the pump does not click off in time and gas literally shoots out of the filler neck all over the bumper of the jeep and on the ground. i haven't tried to measure the volume of gas that shoots out each time, but i would estimate at least 6-8oz of fuel.

During fueling, whenthe fuel pump nozzle automatically stops the flow of gasoline , fuel surges back through the filler tube and vigorously splashes out on the side of the vehicle and anything or person within 2 to 3 feet of the fuel filler. this occurs every time the fuel tank is filled and has drenched the person filling the vehicle from the waist down with gasoline on two occasions. has spilled fuel on every fillup (at least one cup), despite precautions (slowing filling rate). manufacturer and dealer have done nothing to correct this problem, this happens almost every time i fill up.

When refueling the vehicle, gasoline is spit back out of the filler neck when the automatic shutoff releases and the tank is full. if the filler nozzle has splash guard, spilled fuel runs down the side of the vehicle on to the ground. otherwise fuel is shot out up to 5 feet and cover anything or anybody within the radius of the spill. no remedy found, it always happens.

When filling up my gas tank, fuel blows out of the (gas fill up opening) when...it almost reaches full (about 6 gallons to go). in the last year it done this about 15 times.

Fuel spray everytime i fill the vehicle. fuel pump does not sense tank is full and sprays fuel everywhere. widely reported by fellow jeep wrangler owners across the country. chrysler denies problem while replacing some tanks with new tank that continues to use faulty design. currently there is no aftermarket help or support for this issue and certainly none from chrysler or jeep.

Gas tank overfills at every fill-up. gas shoots out all over and has gotten on clothes on several occasions. this seems dangerous.

2006 jeep wrangler x. when i go to fill up my gas tank, if i let it fill to complete i get a huge back spray of gasoline in my face, on my car, and all over the ground. i have tried to fill it up slow, adjust the neck of the filler, taken my jeep to a mechanic, all to no avail. it occurs everytime i go to fill up my gas tank if i let if fill completely up. apparently the problem is the gas tank itself. gasoline spraying from my filler is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed by chrysler jeep corp. please consider that i am not the only one with this issue.

08/01/200935000
Fuel spray everytime i fill the vehicle. fuel pump does not sense tank is full and sprays fuel everywhere. widely reported by fellow jeep wrangler owners across the country. chrysler denies problem while replacing some tanks with new tank that continues to use faulty design. currently there is no aftermarket help or support for this issue and certainly none from chrysler or jeep.

12/12/201035000
Fuel spilling during refueling. fuel rushes out of tank when close to full.
09/15/201019000
Every time i fill up with gas, the auto shutoff doesn't work and spills gas all over my jeep and the ground. it happens regardless of gas station, temperature, how far the nozzle is pushed into the filler, etc. it happens every single time i fill up. it has done this for no apparent reason, since the day i bought it with only 19k miles on it. i checked the vent line going from the tank to the filler neck, and its fine. eventually the gas has started to wear away the paint finish, and the finish on the flare. not to mention a hazardous material spill.

When fueling my 2006 jeep wrangler the gas pump will not shut off and gas sprays from the tank. i have tried several stations and the problem continues. after doing some research i have found many issues similar to mine. the common conclusion is the roll-over antispill valve has gone bad and this part is not replaceable on its own. so it seems that the whole fuel tank needs replacing. it seems this part needs to be recalled as it has a high rate of failure.

I have a 2006 jeep wrangler that is shooting gasoline out of it after it is filled up with gas. basically, after the fueling is complete and the pump clicks off, gasoline shoots out of the filler neck and all over the side of the car, the ground, and the pump. it is only a matter of time until this defect causes a fire at a station or gets somebody killed. jeep is refusing to repair this problem. there are quite a few jeep owners who are reporting this same problem.

06 jeep wrangler rubicon tank overflow/splash back when refueling. at every fill up regardless of pump handle style, angle or depth of pump nozzle or station location, a large amount of fuel splashes back at the point when it should cut off. it douses me and my vehicle and the ground with gasoline. problem began appx 2 years ago at roughly 40k miles and has been continuous to date. no action has been taken to resolve this problem because no specific solution has been found.

 1. failure apparent since beginning of ownership. 2. fuel spills out of gas tank upon filling the gas tank in a normal fashion. failure occurs every time gas tank is filled completely. gas spills out of tank, over the outside of the vehicle, and on to the ground at the gas pump. 3. no attempts to correct failure at this point.

Fuel spilling at every fill up, from reading on the internet it seems to be a very common problem with jeep wranglers. it happens at every fuel station and doesn't matter if the nozzle is half in or totally in.

I have a 2006 unlimited jeep wrangler and a couples years ago, while my car was still under warranty, the gas tank started overflowing, the pump did not stop and gas would get all over the car, my clothing, etc. the dealership then replaced the entire gas tank. recently this problem began again and i had to contact the manufacturer directly and then the dealership to get this fixed. i ended up paying approximately $222 to get a new gas tank again. when i went fill up the car after picking it up from being supposedly fixed i realized that it was not fixed and gas was all over my car. it seems as if this is a reoccurring problem and replacing the gas tank is a short term fix or no fix at all. needless to say, i have to bring my wrangler back to the dealership again.

2006 jeep wrangler x i recently purchased this vehicle used with 58,000 miles. i discovered a very dangerous condition when filling up with gas. the gas flow to the tank does not properly turn off when the tank becomes full. the first time this happened to me i was sprayed with gasoline on my chest ... nearly missing my face. i thought this was a fluke but it happened again the next time i filled up. i've learned to only fill up the tank half way. i did an internet search and found that this is a very common problem with newer jeep wranglers. it is also an environmental issue as well because gasoline just travels down the jeep and into the ground. i have learned through jeep internet forums that this is a very common issue with jeep wranglers. this issue must be addressed by chrysler through a vehicle recall. there will definately be deaths/injuries from this if it is not properly addressed by chrysler.

2006 jeep wrangler rubicon - problem started to occur at 49k miles(could have been earler-i bought the car at this mileage, 2nd owner). gas would spit/flow out of the fill port before the pump clicks off for full. it always goes on your hands, clothes, floor and down the side of the jeep. at 52k(currently have 84k) it happens every time now. so now you have to put your ear close to the gas tank and listen for it to become almost full, and stop pumping quickly before it overfills and spits out.(this is the only way to get a full tank) on several occasions, if there is a lot of ambient noise, you will miss the almost full sounds and it'll spray gasoline on your face/clothes. i'm sick of dealing with this issue, im out of warranty, so dealer is no help. also when travelling to nj, the gas attendants are full serve only by law, and they complain to me every time i need to get gas in nj. it spits gas all over the attendant. this is a serious safety issue, i get gas on my skin almost every time i'm refueling the jeep. chrysler/jeep needs to do a recall. there are thousands+ of these complaints.

I've been dealing with this problem for 4 years. while fueling, gasoline will overflow without cutting off. also, it is very difficult to pump a full tank with all of the back pressure caused the neck and gas tank problems. this is very dangerous and needs to be investigated on models later that 2007.

Every time we fill our gas tank it sprays out all over when full. dealership says we must pay for a new fuel tank to repair this issue. this is a faulty flap inside tank. we will not pay for a new tank since they have the same flap design. this should be recalled.

I've been dealing with this problem for 4 years. while fueling, gasoline will overflow without cutting off. also, it is very difficult to pump a full tank with all of the back pressure caused the neck and gas tank problems. this is very dangerous and needs to be investigated on models later that 2007.
11/15/201050150
Every time we fill our gas tank it sprays out all over when full. dealership says we must pay for a new fuel tank to repair this issue. this is a faulty flap inside tank. we will not pay for a new tank since they have the same flap design. this should be recalled.

When filling vehicle with gas, the fuel sprays back out of the gas filler neck once the tank becomes full. there is no way to predict when this will happen, other than simply not filling up the tank anywhere near full.

2006 jeep wrangler x, everytime i fill up at the pump gas will rush out of the filler neck. this wrangler has never been modified and only has 15000 miles on it. of course this is not only a safety issue for myself, but for others at the pumps next to me as well. jeep has not given me an answer to the problem, and does not have a recall. amazing.
10/29/2010
My 06 jeep wrangler rubicon over flows gas at the pump before the pump clicks off. this will be as i am manually fueling (hand still on pump handle). comes gushing out causing fuel to be spilt, gas on paint, and the smell of gasoline on clothes when highly pressurized.
10/29/201010000
Fuel blows out from the gasoline fill tube, runs down the outside of the vehicle and spills onto the pavement every time vehicle is refueled. sometimes the fuel blows out with such force it splashes onto whoever is holding the nozzle. the pump nozzle will shut off as the tank is filled but fuel will simultaneously blow out of the fill tube. it does not matter which gas station is used, it happens at every gas station, and has happened in several states. this vehicle has not been modified in any way and has not been in a collision or damaged in any way. the dealer suggested replacing the tank at my expense, but would not guarantee that even complete replacement would correct the problem.

During fueling of a 2006 jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited, when the fuel pump nozzle automatically stops the flow of gasoline as the fuel tank fills, fuel surges back through the filler tube and vigorously splashes out on the side of the vehicle and anything or person within 2 to 3 feet of the fuel filler. this occurs every time the fuel tank is filled and has drenched the person filling the vehicle from the waist down with gasoline on two occasions. has spilled fuel on every fillup (at least one cup), despite precautions (slowing filling rate). manufacturer and dealer have done nothing to correct this problem,

Just purchased a used 06 jeep wrangler in perfect condition with 16000+ miles, took it to fill it up and gas ran out on my first fill up. now i have to estimate how much gas i need and when i get the that amount, i slowly fill the tank to full. (8/100
08/15/2010
Every time i fill up at the gas station the pump will overflow if i'm filling up the tank. the pump doesn't stop unless i pull the nozzle out at which point gas will spill all over the the rear flare and paint. it happens at all gas stations. this is in my opinion a very serious safety issue. it appears chrysler is going to wait for an ignition source to be around for someone to get seriously injured or die before they resolve this.
06/25/201070000
 1. i get low on fuel and need to refuel my wrangler. 2. gas overflows the tank filler tube and spills fuel all over the back of the vehicle, tires, ground, and depending where i am standing, me. it occurs just about every time i fill me vehicle up, at many different stations with different nozzle types. 3. there has been nothing done to correct the problem.
04/29/2010
I purchased an '06 jeep wrangler se, completely stock. from the first time i refueled to this day if i let it fill up all the way gas comes pouring out after the pump clicks off. i have tried other stations, its the jeep's fault. since then i have search forums with similar complaints with no real answers. most have the dealership reinstall a new gas tank. i gave out enough money for the wrangler, i wasn't planning on shelling out more this soon.
01/25/200935000
My 2006 jeep wrangler started blowing back gas out of the tank everytime i fill it up. i have tried to be ultra careful to stop it when it sounds like it's getting full, but even then within a couple of seconds it still overflows out onto the vehicle, the ground and me. it has been on going since my jeep hit around 35,000 miles.
06/01/201039000
On 2006 jeep wrangler the fuel overflows at every fuel up. fuel sprays out after the nozzle auto shut off clicks off, approx 1-2 seconds. this is clearly a defect in design of the tanks internal flapper valve.
06/08/2010
After filling gas tank, pressure built up sprays at least a cup of gas out of the filler neck. happens every time the tank is filled to the automatic stop point at gas stations. sprays person operating gas pump, pours gas down rear fender. to correct failure i have stopped filling my tank, only buying gas in smaller increments

Gas tank overfills and spills on ground at fill up
06/04/201021058
Gas pumps do not properly shut off and overflow of fuel is spilled onto the ground. i have read that this is a problem with the gas tank design of many different types of jeep wranglers but chrysler refuses to acknowledge the problem.
01/01/200730000
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler x, there is a fault from the factory gas tank, which when i fill my tank with fuel it does not allow the pump to auto shut off, and spews a decent ammount of gas from the vehicle. this happens when ever i fill up. i have not found a way to correct this issue, and the only thing that seems to be happening to fix it, is replacing the tank with an oe style tank that has the same faulty valve inside it

While putting gas in my '06 jeep wrangler sport, the tank over filled, causing gas to come out of the filler neck. this has happened to me a few times with in the past couple of weeks. incident has occurred at various gas stations and while using older and newer pumps.

When refueling vehicle, gas pump auto-shut-off fails and gasoline spills out filler neck onto rear panel and ground. depending on handle setting, spill is either backsplash or just overflow, but always spills.

2006 jeep wrangler. filling up the tank and gas pours out instead of shutting off when full.
02/25/200625
While filling my 2006 jeep wrangler with gas, it always spills fuel when the tank is full instead of shutting off. fuel spills down the rear quarterpanel of the jeep and onto the ground, many times fuel sprays back onto me, my hands and my clothes. this occurs any time i let the tank fill completely full and the pump stop itself.

Fuel tank filler overflows when filling at the pump, gas shoots out, on me, the jeep, the ground.

I have a 2006 jeep wrangler and the gas tank overflows every time i fill up. i have numerous jeep friends that have the same problem.
04/14/201016000
Beginning two years ago, gasoline began to overflow from the fill spout of my 2006 jeep wrangler whenever i filled the tank to anywhere near its full capacity. to this day this continues to result in gasoline spilling on vehicle myself and the ground almost every time i fill my tank. the only remedy i have found is to not fill the tank all the way up, which is sometime difficult to determine. the local dealership determined i needed a new fuel tank installed ($700). i have not had the tank replaced as there is no guarantee that the problem will not occur again as the parts are, to the best of my knowledge, not updated from the parts on the vehicle now. obviously this is a safety and environmental problem not being properly addressed or even admitted to by the manufacturer.

My 2006 jeep wrangler tj every time i fill up with gas the gas comes spewing out instead of shutting off. i am very careful & try to listen to catch it...nope ...spews gas after some research, i find i am not the only one. its a variety of jeeps from 2000 - 2006
04/11/2010
Fuel spills from fuel tank. the pump will shut off but the fuel will eject out of the filler tube. i have been splashed with fuel. this has been a constant problem with fueling. even running the pump at lowest speed the condition still occurs. if i shut the pump handle off early, it will sometimes prevent the spill. not always.
11/20/200818000
I have not been able to fill up my 2006 jeep wrangler since the day i bought it. when the tank is full, the gas over flows out of the filler tube and goes all over the fender flare and rear quarter panel. sometimes, if i don't get out of the way fast enough, i'll get gas on me as well.

When filling the fuel tank, about 1/4 cup of fuel spills out every time.

When filling the fuel tank, the automatic cut-off does not function causing the tank to overfill spilling gasoline on the vehicle and ground.
04/06/2010
When i fill my 2006 jeep wrangler with fuel it sprays out of the tank back towards the pump before shutting off, every time. it overfills the tank. it's discoloring the paint on my vehicle, it causes a gas spill on the pavement, and it often gets fuel on my hand and clothes. i have had the vehicle since it had 19,000 miles on it. it now has 42,000, and the problem continues. a couple thousand miles ago i installed a 1 body lift as i had heard that sometimes fixes the problem, and the issue continues the same as before. this is an extremely common and well talked about complaint in the jeep community, and as far as i'm concerned, it's a safety hazard. for incident date i'm just going to select today, as that's the most recent time it's happened.

Gas sprays out of the tank every time i fill up. no matter how fast i pump, or which gas station i'm at.
10/01/200928000
Starting when the vehicle had approx 30k miles, the handle at the gas station would shut off one to two seconds after gas would come spraying out of the filler neck. different gas stations or handle styles had no effect on the problem. i did discover that if filled very slowly, it would click off before overfilling; however, the problem is progressive and that method is no longer effective. last week (march 21st 2010) i went to add gas and found that the handle would click off instantly when more than 1/4 flow was attempted, even though the gas tank was empty. attempts at removing the gas tank and associated components have found no obstructions or obvious damage; however the malfunction remains.

I own a 2006 jeep rubicon wrangler... every fill up the gas tank overflows spilling at least 2-3 cups worth of gasoline all over my jeep, the ground and sometimes on me. i feel this is not only a saftey hazard but an environmental hazard as well.

Each time i refuel my 2005 jeep wrangler, the fuel splashes out just after the pump auto shuts off. this happens every refuel
07/01/2008
Every single time i fill up the gas tank on my 2006 jeep wrangler tj unlimited, the fuel shoots out of the tank because the nozzle stop must be set to shut off higher than the jeep fuel tank will allow for it to fill. i have even tried to trickle fuel in at the end of the fill up and it still shoots fuel everywhere. this is an every fill up occurrence and not just from time to time.

03/08/2010
2006 jeep wrangler - when filling with fuel at any service station the fuel tank will overfill causing fuel to rush out of the filler neck and onto anyone or anything standing in the way. several times i have been covered in fuel because it would not shut off when full. this is a potential fire hazard and health hazard with fuel being dumped on the ground at service stations. many complaints have been filed and more can be read at jeepforums.com. please do something about this! it is a danger!

Whenever i fill up my 06 jeep wrangler, it always overflows when. this is a waste of gas and hazardous to the environment.
03/01/20066000
Vehicle sprays out gasoline whenever i fill it up. 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon it happens at random fill ups, usually 3 out of 5 times. it only happens when i fill the tank to full. the dealer has attempted to fix this issue a few times already. upon further research, this issue appears to be happening on alot of jeep vehicles.
06/01/2007150001
Gas tank overflows on every fill - no matter which gas station, pump, etc (all over the east coast) the auto shutoff fires only after a cup or more of gas is spilled. this has resulted in me being covered in gasoline repeatedly, not to mention the amount of gas spilled to the ground each time it is filled. (even filling extremely slowly results in a spill.) *tr
03/10/201001
Every time i pump gas it overfills and comes out all over the ground and my jeep and sometimes its even went on me. *tr
02/01/20091
The fuel spits back out when full as i fill the tank up. not just a little, but a lot of gas spills out on me, the ground, and the ground. i have tried many different gas pumps at different gas stations. jeep knows about the issue, but hasn't recalled it yet. they only replace your gas tank with the same one that will still cause the same problem. it is a serious health and environmental issue. *tr
03/09/2010510001
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited. almost every time the vehicle is fueled up, a significant quantity of gasoline is forcefully ejected/sprayed from the filler neck as the pump shuts off. this is not a top-off situation it is on the first and only attempt. this has occurred at multiple stations and multiple pumps at those stations. this has been an ongoing safety and environmental problem. *tr
02/09/2010460001
Fuel spilling out when pumping fuel. have to pump slow and stop to pump fuel. *tr
03/07/2010480001
During fillup, fuel will eject out of the tank opening nearly every time. the gas stations pump will shut off when it detects a full tank, but about 1 second later gasoline will erupt out onto the jeep's body, the filler hose, and sometimes myself. the only time it doesn't occur is when the filling station has the automatic shutoff sensitivity set more sensitive than is normal. *tr
03/01/2010250001
About 50% of the time i fill my jeep's tank it will gush fuel when the pump shuts off. i've tried going to different gas stations and it still happens. none of my other cars do this. as a consequence it spills about a cup of fuel all over the side of my jeep and on the ground. jeep won't do anything about it even though they're aware of it. *tr

This complaint is that i have a 06 jeep wrangler that each time someone fills the gas tank with fuel it overflows. this happens at every gas station that it has ever been filled up at. it is a hazard that fuel spills out over the ground each time that it is filled up. the fuel tank has to be fixed. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). my '06 jeep wrangler overflows with gas every time i fill up now. it began doing this about a month or so ago, and now does it every time i fill up regardless of how slow i try to pump the gas. gas spits out of the filler tube all over the jeep and the ground. several days ago my wife, who was unaware of the problem, drove my jeep and as a kind gesture thought she would fill it up for me. as a result, she ended up getting gas splashed on to her clothes, the jeep, and the surrounding ground. this is not an isolated problem. i have come to learn that many jeep wrangler owners are experiencing the same problem. jeep has identified the problem as being a stuck check ball that is causing the problem. to remedy the situation, they recommend that you buy a new gast tank. however, no changes have been made to the new gas tanks, so it is only a matter of time before you would start to experience the same problems again. unfortunately, most of us are recently out of warranty and jeep is refusing any other help. besides the obvious personal hazards that are associated with this problem, you also face an environmental hazard every time you need to fuel up your vehicle. i sincerely hope that you can help me and tens of thousands of other jeep owners who are experiencing these problems before serious injury or deaths occur from this defect.  When filling up my vehicle at the gas pump, the gasoline would overflow. the gas would pump normally. when the tank filled up, the automatic shut off would click off and gas would stop flowing. about 2 seconds later gas would come spewing out of the neck. this would happen no matter what gas station or pump i used. i took the vehicle to a chrysler dealer and they replaced the entire gas tank. this solved the problem. *tr

When i fill the gas tank on my 06 jeep wrangler unlimited it always overflows. the pump does not sense that the tank is full and the back wash flows out onto the side of the jeep and the ground at my feet. fortunately my jeep hasn't been hit by a cigarette after one of these incidences. *tr
10/28/2008295001
When pumping gas in my 2006 wrangler the pump doesn't cut off and it overflows everytime i fill up. the first couple of times i got gas on my clothes, shoes, the ground, and the jeep. now i stand back and try to listen and manually cut the pump off, but fairly often it still shoots gas back out(about half a gallon if i didn't pay attention like the first time). after doing research, the only solution i can find is replacing the gas tank with another doomed to fail tank. *tr

While filling up my 06 jeep wrangler, once the gas comes up the neck, it sprays all over, sometimes spraying up to 4' away. i have been sprayed with gasoline, and drips all over every gas station i fill up at. this happens every time i fill up, and even if you go slow, or full bore, it will overflow and spill out. *tr

I ran out of gas, i pulled into a gas station, i filled my tank. as my tank became full, i expected the pump to automatically stop, as they are designed to do. instead, i watched fuel spew out of my filler neck, and had to stop the pump myself. i went inside the gas station to tell the attendant that their pump must be faulty. they explained to me that they have never received that complaint before, so i left. the next time i needed fuel, i went to a different gas station, and experienced the same problem. i then went three fill-ups with no issue. on the fourth re-fueling episode, it happened again, at a totally different station. therefore, i believe the problem is in the jeep's filler neck, not the fuel pumps i was using. the consequences of this problem are obvious, it is a fire hazard, it spews gasoline all over the vehicle's paint, and all over your legs and shoes, depending on where you are standing. also, it is an environmental issue. *tr
02/17/2010150001
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited that has a gas tank issue and based on the web blog most owners have the same problem. the problem has to do with the gas tank and filling the car up. the stop value is defected in the gas tank so when you fill up your car gas shots out of the gas tank once when it is full. i have tried numerous gas stations, difference positions and have taken it into chrysler-jeep and the response back that i have gotten is yes we know there is a problem but there is no way to fix it. i would suggest just not filling the tank all the way up. this is a serious issue as the gas shooting out could get on something, ignite and if nothing else it is spilling gas on the cement of gas stations on a daily bases around the country leading to environmental contamination. can you please look into this and get in contact with jeep. thank you *tr

2006 jeep wrangler sport. gas overflows or gushes out every time at the pump when the tank gets full. happens every time and is a safety issue. nobody injured, but it costs me money at the pump. a bunch of other guys i know with wranglers have this same issue. i am convinced that there should be a recall on this to fix the defective tank. *tr

During gas fill ups, gasoline will shoot out of the fill nozzle when the tank reaches full. this causes gasoline to spill to the ground. the amount varies from a dribble to about a cup. slowing the fill rate towards the end of the fill will generally prevent the spillage but is not guaranteed. this is an every fill up occurrence. *tr

Jeep wrangler spews gas and vapor when filling the tank using the automatic shut-off feature of the gas pump. i was sprayed with gasoline in my eyes after a fill up. this is very dangerous situation that can result in bodily injury or fire not to mention the environmental issues this spillage creates. this should be a safety recall and chrysler forced to come up with a fix. *tr

Purchased a 06 jeep unlimited (lj) with the 4.0 engine. when filling up the gas tank, the tank becomes full and gas then spills out the fill tube. this is everytime you fill up the jeep. chrysler says they are aware of the problem but that there is no fix or real concern by them for this problem. my concern is the waste of gas, the environment hazard by spilling gas, the possible damage to my vehicles paint and the potential fire hazard. this has been ongoing since i purchased this jeep in 05-09. i understand that numerous other jeep lj's have this same problem and that it has something to do with a weak vent spring. *tr

Gas tank overfills during fillup...automatic gas shut off fails and gas spills on the ground (about 1 cup or so each instance). this occurs every time, harming the environment and presenting a fire danger. other jeep wrangler owners on jeepforum.com have the same issue. the fault apparently is the roll over check valve, an integral part of the gas tank. so the fix is to replace the tank. but the faulty part is also replaced in this process. *tr

Gas spills, splatters, shoots violently when tank is full. it occurs every time i fill up at any gas station. occurs whether i hand control fillup or whether i rely on auto shut off. hand fillup does seem to reduce the amount of excess gasoline spewing from tank. gas ends up on my paint, plastic, the fueling station ground, and often my clothing and/or shoes. very frustrating, concern for fuel sparks. *tr

2006 jeep wrangler unlimited 4.0 l when fueling this vehicle, fuel spills out of the filler neck every time. this occurs even when the fuel nozzle is not depressed to full volume. fuel can slosh several feet from the filler neck. this is a potential safety hazard for several reasons. i have had fuel spilled onto my skin and nearly into my eyes. there is also significant fire hazard due to the pressurized nature and velocity of the fuel coming up the neck. please investigate, this is a common problem on this make and model. i purchased this jeep in april 2009 and it has occurred every fill. *tr

2006 jeep wrangler spews fuel out the fuel filler neck before the pump cuts off when filling tank. this results in fuel on the side of the vehicle, on the ground, and possibly on the individual filling the tank. it occurs frequently when filling tank, but not 100% of the time. nothing has been done to correct the problem. *tr

While filling up my 2006 jeep wrangler (tj), gas has come shooting out of the inlet for the gas pump nozzle. i am *not* attempting to 'top off' my fuel tank, this occurs in the normal process of filling my tank up. today's incident (12/23/2009) is the third incident in less than two months. previously, i had thought that perhaps it was me exceeding the fill limit of the tank ('topping off') because i was using the 'auto fill' switch on the gas nozzles handle. however, after the second incident in two months i decided to do some research online and have found that this seems to be a complaint with later model jeep vehicles. to this date and to the best of my knowledge, however, chrysler has not issued any recall or warning concerning this safety issue. i am filing this complaint because of the safety hazard involved with the splash back of fuel which can hit the person filling up the tank; and because the splash back covers the rear corner panel of the jeep after it happens, leading to a fire hazard to the vehicle. i have not yet contacted chrysler, but i will be doing that today as well. *tr

When filling the fuel tank on my 06 rubicon unlimited wrangler. before the pump automatically stops pumping the gas will spill out from the filler tube. the amount of fuel spillage can be up to about a quart. this happens every time i try to fill the gas tank. according to the dealer the only fix is to replace the entire fuel tank. this repair would no be covered under warranty. i believe having fuel rush out of the filling nozzle while pumping gas is a very dangerous problem. *tr

When filling the gas tank, the gas continually overflows. it makes no difference if the tank is fueling fast or slow. this is dangerous and if you don't remember to stand back your shoes and clothing are saturated. *tr

Most of the time when filling the fuel tank on my 2006 jeep wrangler the fuel overflows from the tank and onto the ground prior to the pump shutting off. there seems to be a significant risk of fire. this happens at various fuel stations and various types of pumps. it appears that jeep is claiming this is a normal wear item when in fact it isn't. it is a problem with significant risk involved. *tr

When filling up my fuel tank normally and not topping it off, fuel sprays out of the filler neck before the pump can shut off. this happens every time i fill the tank spilling gas on myself and on the ground. there is no way to avoid it unless i do not fill the tank up. i took the jeep to the dealership and they say i need a new fuel tank. my jeep is out of warranty but there are many other people with this same problem indicating that it's a faulty rollover valve yet chrysler denies that it's a defective part. *tr

When filling up the gas tank, the tank will overflow. it happens regularly, approximately 1 in every 5 fills. it occurs at different filling stations using different pumps. many jeep owners have reported this problem. it is a safety concern and the defective component should be recalled. *tr

Just purchased a 2006 jeep wrangler sport. all stock. when fueling the vehicle, once the fuel is almost full or to the point of full, the fuel shoots out of the fuel inlet. also, it does not trip the fuel shut off on the dispenser quick enough.

I own a 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited. every time i fill up the tank the gas overflows onto the ground as the pump shuts off. apparently this is a common problem associated with jeep wranglers and chrysler has yet to do anything about it.

When filling the gas tank full, the gas overflows from the gas tank fill site. this spews gasonline (about 1-2 cups of fuel) all over the side of the jeep and outside of the vehicle. several times the gas has sprayed on to me as well as pump attendants. the gasoline spillage is an extremely dangerous problem that occurs each time the gas tank is filled.

When filling fuel tank to full capacity, pumps spills fuel out of tank filler tube. possible roll over valve sticking causing fuel tank to overfill spilling fuel outside of vehicle because the pump don't stop when the tank is full. *dt

Since september 2009,every time i fill up my 2006 jeep wrangler,at least 10 to 12oz spill out before the auto shutoff on the nozzle is engaged. i believe that this could be very dangerous. *tr

Gas splashes out of the gas tank on every fill up. some times its a significant amount. this cannot be controlled by speed of fueling. i am afraid of a fire caused by fuel every where. *tr
