ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
PE07027CHRYSLER GROUP LLC05/29/200708/02/2007ENGINE STALLING & ELECTRIC POWER LOSS07V291000
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) is lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal is restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. this investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.

I bought the jeep new in february/march of 2007. in december 2009, at approximately 45k miles, i heard a loud knocking noise that sounded like it was coming from the bottom end of the engine. took the jeep to my regular oil change center and they confirmed the knocking sound. i then took the jeep to local dealer who informed me that it was spun bearings and there was metal shavings in the oil pan. they put in a new motor (chrysler offered some assistance after much complaining and arguing on my side, but it still cost me $1,500 as it as out of warranty). now, in august 2012, at a total of 90k miles (approximately 45k on the new motor), the bearings are spun again. this will be the 3rd motor in this jeep. i have the receipts from my regular oil change center showing that i have regularly changed the oil. the service department at the dealer says they are not aware of any other ppl having this issue. however, internet research shows significant numbers of ppl with 2007 jeep wranglers that are having spun bearings at around 45k miles. jeep should be replacing these motors at no cost to the consumer as this appears to be a design defect. *tr

As driving on highway engine started to make clicking noise, called local jeep dealership and brought into shop no engine lights or oil lights on, service preson told me that oil was 5 quarts low in a 6 quart engine and the engine bearings were stripped need new engine and life time powertrain warranty will not cover engine. when i ask service preson why this happen he could not and would not give straight answer simple said aftermarket oil filter, and i found no leaks then asked if it was the oil filter he said no i'm not telling you it was the oil filter! then i said if it is not the oil filter nor you found no leaks where did the other 5 quarts of oil disapear to. it must be a deffected engine. i just change the oil 2000 miles ago! in all service department will not tell me why the engine failed or how it happen niether will chrysler.

Intermittent problem occuring almost exclusively at highway speeds. while driving at highway speeds suddenly, without warning, the vehicle shuts off. all warning lights on the dash board appear, engine completely shuts off which leads to power steering failure and loss of safe control of the vehicle. while the engine shut off is intermittent and does not last for more than a few seconds before it turns back on without use of the key or any other means of manually restarting the vehicle, it is highly unsafe and can lead to severe injury or death. we have noted this issue occuring approximately 1-2 times per month. we finally took the vehicle to the dealership to service and locate the issue with the vehicle on october 20, 2011. the dealership stated they could not find any issues with the vehicle, with the exception of unusally high oil consumption. the dealership advised we do an oil consumption test which will be completed in 3000 miles or 3 months.

My vehicle spills fuel out of the filler area every time i fill up. the fuel gets on me, the vehicle, and the ground. i have contacted chrysler about the matter, and they advise me because i am outside the time frame for their tsb, any repairs would have to be paid by me. after thoroughly researching the matter, it seems this is a wide spread concern. chrysler has addressed the issue for some, but not others because we're outside the window. please see your code #pe10032. also, my vehicle consumes or burns oil at the rate of one quart per 1000 miles. again, research shows this is another wide spread matter attributed to faulty motor construction of some 2007/2008 engines. owners who have had the repair done under warranty found that on three pistons, ring gaps where in a line, the other three where close, all six oil expander rings and piston rods where installed upside down. chrysler will address the matter only if you are still under warranty. i do not understand why the cost should be bared by the consumer when both matters are so common and wide spread as to indicate design flaws in the product. why should i pay for their inability to build a component correctly?

Vehicle continues to lose power while in motion. as a result there is a loss of power breaking as well as steering. chrysler has investigated the problem several times including an opportunity for one last fix under the lemon law statute in florida. yet the condition persists. chrysler has determined that they will only agree to settle the outstanding issue with this dangerous condition if they are provided with yet another opportunity to inspect the vehicle. chrysler of auburn hills has been notified of this unsafe condition and has responded with customer relations representative richard wilcox 407-826-7035 who advised of the additional inspection required before they will consider settling this matter. it does not seem that chrysler is at all concerned with the obvious potential for bodily harm that may occur as a result of the incidents of power loss and the resultant control problems with the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle would randomly stall and lose power steering and braking ability. the failure has occurred three times within the past year. the vehicle was able to be restarted immediately afterwards; therefore, the contact never took the vehicle to the dealer. after the most recent failure, she was unable to immediately restart the engine until 30 minutes later. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they reprogrammed the power module. the failure recurred less than a week later while driving 65 mph. once more, the vehicle took 30 minutes to restart. the vehicle is currently at the dealer being repaired. the contact believes that the manufacturer needs to develop a new repair for this failure. the failure mileage was 12,860.

2007 jeep wrangler problems with engine stalling. consumer states that in order to restart the vehicle it must be in neutral before turning the ignition switch. consumer states she would like the vehicle replaced. *kb the seat belt retractor on the drivers side failed within weeks of owning the vehicle, there was a constant rattling noise coming from the pillar area, the drivers door did not close properly. the technician used a mallet or hammer to align the door striker. the consumer had to slam the door in order for it to close properly, even though there was no certainty the door was really closed. there was a possibility that the striker on the door could collapse while the vehicle was in motion causing the door to open. the vehicle also made a rattling noise while accelerating. *jb
