Defect SummaryChrysler is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2010 jeep wrangler left and right hand drive passenger vehicles manufactured from may 15, 2006 through april 22, 2010. there may be contact between the right and left front inner fender liners and the right front and left rear brake tubes which could cause wear of the tubes causing a brake fluid leak.
Consequence SummaryA brake fluid leak can cause partial loss of service brakes at the affected wheel increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence SummaryProlonged brake tube contact could wear a hole in the tube and cause a partial brake system loss. this could cause a crash without warning.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a revised brake tube clip to retain the tubes, inspect the brake tubes for damage due to potential contact with the steering intermediate shaft, and replace the brake tubes if necessary. the recall began on june 30, 2008. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 The 2007 jeep wrangler stalled, lost power brakes, lost power steering. tried to restart the vehicle and would not turn over. we noticed flames shooting up outside the passenger side of the vehicle. all 4 of us climbed out the driver side door. i tried to open the hood and flames came bursting out. within 2 minutes the whole vehicle engulfed in flames. the flames were coming from underneath the engine. it took the fire department nearly 2 hours to extinguish the flames. the vehicle was a total loss.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving at approximately 20 mph the brake light illuminated on the instrument panel and the brake pedal dropped to the floor board. the contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and applied brake fluid to the brake system. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer. the technician stated there was a hole in the brake tube due to the steering shaft rubbing on the tube and the brake line would have to be replaced. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v202000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) that may be related to the failure. the manufacturer stated the vin was not included in the recall. also the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. the technicians stated the clock spring had fractured and would have to be replaced. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v528000 (air bags:frontal) that may be related to the failure. the manufacturer stated the vin was not included. the vehicle brake line was repaired. the clock spring was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000. ds

 Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated while driving the vehicle 30 mph it pulled excessively to the right. the contact tried to turn the steering wheel back to the left and it responded as if the power steering failed. the contact applied the brakes in order to stop the vehicle and there was no response. the emergency brake also failed when it was engaged. the failure caused the contact to crash into a viaduct. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and inspected by the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated nothing was wrong with the vehicle. the vehicle was deemed destroyed. the failure and current mileage was 6,000. rvk

 Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact they were driving the vehicle at 30 mph when the vehicle pulled strong to the right. the contact tried to turn the steering wheel back to the left and it felt like the power steering went out on the vehicle. the contact then tried to stop the vehicle and there was no response from the brakes and the emergency brake did not work as well. this failure caused the contact to run the vehicle into a via duct. the vehicle was towed to a repair shop and inspected by the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated nothing was wrong with the vehicle. the vehicle had been ruled destroyed. the failure mileage and current mileages were 6,000.rl

 Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the front tire on the driver side is rubbing through the brake line .this will occur only when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left. the dealer was informed about the failure and they stated that the brake line needs to be replaced and relocated. they also stated that if its not replaced then the brake fluid will leak out . the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 37000 and the current mileage was 42000.cv

 Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving at speeds of 20 mph and depressing the brakes while approaching a stop light, the brakes would not engage. the vehicle proceeded to crash into another vehicle. there were no injuries and there was minor body damage to the vehicle. a police report was filed accordingly. the vehicle was taken to a local brake shop. there were no repairs made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were approximately 18,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving up a steep hill at approximately 5 mph, the contact continuously applied pressure to the brake pedal. the pedal would vibrate and the vehicle would not slow down. after several attempts, the contact depressed the brake pedal down to the floor in order to stop the vehicle. no warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to a malfunction of the wiring in the abs. the vehicle was repaired. on a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an identical failure and they were unable to detect the malfunction. the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 12,300.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that she experienced a loss of power in her vehicle. she also noticed that there was a loss of power steering and brake accessibility. while driving 75 mph, the contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed. the dealer kept the vehicle for approximately three weeks and drove it for 300 miles; however, they could not find any failures with the vehicle. the contact was informed that there were two recalls on her vehicle, which were corrected by the dealer. nhtsa campaign id number 07v291000 (electrical system) was most closely related to the recent failure. the dealer offered the contact another vehicle on their lot. the current mileage was 10,513 and failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact drove into a mud puddle and then across a grass field. three days later, he took the vehicle to the car wash and the check engine light illuminated. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they found a failure at the brake purge tank, which ripped and caused the brake line to pull down. the dealer informed the manufacturer that the cause of the failure was due to reckless driving. therefore, the manufacturer stated that the warranty does not cover aggressive driving, only defected parts. the contact feels that his vehicle was designed to be driven on rough terrain; therefore, the brake purge tank is defective. the current and failure mileages were 10,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving 30 mph, the stopping distance increased when the brakes were applied. the contact stated that the failure also occurred the following day while driving 40 mph. the road conditions were clear. he further stated that while driving 2 mph, the vehicle veered to the right. the dealer adjusted the tire pressure. in addition, there was a five second delay when he started the vehicle. the contact stated that the air conditioner and radio worked intermittently. the dealer was unable to duplicate any of the failures. the failure mileage was 900 and current mileage was 1,702.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the vehicle fails to accelerate and shuts off after coming to a complete stop. the ignition switch must be turned off in order to restart the engine. he stated that the vehicle stalled five times within the last ten days. the dealer has reprogrammed the computer at least twice. also, when making a right turn, the anti-skid control activates and the brakes are applied. the anti-skid control light illuminates and then dims after the turn is made. the dealers verified with a road test that the anti-skid does activate at approximately 25-35 mph, but no repairs have been made. the contact was unsure of the component names regarding the reprogramming and anti-skid failures. the current mileage was 4,200 and failure mileage was 3,300.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle coasted and restarted on its own. the vehicle failed again while pulling into the driveway. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. on july 10, 2007, the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa recall number 07v291000 (electrical system). the vehicle has not stalled since the repair, but continues to hesitate as if it will stall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice because the air conditioning system failed. on august 27, 2007, the contact noticed that the abs and anti-skid lights were illuminated. the vehicle is currently at the dealer for the a/c system. the current mileage was 18,000 and failure mileage was 2,384.

 2007 jeep wrangler with recall for brake failure. consumer states that he finally received a recall for the faulty brakes. he would like reimbursement for the brake repair since his was fixed before the recall was sent out. *kb the consumer stated the problem occurred while he was in 4-wheel drive, low range over the top of a small rise. when he attempted to brake, nothing happened, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the small down slope caused the consumer to speed up and hit a low set of rocks and hard dirt. the rear differential cover was leaking. the vehicle had extensive damage to the front axle and surrounding parts. recall # 07v434000 no police report mentioned. *jb

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact went to the dealer to have the repair performed for recall # 06v493000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti-lock:control unit/module ). the dealer stated that they could not perform the recall repair, but failed to offer an explanation. the current and failure mileages were 3,100. the consumer complained of the check engine light illuminating. the dealer replaced the fuel tank and purged the control valve. the check engine light illuminated again and they replaced the fuel canister which was leaking. the third time, the dealer replaced the fuel filler neck and tube. updated 05/11/10.*jb
