In its july 29, 2011 response to odi's may 27, 2011 information request letter, chrysler provided 153 my 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 odi vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (abl) due to a faulty clockspring (cs) wiring circuit.the right hand drive (rhd) vehicles, which were first produced in my 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).the my2007 left hand drive (lhd) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 lhd reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the my 2008 lhd vehicles.odi did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the cs circuit failure.since may 27, 2011, odi has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing.in addition, and for comparative purposes, chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the my2006 and my2009-2010 wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the rhd subject vehicles. chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of rhd wrangler cs failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by us postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature cs failure.chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated my2007 lhd rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design cs.the new design cs incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system).on november 1, 2011, chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all my 2008-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles (11v528).the estimated 5,334 rhd wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 my 2008 rhd wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 my 2009-2012 rhd wrangler vehicles that chrysler determined potentially have a similar cs concern as the my 2008 rhd vehicles.chrysler intends to replace the existing cs with a yet-to-be-produced improved cs assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.owner notice is scheduled to begin in november, 2011.chrysler also informed odi that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for my2007 lhd wrangler which will extend the cs warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.accordingly the investigation is closed.

The airbag light turns on and off, indicating that there is an intermittent malfunction with the airbag system. the problem is a simple part - the clock spring in the steering that connects the airbag to the control module. if the system malfunctions before or during a crash, the airbag will not deploy, and could cause serious injury or death. i am shocked that this safety issue is not being recognized or covered by jeep!

Airbag light stays on. mechanic says the clock spring is faulty. this is a problem with many jeep owners that i know. this is a safety hazard, because the airbag may not deploy in a collision.

The airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around.

Air bag light activated with chime for several cycles. now air bag light stays on. sometimes flickers / flashes, but mostly stays lit. this was on smooth pavement at highway speed. 'can't understand why the system failed or why the local dealer wants so much to repair an obvious safety item that shouldn't have gone bad. *tr

The airbag light in my 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) has begun going off and chiming while driving at least one time every minute. this light indicates that something is wrong with the airbag and the problem has been diagnosed as a clock spring issue. this has been a recurring issue with 2008 jks (lhd), and potentially can lead to airbag failure in the case of a crash. chrysler has refused to address this issue with 2008 lhd wranglers even though it is a serious safety concern.

The horn no longer works and per the dealer, it is the clockspring. this cost about $500 to replace. the same make and model of the previous year had a recall but they have not recalled the 08 which apparently has the same problem. *tr

My airbag light came on while driving at 40mph. wolfchase jeep refused to warranty item. i had to pay for trouble shooting, but chrysler would not warranty even though there is an obvious problem. there is already a recall for r/h drive and 07 model yeal wranglers.

The airbag light began coming on & going off on sat 11/17/2012. i tried calling the dealership they were closed. called on mon. 11/19/12. took jeep in mon afternoon. was told today that i would have to pay for it because it had already been replaced. i do not think that i should have to pay for this as it was a recall and had happened again. there must be something wrong or it would not go out in the first place would appreciate some help from someone. i am so upset with this jeep that i will probably never buy another one and will suggest that no one else buy one either. i have had numerous other problems with this jeep.

Air bag light came on during driving. took it to the dealer where they told me the clock spring needed to be replaced for $525.00. after researching the issue i discovered that jeep has recalled the right hand drive clock springs for 2007-2012 but not on the left hand drive jeeps. they are the same part and a recall should be issued across the fleet. this is a safety issue as it can cause the air bag to deploy on its own, or not deploy in an accident. *tr

My airbag light came on and off in roughly 1-3 min. intervals. brought it in for service and it is not covered under warranty. i read many jeep forums and have found that the clockspring is failing on many many jeeps and could cause premature detonation of airbag cause fatal accidents or not detonating when really needed. i was astonished that jeep will not take care of this. i will end up spending $200-$350 myself just to feel safe in my own car. this needs to be addressed by jeep. if it becomes a recall, i will be seeking my money back.  The clockspring assembly in the steering column fails causing one or more open circuits to the driver's air bag. service bulletin exists for factory replacement of the 2007 postal version, chrysler extended coverage for all of 2007 model year wranglers. the problem also exists in the 2008 model year. i was able to get the clockspring replaced for a reduced cost 'co-pay' thru chrysler customer service but the lack of a service bulletin covering the 2008 model year made resolution of the problem an unusual process. most consumers would incur an expensive repair for a known problem. worse, the problem was misdiagnosed by the service computer and erroneously indicated the air bag was defective. *tr

On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. *tr

Airbag warning light in instrument panel consistently goes off during irregular speed, steering wheel operation, and temperature. there is no pattern that correlates with the timing of the airbag warning light. when it first started, it would only come during at brief moments and turn off again. now, april, it turns off after vehicle start (like normal operation), comes back on immediately, and only briefly does it turn off at random times. the majority of the time the warning light fluctuates is during steering wheel turning. turning to one particular side does not alter the light more than the other. sometimes hard bumps in the road or off-road scenarios will change the light too. knowing very well this could be the clockspring, no other lights or functions involved with this device confirm this is the problem. the horn works at all turning angles, esp and abs all function normally. there are also no dtc codes from the computer. all visible electrical plugs in the cabin and behind dash have been unplugged, cleaned from debris and reconnected. i find the current recall for only the 2007s and right hand drive 2008s very frustrating! the assumption that only rhds will have their windows down more on dirt roads might be factual; however, there are numerous of 2008 jeep wrangler owners that use their vehicle for work, or off-road scenarios that will easily bypass the rhd assumption. this is a very scary problem to have. i do no feel safe that any accident i have the airbags will deploy properly. the faith of my vehicle saving my life is completely lost.

The warranty has been extended to 150,000 miles on the 2007 wranglers, but not on the 2008 wranglers. they are the same part number, why was chrysler not forced to extend the warranty on 2008's? the cockspring failure causes the airbag to not deploy.

The air bag clockspring in my 2008 rhd jeep wrangler has failed and been replaced twice at my expense. the first was 09/13/10 @ 39693 miles and again 12/15/11 @ 69120 miles. i found on your site that there was a recall in progress, l37 for 2008 - 2012 rhd jeep wranglers. i called chrysler and was told my vin was not covered under this recall. my concern is: how many other rhd jeep wranglers are there out there that have or may experience the same problem but are not included in the recall? it appears obvious that the recall should be expanded. i have receipts for these repairs if needed and feel free to contact me for more info.

I own a jeep tour company and this is the third clockspring i have had to replace in two different jeeps. while traveling at 5mph or under the airbag light illuminated. after having the dealer check it out i was advised it was a clockspring issue. i replaced this one on my own. they charge $1450 just to check what part, then $280 for the part. this has been done at tto seperate local dealer ships. i have saved two clocksprings, one done from a 2007 jeep and one from this 2008.

The airbag-warning-light in the dashboard of my jeep wrangler x comes on and stays on, including making the peeping warning sound ever so often. the dealer diagnosed it as the clock-spring in the steering wheel (an approx. $400+ repair). this is not only an extremely expensive repair, but more importantly a major safety issue and concern, especially for a just over 3 year young car, just out of warranty. the airbag(s) will not deploy in case of an accident as long as the airbag-warning-light in the dashboard is on. i have read that a lot of jeep owners, as well as others, are having the same problem. this should definitely be a recall, since the clock-spring should not be defective after just 3 years. this seems like a faulty part, which should be replaced at manufactures expense.

The airbag light stays on occasionally making a warning bell. i have no idea if the airbag is functional. had it to the dealer once but since i work in this vehicle i could not leave it so they could not determine if it is the clockspring or an airbag module. the fuel inlet also spews gas when filling up the gas tank. there has been a recall on the fuel issue, but i have had parts on order for eight months and they are still on backorder.

Dodge dealership has inspected my jeep for an airbag warning light illuminated. i have an extended warranty from millennium and the will not cover the repair. the problem has been diagnosed as a faulty clock spring. this is a lhd vehicle. the recall id 94030 is for the rhd jeep. if left hand drive jeeps are having the same problems, how can this just be on the right hand drive only? recall id # 94030 - air bags:frontal component air bags:frontal model affected wrangler potential units affected 5437 recall date: nov 02, 2011 model affected: 2008 jeep wrangler summary: chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 right hand drive (rhd) jeep wrangler vehicles manufactured from february 1, 2007, through october 10, 2011. some vehicles may be equipped with driver's airbag clockspring assemblies that could experience a compromised airbag circuit resulting in an airbag lamp illumination, which indicates that the airbag may not deploy. consequences: a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injuries. remedy: chrysler will notify owners and remedy the vehicles as necessary free of charge. chrysler will mail to owners an interim notification during march 2012. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. potential units affected: 5437. *tr
