| I purchased 2002 kia spectra in 11/ 2004 with 14,000 miles on it. ( i have all maintenance work documented) . in 2006 i noticed my car would get sluggish and hesitate whenever i would accelerate.it didnt happen all the time. but i did take it in for a tune-up and transmission flush and fill. this was in 10/2006 and i only had 26,000 miles on it .but this problem persisted and it worsened to a point that it took a while before it would shift gears. i would have to hold my foot on the gas pedal and pump it a few times. i took it to a dealer in january 2008 and explained to them what was happening and it was making loud noises. they said the transmission was defective and it needed to be replaced.so i replaced the transmission.the cost was $1,800.00 they also stated the transmission had been replaced in this car once before. now this is the second transmission and my car only has 31,442 miles on it. so my car was now running ok at first but it still pauses and jerks when im driving. this happens with my foot on the gas pedal no matter what speed im driving at. it also wont go in reverse when i shift to the reverse gear. this began to happen in january 2012 and with only 50159 miles on it. again i took it to a local kia dealership and the technician found that the transmission has internal failures, the cost to replace the transmission is $1520.00 installed. | |||

| Tl-the contact owns a 2002 kia spectra. the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitated to accelerate from a stop and would exhibit loud noises when driving above 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the transmission was replaced. approximately four years later, the contact stated that the vehicle would not reverse when shifted into reverse. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was again advised to replace the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 31,432. kmj | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle made a loud grinding noise while driving 20 mph. the check engine light illuminated constantly and on several occasions the transmission would not release from the park position. the vehicle was taken to service dealers 4 times; where they determined the transmission was defective. on the first visit, part of the transmission was repaired. the vehicle was taken to a different service dealer for the second visit where the entire transmission was replaced. on the third and fourth visits, the service dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. | |||

| (1)brakes feel insufficient until pressed very hard (2) 2 accidents where i as the driver rear ended drivers (3) complaint was made to sholz kia when i went to have orvr recall taken care of and they stated the brakes were normal for the model. also: (1)occasionally when vehicle transmission is put in reverse (2) the car drives forward (3) i called sholz kia and chrysler-plymouth-kia or paramus and was not taken seriously. *jb | |||

| Car was 4 weeks old when engine light came on for the first time - called dealer said it was due to gas tank cap. made appt w/dealer - next day engine light off - following week 6/18/02 engine light came on again it went off before dealer appt. engine light goes off and on randomly. finally engine light remains on at all times. on july 10 take to dealer keep car over night replaced transmission control module. next day july 11 having traveled 125 miles engine light comes on - at highway speeds gears did not shift properly at times unable to acclerate past 50 mph - engine revved locked in wrong gears for speed traveled - had to pull over to shoulder several times to try and get gears working right. with exception of a few hours engine light remained on . so far dealer finds nothing wrong as engine light want off mere minutes before my scheduled appointment. also trunk release on hatchback only works 1/3 of the time the rest of the time it opens half way and you must use key | |||
| On two occassions, the vehicle has dropped out of gear while being driven highway speeds. owner pulled over and gears failed to respond as the shift lever was moved from different positions except first gear. dealership is going to replace the transmission for the second time. please describe details. | |||

| I have owned my 2002 spectra since nov. 2001. when i go to start the car up in the mornings the car will stall out and then when i go to re-start the car it will finally start the vehicle. i have taken it to the shop to have them look at the problem but to no avail the problem has not been fixed. they have stated to me that nothing is wrong with my vehicle. i have had to have my car in the shop over 7 times for numerous problems; the struts had to be replaced, the recall on the gas line, the check engine light coming on and one of the spark plugs had blown out of it.*ak | |||
