Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the states of connecticut, district of columbia, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, kentucky, massachusetts, maryland, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, wisconsin, and west virginia. movement of the fuel lines causes the nylon fuel line jumper to chafe against the floor pan. this wear can cause a pin hole in the fuel line resulting in fuel leakage.
Consequence SummaryThis fuel leakage results in dampness and fuel odor, and if an ignition source was present, a fire could result.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a plastic convolute covering around the fuel lines. if the lines show a leak, the lines will be replaced first.
NotesOwner notification is expected to begin october 27, 1997. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

 The fuel line assembly chaffed through. this problem was supposed to have been fixed with nhtsa campaign id 97v159000. ford doesn't want to know anything, says it was fixed in 1999 on this car. i have the part and it is worn thru from chaffing the floor pan just like the recall said. fuel leaked out under pressure and i'm lucky no fire developed. i feel this recall was either not done or not done properly, there was not chaff material on the lines as mentioned in the recall.

 Your site says there are 3 recalls on my car but ford says there are none on my car but i know theres at least one becaus i had it fixed bye them (the fule line recall i had fixed bye them ) thay clame the outher 2 recalls dont appliy to my car is this true or are thay hidding something or just dont want to pay to fix the recall please let me know thank you

 Received recall notice (#97v159000) & called dealer & given a date. took vehicle, after arriving at dealership, was informed that no parts available for repairs. had to call another dealership that had the parts. *ak

 Tl*- the contact stated that on march 14, 2007 she began to smell fumes in the 1993 mercury cougar. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who discovered that there was recall 97v159000 concerning the fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings on this particular year, make and model, but the contacts vehicle was not included. *ak the consumer has provided an invoice for repair. updated 05/04/07*tr

 Dt: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall 97v159000 concerning the fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings. the contact had recall repairs performed in december 1997. the vehicle started experiencing the same problems as indicated in the recall. she had the vehicle repaired by a local service dealer. since recall repairs had already been performed the manufacturer could not offer any additional assistance. *ak updayed 11/29/2005 - *nm
