Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles originally sold or currently registered in connecticut, delaware, district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, kansas, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virgnia, and wisconsin. the rear lower subframe mount plate nut can experience stress corrosion cracking if subjected to long term exposure to road salts. this can result in fracture and loss of the structural integrity of the subframe mount attachment. detachment of the body mounts at the rear corners of the subframe, which supports the engine and transmission, allows the rear corners of the subframe to drop.
Consequence SummaryIf both rear corners drop, steering would become suddenly very difficult, affecting vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install subframe rear mount bolts, reinforcement plates, and plate nuts.
NotesNote:this recall campaign supercedes recall campaign 93v-106.owner notification is expected to begin january 18, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

Defect SummaryVehicle description: taurus and sables built from 10-14-85 through 8-19-88, and lincoln continentals built from 11-4-87 through 9-30-88 (except 1989 - 1991 2.5l taurus and 1989 - 1992 sho). the affected cars were originally sold or currently registered in the following states: connecticut, illinois, indiana, maine, massachusetts, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, and wisconsin. the body mounts at the rear corners of the subframe, which supports the engine and transmission, may become detached due to corrosion of the subframe mount retaining plate. this would allow the rear corners of the subframe to drop.
Consequence SummaryIf one of the rear corners drops, only minor indications of a malfunction such as a clunking noise or slight change in steering wheel alignment are noticeable. however, if both rear corners of the subframe drop, steering becomes very difficult, which could adversely affect vehicle control and possibly result in an accident.
Corrective SummaryInstall a corrosion-resistant reinforcing plate and a new bolt on both rear subframe mounts. this recall campaign has been superseded by recall 98v-323.
NotesThis recall campaign has been superseded by recall 98v-323.

Owner spends an exhorbitant amount of money to keep freon in the vehicle. service technicians stated that the poor design of snap fit lines using o rings with the air conditioning system causes the a/c system to leak in enough places to cause loss of freon into the atmosphere. other manufacturers use threaded connections.
Paint on hood, trunk lid and roof has discolored severly.

Around jan 20, 1999 i received a recall notice from ford pertaining to the replacement of the sub frame retaining bolts. work was done at heritage motors in syracuse on 1/29/99. heritage notified me at the time that my front motor mounts were broken and recommended they be replaced. because of convenience i took the car to azria repair service. while replacing the motor mounts mr azria observed that only the two rear sub frame bolts had been replaced by heritage. he showed me that one of the front bolts was in fact already broken and the other front bolt was in dangerous condition. he explained that the motor mounts could not be replaced without drilling or cutting access holes into the frame in order to remove the rust-frozen nuts and bolts holding the sub frame in place. he showed me how removal or at least loosening of the sub frame was necessary to replace the mounts. the inaccessible and frozen retaining bolts made his work unnecessarily time consuming and costly. he advised me that the car could not be driven safely and i therefore authorized him to replace the two remaining bolts as well as the motor mounts. my contention is that heritage should have replaced all the bolts (front and rear) as part of the safety recall since all the bolts were known to be in dangerous condition and posed a hazard to the vehicle. i do not feel that i should have to pay for parts and labor pertaining to those items which were known by ford to be defective and posed a safety hazard to the vehicle. i am retaining the original parts in case anyone wishes to examine their condition. my bill from azria service was $575.41
