Consequence SummaryIf this solution is exposed to an ignition source under certain specific circumstances, it can result in a vehicle fire.

Defect SummaryNewmar is recalling 2,578 motorhomes equipped with axles that include bosch zops or zoht pin slide hydraulic disc brakes. when combined with occasional or seasonal vehicle operation may experience calipers sticking in the applied position. this can result in abnormal heat generation at the wheel end causing brake drag. the driver would normally have warning of the brake drag if undetected by the driver.
Consequence SummaryThe driver would normally detect the brake drag but if undetected the temperature increase at the wheel end can eventually lead to soft pedal conditions due to brake fluid boil, and possible extended stopping distance increasing the risk of a crash.

Defect SummaryCertain motor home chassis built on freightliner vcl or xc chassis and equipped with zf model 8018 steering gears, these gears may have been assembled with the incorrect recirculating ball spacer. this could potentially allow the recirculating balls to escape from the recirculating ball circuit resulting in a loss of steering.
Consequence SummaryThe operator may notice higher required steering wheel inputs, or the need for more steering wheel adjustments while driving in a straight line in combination with metallic cracking noises prior to a loss of steering. loss of steering could result in a vehicle crash.

 Tl. the contact owns a 2004 newmar mountain aire on a w22 workhorse chassis. the contact stated while driving 60 mph the abs light came on and the brakes began to malfunction causing the vehicle to have shorter stopping distance. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the brakes and they informed the contact to take the vehicle to a local dealer. the replaced the brakes, calipers, and rotors under the service brakes, hydraulic recall ( 09v217000). after the dealer repaired the vehicle the abs light came o. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer to have the vehicle diagnose. the dealer inform the contact the abs sensor malfunctioned and needs to be replaced. the dealer replaced the abs sensors but was unaware that the repair was not apart of the recall. the contact stated the abs sensor should be apart of the service brakes, hydraulic recall since the abs sensor is apart of the braking system. the failure mileage was 20,242. jo

 Tl*the contact owns a 2004 newmar mountain aire rv. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for routine inspection and was informed that the brake rotors, calipers, and hubs failed abnormally and needed to be replaced. a representative stated that the vehicle's production year was excluded from the recall; therefore, they would not assume any responsibility. as of march 11, 2009, the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 29862. updated 3/25/09 *cn all 4 rotors had heat cracks and the front clear hub indicators were white caused by heat. the brakes were not releasing as designed. updated 03/26/09. *jb

 Tl* the contact owns a 2004 newmar mountain aire rv. the contact had taken the vehicle to an authorized dealer for a routine maintenance. the technician observed during the inspection that all four rotors exhibited cracks. the rotors were replaced. the brakes locked up causing the vehicle to smoke which remained stationary so that it could cool down. the failure occurred six months after the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and recommended that force be applied to the brakes with a screwdriver. additionally, photographs of the defective rotors were sent to the manufacturer. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on a second occasion. the technician was unable to determine the cause of failure, and the excessively heated front brakes were replaced. the manufacturer reimbursed the contact for the second repair. the failure mileage was 20,000. the current mileage was 43,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2004 newmar mountain aire, model number 3778. when the contact took her vehicle in for scheduled maintenance, the dealer stated that all four rotors were cracked on the outside. the dealer stated that the failures were caused by heat. the technician stated that they have never seen rotor failure of this magnitude and could be due to a manufacturer design flaw. the manufacturer stated that the failure could have been caused from her husband's driving. the contact stated that was impossible because there would have been more damage to the components. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage was 32,600 and failure mileage was 31,703. the consumer provided photos of the defect. updated 09/18/07 *tr

 Failure of workhorse custom chassis hydro max (redundant brake system) due to blown brake light fuse. the power assist for the braking system is run off the power steering pump and should you lose the serpentine belt or the engine shuts down there is a redundant electric motor to provide power assist tot the brakes. but, should you lose both you have no brakes per si on a 26,000 motor home. *tr
