Defect SummaryThe abs hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
Consequence SummaryIf this condition occurs, the abs function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Corrective SummaryDealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. also the warranty on all abs components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). owners will also be reimbursed for previous abs component repair costs.

 Tl* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. the contact received notification of a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 96v099000 (component: service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) and had repairs performed by the dealer. following repairs, the anti lock braking system and brake warning lights remained illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer advised the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump motor assembly would need to be replaced. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. the approximate failure and current mileages were 138,000.

 Dt: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall 96v099000 involving the anti lock brakes. the vehicle was repaired accordingly to the recall. he felt though the recall repairs have not corrected the problem because the vehicle continued to have anti lock brake problems. . there have been no further repairs due to the expense.

 The brakes were repaired under recall# 96v099000 in august 2001. the brakes were intermittent after the repair and now the brakes are not operating at all. the dealer will only do the repairs at the owner's expense because the brakes are out of warranty. *ak the dual function pressure switch repaired the power to the pump. the accumulator was needed for it to maintain the correct pressure. the dealer did not complete the recall. no repairs were found in the abs wiring. *scc *jb

 On 8/19/02 i took my plymouth voyager to normandin chrysler dealership. after 3 attempts, and close to $900.00, my brakes have continued to fail. some of the parts are factory recalls, but they say that the booster pressure transducer continues to fail. i would like some help and/or advise on what to do. i do not want to take my vehicle back, neither would i like it to be towed for the third time at my insurances expense. thank you, steve gomez. *ak

 Abs brakes control unit replaced in september 94/in october, 96, and abs module changed in july, 94. in addition, serviced transmission due to problems/a/c problems in august 94, and battery problems due to electrical short, replaced battery and repaired electrical system in februry, 95. power steering problems, repairwork done in march, 95. engine problems occurred, repairwork done to rocker shaft/push rods and oil filter in march 95. finally, in may 95 starter burned out and replaced/in july, 95/emergency light became defective and reset/recall jun. 96, liftgate latch replaced/december 97, seat belt repaired/ apr, 97 reset maintenance light and speedometer/ may, 97 belt drive problems and tensioner problems also exit. dealer aware of the problems and problems go on. repairwork at owner's expense with extended coverage on some. provide further information. *ak

 Around 4/30/04 you sent us a vehicle owner's questionnaire. we filled out the forms and sent them back to you, but have not had a response back. the brake actuator piston & the pump-motor assembly have a lifetime coverage, but chrysler want us to pay for other parts not necessary to get more money from us. we believe if these two parts are replaced the brakes will work fine. big a brakes agree with us, but we have not been able to get chrysler to fix the brake problem. we would like a response from you so we know where we stand on this situation.*ak

 Upon receiving recall 91v170000 for brake pedal failure car was already in shop for abs problems. when trying to press brake pedal, it would not move, it just stuck. this problem has happened several times on september 28, 2000. on august 30, 2000 put drums and pads, still didn't fix problem. consumer was driving and making a turn, and abs light and brake light came on at the same time, indicating no brakes. consumer almost went over an embankment. *ak

 I have had my abs system replaced 3 times. this time the pedal does not come up properly to shut off the brake lights, and let cruise control to work properly. i feel that this has also caused my front rotors to warp. i contacted the dealer ship and was told that there is a return spring that needs to be added. service bulletin 05-08-92 rer system of the car if the brake light is on. is the transmission able to function properly or is this what caused my transmisson to go out. *ak
