Defect Summary	The bolts used to attach the strut to the body and the rear liftgate can accumulate fatigue damage if three factors combine. if the bolt is loose, the gas strut is over-pressurized, and the frequency of opening and closing cycles is higher than for the average customer, the bolt can fail.
Consequence Summary	Personal injury could occur if the bolts break allowing the liftgate to fall suddenly.
Corrective Summary	Dealers will inspect for loose fasteners, if the fasteners are loose, the strut (and integral bolts) will be replaced. if the bolt shows evidence of torque, the bolt will be removed, larger washers will replace the existing washer and the bolt will be reinstalled and hand tightened to the target torqued.
Notes	Owner notification began during august 1997. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

	Liftgate latches in the subject vehicles have failed in low and moderate speed impacts resulting in occupant ejections, injuries, and fatalities.there are two failure modes associated with latch failure: fork bolt-detent lever bypass, and inertial unlatching.nhtsa analyses of chrysler and peer minivans took the form of static and dynamic crash testing, engineering evaluations, complaint and field analyses, and real world data analyses.a technical report discussing these analyses can be found in the engineering analysis technical report in the public viewing file.chrysler has advised nhtsa that it will conduct a campaign to replace the latches on all the subject vehicles.the chrysler campaign will consist of notification letters to all owners; free replacement of all latches with stronger, safer latches regardless of the age of the minivans; national advertising to promote customer awareness of the campaign; quarterly reports regarding campaign completion rates; as well as additional measures to ensure a high completion rate, above and beyond the actions that normally would be taken in a formal safety recall.these include follow up written and telephonic notifications to owners who do not bring their vehicles in for corrective action.nhtsa firmly believes that the crash performance of the latches on these minivans raises serious safety concerns, and that the campaign addresses these concerns.the chrysler corrective action will increase the strength of the liftgate latches and decrease the potential for inertial unlatching, thereby reducing the risk of crash-related openings of the liftgate and possible occupant ejection through the liftgate opening.owners of chrysler minivans will get a stronger, safer latch free of charge at the earliest possible time, without the need for further technical investigation and complex and time-consuming litigation with an uncertain outcome.based on the above, odi is closing this investigation.

	The anti lock brakes failed prior to/after recall repairs. mr the abs light was intermittent. the hyd assembly and the brake system was replaced. there was a grinding noise in the engine, transmission, and when braking. the repairs and or replacement parts are as followed: replaced the gasket, repaired the ground wiring of the abs, replaced the serpentine belt and motor mount . the transmission shift was out of gear. the consumer has requested reimbursement. scc

	When trying to close the door it came off track. dealer says a bolt needs to be replaced. *ak

	On 21 february 2003, the bolt used to attach the right strut to the body and the rear liftgate broke not allowing the rear liftgate to open. a review of recalls for my model of vehicle (1992 plymouth voyager) on the nhtsa complaints database disclosed recall # 97v079000. the recall summary advised that owner notifications began during august 1997. i was never notified of this recall.

	Liftgate support arm that holds up trunk broke. arm sheared off and tore hole in roof. also, trunk lid fell, and hit consumer on head and arm. also, liftgate arms had been replaced twice through recall. contact dealer, and could not get through. called chrysler and filed a complaint. ak when repair was made on july sixth, mechanic stated that the right liftgate was weak also, this right one was just replaced the month before. slc

	Recall 97v079000 chrysler//liftgate support bracket; owner feels that the corrective action does not justify recall. the washer were replaced two years ago. now the bolts need to be replaced because of breakage and the dealer is charging $162.00 to correct problem. please provide any further information. *ak

	In 1996, we noticed some blistering on the hood of our van. by that same summer, the paint has begun to peel off. since then, the hood is almost void of all paint and the paint on the roof has also peeled off and is rusting badly. after asking some casual questions concerning this, it was our understanding that nothing could be done and it was our loss. we now realize this is not true. after some research, we have found many complaints of the same and since there is is no class action against chrysler, we would like to proceed further to have this taken care of. if chrysler does not want to assume liability or a gesture of good will to have our van repainted, we are prepared to take this to small claims court.*ak
