Defect SummaryVehicle description: mini vans. the wiring that initiates the driver and/or passenger air bag could electrically short circuit to ground. a short circuit to ground that exists immediately after turning the ignition key to the on or start position can cause the air bag(s) to inadvertently deploy.
Consequence SummaryInadvertent air bag deployment can injure a front seat occupant.
Corrective SummaryDealers will perform an electronic diagnostic check. any short circuits identified in either the driver's or passenger side air bag initiator wire circuit will be repaired.
NotesOwner notification began august 2, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chrysler at 1-800-992-1997. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Clock sping is a wire harness located in the steering column that controls the driver side air bag, horn & cruise contol . when damaged from no fault on part of the driver the horn will not work the air bag will not deploy when needed or might deploy without any impact . i feel that this is a safty defect that should be repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the consumer.*ak

 Airbag light came on, and horn/cruise control stopped working. dealer determined clock spring assembly needed to be replaced. *ak

 My girl friend and i wher voming home from portland,me on the maine turnpike and she started getting tired so she pulls in to the next rest area and i took over driving . as i started to gain speed turning out of the rest area on to the turnpike i felt the steering wheel catch up and i had to give the steering wheel a good jurk to get the steering wheel to streghten up . then i heard a snap abd the air bag light came on and i lost my horn and cruise control.when we got home the next day i took the air bag out for fear it might go off. *ak

 Dealership refused to send a mechanic to repair 3 recall notices, including recall 99v113000/ air bag failure; recall 97v148000/ seat belt failure, and 96v099ooo/ abs brake failure. authorized another mechanic to perform work to repair recall, or provide consumer with necessary parts to repair the defects. consumer was informed that dealership was under no obligation to perform these functions. *ak the consumer had asked the manufacturer for assistance in repairing the steering wheel, the windshield wiper pivot and lift gate supprt bolts, because the parts were defective, but the manufacturer refused to help. *yh
