Defect SummaryVehicle description: mini vans equipped with integrated child seats. the shoulder harness restraint on the integrated child seat can become difficult to extract when the safety belt latch plate becomes contaminated.
Consequence SummaryThis can cause difficulty in releasing a child from the restraint.
Corrective SummaryDealers will clean the latch mechanism. an extender will be added to the emergency release anchor for the child seat safety belts so that the release clips are more visible and accessible to the operator in the event that the retractor mechanism can not be unlocked. in addition, an instructional owner's manual supplement card will be provided.
NotesOwner notification is expected to begin november 30, 1998.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chrysler at 1-800-992-1997.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 The car seat came with the vehicle and harness latch opened and closed intermittently. *jb the consumers daughter was buckled into the built in car seat, and when it was time to get her out, the seat belt wouldn't extend out to release. the straps remained locked and will not release. scc

 Both integrated child safety seat straps would not unlatch. needed to used a screw driver to unlatch harness straps. dealer notified ,and informed consumer that was not covered under a recall, and any repairs would be at consumer's cost. asking nhtsa to look into this matter. feel free to provide any further information.*ak

 Consumer has an integrated child safety seat in vehicle, and the child's hair got caught in it on numerous occasions. consumer had to take child to the doctor because bunches of hair had been pulled out. also, child safety restraint has been repaired 3 times because it would lock up. manufacturer told consumer that it was nothing that they could do. they told the consumer to call here first and make a complaint. *ak

 The built in car seat make the childrens legs fall asleep within a 10 minute ride. yh

 The intergrated child saftey system setbelt locked, not allowing the belt to be pulled away from child. no accident occurred to cause the belt to lock. after the child was removed, by releasing the anchor clip, the belt began to function normally. this has occurred with both intergrated child safety seats in the vehicle.*ak

 The consumer received a recall notice on child seat belt straps but the dealer cleaned the strap instead of replacing it. the problem reoccurred and the dealer wants to charge for the service but the consumer states the recall was not done and he should not be charged for the service. *yh
