Tl*the contact owns a 1996 plymouth voyager. since november of 2003, the transmission has been replaced three different times. after purchasing a brand new transmission, it failed again the very same day and needed to be replaced again. the contact has had the top half of the engine rebuilt. the vehicle is stuck in drive and will not hold fluid. the front windshield wipers activate without a power surge in the vehicle. in addition, the rear bolts keep coming out of the shocks. the contact has taken the vehicle to have the bolts tightened three or four times. the engine is ticking and smoking. the serpentine belt slips off if it gets even slightly wet from snow or rain. the check engine light sporadically flashes on and off or constantly remains illuminated. the air conditioner was completely serviced; however, it cannot be used because of the transmission failure. the current mileage was 155,000 and failure mileage was 116,250. update 09/10/08 *cw updated 09/15/08. *jb

I'm having a problem right now concerning the van's ignition or fuel component. since june, 2003 the engine will all of the suddent die or the compression goes down to a minimum that will allow the engine to only run; this has happened four times. then when i let the engine cool down for awhile, i can start it up and it will run ok for a while. mechanics are telling me that they can't tell what the problem is until the problem shows itself; also they say it could be some kind of ignition module of some sort. on two of the occasions, i was on a major freeway with my three kids in tow and we were stranded in the car pool lane. if you have any ideas of what the problem could be please let me know. also, my windshield wipers go on at any time on their own and my paint peels in the back top of the van adjacent to the back hatch.

Serpentine belt tensioner broke causing belt to brake, loosing power steering capabitlties. this could cause a serious accident if vehicle was driven at highway speed. manufactuer insists that this is a normal wear item, and not that unusual. vehicle owner has heard of two other instances such as this although they were not reported. there appears to be potential deadly defect with this part even though the maufactuer will not admit to it. serious potential for injury exists if the tensioner breaks at highway speeds.

While driving my vehicle will start losing power. then, the engine cuts off. at first when trying to restart it acts as if it's flooded . upon waiting about 10 minutes it will start back up, but it will never give back all power, and then it will cut off again. consumer had taken the van to 2 different repair shops. both seemed to think they fixed the problem, but had it back no more than 1 week ,and it would do it all over again. in the past month consumer invested $1500.00 to the problems of this van, and it still was not fixed. also, windshield wipers cut on and off at their choosing. help!!! this has happened 4 times as of today. only purchased the care on nov 29, 2002. *ak

The engine (long block) had to be replaced because of the oil pump failure causing damage to the heads. we were told that the engine looked like it had never been serviced (neglected). we have documentation of services at the dealerships. in july 1999, engine overheated and the fan relay was subsequently recalled. in oct, 1999, we had problems with an oil leak. the dealership checked it and said it looked like the oil had never been changed in 5 years. the oil was thick like tar. they cleaned out the whole system with detergents and chemicals. the vehicel overheated again a week after the new engine was put in. the fan engines had shorted and the fan relay damaged too. it just seems like we have had to replace the engine, after 5 years, because of overheating problems that damaged it.*ak

My engine has had several problems, and every time they fix it, something else happens. it is still sputtering and the check engine light came on again even after i spent 650.00 to have it fixed a few weeks ago. now, yesterday they did yet another fuel system recall, and today (4/15/00) the check engine light came on and it is sputtering again. i am sick of sinking money into this van and it is not even paid for. also, the number of fuel system and engine recalls they have had is dangerous. most of their recalls have had to do with the possibility of the van catching fire. i hate to think about what could happen to my children while riding in this vehicle. they need desperately to put out a recall on the head gasket leaking oil. i had to have a $1,000.00 head gasket job at 60,000. that is ridiculous. i think it was due to improper repair of the oil galley plug recall, but they say that is not related, even though in the recall notice it states that engine cylinder head oil galley plug does not seal properly and engine cylinder head oil is not adequately retained. inadequate sealing and retention of the plug can result in oil leakage... how can they say my van leaking oil from the cylinder head was not related? please respond. i need some help on this matter. *ak

Windshield wipers: injury was to my infant son. i had placed him in his carrier, next to the van, so i could unlock the door....there was ice on the windshield becuase we did not have a garage in nc. as i opened the sliding door, the wipers went into operation, slinging ice onto my baby who was in his seat on the driveway. the keys were not even in the ignition. i have had and continue to still have problems with the wipers, and i addressed the dealer and chysler customer service and neither one of them are willing to remedy the wiper problem unless i pay for it. it has been in for the same problem numerous times ( at least 4) and it is still not resolved. as for the engine, it is a fire hazard in itself....i continue to have check engine problems at which point i have to have it towed for fear of driving it. its been hesitating and the check engine light comes on (a head gasket problem), then a feww weeks later the check engine light came on again (they said it was hesitating because it needs a tune-up.). i had all that done, to the tune of about 1500.00 and now the check engine light is on again, it is hesitating, sputtering, and running terrible again. wonder what they will say is going to fix it this time? it is obvious that it cannot be fixed....they need a recall on this problem.....there have been many service bulletins on it. please do a recall on the engine. *ak

Tensioner pulley on serpentine belt system of engine has failed twice since i have owned this vehicle. first failure was at approximately 30,000 miles. pulley had seized on its bearings, and stopped turning. the failure forced the serpentine belt to run continuously against a non-rotating member of the belt drive train. this failure did not cause the belt to break, however it did cause premature wear on the belt. if the failure had not been detected, the belt would have broken due to fatigue and heat related stress, causing loss of power steering assist, and power brake assist, as well as loss of engine water pump function, and loss of alternator function. dealer replaced the pulley assembly at approx 30,000 miles. the replacement subsequently failed somewhere prior to reaching 54,000 miles, and failed in the same manner -- it seized on its bearings and stopped turning. dealer again replaced pulley assembly. two failures of the same subassembly indicates to me that this particular component has an inherent design flaw. undetected failure of this part can lead to sudden loss of the serpentine belt which will cause instant loss of power steering assist and power brake assist, either of which can lead to a serious accident.

I own a 1996 plymouth voyager and on this min van the wipers act very erratic. they work when they want. sometimes they won't shut off and other times they will not come on at all or stop right in the middle of your view. i also have an issue with the serpentine belts popping off the drive line leaving you with no power steering or power brakes and completely disables the vehicle. i also experience issues with the rear shocks. the bolts come loose and detaches the rear shick from the van leaving it quite uncontrollable while driving. all 3 issues happens on many occasions. all 4 of these defects make this van very dangerous to drive or travel with. currently my van is sitting in my drive with a bad transmission. i have owned the van for 5 years now and in 5 years i have blown 3 transmissions. *tr
