Dt*: the contact stated while driving 15 mph there was a smell of fuel and smoke was coming from the air vents. someone behind the vehicle alerted the driver that the vehicle was on fire. the driver pulled off of the road and exited the vehicle. the vehicle was engulfed in flames and was totaled. the fire department and the police department were notified. the fire department determined the fire originated from the hood and spread throughout the vehicle. updated 07/03/06. *jb

Dt: the contact stated vehicle stalls when idling followed by the engine dying. the vehicle restarts after several attempts. he took the vehicle to an independent repair shop. the repair shop cleaned the throttle body and the fuel injection system. this did not correct the problem. no further repairs have been made at this time. *ak

I have a 1997 plymouth voyager. the vehicle has been regularly maintained and has approx. 91,000 miles on it. approx. 10 days ago, the cam broke and the engine (3.3 liter) suddenly quit while i was traveling on the highway. power steering was lost and fortuantely, i was able to coast and bring the car to a stop without power steering or power brakes. repair required replacement of the engine. i am concerned because two repair shops that i spoke with indicated they have had several similar failures. this seems to be a widespread problem and should be investigated and a sudden engine failure is obviously unsafe.

While driving transmission began slipping, a crack was found in the radiator divider between the transmission fluid cooling loop and the radiator water, this ruined the transmission as well as the radiator, the replacement radiator was made with thicker metal, consumer feels it is thoughtless to run transmission fluid through a water-filled radiator knowing that any flaw or crack in the dividing wall between the two elements could ruin the transmission. *slc

My plymouth voyager was pouring oil profusely. upon taking it to a dealership service dept., i discovered i had to replace the head gasket, cam seals, and exhaust manifold, just 1900k out of my extended warranty. 3 days later a knocking noise was heard, upon taking back to dealership they said it was the timing belt, pulley, and tensioner this time. upon questioning them whether this malfunction could have been the result of their previous work, they responded they did not have to touch these parts in the previous repair. i in turn called an independent garage who confirmed for me that these parts in fact had to be removed. due to my mistrust of this dealership i took this second problem to the independent garage. they informed me of a problem with the plymouth neon head gasket failure, and that i had the same engine in my plymouth voyager, only difference was mine has a metal plate and the neon's have a plastic plate on top. i looked this problem up, and it is huge for the plymouth neons, so i called chrysler to request some assistance, and currently have been turned down. since this is one and the same engine, and since chryler extended the warranty up to 5 years/1000,000km, i feel they should at least try to assist a loyal customer of their products. the repair bill for just the replacement of head gasket, cam seals, and manifold totaled $1002.19 with labor included. this was ridiculous, and way too costly.

The engine locked up on me while driving. the oil pressure light came on and before i had the chance to pull over the engine locked up. according to the owner's manual the warning light will come on for 4 minutes then go off. my engine locked up before the warning signal went off indicating that i had less than 4 minutes to respond. daimler chrysler has agreed to pay one half of the repairs costs, however, i feel that the oil screen in the oil pan became clogged as a result of mechanical failure. i have maintained my vehicle according to the owners manual. i feel that this engine design is defective and would like for daimler chrysler to stand behind thier product by completely paying for the new engine that i had to have. i firmly believe that a 1997 plymouth voyager with only 53,865 miles should not need a new engine, when the van has been properly driven and maintained. *ak

Since the late winter of 97/98, the vehicle in question has suffered occasional inexplicable stalls. usually they would occur when the engine was warm and the car had come to a routine stop (e.g. red light). the car would then stall. more alarmingly, on several occasions it has stalled while moving in traffic creating a potentially dangerous situation. the car has been returned to the dealer for correction over a half dozen times. twice the co-pilot was installed. the dealer has been unable to recreate or diagnose the problem. their only suggestions have been to switch to a lower octane fuel and to use only a single key on the keychain. neither ceased the problem. subsequently they have only continued to say, bring it back. in the interim, a potentially tragic hazard continues to exist. please advise as to any alternatives. the primary driver is my wife, patricia flynn, work # 617-424-0665.

This van, slightly over 1 year old, has a history of stalling, windshield wipers going on without reason and off, radio breaking, tape player making noise when not used and the brakes went out the first time, i was told it was fixed, and the very next day they went out again almost causing a serious accident and deaths. this is serious and i would like to know actions taken by nhtsa concerning this as i have seen many other instances/complaints of stalling, windshield wiper problems and serious brake defects and breakdowns on nhtsa's customer complaints on the internet. i believe that nhtsa should give more serious investigative attention against daimler chrysler concerning the stalling and brake problems as this is putting people's lives in danger it seems on a constant and re-occuring basis!

Driving in the rain/snow causes serp belt to slip off. over the last 5 years it has slipped numerous times(8+), after careful inspection of the belt and pulleys the belt was reinstalled or replaced. after the belt causing a sensor break, had mechanic troubleshoot and it was deemed the tensioner needed to be replaced and the serp belt replace as well as sensor. after this maintenance, the vehicle continued to lose serp belt. the car has overheated, battery drained and has become very hard to steer or steering appears to lock after losing the belt that controls all accessory functions, alternator, ac, power steering, water pump. multiple accidents have been avoided due to quick thinking. *nm

Ibought the car in feburaury. i brought it back in 3 days with the the van making a noise in it they replaced the serpentene belt. i no longe herd the noise for a little while. when i bought it i was told they would fix the a/c i would have to bring it back in to fix it. i brought it back and they said it was fixed nd it only worked for the drive half way home. i then brought it back for four days while theytook aparrt the dash board and replaced the evaporator. i checked to see if the a/c worked and it did but i turned off due to little gas in the tank. the next time i used it was in april to go to the beach wth friends. it worked going up there and then on the way back it was not working and my van over heated. i then brought it to them and asked them to look at it. they then rigged a fuse to the clutch to keep the fan on at all times so it would not over heat. i felt that they were going to charge me fr it to be repaired for this time it was after the 30 day warranty so there for i was waiting to see if i could get money together to fix it. i then stated having problems with it over heating so i called them afte another mechaniclooked at it and said it was a fire waiting tohappen and things were not put in correctly, he even told them and thy told him to tell me to make an appt. so i called and they told me they could not get it until wed. i explained i had to go out of town and that it was a fire hazard. i then asked if i could bring it in to have him look att it an he said no it would be wed. i tried to have them lok and see if they could come up with a game plan. i then called them yesteday and he said i refusedto bring it inand that is not te case. i told him i was going to bring it to you and e said go a head and then hung up on me.i then called back talked to the owner and he listened temporarly until i told him i used the a/c once he then said i was being dishonest and then at that point i told him he has no right calling me a lier .*ak
