Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.

The brakes on my vehicle have gone out 6 times. the initial time was at 30,000 miles and every 10,000 miles since then. each time the mechanics have looked futher and further into the problem and have now discovered it is the steeriing knuckle that locks the caliper and brake pad into the knuckle. it brake pad grinds into the knuckle causing pits into the medal of the knuckle and brake pads worn out every 10,000 miles. these are warranty covered parts that will be replaced by the warranty company if they are give a reason for this defect and defect is caused by a covered part. the dealer cannot explain what is causing the problem. chrysler corporation has been informed and they will not get involved because the car was not fixed at the chrysler dealer every time. the warranty company advised me that this could be a design flaw with my particular vechicle and that chrysler should get out ther to look at the vehicle. *ak

This van, slightly over 1 year old, has a history of stalling, windshield wipers going on without reason and off, radio breaking, tape player making noise when not used and the brakes went out the first time, i was told it was fixed, and the very next day they went out again almost causing a serious accident and deaths. this is serious and i would like to know actions taken by nhtsa concerning this as i have seen many other instances/complaints of stalling, windshield wiper problems and serious brake defects and breakdowns on nhtsa's customer complaints on the internet. i believe that nhtsa should give more serious investigative attention against daimler chrysler concerning the stalling and brake problems as this is putting people's lives in danger it seems on a constant and re-occuring basis!
