ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - BATTERY

$5,975.00 - in the last 16 months the 1999 plymouth voyager van i purchased at courtesy chrysler has been in the shop over 18 times, often for the same problems. i have had to buy 6 new times and 3 new batteries. on average, i have added between 3 and 4 quarts of oil every month and new coolant every 3 months (it over heats a lot). i have suffered verbal and mental abuse from the personnel at courtesy chrysler to the point where i had to jump out of my moving van as my personal service advisor was berating me and told me that there was nothing wrong with my van, the brakes, the engine, etc., during a test drive. when i opened the door to jump out he stepped on the brakes...and they did not work! mind you, they had my vehicle in their shop for the last two days to repair the brakes and my personal service advisor kept saying that the van was fine! after giving me a brand new 2002 chrysler minivan, they said that my van would be ready the next afternoon for pick-up and if there were any problems, they would contact me.*ak

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30mph, the airbag warning light illuminated without any prior warning. afterwards, the dash panel clock, radio, and heating defroster stopped working. the contact parked the vehicle and attempted to turn the engine off. the key would not release from the ignition and the engine continued running. after multiple attempts, the contact removed the battery cables from the battery and reattached them. the engine stopped running, but the clock and radio illuminated indicating normal function. although the key remained in the ignition, the vehicle was not seen by a dealer.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 plymouth voyager. the contact could not start her vehicle and it was towed to a mechanic. the mechanic stated that a cylinder in the tumbler, where the key is placed in the ignition to start the vehicle, failed. the failure first occurred at 60,000 miles and recurred on september 7, 2007. the vehicle cannot start once this component fails. the vehicle is no longer under warranty and the contact was informed that she would be responsible for the repair. she believed it was a defect that failed every 50,000 miles and she should not be responsible for the repair. the vehicle is currently at the dealer and has not been repaired. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 119,000 and failure mileage was 60,000. updated 10/24/07. *jb

Drain plug is cross threaded and stripped out. oil change place said they have seen this problem with many chysler mini vans and they have provided me with three related articles that support the facxt that the drain plugs have too short threads which casuses them to strip out easily after normal oil change use. this will end up costing me over $200!! they are claiming that i have to buy a new oil pan, which is probably the same so this will undoubtly happen again the next time i get my oil changed a few times. if this is noted and had been documented many times why hasn't this problem been fixed via a recall?? the easy fix according to the articles is to simply install a longer drain plug with longer threads. please advise where i can go from here. i am only leasing this vehicle and even bought an extended warrantly, but this is crap!*ak

Dealer wouldn't repair problem other units recalled but not the 1999 model. dt

Failure of this part caused the vehicle to violently shift to 1st gear at 45 mph. the speedometer and odometer did not read. vehicle had to be towed. dealer stated that this part should not have failed on such a new vehicle. i purcahsed an extended warranty, which covers powertrain, electrical and standard instrument cluster, but was told that this sensor was not covered, eventhough it controls the instrument cluster. i paid $130 for repair. if this had happened in traffic or at highway speed i shudder to think how the vehicle would have reacted, since the sudden, unexpected downshift caused the vehicle to lurch forward violently. the dealer's service rep said that this part did not usually fail, but that in the past month they had replaced more than usual. i have only had this vehicle for 7 months and it has already left me stranded. overall, my dealer and service rep were very polite and friendly. please let me know your expert opinion about this incident.
