My saturn vue 2003 experiences serious hestitation in power when traveling over 45 mph. the dangerous sputtering gets harder when i need to drive more than 45 mph such as when i have to travel on parkways or expressways. on december 3, 2011, i entered exit 36 of the grand central parkway and maintained a steady speed of 55 mph in light traffic. as the traffic increased to exit 17, the car began to hestitate and appear to want to come to a stop. it was difficult to maintain a decreased spead of 45 mph to avoid the sputtering and halting. i got into the right lane and exited the parkway as my car jolted then came to a sudden halt. i turned the car off, waited 15 minutes, put my car in drive and it would not drive forward. i put it in reverse and manuevered it into an open space along the curb on 78th avenue. i tried again and only with heavy pressure on the gas pedal was the car able to move forward enough to allow me to straighten into a position to be towed. i called aaa and was towed to a saturn authorized service provider, northshore chevrolet of smithtown, where it sits to this day. the brand new 2010 vt1 transmission needs to be replaced.

On the 27th of august 2011 the power train (vti transmission) quit working. i was at a traffic light and had applied my brakes, when the light turned green the vti transmission would not engage. i was left stranded with only reverse. saturn had issued a vti transmission letter several years befor that stated they knew their was a defect with the vti transmission and all transmission work would be 100% covered. now the new owner of gm states he dosen't have to honor that vti transmission letter. since that incedent the vti transmission has gone out three more times.

This vehicle was 6 cylinder model with awd. it has a standard 5 speed automatic transmission. the transmission went out (slipped) completely going up a low rise. after stopping and starting up again, it worked again for another few hundred yards and then went out again just as we went into an intersection. we were able to pull over and call for a tow. a total replacement of the transmission was required at considerable expense.

I purchased this car brand new in 2003 and am the only driver. other than the now defunct transmission, the car is in excellent shape, both inside and out. while driving appx. 70mph on the freeway, my vue lost power down to 30mph and rpms increased to over 5000. the check engine and reduced power warning lights illuminated. i managed to drive the car to the recommended gm service center and was told that the vti transmission had failed. service advisor contacted gm and was told they wouldn't provide any assistance. car is still at gm service center as there is no way to repair the transmission and assure me that the $5000 it will cost me will last since they can not get a new transmission, only rebuild another one that has failed. this car is only 8 years old with 114k miles and based on my history with saturn vehicles, my expectation was that it should have lasted at least another 3 years and 50k miles. also, based on the information i have read online from other vue owners with this same problem, it appears that gm is not consistent with the level of response or assistance to us. how can it be that someone with 120k miles gets their repair/replacement at no charge and others with less mileage can not? there is no consistency, it is a crap shoot as to the response you will receive. i still have the letters i received from saturn notifying me that this is a known issue and the transmission was destined to fail. gm should be held responsible for providing relief to all of us, equally, since they knew that eventually we would all be affected. i am included in the class-action lawsuit with lakin chapman.

Transmission blew out on freeway with my kids in it. it had only less than 80000 miles on it. saturn covered only half of cost for new transmission, should been recall. they should have covered for full cost of this failed transmission. should not happen in first place. very dangerous car. please investigate.

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 saturn vue. while driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle stopped accelerating. the vehicle was pulled over and towed home. after he allowed the vehicle to cool off he was again able to drive normally. the failure recurred intermittently while driving at any speed so he was in the process of taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer to be examined for the cause of failure. the failure and current mileages were 114,000. sm.

I purchased a 2003 saturn vue with a defective vti transmission, dec. 09. the saturn dealership in raleigh, nc, did not inform me of the defect, upon the sales transaction. a service bulletin came out 12/09, from gm to appease consumers, by offering an extended warranty to help with the cost to replace this defective part, however, gm needed to fix the problem and replace the defective vti transmission with a part that is not defective. instead, they leave consumers with an unsafe vehicle that will continue to break down causing safety concerns and huge out of pocket expenses. the car has lost value because of the defective part and worst of all i am afraid to drive it for fear of breakdown, particularly at freeway driving, which has been noted by other consumers. gm loses 100m lawsuit because of early transmission failures in more than 90,000 saturns carrying the vti transmissions and still their has been no recall. this investigation and recall is long overdue and affecting used vehicles that are still being sold today, with the 2002-2005 saturn vue and ions between 2003-2004 and 2000-2003 saturn l-series, containing the vti transmissions. *tr

I bought a used 2003 saturn vue two months ago, and since then it has been nothing but trouble. the major problem with it know is the transmission (automatic vti). when driving on the freeway two days ago, the car was on cruise control at 65 mph, when all of the sudden, the rpms red lined at 7000. after that i disengaged the cruise control and attempted to drive the car onto the shoulder, but it would not accelerate. also when stopping the car, the engine starts to rumble and shake, then when accelerating again the engine revs up but no movement. after about five to ten seconds the car catches gear and it feels like i've been in a rear end collision when it does. three days ago the car did this in the middle of an intersection while i was making a left hand turn (it stopped and just revved the engine), i was almost hit by an oncoming car but they managed to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision. the vue is currently in the shop and i am unable to afford a new transmission so i am stuck with a dead vehicle which i just purchased two months ago. *tr

Failure of the vti transmission on the 2002 - 2005 saturn vue. i was notified by a fellow vue owner that they are having serious transmission problems with this vehicle. i have had issues with my transmission since purchase and have documentation that i again brought it to my dealers attention at 55,000 miles. upon research i find that the noise my car is now making is probably not the wheel bearings but the transmission. *tr

I purchased my new 2003 saturn vue from york pa saturn (sutliff group) and they have patched up my 2003 vue by replacing valves, sensors etc. on the vti transmission/transaxles 5 or 6 different times, which they well know will not fix the problem. i still experience transmission failure during extended periods of driving or times of traffic stop situations. i have experienced transmission problems from the 10,000 mile point on until this time. does not shift properly into higher gear , still makes grinding noises while turning and accelerating and otherwise fails to operate properly. transmission was looked at by dealer 5 times avoiding the issue of transmission replacement. several close calls have invoked me to start a major campaign against the saturn corp. saturn is now being decided in the court system (cas) the final decision should be in the next few weeks so keep checking back on this and other sites that attract lemon vehicles! all i ask is for gm/saturn to replace my faulty drive train (engine and transmission) free of all labor and parts with the new type drive train that is in the new 2007-08 vue or replace with a new vehicle!!! its that simple saturn! and until this happens this transmittal will continue on to websites, public posts, flyers, in front of saturn dealers etc. etc... ps. i have copied just about every person and business that has exposure to intersections shopping malls etc. so tell all your friends, working colleagues, etc. get the word out about gm/saturn. *tr

The vehicle in question is a 2003 saturn vue. i purchased the vehicle with 53,048 miles on it, so i agreed to buy it in as is condition. i got the vehicle on dec. 31st 2007, and i drove it off the lot. i felt a weird shake that reminded me of when a battery was dying. on hills the truck would roll backwards, and kick hard when i pushed the gas. it would just randomly jerk, and it did this all throughout my ownership. the truck was serviced regularly, and mechanics never saw a problem. finally, about 2 weeks ago, the truck encountered major problems. the truck decided that it was no longer going to accelerate, it was a fight to move forward. the rpms stayed between 1-3 even when the vehicle was not in motion. the transmission is unique, and is said to have less parts. it is said to be bad because the truck is too heavy for the transmission. it is a minimum of 3 thousand dollars to repair. they say that the problem will reoccur. the repairs are frequent and costly and something should be done. *tr

2003 saturn vue. at 80,000 miles transmission went out and had to get it replaced. at 98000 miles 8 months later noticed sputtering and took it to dealership. was told at first it was the ignition coil and the spark plugs and modules needed replaced for 682 dollars. 4 hours later they called and said they fixed it and it is not fixed i now have a bad #1 cylinder and have to get the whole engine replaced for 5400 dollars. awaiting call back from saturn corporate to see if they are going to help. it is pretty sad that a 5 year old can needs both the tranny built and a new engine before 100,000 miles. should of kept my honda civic with 230,000 miles. it runs better. *tr

I own a 2003 saturn vue awd car that has 79,500 miles. there have been numerous problems with the car since purchasing it brand new in 2003. the biggest issue involved the power train. a secondary belt in the engine broke while the car was being driven on the highway. when the secondary belt broke is tangled with the timing belt causing the timing belt to skip a tooth. 12 valves were bent. i contacted a saturn dealership regarding the issue with the power train and was told it would cost 7000.00 to repair. i have had the engine repaired by an independent mechanic. no warning lights ever appeared to denote any issue with the power train. *tr

York pa> saturn has patched up my 2003 vue by replacing valves sensors etc. which they well know will not fix the problem. after regular preventable maintenance, 2003 saturn vue has continuously experienced transmission problems from 10,000 point on. vehicle while just traveling down a road at 30-40 mph), does not shift properly into higher gear , makes loud grinding noises while turning and accelerating and otherwise fails to operate properly transmission was looked at by dealer several times avoiding the issue of transmission replacement. problems continue after servicing. have read extensive reports and complaints involving saturn vue vt1 transmission. saturn needs to have a recall - it's consumers can't afford all of these repairs for what is clearly a faulty transmission that has been discontinued! next step is class action suit by owners!!!!!!!!!! think about all of these unhappy people when sales get tough saturn??? i will not consider another saturn under these irresponsible conditions saturn has brought on itself!!! *tr

I bought a 2003 saturn vue in 2008 with 120,000 miles on it. it had a 3 month power tam waruntee. 1 month after that expired the transmission went out. furious, i called the saturn dealership. they were amazing. they understood and put a new transmission in, paid for the towing and even reimbursed me for the rental car expense. the new transmission went out 3 years later, and i put less than 20,000 miles on it. i was denied any assistance from gm because of the mileage on the car. mileage? i bought it used! now i am stuck with a car that is worth nothing but the spare parts?! there is a long hisytory of this model blowing out transmission and gm does nothing about it!? this is not an owner's problem, its a manufacturer problem and they offer 0 back for a trade in rebate?! this is impossible to believe and only further proves that the american auto indusrty cuts corners as well as scams its customers. this is a shameful company, and i hope this complaint is heard. i'm sure i'm not the only one.

My wife & i brought a used 03 saturn vue with only 39,000 miles on jun 20. great condition until jul 19, the car started acting strange. we took it to a mechanic and they though it may be the transmission to take it to a transmission specialist. we did & sure enough it is. we are on a tight budget and unable to even get another loan. we came across a website that the 03 saturn vue had a recall and a lawsuit. why are these dealers still selling saturns with a defective transmission? we made our 1st car payment on jul 15 and now it is just sitting there. any advice would be greatly appreciative!

2003 saturn vue cvt/vti transmission problems. already fixed at a saturn dealer 2 years ago after complete failure while driving on a curvy 55 mph country road. an accident was possible at that time and luckily i had a parking lot pull off to access. i am the original owner and was never notified of a highly apparent know defect. this saturn was involved in an accident because the transmission once again failed without notice and only after a saturn dealership fixed this problem 2 years prior and not many miles later. luckily, i was returning home after returning my 7 year old daughter to her mother just ten minutes and 6 miles earlier. if she was in the back seat it is highly likely she would have been very seriously injured or dead. the passenger was injured and rushed to the hospital. i was banged up as the driver. this vti transmission is an epic failure! how many people need to lose their lives before something is done. i was completely unaware of the widespread problem until i did a little research on the internet. beyond shocking, to say the least. i am contacting an attorney and inquiring about being stuck with this unsafe lemon. i have been refered by saturn to a local gm dealer for service via mail, so i will start there. i am dismayed that there has been nothing done with this even after a class action suit was awarded which i was unaware of until tonight 4/6/11. can you live with the guilt of knowing about an ongoing and evident problem and the lives that will likely be lost due to known problem. why in the world has there not been a recall on this problem. toyota has a few gas pedal issuses and bingo. i would rather be driving one of those after seeing and experiencing what i have recently. how many of these ticking time bombs are still out on the road. i see several almost daily. there is another form of a domestic terrorist and it is the poor unassuming saturn drivers. this car fell shy of being a total. insurance companies will have interest.

We purchased a 2003 saturn vue from an individual on february 14, 2011. we had the car almost one month and we were out to eat on a sunday in hendersonville tn when my husband goes to put our vue into reverse to pull out of a stall and it would back up it just would not go forward. we thought maybe it was low on transmission fluid. we filled it with some and it still didnt move forward only reverse. well we call for it to be towed to the nearest saturn dealer in goodlettsville tn. now gm is giving us the runaround about giving us any money at all on this vehicle. we further found out upon investigation on the internet that saturn admitted there was troubles with the transmission but they were never made to recall these transmissions. now as a consumer that makes me mad, we went on craigslist and there are a ton of these being sold right here in tennessee. more suckers that have no clue what they are getting into. what if my husband were to have been in rush hour traffic that day and a semi rammed into him because he could only go backwards???????? this is a safety issue!!!!!!! i am mad as a consumer and i dont want anyone else to go through this nightmare!

My 2003 saturn vue seems to be having transmission problems. it is slow to start, lack of power, and have noticed while in gear rpm's up to 5000 - 6000. after it sits it seems to be able to change gears but rpm's still too high when it does shift. i took it to one shop that was not willing to work on it because they were not familiar enough with saturns, he did tell me that they ran a diagnostics test and it came back with a transmission code. it is now at another shop for further diagnosis.

We have a 2003 saturn vue and it only has 43,000 miles on it and the second transmission has now gone out. three years ago we had a new transmission put in and now for a second time it has broke. we had warranty on it and they replaced the first one and also had purchased the extended warranty, but now that saturn is not in business they will not honor our warranty. we cannot afford a second transmission and we need this vehicle really bad as we have no other transportation for our children. we have read so many reviews on this that from 2003-2005 the saturn vue transmission continue to break. what do we do now since our warranty is not valid and we can't afford to have it fixed. it's not fair at all.

Since we purchased the vehicle (2003 saturn vue) it has had one problem after another. i called gm and asked for their assistance in the matter and was told that because i bought the car used and it was not a gm certified auto center they were unable to extend any type of service. the suv loses power, begins to putt when it reaches a half of a tank gasoline. when in idle the engine shakes. going on a camping trip in the mountains this became a real problem. the car did not want to climb the hills, some times mountains. the terrain was scary enough on its own (cliffs off to the side) and needed no help from the suv not wanting to drive like it was supposed too. we have had the vehicle looked at several times and have also attempted to contact gm. gm told us that because the car is outside of the 8 year or 100,000 mile range there is nothing they can do to assist us. that being said. i have taken it to two gm certified mechanics whom tell me that it is two separate things that need to be fixed. as seen online we are not the only ones this has happened too. i really hope that someone does something about this. many americans are feeling the financial pull with out gm screwing us, i really don't need to be treated like this.

I had a 2003 saturn vue with a vti transmission. in april 2007 the transmission failed while driving on the freeway, and i paid $4773 to repair it. on april 3, 2010, the vue suddenly made a loud noise and stopped working on the railroad tracks. luckily, i was able to get help pushing the vehicle off the tracks. the saturn assistance center indicated that assistance might be available to repair the transmission because it had failed once before. i followed their direction towing the vehicle to saturn of roseville to have them diagnose the problem. saturn of roseville diagnosed an internal transmission failure. after talking to the service manager at saturn of roseville, the assistance center said they could offer me no assistance because the service manager said it was a different part of the transmission that failed than the failure in 2007. i was verbally informed that the bill to repair the transmission would be well over $5000. because the transmission failed twice, i did not want to spend a total of over $10,000 in total transmission repair costs because the transmission is known to be defective. since gm did not repair the problem the first time and offered no assistance for a repeat repair, i donated the car to a charity.

Vti transmission in 2003 saturn vue went out, stranding me on the side of the road in an unsafe area. this is a known problem with saturn vues and ions, but no recall has been issued. gm needs to be held accountable for this and recall all of the effected vehicles. i was told that because my vehicle is past the date, even though my mileage is only 62,000 (well below the 75,000 that gm is supposed to cover under the extended warranty), i would have to pay half, which is $2,500. i should not have to pay a single penny for this new transmission.

2003 saturn vue. consumer states defective transmission. *tgw after three months of purchasing the vehicle from a private seller, the consumer notice the vehicle would slip into a weird gear and the engine would sound as if it were running harder. the issue occurred at random intervals with no noticeable pattern. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was informed that was the way it was supposed to sound, but they would inspected it. when the consumer returned to pick up the vehicle, he noticed the mileage was virtually the same and wondered if they test drove the vehicle. 4-5 weeks later, the consumer received a letter from gm stating the vehicle had a potentially defective vti transmission installed at the factory. the consumer was informed nothing could be done for him based on the mileage. the consumer stated there was a problem before the mileage on the vehicle excluded him. also, the coolant light illuminated. the dealer found the water pump leaking. *jb

My 2003 saturn vue with vti transmission broke down on 3/12/10. car was towed and is at dealership awaiting a new transmission. this should be a recall and paid for by gm, instead, i have to pay $2,500 (half the cost) which i cannot afford!! the transmission is a factory defect and isn't at the recall stage yet as i was told gm has to have a certain number of complaints before it turns into a recall. please add my complaint to the list and hopefully the faulty transmissions will be recalled and we will be reimbursed. thank you.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 saturn view. while driving approximately 29 to 30 mph the vehicle lost all power without warning and she noticed that the rpms increased to 4000. she experienced the failure three times and the third time, the transmission failed. she contacted the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated that they were aware that the transmission was defective, and they will give her 50% toward the replacement or they could give her $ 5,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the transmission will be replaced. the failure and the current mileages were 87,900.

In 2007 i was driving my saturn vue awd 4cl equipped with a vti transmission down the hwy 401 in ontario. i was going a speed of 100km/hr. without warning my service engine soon light and reduced power light went on and cause my power to drop from a speed on 100km/hr to 0 in about 3 seconds. i was able to pull of the highway as my speed was decreasing but had to swerve to avoid traffic and get myself to safety. i took the vehicle back to the dealer who had it taken to a transmission shop who informed me due to this specific transmission (vti) this was a common problem. i had it fixed at cost of $4500. i receive a letter in the mail in november of 2009, from gm canada admitting there was a problem with this vehicle and they were offering various incentives. (ex a $5000 voucher towards a brand new vehicle or 50% reimbursement towards a previous repair or 50% towards a repair at present. when i called they told me because my vehicle was over 160, 000 km i would not qualify for any of these incentives even though at the time the transmission went the car was at 104,000. they offered me a $700 reimbursement. as this was going through the transmission went again, fortunately not of the highway. it again needs to be repaired for $5000, but i am concerned about the safety of the vehicle and i am unsure if i want to have it repaired. i was even told when by an agent at gm named alexis when i said the vehicle was unsafe and it should be recalled or the transmission fixed properly she statedregardless of if the vehicle is safe or not this is our policy . this is a know problem with the vti transmission and it has to do with the belt. the only rectifying gm does is to put in another transmission exactly the same. this car is a huge safety liability espc when driving at high speeds on a highway, not to mention the financial liability. gm's solution for the $5000 voucher for a new vehicle was a cobalt (how ironic as they are now being recalled). this car is very unsafe!!! *tr

O3 saturn vue purchased with 48,555 miles. 3/20/07 took to independent transmission mechanic due to transmission going out. i was told he could not do a thing to it because of a recall. took to saturn of mesquite tx, 3/21 assuming that they were going to take care of problem. customer states veh will not shift gears properly found code po606 in tcm followed doc# 1200876 to check fluid after fluid check found trans a little low on fluid flushed trans and put in additive. 3/26 took back to dealership. cust states hearing a noise coming from under the hood. found vehicle to be extremely noisy with intermittent no gear operation. followed bulletin # 04-07-30-24e to replace case cover, filter and torque converter. after completing bulletin, test drove vehicle. pulled hard to the left, aligned vehicle, all is fine. the cover assembly, variable drive and driven pulley a repaired. at this time i assumed the transmission had been replaced. 6.4.08 car back to saturn customer states vehicle slipping, light is on. tech says no light is on and found veh driving and shifting per design. went back in summer 09, slipping once again, after 5 days they could not find a problem but car was fine. 2.19.10 car towed to saturn, told transmission has to be replaced this time i thought that was what they did in 07. contacted support to be turned over to gm employee . he contacted me on 2.22.10 to advise he was working on prob.. saturn informed me 2.25.10 afterward that 2500.is what i could pay for new transmission. i already had a letter dated 11.09 stating the same thing after class action lawsuit. tanner called 2.25 to update i could pay 2500.00. if i had used my ext warranty contract in 07 i would not be out money and had a new transmission. said he gm could not help me and if i was not satisfied i could take it up with dealership. they put a bandaid on a recall and now i am to pa. *tr

Vehicle has not been driven since october of 2009 due to transmission failure. saturn knew of this problem, but because of mileage are not willing to assist me in repairs. i did not get notification of this problem until after i took the vehicle in for diagnosis. the problem with this is i cannot find a transmission to replace it with! i am making payments on something just sitting at the garage and feel helpless at to what to do at this point! it has been very frustrating and agitating. i am not in a position where i have 2 or 3 vehicles just sitting around waiting for me to drive. i have been driving my sisters truck for 4 months . thank god for her. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 saturn vue purchased used in december 2009. she found that while driving on the highway the vti transmission could fail. the contact felt unsafe in driving her vehicle due to the fact that upon contacting general motors, they confirmed with her that there was a defect in the vti transmissions but there were no recalls for the failures to date, she had not experienced any failures with the vehicle. the current mileage was 53,000.

My car 2003 saturn vue (vti transmission) just stalled on the highway without warning has 113,000 miles on it, 2 months before that i received a letter from saturn stating they were having problems, or something like that. i still have that letter. i paid $10,000.00 for the car, and still owe $7,000.00 and the car is useless to me now, i still owe on the loan, cannot get another one, live pay check to paycheck..need the car for my job, on and on......... it is sitting at a gm bergstrom lot right now, and they are giving me the run around. 1st he said he'd do everything he could to help me, and the next day he said i have very bad news, i can't do anything!! the director called with the same answer.. my car has been sitting at nordstroms in oshkosh, wi. for a couple of days now, i found this e-mail address of yours, on an e-mail of another unhappy customer of 2003 saturn vue transmission. it broke down i said i guess it is quite useless talking any more to saturn or gm. *tr

I purchased a 2003 saturn vue from a private seller on feb. 24, 2009. the car had 94,900 miles. it ran great for about 3 months. then i noticed the vue would randomly slip into a weird gear and the engine would run harder than normal. i took the car in for the 99,000 mile service and told the saturn service advisor the car sounded like a washing machine please bear in mind i an not a car person, i just drive them. when i picked the car up, i noticed the mileage was the same as when i dropped it off to be serviced. as i was driving home car started doing the same thing. i thought maybe i was just over-reacting to something that was not a real problem. about 3 or 4 weeks later i received a letter from gm stating that their could be a potential problem with the vti transmission installed at the factory. it all made sense to me at that moment. i got in touch with gm and they assigned a rep. to investigate my case and determined that my transmission was bad, however, i was 700 miles over the 100,000 mile limit by this time. i tried with no sucess to explain to the gm rep. how i had attempted to communicate the problem to the saturn service folks to resolve the problem at my 99,000 mile service. but he really didn't care really!!! i never ask for them to replace the faulty transmission for free, i was perfectly willing to go 50/50 with them on the repair due to the higher mileage of the car. so now my car is sitting on a dealers lot and i am without a car. my takeaway is buyer beware!! gm throws out junk and could care less about their customers. vs what i am seeing toyota do. toyota has shut down their plants and are not going to build anymore cars until they correct a problem. while gm keeps on throwing out the @#$% and to add further insult to injury our tax dollars went to rescue this bunch of crooks. *tr

A few years ago i purchased a used 2003 vue. currently there is approximately 120,000 miles on it. on 10/31/09 i drove my 40 miles to work and all was fine. at lunch break the check engine light came on and when i put the gas on the vehicle would hardly move. after discussing the problem with my husband, we decided to have it towed to a transmission place, not a saturn dealer, because of cost. the vehicle was only running in 3rd gear, all other gears were not working. when that problem was fixed, it was found that the computer was needing to be replaced. the transmission place has been very nice and even paid for a rental car for me, but when all is said and done, i will owe them about $3000. why am i reading all these complaints about the transmission and no recalls have been done? *tr

While driving my 2003 saturn vue, my car has been making strange noises, like my brakes were going, making a scraping noise. i was planning to take my car to have it looked at tomorrow, have the brakes looked over. tonight i was visiting my daughter and when i attempted to put my car in reverse, it would not move. so i tried to put it in drive and it moved a little and stopped. now i cannot get the car to move forward or backwards. i am filing a complaint because i had received a letter concerning a class action settlement and i was reading one of the complaints by another person with similar problems and through the info provided by this individual to contact this site. i bought my car used in 2007. is there any recall??? i know there is a class action settlement by going to saturnvti.classaction@lakinlaw.com but has there been any recalls regarding this lawsuit. it is the right thing to do since this was saturn's mistake. i am very disappointed with the way they are handling this. i really do like my saturn vue & you would think saturn would do right for the consumer of their damaged vehicles. if not i will never purchase another one & let everyone know not to bother to do so too. *tr

I purchased a saturn vue in 2003 with 7 miles on it. 2 years later as i was driving it on the highway, my rpm's gave way. cause: transmission... was completely replaced by saturn, thankfully was under warranty. now 3 years later, i am having transmission problems again. i contacted saturn and they advised me that i would have to pay for 25% of the cost. this is unacceptable. they sold a car with defective parts. as i have researched i have noticed that many consumers are being hit with the same exact problem. gm/saturn should replace all transmission at no cost, being that they were not able to make a transmission that would last. this is unacceptable. *tr

I purchased this 2003 vue used from my saturn dealer with 15,000 miles on it. shortly after purchase, i noticed a growling sort of noise when i slowed down and when turning. i brought this into the dealer on a few occasions and was told they couldn't hear the noise. since then (in the past year) on occasion the car won't go into gear; i step on the gas pedal and it doesn't move. i stop the car, put the car in park; then put the car back in drive and it works. the same initial noise is still present and recently i was told by this same saturn dealer that it is a transmission noise that may have been helped with lower mileage by installation of an upgraded software but most likely will not help much now (i have 113,000 miles on my car at this time). i feel if this transmission was deemed defective that it should be replaced by gm at their expense. i still have two more years to pay for this car and with reduced value i am upside down on this car. please help and advise ~ thank you!

! all i ask is for saturn to replace my faulty drive train (engine and transmission) free of all labor and parts with the new type drive train that is in the new 2008-09 vue or replace with a new vehicle!!! its that simple saturn! and until this happens this transmittal will continue on to websites, public posts, flyers, in front of saturn dealers etc. etc... ps. i have posted this warning on every new car buyers site just to warn prospective buyers of the failed responsibility of saturn and gm. also i have copied just about every person and business that has exposure to intersections shopping malls etc. so tell all your friends, working colleagues, etc. get the word out about saturn. *tr

I had driven my 2003 saturn vue to work the previous night with no problems. upon driving it the next morning, in busy traffic, it would not transfer out of first gear easily. i practically had to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor to even get it up to 30 mph. i have not had the problem diagnosed but have had quotes if it is the transmission and it is totally ridiculous that we as consumers have to pay more for someone's bad judgment on transmissions. i have read many forums where the complaints are numerous on the saturn transmissions and now as consumers we are up the creek without a paddle now that gm has filed bankruptcy. this is a safety issue and should of been addressed before bankruptcy before not only are the consumer's wallets empty but the risk increases for our safety as well as others. *tr

I am the second owner of a 2003 saturn vue. i purchased this car in june of 2008 because i knew saturn had a good reputation and made very reliable and safe cars. on may 10, 2009 my husband, myself, and our 2 year old daughter were leaving a gas station parking lot. my husband put the car in drive and pulled out into the road to begin our trip home. as he pulled out into the road and pressed the gas the car's rpms revved up but the car did not move. we checked to see if one of us had accidentally hit it into neutral, but it was in fact in drive. we had enough force to coast back into another entrance of the gas station parking lot and get out of the road before being hit. the vehicle would not move at all (not in drive or reverse). we had it towed to a transmission shop. they sent it to a local saturn dealer. the saturn dealer contacted us and said indeed the transmission had failed. saturn gave us a quote for repairs which we cannot afford to pay. we were told we would also get a discount as this vti transmission was now the cause of a class action lawsuit. even if we could afford it, the faulty vti transmission can only be replaced with another faulty vti transmission which could go out at any time with absolutely no warning. fortunately when our transmission did go out we were safe. however we have a 2 year old daughter and are expecting our second child in a few weeks and it is absolutely unsafe for us to put ourselves, and especially not our children, in such a situation. it is a tragedy waiting to happen. we have contacted local saturn reps, district reps, and saturn assistance. all are unwilling to help in any way. the local saturn representative told us he would not buy the car himself and that the dealership would not even want to purchase it from us if we fixed it. they know it is unsafe and still they will not help. we are left with a parked car in our yard that we still owe $5000 on. we do not feel it is safe enough put our children in or anyone else. *tr

2003 saturn vue w/ vti purchased july 30, 2003. reported problems with transmission to dealer on 12/14/05. dealer replaced original transmission at that time. mileage was 59,721 at time transmission was replaced. on 5/1/09 when exiting the freeway, the engine started to shudder and jerk as if not getting power. i was able to pull into a parking lot and put the car in park. when i tried to put the car back into gear, it would no longer engage the drive or rear gears. after having the car towed and checked out, i have been advised must get a new transmission. this current transmission only has 78,000 miles on it. *tr

Own a 2003 saturn vue and have had nothing but problems with the transmission. we took it in for a recall in 2005 and they claimed they fixed it. a year later we had to take it back in to have the same problem fixed and paid for it since it was not under warranty. currently we are unable to drive the vue due to the same problem the trans is completely out and saturn will not replace it, instead they want $9000 to repair the trans. the only sympathy we get is oh 2003 vues have bad trans in them. so we are now stuck with a car that does not run in our driveway wondering what to do with it. every auto shop we take it to does not want to fix it because of the type of trans that it is or they tell us we have to take it to the dealer because it is dealer trademarked for the parts. i used to love saturn and tell everyone they were the best and i will always own and buy saturn products. since all the problems and the lack of help from saturn i no longer talk them up ,but tell everyone i know to never buy saturn because you will get junk and they will not help you in anyway. *tr

This is a continuation of the complaint that i filed yesterday (# 10265132). i am the guy who lives in las vegas. i got my car back from saturn last thursday with a brand new transmission in it. when i started my car and was about to leave the dealership i heard a grinding noise that was never present before so i told saturn to take it back and fix it again. they were not able to hear the sound and gave the car back to me the next day (friday 04/10/09). i drove the car home (about 4 miles) and did not drive it until i went to work on monday (04/13/09). work is 15 miles away. when i left work i was sitting at a stop light with my car in drive and my foot on the brake only! without warning the car lunged forward like as if i were to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor. i was inches from hitting the car in front of me. i put the car into neutral and the engine temp went dead cold. then i put it back into drive and the temp when back to where it was before. this happened once more before the light turned green. i got on the freeway and my car did not feel right (very sluggish). i had to push the gas pedal about 3/4 of the way to the floor for the car to move more than just a little. the engine noise was back even louder than before. i made it to the dealer but they were closed for the day so i left my car over night. the next day my wife dropped me off at the dealership. i needed to pull my car into the service bay so i started my car but just turning the key but not pressing on the gas pedal and the engine revved to over 3000 rpm. i put the car in reverse and the car did not move. i noticed that my daytime running lights were flashing. the more gas i gave the car the faster the daytime lights would flash on and off. the saturn mechanic test drove my car and used some instrument plugged under the dash. he came back from the drive and told me that it was my transmission again! this is my 4th transmission in the last 1 1/2 year. *tr

I own a 2003 saturn vue that i bought new from the dealer in october of 2002. i just got my car back from the dealer last friday with the 3rd transmission that has been installed in the car in the last 1 1/2 years. this is due to the issue that everyone has been reporting with the vti transmissions. since the car is on it's 4th transmission (i am counting the one that came with it when i got it new) i am concerned that i will be out of luck when my mileage reaches 100,000 miles. saturn said they would not cover any issues with the transmission after 100,000 miles even though i bought the car new. i was left stranded the 1st time, my wife and 3 kids were stranded the 2nd time (we live in las vegas and this was in the summer when it was about 115 degrees). the last time (this last week) the service engine light soon came on and i was able to get to the dealership before i broke down. you can image how happy i was when i found out that the reason for the service light was my transmission! i am honestly very easy on this car, i have never floored it or driven at really high rpm's. i want this on record so that when the day comes (and i believe that it will) when saturn completely turns it back on me and i have to sue them in order to get my car fixed that i am a good car owner (as i am sure most of you are) who took really good care of my car and only had it serviced at the dealer. saturn should make this right and fix these transmissions. why am i now on my 4th transmission? why did they not fix this issue. i really hope that someone from the nhtsa investigates this issue! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 saturn vue. while driving less than 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the manufacturer could not assist because there were no recalls listed for the failure. the contact found numerous complaints online that were similar to her failure. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were less than 75,000.

*tr

I have bought a 2003 saturn vue from ebay on july the 3rd, 2008 and was delivered to me on the 21st of july, when i received the vehicle it had a grinding noise, i did not know what that was until it broke down, the vehicle had no warning of this problem. i had a mechanic to look at it and stated it was a transmission failure vehicle vin # 2.2 liter with a cvt-i transmission which can only be purchased by the manufacturer can not be rebuilt with an outrageous price the vehicle has 95,000 miles on which no longer has warranty. as i was driving the vehicle which no sign of prior problem started to make a knocking and grinding noise as the vehicle was struggling upon the hill, i pulled over to safety on the side of the road prior to the stop. the engine was still running but the vehicle would not move. someone helped me push it to the side and stated there may be a transmission problem with it. i got it towed to aamco where the mechanic confirm that this transmission was hard to find only through its manufacturer and the cost of $4,000.00. now, i am unemployed, single mother how could something like this be possible to top it off an additional $2500.00 service charge that vehicle is a piece of trash i need help. the warranty is only to 75k miles on it. please help me get some type of satisfaction to a running vehicle to help me find a job. *tr

Transmission/axle failed suddenly. driving at 65mph on interstate at night when car suddenly quit moving as if it went into neutral. engine continued to run but car would not move. coasted to a stop on interstate after nearly getting hit several times. state trooper came by and car was towed away. i had 4 year child in car and our safety, and others, was in doubt because of this sudden failure. saturn said transaxle was bad and repair is over $5000! but cannot get a new one or parts since gm has quit making the transaxle! this is same model that had an extended warranty on transaxle because of numerous complaints on transaxle that i was not notified of. saturn will not repair or anything because car is over 6 years old. same car that had numerous complaints on rear wheel bearings that i had replaced that saturn wouldn't repair. also never received recall notices of something with the rear axle or any notices after i purchased car new. car is unsafe to drive on highway and gm won't repair it because the transaxle is defective. car is a 2003 saturn vue. *tr

The car was running fine with no issues for the past 2 years. my pregnant wife was driving me to work on sunday october 19th with my 2 year old daughter in the rear seat of the car. we stopped at a stop light, when she hit the gas to go once the light turned green the car traveled about 30 feet without a problem, then with no warning the car stopped and the engine revved, we were almost rear ended by the line of cars behind us. and me and my family were left sitting in the middle of the intersection during rush hour. i had to get out of the car and push it to the side of the road. i feel this is a very unsafe problem. i brought the car to saturn dealership, they are willing to replace the transmission with a rebuilt unit with the vti. i am concerned that these transmission are so unreliable that the next time this issue happens my family or myself may be hurt. *tr

Letter emailed to saturn corporation, 09/13/2008 dear saturn customer service, re: 2003 saturn vue friday, september 13, 2008, i was on my way to work and the service engine soon light and decreased power light came on. after contacting the local saturn, it was suggested to have my vue towed. so, i had my car towed to the nearest saturn dealership, cavendar, in san antonio, texas. today, saturday, september 13, 2008, a dealership representative called me that they have to wait until monday, september 15, 2008 to contact someone at saturn in regard to a possible transmission failure. after reading so many complaints about the transmission used in the 2003 saturn vue, does the saturn corporation / general motors have a recall to repair these transmissions. my car is at about 65,000 miles. i bought an extended warranty at the time of this new car purchase in 2003. the warranty only lasted for a total of 5 years or 75,000 miles. the five years ended in approximately march of 2008. after reading so many complaints about the transmission used in the 2003 saturn vue, does the saturn corporation / general motors have a recall to repair these transmissions? i hope that saturn really does care about their customers. sincerely, steven weidner, saturn vue owner, san antonio, texas september 13, 2008. *tr

Purchased 2003 saturn vue 12 months ago. 4 months after owning it, the mileage exceeded the 83,000 mile warranty and the vehicles transmission went out leaving me stranded on a back road in florida, by myself. im a travel nurse, i was out of state at the time. it cost me 150.00 to tow it and 250.00 for saturn to look at it, they wanted 6000.00 to fix it. a small dealership fixed the vti transmission in it and it lasted another 12000 miles. it is again broke down. i owe 10000 on the car and saturn wont recall the vehicle even though they know they have left 1000s of customers out. i have worked all my life to maintain my credit now thanks to saturn it will be ruined. yet they have millions of dollars and they cant help us out. thanks saturn. *tr

3 months after purchasing the vehicle used, the transmission went out as i went up a hill. after a few hours of sitting it worked again so i took it to a dealer. i had purchased a powertrain warranty so repairs were covered, but the mechanic told me that there had been problems with this make/model/year. this occurred at about 55,000 miles. now about a year later at 86,000 miles and just over the warranty limits, the transmission has trouble engaging when i put it into drive. i have since done some searching on the internet and found that this is very common yet there has been no recall. *tr

2003 saturn vue, purchased 11/2002. now starting to stall periodically when shifting into reverse, only 48,000 miles and terribly noisy, grinding sound when slowing and starting. had kept letter from saturn dated 3/2004 extending warranty for faulty vti transmission, only good for 5years after purchase or 75,000 miles. after viewing all of the customer complaints on the internet where transmissions have failed between 50-60,000 miles. this should have been a recall. i'm unfortunately outside of my 5 year period for assistance in repairs. *tr

Hey - i purchased a 2003 saturn vue in feb, 2008, around may 1st the transmission died on it. since then i have researched and found that so many people have had this problem. which gm will not call a recall on these transmission. they are so bad that you can not find a wrecked saturn so you can get the transmission out to replace mine. you can get a refurbished one from saturn for $4,500.00. to me with the problems that i have read about gm should have a recall on the transmission. gm knows that these transmission are defected because they are not using them anymore. i would appreciate it if you could at least tell me the steps i will need to take to try and get a recall on this type transmission. thanks. *tr

The transmission on my 2003 saturn vue failed at only 66000 miles. this is one of those vti variable transmissions with all of the problems where gm had to extend the warranty. mine is partially covered, but i'm still out a couple thousand out-of-pocket. gm should have recalled all of these transmissions and replaced them with a standard automatic. they are no longer produced due to quality problems. why hasn't nhtsa acted on this? a simple internet search shows hundreds of problems with this transmission. *tr

My 2003 saturn vue with vti transmission is basically a piece of junk!!! i have had 3 transmissions in 13 months and saturn still charges me for labor! they only give me a 12,000 mile warranty even though they know their transmission design is at fault. they refuse to accept responsibility for their colossal mistake and their solution was to offer me a whopping 4 free oil changes! like that makes up for a $7000 transmission! they knew it was a bad design and still shafted people, they should go to jail for their actions and now should be held 100% liable for the hassles all of us who purchased this vehicle have had! *tr

The vehicle was riding smoothly on the interstate. the vehicle after 25 miles of highway travel suddenly decreased in speed. at the same time the transmission responded with a load continual roar. i was on the interstate and i was able to avoid an accident and make it to the median without injury. i had the vehicle towed the remaining 30 miles at a total cost of $120.00. i was told by the repair technician that it would take $5,583.00 to replace the transmission that was unable to be repaired. the saturn dealership quoted the repair at $6,000.00. i currently owe $7,800.00 on the price of the vehicle purchased 2 years ago. the car is under the 5 year warranty mark but has 93,500 which falls short of the extended transmission warranty. i am unable to afford to repair it and will not since i've heard stories of others needing to replace the transmission 2 years later. i can't sell the car for 2 reasons. the 1st i don't want to pass the problem on to someone else. the 2nd i still have a note on the loan and the highest offer the saturn dealer will give us is $1,500 with or without a new transmission. i am not in a financial position to have 2 car notes with 1 car. i do not no what else to do. *tr

2003 saturn vue vti trans. problems with the transmission, sounds, slipping, disengaging. went into saturn dealer several times, each time i was told that the sounds were normal, common to all vti's, and the slipping was traction control. they did not note any of my complaints into their computer. when i talked to them no one mentioned or notified me of any known problems, nor did they notify me that the trans. warranty for the vue had been increased to 5yr/75,000mi. i would have brought the car in for service!recently i found out about several service bulletins in 2004, i was not notified of any. since i could not afford the costs for repair, i limped along with my vue,for as long as i could, sometimes in rather dangerous situations, until the trans. failed. after getting the work done he told me that he was sure it would happen again soon. the problem started up again that very night!check web sites like-http://www.carsurvey.org and http://www.saturnfans.com and read descriptions abt. saturn vue vti trans. describing the exact problems i had. this is not just my problem, this is an epidemic and saturn has known about it for a long time and they are not doing anything. fresno saturn dealer never registered us or our purchase with saturn corporate. some of them have nearly gotten killed, including me as power was lost as i was exiting parking lots into traffic. the mechanics, now that my car is outside of warranty, told me about known problems with vti trans. they told me before they even looked at the car, that i needed a new trans. it is defective from manufacturer. when i went in,i saw 4-5 saturn vues(vti's) all in lined up in a row for service. i was told all of those were in for trans. problems(some people have put up to 4 trans. in their 2002-2004 vti vues. apparently it is being replaced with the same type trans. i've read that several people have nearly been killed, why has there been no safety recalls!!! does somebody have to die before someone does something about this! *tr

My son had my 2003 vue at the dealer for service engine soon light. dealer advised it was a thermostat and they needed to order the part. my son was told it was okay to drive. the next day he went to go to a friends house and it made a grinding, whine noise. it then wouldn't go up a hill. finally got it home ( less than a quarter mile) and it wouldn't go into reverse. took it to a private transmission shop and they said the transmission had blown apart. the car only had 59,000 miles on it. had a used transmission installed for 2,500.00. a new one would cost 5500 and rebuilt 3500. piece of junk... why doesn't some one make the dealer recall this junker? *tr

Saturn 2003 vue with vti transmission was purchased new in 10/02. at 76,000 miles when accelerating to get on highway, the rpm's were roaring and the speedometer was dropping. pulled on shoulder and was able to drive car at 30 mph a few miles to the saturn creve coeur dealer, who met us getting out of the car, and told us he could not even look at our car to go somewhere else! drove sides streets 30 mph to south county saturn dealer where purchased. after test driving they stated they thought the range switch was bad. no longer under extended warranty it would cost $452 to replace. after read about others complaints on this site, and having never heard of a range switch i am leary of spending the $452 only to have them tell me the next time it happens that the transmission will need to be replaced. recently had problems with ignition sticking when turning the key. they told me it was some switch then too and the next day it did the same thing. then i was told that i needed a whole new ignition after they held the key and ground it down! i do not trust them. car has not had a problems the past few days. i will never buy another saturn! *tr

November saturday 10th, 2007, my 2003 saturn vue made a grinding noise, i heard a pop then it stopped in the middle of an intersection. the engine was still running, but the car would not go forward or backward. i put the car in neutral and coasted down the hill to park it. i called saturn and described the situation. they said it sounded like the transmission. i had it towed to saturn of renton. november 13th the service department called and said that the problem was the transmission belt. i said ok, so put a new belt on. the service person said, well the transmission is shattered. i said how on earth did that happen?! he told me that the transmission belts in the 2003 saturn vue's are metal, so when they break, they shatter the entire transmission. i said, so there is a flaw in the design of the transmission then. he said, yes, i see a lot of these. he told me it would cost $5,500.00 plus tax to fix it. i called the saturn company customer service line. i opened a formal case and was assigned to an advocate. that person called me on november 15th and said that because it is a flaw in the design of the transmission, they would honor the extended warranty, which only takes $1,000.00 off of the repairs. i said that wasn't good enough, saturn needed to pay the full cost to get it fixed. my advocate said that was all saturn would do, and i had 30 days to decide if i would accept. saturn will do nothing to correct this failure. they even insulted yesterday (dec. 11th) when they said they would give me only $500.00 on my saturn vue as the trade-in value! they said because of the $5,000.00 transmission job that had to be done in order to resell it. i said that transmission job was caused by something your company did, not me...so now saturn is saying, in essence, 'we screwed you over once, and now we are going to screw you over again'. it isn't going to happen saturn...i'd rather take it to a junk yard that give it back to you people!!!!! *tr

Without warning, the vue suddenly came to a dead crawl while accelerating and was almost t-boned. vue practically died but the engine revved real high. engine light and reduced power light were on. got the vue to crawl home another mile. later, i started the car and there were no warning lights. test drove around the block with no problem drove vue to o'reilly auto parts and used code scanner. the code scanner (autoxray code scout 2500) displayed the following messages; engine light off, p1882 = ratio control performance, p0701 = transmission control system, range/performance, p0700 = transmission control system malfunction. later, it happened again. suddenly while accelerating and without warning i had no power. engine was still running, engine light and reduced power light came on. no power and was right in the middle of traffic, almost rear ended. picked up code scanner again and took to vehicle. connected the scanner and read the same codes as above. this time transmission was completely disabled. towed vue to south county saturn in st louis. the dealer called next day and said there is nothing wrong and there are no codes. dealer said they must have codes in order to repair problem. (there are no specific codes that will display regarding the problem. when transmission fails codes are too broad and do not indicate specific problem. there are no sensors inside the transmission that monitor the actual problems. i insisted that they test drive the car. reluctantly, they had a technician drive the vehicle home for the rest of the week. later they said they put an additive in the transmission as per their technical bulletin and then the technician began taking the car home. the problem is the additive will temporarily fix the problem. of course the transmission will not fail during the week long test drive. they called today and said we have to pick up the car and that the transmission is fine. now the car is a ticking time bomb waiting for the next failure. *tr

After regular preventative maintenance, 2003 saturn vue has continuously experienced transmission problems from 70,000k point on. vehicle drops gear (often in busy traffic, at intersections, occasionally while just traveling down a road at 30-40 mph), does not shift into higher gear (causing sudden loss of speed during highway travel), makes loud grinding noises while turning and accelerating and otherwise fails to operate properly. recently had vehicle serviced ($1,000 in charges) and was told that modular was cracked and transmission fluid needed replacement. problems continue after servicing. have read extensive reports and complaints involving saturn vue vt1 transmission. saturn needs to have a recall - it's consumers can't afford all of these repairs for what is clearly a faulty transmission that has been discontinued!*jb

Saturn of manchester has advised us that saturn is no longer utilizing the vti transmission in any of their awd 4 cyl. saturn vehicles, because the transmission just did not work out. we have had problems with this transmission in our vehicle. however, as the vehicle gets older, it seems to require more and more transmission service. the 100,000 mile extended warranty we purchased ourselves is now almost over. as seniors living on a fixed income, we thought this automobile would last us for more than only 100,000 miles. who would buy it knowing about the transmission? we think this problem makes this model a lemon from the beginning. we have read so many complaints about the vti transmission on this vue. we read that over 88,000 were sold. the only thing saturn has done, is extend the original warranty from 36000 to 75000 miles. saturn claims to have all american parts, but this transmission seems to have been made in hungary. there is in progress a class action suite being formed against saturn for using the vti transmission. we found the following online: 26th mar 2007, 07:15 there is current a class action case under review in madison co, il for the awd 2.2 saturn vue transmission. if you email or phone us, we will give you the attorney's email address, phone number, and name of the investigator and his phone number. we pursued it and have been in touch with the investigator at the law firm. he claims that he now has just about enough claims in enough states to file a class action case against saturn corporation. would you please be kind enough to look into this problem asap. see if this is true or not and let us know if we can claim our car as a lemon or get some kind of compensation? just yesterday, the saturn service had to replace half of the vti transmission and gave us a 12,000 mile warranty on it. this warranty does us no good because we still have 13,000 miles of warranty on our warranty we purchased ourselves, so they overlap. *tr

Vti transmission has a propensity to reduce power when wheels slip. if pulling out into an intersection, when engine rpms drop there is a chance for being broadsided by vehicles. we've had several near misses. driver is never quite sure if the power will be available to safely enter traffic or cross intersection. this reduction in power can result from a light dusting of snow to slippery crosswalk painted lines, to dirt, gravel or oil on roadway. *jb

The vti transmission in my 2003 saturn vue has failed repeatedly and without warning, usually on highways at high speeds. suddenly, the transmission will disengage and the car cannot be driven. saturn has now fixed the problem five times in 38,000 miles and most recently admitted that it did not know why this failure occurred and did not know if the repairs it made would fix the problem. the incident date noted below is the most recent date this occurred. when these incidents occur, sometimes the transmission will reset after turning the car off and restarting it. but other times, the vehicle has required towing to the dealership. we are concerned about the ongoing safety and reliability of this car, as the consequences of one of these unannounced failures could be catastrophic. so far, we have been lucky that no injury or accident has occurred. *nm

I purchased my 2003 awd v6 vue new from the same dealership that i take it to for repairs. since i have owned it, i have reported several times that the vehicle stalls while accelerating. usually around 40 mph. the rpm's rev up (to the red) and the car goes nowhere, like it has suddenly shifted into neutral. this happens while accelerating after a stop. needless to say, i have had several incidents where i was almost rear-ended. i feel the dealership is trying to resolve the problem, but have been unable to get it to repeat. we are now looking at having one of the service tech drive it for a week or two to see if they can get it to occur. it happens to me at least 3-6 times a month, but intermittently. i do not have a vti transmission. i have two other problems with my vue that have been unable to be fixed; the first is the steering/alignment. if i hold the steering wheel straight on, the car goes to the left. the dealership will fix the alignment, and within 2 days it off again. i have to steer to the right to keep the vehicle straight. it has never been involved in a wreck and i can see no reason for the alignment to go off so quickly. secondly, the car makes a loud popping sound when idling if the a/c or heater is on. the dealership says this is normal. it just doesn't seem right. the vents also blow air when the system is off. my vue has 46,001 miles. i stand behind the vehicle and my dealership. i just wish they could figure out what is causing it to rev out the way it does. it is quite alarming when it happens. *nm

I have a 2003 saturn vue awd v6 vin 5gzcz63b33s874854. when i had bought this vehicle there was a popping sound in the front drive-train while turning at any speed. i was about to purchase another vue from a used car dealership, but upon reading the car facts report it was a 'factory buy back' for an un-fixed popping sound in the front end subsequently i did not purchase this vehicle. the other day i was out fishing down a dirt road i had passed my favorite spot so i had to make a 3 point turn on the uneven road, i turned the wheel all the way to the left and the front left tire went into a pot hole, i put it into reverse giving it gas while turning the wheel to the right and heard a sound pop!-cruuunch! after a quick field inspection it looked like the cv boot came loose and lost all the grease . so i drove it real slow back home and after taking the tire off i saw that there was metal shavings, bearings, pieces ect. on the front left axle. saturn told me they would take care of it through the warranty an i am still awaiting the return of my vehicle. it is to my belief that this is an often occuring problem. should this happen to someone who did not realize the seriousness of the problem death could result from hard braking or evasive manuvering with this existing condition to the axle.

From the beginning of the warranty transmission has continued to make horribly loud and annoying grinding and whirring sounds that continue to get worse and worse. i have had the transmission in 8 times and the problem remains. when attempting to evoke the lemon law, both corporate and the dealer were extremely belligerant and uncooperative--denying that any problem existed. this is despite the fact that the transmission problem was so severe that saturn stopped production on the vue with cti transmission and has made the decision not to continue to use it after this year's model end. immediatgely upon evoking the lemon law, not only did corporate refuse to honor it, but orporate told the local dealership not to have anything to do with fixing my car without their approval.*ak

Second complaint: attempting to leave work, at busy intersection attempted to pull into intersection. vue hesitated, dropped all power, rpm's stuck at about 4000 again, had accelerator pushed to the floor and it acted like it was stalling and would barely move. did this for approximately 20 seconds before it finally started accelerating again. luckily other drivers came to a stop and avoided hitting me. the saturn vue with vti is a danger ! the only fix saturn has for it is to flush the transmission, recalibrate and add transmission additive. this only helps for about a week or so and it starts again. i can not park in gravel, dirt or grass because the transmission will shut down and it will not go in drive. i can not park on anything more than a 4% incline or the transmission will shut down and it will not move in drive. these vehicles need recalled as they pose a serious safety hazard on the highway. my daughter and i have narrowly escaped accidents 3 times in this vehicle !*ak

'03 saturn vue 4 vti purchased 6/03. soon after, failed to go in drive at work. would go in reverse but not move in drive. saturn garage (less than a mile from my employer) & service manager & a tech. came & drove in reverse until finally went in drive. took to garage. they flushed the transmission & top off fluids. took vehicle home & later leaving work, car was stuck & would not go in drive. it did not move & front wheels did not turn. coworkers pushed me until it started to move sluggish in drive. it sputtered down the road to the garage. each time i tried to accelerate from a stop the car would hesitate, almost stall for several seconds & rmp's stuck at 4000. they flushed the transmission, recalibrated & added transmission additive. i took the car home & while i was pulling into the busiest intersection in north central wv it failed to accelerate, rpm's stuck at 4000 & sputtered thru the intersection at 10 mph, other vehicles had to brake hard to avoid a rear end collision. i was scared & daughter was crying in the back as other drivers blew horns & gave obscene gestures. back to garage the next morning. transmission flushed, recalibrated, additive added. 7/18/04 on a busy highway in pa (interstate 279) during heavy traffic, tried to accelerate, rpm's stuck at 4000, slowed to 50mph & other vehicles slammed on brakes behind me. had accelerater to floor & it sputtered for 1mile at 50mph. pumped accelerator several times, finally came out of 4000rpm & started to regain speed. i had to pull off the road to regain composure before continuing on. 8/10/04, i have another appt. to have transmission looked at. i am afraid to drive this car. contacted saturn & georgia mcconville of customer assistance center contacted the local service dept. she advised in her reply we need to give ron (service manager) the opportunity to address any issues you are currently having. certainly if this visit does not address the concern please do not hesitate to contact us. *ak

I have had several problems with my 2003 vue. first, the vti transmission seems to hesitate and or slip when accelerating. this has happened on several occasions at different speeds, it comes and goes. it also seems louder that it should be with clicking noises, especially when cold. i took the car to the dealer to make sure everything was ok, i was told there was nothing wrong. second, the horn is very hard to use, my wife does not like to drive it because she does mostly city driving and needs a horn. it's not broken, just very difficult to use and i think a potential hazard. finally there are many other sqeaks and rattles that drive me crazy. the headliner around the sunroof on the drivers side rattles a lot. also the rear trunk/liftgate squeeks and after closer examination i saw that the inside plastic was coming apart from the rear trunk/liftgate. i pushed it back together, but i think it loosens everytime i close the trunk/liftgate. nothing has been done to the vehicle concerning these problems. *al

I recently purchased a 2003 saturn vue. unfortunately shortly there after i heard about problems with their ctv or vti automatic transmissions. this transmission developed by honda uses a drive belt through pulleys for its operation. if this belt fails the transmission will not function at all, because the drive system stops.obviously this is a very serious safety issue if the belt snaps your car comes to a complete stop.whether city or higheway driving its a dangerous thing. its unsettling and at this point i feel unsafe driving the car. saturn was concerned enough to halt production of this transmission until it was remedied.saturn has extended the warranty on this transmission which is a nice gesture but the fact is i know longer feel safe driving this vehicle with my children in it and i think if they have found away to fix this problem and it was serious enough for them to stop production till they found it, well then this situation demands a recalll so everyone can benefit all 82,000 of us and not have to worry about there vehicles coming to a dead stop while on the highway.this problem which has been reported in the ny times and ny newsday as i will show you the newsday story. ny newsday april 30, 2004 saturn transmission fix general motors says it has fixed problems with the continuously variable transmission it uses in the saturn ion and vue and is offering an extended warranty to ease buyers' fears -- from three years/36,000 miles to five years/75,000 miles. gm yanked the fuel-saving gearbox from production in january because of durability problems with the steel belt inside the gearbox that connects to pulleys. installation of the cvt resumed in march on the ion coupe and should resume in may with the vue suv. the new warranty covers all cvt-equipped saturns produced since the summer of 2002, a total of about 82,000.*ak

I have had my 2003 vue for about 1 1/2 years. in that time i have had an unexplainable rattle in the head liner, design flaw in the sunroof/moonroof, gas guage sensor replaced, thermostat replaced, slipping transmission, flame outs when trying to start the engine resulting in flooding, jumping to the right at acceleration from a stop, heat blowing out of the vents during the summer when the fan is shut off and temp is on cold, and this week a dazzling display of indicator lights and guages and dash lights randomly turning on and off with the eventual loss of power steering. and i thought my transmission issues with my tahoe were bad? we purchased the vue for our daughter to drive when she turns 16. i feel that this car will not be safe for her to drive. i am very concerned with stories i am hearing about the airbags failing, abs failing, steering failing. this could be fatal for an inexperienced driver.*ak

My saturn vue has a vibration/shudder at various speeds which is caused by a problem with the vti transmission and which started at about 6,600 miles. this is a well-known problem with the vehicle and transmission. called my dealer and he offered to replace the transmission since so many vti transmissions have failed. the dealer said that they have replaced about 6 vti transmissions already (and that's only one dealer) so probably hundreds ot vti transmissions have had to be replaced nationwide. my vue has had two recalls for the vti--including replacement of bolts and a software upgrade. the constantly variable transmission (vti) has been a problem transmission ever since it was introduced in the new 2002 vue and hundreds of owners have had problems. the vti tranmission was delayed several times because of pre-production problems. now thousands of saturn vue owners have many transmission problems, including on-the-road transmission failures which is dangerous. this is a proven defective transmission which has an impact on safety as well as resale value and/or saleability of the vehicle. saturn needs to either buy back those vue's with vti' transmissions or offer to replace the vehicle with a non-vti transmission model. *ak

This is the second complaint i have had to file. this car keeps breaking down on me and it is not even one year old! on 1/12/04 i needed to drive to rocky mount, nc then on to roanoke rapids, nc school. after arriving in rocky mount, my car would not go into gear, but started fine. when i attempted to put the car in gear the care stalled and turned off. i then attempted to start my car again and place it into gear one more time. it started and went into gear and seemed to drive fine. i called saturn of greenville and they told me that the battery is likely to be the problem and to not turn my car off for one hour, i then stated that i would continue to drive to roanoke rapids. after arriving at my final destination, my car again stalled and turned off when i placed it into gear. i had to get my car towed and get a rental car which were both huge inconveniences to me. finally, on 1/16/04, i called saturn to find out what was wrong with my car and they said that air was trapped in the transmission line and that during the repair process, damage was done to a drain bolt (stripped). i was then told i could pick my car up on 1/17/04. after getting my car back, it is still making a grinding noise in the steering column when i turn the steering wheel, it makes weird noises constantly, and the rpms are messed up. they rev up when i tap the pedal, but when i need to accelerate, they do nothing. something is seriously wrong with the saturn vue and their transmissions need to be recalled! *la

I detected a roar/rubbing sound in the engine or drive train when the car was in park or neutral. i called saturn of greenville (nc) and was told to bring the care in to be checked. i did this and was told that the care sounded normal, to continue driving the car, and to bring it back if it got worse. the roaring/rubbing noise continued to become worse. i again took the care in for evaluation by the service manager of saturn of greenville on 12/26/03. this time, at my suggestion, the technician accompanied me on a test drive and was able to hear the noise. the service manager also heard the noise. i informed the service manager that i planned to take a trip to florida the next day and did not feel comfortable driving my car. he told me that he did not believe that the noise was serious nor was the car dangerous to drive, and that no further damage would be done to my car if i drove it to florida. i asked that he put this in writing and if i could speak to the owner. the owner agreed to provide me with another car and to fix mine. i was told that there was a problem with a belt in the transmission rubbing against the trans-case, which was what was causing the noise. i received my car back on 1/10/04. *la

Consumer drove 2003 saturn vue with the variable speed transmission on a dirt road which led to the top of chelan butte, in chelan county on july 6, 2003. this was a frequently used road because the top of the butte was used to launch hang gliders. consumer had driven on the same road with 1986 audi, the previous day july 5, 2003, and it completed the climb with no problems. the saturn vue almost stalled in negotiating any grade above 5%. transmission would reduce the rpms to 1500 and below while being driven with foot to the floor, asking for more power. there was no response. then, suddenly a very low ratio would allow the engine to rev to over 2000 rpms, only to repeat this cycle at the next turn or grade. the factory and dealer have maintained that transmission was operating as designed. consumer contended that having transmission control the speed of the car was actually a car out of control. could have easily stalled with no way to continue up the grade. vehicle was carrying 4 passengers on the incident date. after taking the car to the dealer, who did nothing to the transmission, consumer took it up the butte alone as an unloaded vehicle. it repeated the above three times in the course of 5 miles. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 saturn vue which was purchased in december 2002. she stated that there were numerous failures with the vehicle. while driving approximately 6 mph through a brush-less car wash, water entered into the sun roof housing. on a separate occasion, she also smelled oil burning and the dealer replaced the right inner cv joint boot. the hazards lights failed to operate normally and were repaired twice due to repeat failures. when she engaged the hazard switch, it collapsed into the dashboard console. the service engine soon light illuminated and the dealer stated that the thermostat failed and it was replaced. all repairs were made to the vehicle per the warranty. the rear lateral link assembly recall number 04067001 2002-2004 vue rear suspension recall was also replaced. the driver's side window would not close; however, the driver's side switch was replaced. the fuel gauge indicated the improper level of fuel that was in the fuel tank; although, the fuel sending units were replaced. all of the repairs made to the vehicle have failed more than once. the horn would also operate intermittently on its own. the dealer found a shortage in the body control module and replaced the operating design system which forced the mechanic to reprogram the keys to the vehicle. the valve cover gasket failed a second time when the contact smelled oil burning. there were no related recalls for most of the other failed components. the failure mileage was 14,002 and the current mileage was 70,501.

York pa> saturn has patched up my 2003 vue by replacing valves, sensors etc. which they know will not fix the problem. after regular preventive maintenance, 2003 saturn vue has continuously experienced transmission problems from 10,000 point on. vehicle while just traveling down a road at 30-40 mph), does not shift properly into higher gear , makes loud grinding noises while turning and accelerating and otherwise fails to operate properly transmission was looked at by dealer several times avoiding the issue of transmission replacement. problems continue after servicing. have read extensive reports and complaints involving saturn vue vt1 transmission. saturn needs to have a recall - it's consumers can't afford all of these repairs for what is clearly a faulty transmission that has been discontinued! next step is class action suit by owners!!!!!!!!!! think about all of these unhappy people when sales get tough saturn??? all i ask is for gm/saturn to replace my faulty drive train (engine and transmission) free of all labor and parts with the new type drive train that is in the new 2007-08 vue !!! *tr

2003 saturn vue, awd, v6,upon pulling out of intersection, accelerating, automatic transmission not up shifting on accelerating. loss of power. engine accels but vehicle movement slows. transmission does not engage. dealership states that the computer needs to be dummied up. vehicle is not use to a different driver. can not pull out of intersection fast. good car for very very slow person.. not vti transmission. dealership has dummied up computer many times. seems to help for a while but after a while we are just use to acceleration slow to let the transmission shift before applying additional gas pedal. rear drive unit grinding on turning. dealer states that this a known problem and has a kit ready with all parts needed to make the repairs in the rear end unit. price is over $1000.00... i was not reimbursed for any costs. failure on rear unit occurred at 70,000 miles. vehicle purchased new and my wife drove, till 75,000 miles. now i am driving the vue and i would like to accelerate a little more quickly out of some intersection. spark plug failed at 50,000 miles. they are to last to 100,000 miles. very expensive repair to replace the spark plug, have to tear off the top end of intake manifold to get to it. many expensive replacement gaskets had to be replaced and the labor also. i used my personal certified mechanic to save some money. bad design. *tr

I have brought my car back a total of 5 times to saturn of morristown with a complaint of a shimmy/shudder in the car at highway speeds. initially the complaint was from 50-75 but after their 4th fix, the shudder began at 45a nd was really bad at 65. saturn is in its final attempt to fix the car, denies the car is a lemon, has told me saturn knows of the problem with the car but has tried every fix and then some and my car won't respond to any fixes and that they can't fix the car yet they refuse to buy it back claiming they are within their alloted time as a final fix. february 15 is the 12th consecutive day without my car and the 24th cumulative day. they will not contact me, i always have to be the one to contact them and the woman i am speaking with at saturn at the customer care center refuses to allow me to speak to anyone else. the shimmy/shudder has been in the car since day one and every time they gave it back to me they said it was road tested good yet i could immediately upon reaching highway speeds feel the shudder. i don't understand how they could have given it back to me 4 times saying it was good and yet keep it for this length of time and refuse to acknowledge it as *aka lemon considering they know of the inherent defect.*ak

The headlight and daytime run lights burn out when it rains... instead of finding out the cause of the problem is, the dealer just replaces the bulbs and sends me on my way. the following rainy day, there i am back at the dealer with the same problem. so far this will be the third time, not including the problems with the drivetrain/rear diff that had to be replaced, the dash and cabin rattles that none can seem to fix, and the transmission that once left me stranded at a stop sign. *la

2003 saturn vue had a partially melted transmission drive shaft boot. *nj the consumer stated when his wife attempted to start the vehicle, it would not turn over. a few minutes later, there as a loud explosion from under the hood. the consumer ran out and discovered smoke coming from under the vehicle. after several tries of trying to get the vehicle to start, it finally started but it would shut off. on the eighth try, the consumer was able to keep the vehicle running by pumping the accelerator. the vehicle would not maintain a steady rpm. the vehicle had no power brakes and the rpm continued to move from 2000 to 3000 and when the consumer stopped the vehicle, it did not idle. the brakes finally became active and the rpm was steady. the consumer stated the problem that caused the damaged had not been diagnosed. the consumer had another mishap with the vehicle. the consumer's wife smelled something electrical and then the service engine light illuminated. there was difficulty starting the vehicle. the next day, when the consumer attempted to start the vehicle, it didn't start and again it backfired with a loud pop. the consumer put his hand under the right bottom side near the catalytic converter and there was black grease on the underside. the consumer stated there seems to be a problem with having a rubber boot with grease next to the catalytic converter and unprotected without a shield. *jb

I purchased a used 2003 saturn vue 2.2l in 2006. in may 2010 with 95,000 miles on it, it started running rough. i was leaving for work one morning and it died as i left my driveway. called my auto shop and was able to drive it to the shop for diagnosis. the whole way there the service engine soon light was flashing. the diagnosis was that 2 cylinders were misfiring and had failed and that meant the ignition control module needed to be replaced. along with that the spark plugs needed to be replaced because of the damage done by the misfiring. total cost: $350. picked up the car and service engine soon light came on again and was steady. it happened to be memorial day weekend so i couldn't take my car back in right away. took it in on the following wednesday, mind you i got it back on friday night. now it is the downstream o2 sensor, upstream o2 sensor and possibly the catalytic converter. was advised to definitely replace the downstream o2 sensor, but was told that the upstream o2 sensor and catalytic converter could repair themselves after running a while. after finding a recall on my year, make and model called the saturn customer service and was told my vin was not included in the recall and because i had purchased it used they would not replace or help me in any way, shape or fashion. with the same exact issue as the recall, i do not understand why my car would not be included. *tr

Normal driving when manual transmission - without warning - shifter linkage became disconnected, leaving me unable to shift out of the current gear, rendering the car undrivable and leaving me stranded in traffic on a busy street. mechanic reports that this is a known problem on saturns with manual transmissions but that no safety recalls have ever been issued. saturn should be required to fix this problem at no cost to owners and to reimburse people that have experienced this problem and had to pay to get it fixed. *tr

Repeated manual transmission problems. shift cable bindings and clips/adjusters broke, leaving the car undrivable. this has happened twice in less than 4.5 years of ownership. the vehicle had about 15k miles when the first incident occurred, and about 43k miles the second time. the vehicle has always been very difficult to get into gear at times, even after repairs have been done to fix the manual transmission. the shift cables and adjusters have been replaced twice in 4.5 years. *tr

Purchased my saturn vue used in march 2005...at that time i had 6k miles left on the original warranty...in june 2005 took it to my local saturn dealership to take care of all normal issues & get a maint checkup...at that time they replaced the resistor- engine cooling fan (due to blowing hot air when air conditioner was on), head lamp assembly composite on front left (cracked where bolted to frame), obd system upgrade (recall), replacement of rear lateral link assembly (recall), and last the gear shift cable was replaced/adjusted & lubed due to going bad - at that time they never disclosed to me that the gear shift cable had already been replaced 3x's since jan 2003. on dec 24th @ 10:00am...my entire gear shift assembly failed and left me stranded...the car was towed to the dealership that i purchased it from...due to me being 5,000 over my warranty...they were not going to replace it...approx cost of $450. i went directly over to my local dealership....fort wayne, in saturn...a service consultant pulled up the history of my vue and displayed to me that the gear shift had been worked on 4 other times...his service manager stated he would not take care of it due to the warranty had expired & it was not his fault...i called saturn's corporate office informed them of the issue...they informed me that they would get it taken care of with no questions asked...waiting to see what is done...my vehicle is currently at the dealership....as for the service manager @ fw, in saturn dealership...i have heard numerous complaints about how he treats customers from friends that are also saturn owners... 8jb

When stopping the vehicle and sitting still for a few seconds, there is a loud thumping sound (occurring three or four times) from the rear of the vehicle (sounds similar to a loose fuel tank baffle). the dealer stated they weren't aware of any fix for this problem, though they tried a couple of ideas. while i've found this on several websites online, nobody seems to know the cause. everyone seems to live with the problem. it's difficult to diagnose as it seems intermittant, but happens on average once per day. being that this seems to be eminating from the fuel system, i think that saturn should take this issue more seriously, and more than likely this is something they can correct by replacing the fuel tank, i feel that they just don't want that expense. also, i would like to take the opportunity to complain about the horn switch, as it is extremely difficult to operate in a panic situation, which is what it is designed to be used in. lastly, i beleive that nhtsa should investigate the awd system on these vehicles. i've done my own tests and i have to say i am surprised about how easily it is to loose control of the vehicle in light snow. when the rear comes on, if the engine is revving high, it can spin the vehicle around like a top.
