Owner of a 1993 toyota camry with malfunctioning seats belts. one major problem is the rear drivers side of the car retractable seatbelt does not work . i informed toyota of the problem and was told they could not assist in the matter because the belts were out of warranty. belts should last the life of the car not 6 years 60,000 miles like they stated . i have one young child and one on the way. and because of economic hardships cant come up with the almost three hundred dollars required to fix the one belt. i am very upset that even safety comes with a price tag. is there anything that can be done?

I answered 2 for the amount of failures, but this is not correct.all the seat belts in the vehicle do work while driving approximately 20 miles an hour and than quickly applying the brakes they will secure the passenger. the problem i seem to be having is my husband not myself can get our childs car seat tightened with no moving or limited moving. he has been in a 20 to 40 lbs car seat, back center for the last 2 years, and now it is time to move him into the next stage up. none of the seat belts will properly secure the new seat where there is very little movement. i brought the car to toyota, and all they did was confirm all the seat belts worked to their specifications. they could not do anything else i was sadly informed. i have asked them several times for the owners manual, since i did not get one when purchasing the vehicle and was assured i they look for one to give me. i called the salesman a couple of times and they had none to give. the owners manual of the child car seat, explains that if i have followed all their instructions and still cannot get it tight, please refer to the owners manual of the vehicle. i have spend $80.00 on this new car seat, highly recommended for safety. i feel there must something toyota can do to help me figure out how to lock these seat-belts properly, after installing, before the car is put into gear and driven. how can i fully know, that just by applying the brakes, my son's car seat will tighten up. what about a side impact or back-end or even front end accident??? brakes may not even be touched. my husband and i want our child safe in this car. please provide me with some answers if you can. i am desperate for help and toyota as i understand, does not see this vehicle as failing seat belts. we do! *ak

The first time i experienced this problem the car i had owned the car for 12 months. the dealer replaced the rear center seat belt anchor. i assumed that i had a recieved a rare defective seat belt anchor. i felt compelled to report this second failure since i have contacted the dealer and was informed that toyota would not be responsible for the defective anchor, and this maybe more wide spread. i look forward to hearing form you.

The retractor on the right rear selt belt no longer works; when you pull out the seat belt, there is no tension, so it doesn't pull itself back in. we are unable to use our right rear seat for this reason. has there been any sort of recall for this? we have not yet contacted our local dealer. *ak
Driver's restraint does not retract into position. manufacturer has been notified. please provide additional information.*ak
