I have a 1993 toyota camry. on april 2, 2009, we were driving on i-68 e less than 100 from our destination of washington, dc. we were driving around the hills and suddenly, the car started to accelerate unintentionally. the brakes were pressed to the floor but it didn't slow the car but did help so that car didn't accelerate more than the 75+mph. (it had accelerated to from 60-65mph.) we tried to turn the cruise control on and off thinking it was a computer issue but it didn't help and it was off when the incident began. we tried going into neutral but it just revved the engine up into the red, but from there we were going to put it in park, but going from neutral to park we passed through reverse and since the car was accelerating we started taking off in reverse. we ended up perpendicular to oncoming traffic coming around the mountain, but got the engine turned off. we were told that the throttle got stuck; (the wire over the spring mechanism that pulls the throttle wire back if you take your foot off the pedal). it was taken off the retracting mechanism and i haven't had any incidents since. i had noticed the recall of more recent camry's noting the floormats to explain unexpected acceleration. i don't have a floormat in the driver's footwell. i've noticed other accounts on the toyota discussion board of people having unintentional acceleration and not having floormats either. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1993 toyota camry. while driving approximately 55 to 60 mph on normal road conditions and applying pressure to the brake pedal, there was an increase of unintended acceleration. the vehicle also failed to slow down. the driver was forced to drive into traffic to avoid crashing into a vehicle. the contact shifted the gears into the neutral position. the vehicle began shaking excessively, followed by a reduction in speed. the contact safely drove into the emergency lane. the police was notified; however, the vehicle was towed to the residence. the cause of failure has not been determined. the contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. the failure and current mileages were 173,000.

Accelerating at a high rate while in reverse occurred on two separate occasions. *ph on two occasions, when the vehicle was placed in reverse, the vehicle shot back at a very high rate. there were suspicions that an alarm company disabled the relay device that was installed on the vehicle could have been the reason for the problem. toyota claimed to have found no problem. *sc *jb

Accelerator sticks, causing the car to lunge forward when proceeding from stop.

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration while driving on the beltway causing engine to revved to over 5,000 rpms which almost resulted in collision, due to the catching of the fuel throttle linkages exchange to the pcv hose clamp, which stuck on full throttle position. *mjs

Possible design defect - location of pcv hose & clamp to fuel throttle linkages exchange. while accelerating onto highway, accelerator pedal became stuck to floor at full throttle. was stuck for ten minutes. reached 5,000 rpms and 80 mph. avoided fatal crash only because fuel throttle linkages control became dislodged from pcv hose clamp. toyota engineer verified that throttle exchange became stuck on pcv hose clamp.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Driver was pulling into driveway when driver's foot slipped off brake and onto accelerator pedal. vehicle accelerated, hitting house and cracking the foundation. also, causing $4500 dollars worth of damage. driver's side airbag did not deploy, driver sternum cracked. *ak *ml
When applying the accelerator, at intervals the pedal will stick which requires excessive pressure to get the pedal to move, cause unknown. please give further details. *ak
