| Camry gas pedal self-accelerating. we had a toyota camry 1998 (bought in toyota, morristown, nj in feb, 1998). by about 2003, the gas pedal behaved a little funny. when the car was standing still, the gas pedal would not respond when you press on it. but it would jerk and suddenly speed up when you keep pressing on it. the problem was not like the 'popular gas pedal stuck' thing described. we lived with the problem for a few years before the car get crashed and totaled (not for the pedal reason). it was my husband's car, when i occasionally drove it, it's unsafe when i stop for traffic lights, since it suddenly sped up. but my husband was used to it. *tr | |||

| Gas pedal in my 1998 toyota camry becomes harder to press. i have to tap my foot on the pedal to make it works. it works fine for few times and again it becomes hard. this happens everyday. i don't remember exact date when i had noticed this but it has been like that for past three years. i had not register complaint thinking it is just my model but since this has been wide spread in many toyotas i thought i should register my incident too. *tr | |||

| I started smelling gas odors inside of the car after filling the tank. i took the car to the dealer in july 2006 and told them that i also saw gas dripping on the ground. they found nothing. i continued to have the smell. two weeks ago i smelled the fumes inside and saw leak. dealer replaced gas tank, saying there was rust near the top of the tank. my car is garaged, so i don't understand. *nm | |||

| Dealer claims that i damaged the charcoal canister by 'topping off the gas tank. his definition of topping off is to fill until the pump shuts off, then add a little more to get a round number total cost. since most people top off the tank using this definition, it would seem that this must be a design defect. the dealer says that if it is not fixed the car will fail required emissions tests, but that if it is fixed and i top off the tank it will fail again. there is no warning against topping off the tank in the owners manual. therefore normal refueling results is permanant damage to the emissions system. this means that the emissions system can not be maintained in working condition. dt | |||

| Toyota customer and owner with unfortunate problems with my car driven normally in the ordinary course of the day as an elder. the electrical system has failed, the oil leaks, the floormat interferes with the accelerator pedal and sticks, interfering with braking experienced recently on the ny-ct highway. i paid to repair the electrical failure and oil leaks and still the electrical system as indicated for example by the dashboard which is continuously lit up, i.e. is still not working properly. i wrote to toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. 19001 south western ave. dept. wc11 torrance, ca 90501 cc: nancy fein, vp customer service toyota motor sales usa inc., po box 10054 toldeo ohio 43682-4419. *tr | |||

| When releasing foot from the gas, the gas pedal will sometimes lock in the idle position requiring extra force to release it resulting in a sudden acceleration which could result in losing control of the vehicle in slippery conditions. ts | |||
