| I bought a used 199 camry two weeks ago. the first week i noticed a problem with the passenger window. it would not roll up or down after having rolled in down and up severeal times. i mentioned to my brother that i had a probelm with my camry and before i could even state the problem he asked if it was a 1999 camry and if i had a problem with the window rolling up and down. apparently his mother had the exact same problem -- but just turned it in at the end of her lease. the dealer says that it is probably the regulator. this seems to be a common problem although there is not recall on this. dealer says it will cost $400. i am concerned about this problem in the winter ( i live in wisconsin). there is also a considerable safety and security concern. i am not sure whether i will return the car or get it repaired. | |||

| Driver power window came off track and was fixed under warranty. passenger power window came off track dealer fixed after warranty for cost of $80. passenger window came off track again fixed by mechanic 1/2 dealer price. both rear window motors failed and replaced at cost of over $400. each. toyota superceded the original part with a new one. apparently a known defect with no recall. passenger window came off track once again. next car may not be toyota. *nlm | |||

| The power windows in the front on the driver and passenger sides go off track and will not come down. my dealer said this happens all the time on the 1999 camrys but there has been no recall. this is dangerous in the north east in bad weather. it also makes us vulnerable to a car jacking or theft. my dealer said he fixed but windows but it has happened again. why doesn't the government order a recall. what happens after my warrenty is over? there is a real design defect with these cars, so why isn't someone doing something about this? what about the hours on end that i must waste waiting for repairs and the lost hours of work. who is suppose to reimburse me for lost pay?*ak | |||

| I am a little displeased with my 1999 toyota camry. i bought it as a certified used car with 19,300 miles. already, i have shelled out 450.00 for the replacement of the rotors, disc pads, and assembly. the drivers side window had failed before, and i had them replace the whole assembly. the dash lights just failed recently, as well as one of the rear lights burned out in nov. i logged a complaint with toyota cust. service center, but i still feel that this car is a lemon. what new 1999 car with 30,000 miles has had this many failures? please send me any other info that might pertain to this, or any info you hear back. itr would be greatly appreciated. i don't want to be taking my car in for major service every year!!! | |||

| Vehicle rolls backwards on any sort of incline. the transmissions will not hold the car on a hill even when the transmission is in drive. dealer stated this was a normal operating condition. the transmission has zero drag for best gas mileage and is not designed to hold car without throttle pressure. the dealer has not been able to correct this problem. *ak | |||

| There is distortion in the windshield. when driving during the daytime. this causes a terrible strain on driver's eyes, and results in headaches. the dealer has been notified, but is not sure what can be done to solve this problem. *ak | |||

| Windshield was scratched when bought. dealer try to polish out but couldn't so replaced windshield with oem glass. replaced glass has extreme distortion and waviness when look out towards rearview mirror and passenger side. took back to dealer and they ordered new windshield. had same distortion. dealer ordered more windshields and had same distortions. contacted toyota customer service. now customer service and area rep telling me all toyota camrys have this distortion in glass and is considered a common item instead of a defect. have checked aftermarket glass and most seems to have some distortions to a varying degree. this distortion is not just at the edge of the windshield and is distracting when driving and could possibly affect safety. is this a common problem in new vehicles? my previous vehicles did not have this distortion. glass technician calls it cross grain distortion. *ak | |||
