The front left of the car was making noise. when i drive, the steering wheel was vibrating when i press the brake. when i was driving on the freeway, the steering wheel stopped working. as the steering wheel did not work, i tried to stopped the car by pressing the brakes, but that did not stop the car. the front of my car hit into the center divider on the freeway and then the back of my car also hit the divider. when the car finally stopped i was blocking 3 lanes on a 5 lane freeway facing traffic. the air bags did not deploy even though i was driving 55 mph. the front bumper completely detached from the car. i suffered whiplash including neck and shoulder pains. i just had my car maintained about a month ago. *tr

To whom it may concern: without hearing the news related to toyota vehicle recall, i have felt really stupid how i could have had the accident. recalling the process of the accident, i might have to say it was weird. before the crash, i clearly noticed the red light and a stopped car just in front of me on n perkins rd, close to mcelroy rd in stillwater, oklahoma, and the distance was more than 20 meters apart at that moment. i pressed on the brake pedal as usual, but my car did not slow down until hit the car before mine, and the airbag did not pop out. my face was knocked onto the steering wheel and one of my glasses smashed, fortunately not making me blind, and two teeth in mouth were bleeding along with some scratches on my face. the car was totaled at the speed of less 40 mi/h. people love toyota vehicles for the reason of saving gas at the sacrifice of safety. shortly, the police and ambulance arrived. i declined any medical arrangement after being tested that my mind was under control and could make decision clearly because i was not sure whether my insurance covers the cost or not. and now, as the problem with toyota vehicles was disclosed, i feel my accident might also be due to the same gas pedal defect.  Since toyota is having all these problems i want to bring up a problem with my toyota camry that is a safety issue but has not caused a problem yet. it is out of warranty. about a two months ago i got an airbag malfunction light. i also noticed that the light on the console that tells you whether there is a passenger in the front passenger seat was malfunctioning too. so with someone in the front right seat, the indications are that the system thinks there is no one there so the airbag is off. i said something to the dealer but he did not mention anything about a recall. there is 122k miles on the car. maybe this is just some sensor that wore out but i wanted to mention it with all the other safety issues going on with toyota. *jb

On april 26, 2005, my daughter driving a 2004 toyota camry le (v6) rear-ended another vehicle (an acura) at an speed of 50+ mph and none of the airbags in the camry were deployed. drivers of both cars were taken to hospital for further evaluation. later, i contacted toyota corp. which had one of its inspector inspect the wrecked vehicle and determined the airbags operated as designed. i have requested on at least two occasions a copy of the inspection report and other related documents and memos from toyota corp and they have refused to provide me with the requested documents. in a may 16, 2005, letter sent to me by toyota, they have stated that the srs airbags are not designed to inflate if the vehicle is subjected to a rear impact, if it rolls over or if it is involved in a low speed frontal collision. in reality, our camry was not rear-ended, did not roll over, and had a high speed frontal collision of 50+mph.

I bought a 2004 camry about a month ago from my local toyota used car dealer. a week later i told them front-end felt funny and needed to be checked. they said i needed an alignment. had that done. called them last week and said i still feel like there's some sort of front-end problem. my brake pedal is spongy and almost to the ground. sometimes i'm not sure if i'm going to stop in time. also told them my steering wheel was shimmying. i was told that the steering wheel was probably indicating a tire balance issue and they would charge me $50 to balance/rotate my tires. i decided to put the money toward new front tires instead hoping that would also reduce road noise. as for the brakes.... i was told that was standard for the camry models and was a known design issue but no corrections were in place that they were aware of. last weekend i was in a crash. my brakes failed! my abs did not engage and my airbag did not deploy. i was traveling about 30-40 mph on a highway when the person in front hit their brakes. i hit mine and continued to skid into the back of their vehicle. i had plenty of room to stop. there's no reason other than brake failure for me to have crashed. *tr

On 2/17/05 i was traveling south @50mph on a 4 lane highway. a dodge ram p/u truck turned in front of me at an intersection. i ran into the side of the truck going at least 35 mph. the point of contact was a full frontal impact that resulted in an inoperable vehicle that was towed from the scene of the accidient. police report listed the vehicle as totaled. the front airbag did not deploy. the front left airbag sensor located on the frame was sheared from the wiring assembly. i was transported from the accident in an ambulance. my mouth and then my chest hit the steering wheel. my head also hit the windshield. the impact resulted in a broken tooth that was imbedded in my chin, a laceration on my chin that required stitches, head, arm, and leg abrasions in addition to pulled muscles in my neck and back that still require medical attention. *ak

The passenger side air bag of our 2004 camry repeatedly disengages. the dealership has re-calibrated the computer five times now and the dealership service manager says this is a known problem to toyota but their engineers have not figured out how to fix it. they refuse to replace any parts, saying that there are too many parts that could be the problem and they'd just be throwing parts at it. they also claim the lemon law does not apply to this problem specifically because they are not replacing parts but simply re-calibrating. i don't know what to put in here for incident date because there have been so many. i will use the last one below, but this is a repair we've had to seek again five times. the only reason we have not had to seek it more than that is that normally my wife drives this car alone and rarely has a passenger. the airbag only disengages when there is a passenger. it appears there may be some connection between seatbelt use and putting car in or out of gear. this last time it went out we were stuck in traffic for about an hour. at one point the passenger released the seatbelt. we were taking the car in and out of gear every 5-10 minutes to move just a few yards. another time the airbag disengaged was somewhat similar. we had pulled into a rest area. i was in the passenger seat and got out. my wife later moved the car (driving) and was waiting for me to get back in with the car running, in gear. when i got back in, shortly thereafter we noticed the airbag disengage light came on. *jb

A serious and dangerous flaw exists in the 2004 toyota camry le v6 which the company refuses to correct. our car contains driver and front passenger side and curtain airbags. this was specificially purchased as optional equipment ($650. additional) for the safety of the front passenger. the system is such that airbag on and airbag off indicator lights indicate the activation of the front passenger airbag, side airbag on the passenger seat and front passenger's seat belt ptensioner. i have been advised by the dealer that a person weighing 70lbs. or more should activate the airbag on indicator light and afford protection for the front passenger. my spouse wieghs 95 lbs. she does not presently activate the airbag on indicator light although it did activate the first two months we had the car. what we have been doing to have the front passenger protected is for me (the driver) to press down on the seat while i start the car with my spouse in the front seat. this works about once every four or five attempts. the above is bad enough, but on two occasions, the indicator light went from airbag on to airbag off while we were driving. i had to pull over to try to activate the airbag on to afford protection for the front passenger. as i mentioned above, the company has refused to correct this dangerous situation. i spoke to the dealer (prestige toyota of ramsey, nj) and to the toyota customer assistance center to no avail.*ak
