While driving my 05 toyota camry(which has 51k miles on it) in the morning to work, my car at first wasn't giving any gas into the engine and it wouldn't start. my co-workers were able to jump start my car and i was able to drive to the dealership after going to auto-zone and a local body shop who were unsure of the issue. the dealership told me after the diagnosis, the throttle body needs to be replaced due to it being faulty and clogs up due to moisture getting into the valves. the total cost for the part itself + labor and taxes totaled 1155.99! up until now, i haven't had any issue with the car except this. this is a serious issue if it does not get resolved. what would happen if i was on a highway driving at the speed limits? what would happen if this stalled on a busy intersection? please talk to toyota about this issue! *tr

On or about jan. 25, 2010, i was parking my 2005 toyota camry on the street in front if my house. as i put it into reverse to back into the parking space, it suddenly surged backward incredibly fast. the only thing that stopped it was the car parked behind me. no damage was visible on the other car; but my bumper was scratched and cracked. it scared me. *tr

My wife was driving at a speed of no more than 15 mph off of our housing estate on and heading towards a main road. the road was icy and my wife is a cautious driver who would not be driving at excessive speed. as she approached the junction she applied the brakes to stop the car at the junction the car did not seem to slow. she made a split second decision to turn right on to a cul-de-sac rather than go across the main road. she ended up driving across the cul-de-sac before hitting a lamp post and then driving into a neighbors garage door where the car finally stopped. my wife was not injured although the car was heavily damaged, the air bags did not deploy. there were visible skid marks on the cul-de-sac where you could see that she had applied the brakes. the police report concluded that my wife was driving with excessive speed, my wife is a very cautious driver who has never had an accident in 20 years. when interviewed by the police she was not sure exactly how this could have happened it happened so all she could do was agree with the police report. given the media attention with newer toyota models recently we though we should report this. *tr

I own a 2005 toyota camry and since i bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . for example when i stop at a traffic light and i begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and i could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . another problem that i have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after i get a bump i have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,i even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. all this complaint was given to toyota in priors calls i made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong. *tr

I had my new 2005 camry into the dealership (longo toyota, el monte, ca) three times in the first month after i purchased it. i explained that there was a major surge in acceleration while breaking. i also had problems with my car ?jumping? forward while at a complete stop, and another issue with a lag in acceleration. all three of these issues have happened more times than i can count. there have been many times that i haven't been able to accelerate at first, only to find myself trying to brake (and not succeeding) as soon as the accelerator kicks in seconds later, sending the car surging forward. i've taken the car in to the dealership, and each time i was told that there was no problem - that whatever my issue might be, it could not?t be replicated, and that any ?timing? concern was only the electronic throttle ? and that this was completely normal. the issues with the camry?s acceleration & electronic throttle are incredibly dangerous, and were almost the cause of a major accident (my 3 year old son was in the car at the time), and countless other minor near-accidents. i am a safe, 33 year old female driver with 17 years of driving-experience, and only one accident on my record (a man rear-ended me on the freeway in 2003). toyota is such a popular brand, and if there are other camry owners, then none of us are safe. how many people have to be injured or die before toyota owns up to their mistake? i continue to see recalls for other toyota cars, and hope beyond hope that one day my 2005 camry se will also be recalled.*cw

Own a 2005 toyota camry xle v6. transmission hesitation, heated seats work occasionally, most power windows don't operate properly, and lots of squeaks and rattles. vehicle only has 25,000 miles, very well maintained. dealer says that all problems are normal. i bought a toyota because they were supposed to be the best. this was the first import car for me, and will be the last. i will be returning to ford. i never had any problems like this on my taurus with 200,000 miles. *tr

My 2005 4-cylinder toyota camry has delayed accelerator and rough shifting of transmission. by delayed accelerator i mean that you have to press accelerator pedal about 1/4 to 1/2 before engine engages. this has been dangerous in parking lots where slow driving makes it difficult to keep engine at safe speed. the transmission also shifts roughly and downshifts hard when decelerating down a hill. i contacted dealership where i purchase my vehicle and say that is the way it is since it is computerized. since there are no cables to adjust, i am out of luck. i also contacted 800 number for toyota customer service and they were no help. they did mention that there was a technical service bulletin for same problem on the camry v-6. it seems that the 4-cylinder has same problem but not enough complaints to warrant a technical bulletin.

Was parking car in underground parking garage, pulled into parking stall, almost completely stopped when car suddenly lunged forward over a cement curb, and crashed into the cement wall which was only about two feet in front of the car. fortunately i was wearing seat belt. air bag did not deploy as the car was almost completely stopped when incident happened. the wall was just scratched, but the shopping cart stored on the curb section in front of my stall was smashed. the front bumper of the car was knocked out of place, and i don't yet know what other damage was done. the car was towed to the toyota dealer and we are waiting for an adjustor to make a determination. this car was not on the recall list. if this were just a faulty brake problem, the car would have been stopped completely when it hit the curb instead of jumping up over the curb and crashing into the wall. the first thing that i checked was to make sure that my foot was on the brake, and it was. *tr

Driving on snow packed roads to salt lake city. at around 65 miles of driving the transmission went out in my toyota camry. we had no warning at all, until the car woud no longer drive and the inside was filling up with smoke. we had to have the camry towed to a repair shop and then towed back to vernal ut. we took it to a transmission repiar shop and they told us, that a rod had come out of the transmission and the only way it would do that, is to go from a wet road to a dry road. we were on snowy roads the whole time. we have not replaced the transmission, since it will cost us nearly $5,0000. we don't have that kind of money and it is not our fault. we feel that this is a manufactor defect on the transmission. now i have a 2005 camry, that i can not drive and am still paying for. if we would have had any indications of the transmission going, we would have taken care of it. but as i said we had no warning. the car just quit going.

I was in a multi-storey car park and i spotted a free space 20 yards ahead. i took my foot off the accelerator, and the vehicle begun to lose speed normally. i applied the brake gently to turn right into an empty spot. i was braking to a halt at an appropriate distance from a retaining wall when suddenly, with no warning, the toyota lurched forward at an incredible rate of acceleration, struck the wall then bounced back several feet and the engine cut out. i suffered severe neck trauma, due first to the sudden acceleration and then the impact. the airbag did not deploy despite the fact that the damage to the front of the car was according to an expert consistent with an impact speed of 30 to 35 mph. earlier in the same trip, i was stopped at traffic lights with the car in drive and my foot on the brake. suddenly the car vibrated and lurched against the brake, trying to move ahead. i had to brake hard to prevent it from doing so. the lights changed and i proceeded towards the parking garage where the accident described above subsequently occurred. the damage to the front of the car has not yet been fixed and the car has not been used since the accident. i reported this accident to toyota customer service who arranged for someone from their local service company to examine the vehicle at the body shop where it was located. the main conclusion of their examination was that they found no problem with the brakes. in fact, my complaint was not about the brakes, which had always worked perfectly normally. their report also said we are happy that you did not sustain injuries in this incident. i am sorry to inform them that i am still suffering from severe back and neck pain from the injuries that i sustained. *tr

2005 toyota camry xle--beginning in march 2007 my camry began to accelerate from a stopped position. my camry would take off at high speeds from a complete stop and applying the gas pedal. this occurred several times. i took my car to my dealer bill page toyota in falls church, va. the first time the acceleration occurred was after 2 years and in march 2007. i was on constitution avenue, right lane in dc--which either turns right or goes straight. constitution avenue is 3 or 4 lanes each east and westbound--i was heading eastbound. when the light turned green, the car in front of me turned right, thank goodness because as i took my foot off the brake and unto the gas, my car shot forward so fast my brakes wouldn't stop my car. upon slamming on the brakes which were shuddering so badly, i thought my car was never going to stop and hit the next car (rush hour). i stopped short of hitting that car. i was so scared. my service manager said couldn't reproduce and that there was nothing wrong with my brakes or car. he told me that the shuttering is normal when i slam on my brakes--a safety feature to stop the car. computer said nothing wrong. had the acceleration problem at least 3 more times. i was at a parking meter, 1st space. got into my car, turned on the key, released my emergency brake, and took my foot off the brake and unto the gas. i wanted to make a right turn. there were 2 people on the sidewalk, and thankfully they did not walk in front of my car--i would have run over them. my car took off so fast from a stopped position that i had a hard time stopping my car. i immediately took my 2005 camry to the dealer. again service manager told me computer says there is nothing wrong with my car--think computer/software glitch. last week toyota corp said won't fix b/c not on recall and only intermittent, which is the problem. told me i own the car, it's out of warranty won't pay to fix. help! when driving it's like russian roulette! *tr

I'm concerned the toyota braking issues go deeper than late model prius. my 2005 camry le v6 exhibits similar characteristics as being described today - brake failure when driving over uneven, irregular or rough pavement. when this occurs, the brake pedal stiffens and braking action ceases. i've learned to press down v-e-r-y hard on the pedal during this intermittent behavior. had taken to the dealer more than once. the complaint along with harsh shifting of the transmission which manifests in the engine over-revving while not actually engaging into any gear, then the transmission finally engages making the vehicle go further/faster than desired/anticipated. toyota indicated the issues were an operational characteristic of the vehicle, being dismissive in their response demonstrating a corporate culture of arrogance. have spoken with toyota service managers in henderson, nv, santa monica and thousand oaks, ca re: the transmission and they all have similar responses... rolling their eyes toward the sky and lamenting, ohhh, that v6 camry transmission as if some sort of factory 'inside joke'. these are clearly known issues the factory has chosen to do nothing about, thus the service manager's hands are tied. (had been extremely pleased with my former '95 camry to the tune of 300,000 miles.) it's disappointing toyota has ceased to be the honorable company they once were. *cn

I purchased a 2005 toyota camry xle- 6 cylinder, new in fall of 2004. at present i have under 22,000 miles on it. during my limited driving of this vehicle i have experienced at least 5 episodes of unintended acceleration. i recently discovered that another family member had a similar experience while driving my car. the last experience happened on 12/16/09. i had a passenger in the car with me at the time. each episode is more violent than previous ones. i have had the car looked at thoroughly by the local toyota dealer. the first time they looked at it was july 6/09. since they cannot make it happen they said, they don't know how to fix it. since toyota announced problems i have called them on 2 occasions and have 2 case numbers assigned. the car was last examined by the dealer on 12/22/09. i was told to wait until the recall was official and see if 2005 camrys were added to the list. they have not been. the car is setting in my garage and hasn't been driven since 12/22/09. i hate to think what might have happened had i driven this car as much as i did my previous camry, a 1994 with well over 200,000 miles at present. *tr

2005 camry delays, then lurches forward, when accelerating from under 10 mph. when car is driven above 10 mph then is decelerated to under 10 (i.e. to make left turn) then accelerated, the engine will rev and after a .25 to .5 second delay the transmission catches and throws the car forward. *tr

2005 toyota camry failure is in the nature of delayed transmission response. incidents happen at around 25-40mph, mainly while coasting in heavy traffic, also while in process of slow acceleration while changing lanes. vehicle drops in speed/delays and then lunges, many times making a strong kick/jerk before allowing completion of lane change or acceleration. has caused quite a few close calls while merging into lanes. also, very delayed response while taking off from a stop sign or coasting through at slow speeds at an intersection, car delays shifting. revs to the 3rpm mark while still stuck at 15mph. dealer does not help with warranty b/c they can't feel the problem when test driving. have gotten the response that it is a normal function. *tr

Purchased new 2005 camry se. immediately reported problems with severe pulling to the left (across lanes if not holding steering wheel firmly.) also, complained of intermittent hard shifts between 20 and 40 mph. as if someone had hit the car from rear. this causes a broad period of uncontrolled acceleration as the downshift occurs and the revs increase. the tires also wore out after 8,000 due to pull. took to numerous repair facilities and they all said the alignment was fine. i was never contacted about toyota service bulletins. car now has 40,000 miles. dealer says out of warranty and tsbs are only good for one year. applicable tsbs are: st005r-01, tc003-05, and st002r-04. otherwise love car. have had over 12 toyotas and this is first with a problem. *tr

I have a 2005 toyota camry se v6 3.3l . 31,000 miles. purchased new. since new this vehicle has had an intermittent problem with the transmission shifting. it seems to get confused on what gear to shift into when you let off the accelerator at speeds between 20 and 45. you can feel the transmission jump back and forth between gears. it is not suttle at all. it feels like the trans is on its way out. i know quite a bit about cars, enough to know eventually this trans will fail if it continues to have this problem. this car like many other newer vehicle shifts when the computer tells it to, and it also has what they call throttle by wire acceleration control, which means the acceleration is also controlled by computer and not by a cable connected to the pedal like cars always had been. i believe the combination of these two things is exactly what causes this problem. twice i have talked to someone at the dealer. once they told me some vehicles vin #'s are qualified for a computer software upgrade to resolve this issue and others vin#'s are not. today i called and the service guy and he told me there is no such recall at all and he hasn't had anyone complain about this issue. also, my mom has a 2006 v6 camry and has the exact same problem with her car. i have driven it. exact same thing. so far that is 2 for 2. aamco looked at my trans fluid today and said it looked unusually dirty and is beginning to burn which will eventually cause complete failure. aamco can do warranty work. they are more willing to find a real problem with your transmission. the dealer does not want fix you trans under warranty! *tr

Hesitation in acceleration after depression of accelerator. car will eventually respond but only after a second or two. upon pulling into a parking space with the intent of moving slowly up to the bumper curb it can suddenly surge (jump) ahead uncontrollably. if the driver is waiting in a left hand turn lane awaiting for time to make a safe turn in front of oncoming traffic it is very dangerous to assume that your car will proceed when applying the accelerator so that you can proceed through the turn in front of the traffic or will the car hesitate momentarily and then surge ahead just in time to be broadsided by the oncoming car. this car is dangerous!! i do not want anyone to be forced to drive this car.. we have had two incidents in parking spaces where the car has surged ahead and we caused damage in on case to the car in the opposing space where we bumped a shopping cart into the opposing car. that one caused damage to the car that we hit which we paid for and damage to our car. the second time my while moving into a parking space with a sign at the end of the space we surged into the sign causing $700 worth of damage to our car. i have had three trips to the toyota dealer where they informed me that the car is performing to specifications. they could only state that they thought it might be driver error. i even went to arbitration with the same result. i simply do not buy this result. i also own a '07 ranger which performs perfectly and my driving habits are exactly the same in both vehicles. *tr

He has been experiencing problem either with the transmission or the accelerator. when he start to accelerate sometimes, usually in low speed, 20% to 40% of the time, there is a few seconds the car does not respond, and suddenly he feel a jolt and the car jumps violently. he has to look back whenever it happens to see if someone has crash in to his car. if there is a car infront of him while in traffic, this could lead potential car accident of hitting the car infront of him. he also has to make sure he does not park too close to other cars or the wall. i have help him reported the issue to dealer 2 times many months ago and they said they can not fix the problem if they can't feel the problem. i have also told the headquarter i found numerous complaints on the same hesitation/acceleration problem my father experiencing and i noticed toyota have been telling other people same response that dealer can not fix the problem if dealer can not feel the problem, and dealer have been telling people this is normal behavior for those who revisited many times. there are hundreds of complaints about this issue if you go search on google (using keyward toyota camery transmission problem). one of the website is i found from google result for example was http://www.autobytel.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/2852. it has 27 pages of such complaints . i have also notice such complaints does not apply to just 2005 year camery but against 2002 and 2007 camery as well. with so many cars they sold over 5 years and so many complaints on their transmission that can lead accidents and possibly already did, toyota are making individuals feel as if they are the only one imagining things. a few people said certain stores allow them to do a computer chip fix, and the fix was not helpful. on top of transmission problem. he noticed paint peeling, rust paint under 15x magnifying glasses, a bubble on dash board. *tr

The automobile consistently hesitates when depressing the accelerator. this occurs when leaving stop signs, merging at medium speeds and passing on 2-way or divided highways and accelerating after decelerating. it then over accelerates when it makes up its mind you want to go faster after a second or two. toyota claims the car works as designed. i fear for my life in this automobile, since the other drivers do not realize that this car is a piece of junk. *tr

Whenever i applied the brake pedal at low speeds between 1-30 mph as approaching an intersection, a stop sign or an immediate brake the transmission switches gears, and the rpms increased. the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor and the car jolted forward, and did not stop until the brakes were applied again. fortunately, i have not had an accident. others have. i have had the defective brake problem since i bought the car new in 2004. i had the dealer's repair technicians drive the car on multiple occasions, they said they were not able to recreate the problem. this was not how anti-lock brakes were supposed to work. toyota needed to research this defect thoroughly and announce a recall before others get hurt or killed.*ak

Since the first month i purchased my 2005 4-cylinder camry the acceleration pedal does not immediately engage and the transmission occasionally slips then makes contact for acceleration. especially troublesome in tight areas such as parking lots where i have had close calls with other vehicles close to hitting me due to this hesitation. my toyota dealer after about 4 - 5 visits have stated that since other camry's in parking lot do the same, it is o.k. this is not acceptable since there have been times on turning left or right that transmission has slipped making it hard to move along. the dealership did replace a solenoid valve after continually badgering them and that didn't help. they say problem could be in computer box to transmission (that cannot be accessed by technicians) is set at factory and cannot be adjusted. all this computerized has made it difficult to make any corrections that a customer complains about. the other issue is the thumping noise on driver and passenger windows make when going down. again they said that other camry's do it, so it is fine. that is not a way to build a car. both of these issues have been going on since the first month i purchased vehicle. *jb

I am currently the owner of a 2007 le 4 cylinder camry. at approximately 76k miles my trans started acting funny as if it did not want to pull and was leaking trans fluid. upon taking it to the dealership, i was told that there was a very bad leak (which may have resulted in a bad/defective seal) and that before any further work could be done it needed to be taken care of. the next day i was told that the pump was damaged, as well as, the torque converter. he also stated that the parts needed to be replaced or replace the whole trans. either way i'm looking at a 4k bill which i can't afford and the vehicle is no longer under warranty. i called toyota's customer service number and to no avail i was told that they could not help me. *jb

We bought our 2005 camry le v6 in the fall of 2004. from day one, we noticed the hesitation. when leaving a stop sign, for example, it would lag for a split second, then suddenly jerk into gear. the first week we called the dealer and was told this is normal for the first 1000 miles. when it continued we were told it was the computer. we mentioned it at every warranty check and they said they never saw the problem. we wish we knew that we're not the only ones so we would have pursued it earlier. toyota never mentioned knowing transmission problems in the 2005 camry. now our daughter has to learn how to drive! *jb

Re 2005 toyota camry v-6 xle 5-speed automatic transmission (a/t), 1mz-fe engine. vehicle purchased nov 30 2004. from day of purchase through current, a/t has not shifted smoothly as it was advertised to. following depends on accelerator pressure - does not occur always. hesitant & sometimes harsh from 1st to 2nd & 2nd to 3rd periodically, in 35 to 45 mph range, rough shift down and then back up. at times the hesitant shift from 2nd to 3rd has put me in an unsafe situation. it is not a sure/positive shift - it winds up before it engages. prior vehicle was 1999 camry v6 - no shifting problems. *jb

Purchased a 2005 toyota camry le and i am experiencing the exact same transmission problems. at about 24-30 mph it will rev to about 3000-4000 rpms before it switches to 2nd gear. also when slowing down the car will jerk into gear. on the highway when trying to pass cars it will just ignore my request for about 3 seconds. this is a dangerous car!!! took to dealer and they stated it is working as designed. this is not acceptable and toyota needs to do something about it before someone gets killed. jb

Consumer 2005 camry has a problems with the transmission. *ts the consumer stated from a stopped position, about 20% of the time , the first two transmission shifts will extend beyond a normal time period while the car's engine revs to about 3000 rpms. at times, when slowing to about 10 to 20 mph and then accelerating, about 80% of the time the transmission would hesitate for 2 to 3 seconds while it selects a gear and will then engage, sometimes in a harsh manner depending upon the pressure on the gas pedal. there was no specific time when the erratic shifts would occur. *jb

I bought a 2005 camry xle last month. the transmission is completely faulty and there is no response from the company. the electronically controlled transmission (ect) is slow to respond. there is a delay when you press the gas so you neven know when the car will actually kick into gear. this is not a problem except when you enter a highway or try avoid a crash.

When the overdrive is activated, the rpm's spike between three and six thousand rpm's. this happens during normal driving conditions. it is an intermittent problem. we have contacted the dealer on two separate occasions and they are unable to find the problem. it started around the beginning of april, five months after purchasing the vehicle. my concern with this problem is that it may spike at an inopportune time causing an accident. when the rpm's spike i lose accelorator control. the vehicle milage is 14697.

Contact with the dealership has been fruitless as far as resolving the problem. i was told that they are aware of complaints, but try the company line that it was engineered to perform this way. basically, the transmission will not gear down satisfactorily, until it comes to a complete stop. a slow turn and then acceleration will 'always' result in 'lagging' of gear changes, then it will finally gear down and lurch into the lower gear. it's aggravating and can be downright dangerous in tight crowded freeway driving conditions where it's not unusual to have to slow down and then speed up without getting rear-ended.

 1. we purchased a new 2004 toyota camry xle from beaverton toyota (beaverton, oregon) 2. here are the three problems: a. when going down a hill, on dry pavement, with the brakes being feathered, with no additional foot pedal pressure, the brakes suddenly engage and the brake pedal pushes back on the drivers foot. b. after braking and then accelerating, the brakes do not release after the brake pedal has been released. this causes the engine to hesitate until the brakes release. this happens especially in heavy stop and go traffic. c. with very little pressure on the accelerator, the engine hesitates which causes the transmission to downshift multiple times running the rpms up to the redline. 3. i have reported these problems to beaverton toyota service department multiple times and the hillsboro (oregon) toyota service department one time. they admit there are problems, but since toyota has not issued a service bulletin they can do nothing to fix the problems. i have driven another 2004 camry at the hillsboro toyota dealership and none of the problems listed above occurred.

My wife and i purchased a 2005 toyota camry xle v6 5sp auto in nov 2004. shortly after taking delivery, we started to notice hesitation in the transmission while trying to accelerate from a stop and after slowing down in traffic. we also felt a delay when attempting to go into passing gear. this delay would last up to a couple of seconds. after the delay was felt, the car would accelerate rapidly. this would cause a jolt to the passengers and driver. it seems as though the transmission is not getting the power demand from the accelerator equipment quickly enough. we have taken it to the dealer twice. the problem seems to be getting worse. the last statement from the service manager was i drove the car and clearly understand your complaint concerning the hesitation. that is the nature of this new technology. we cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle the service manager denied they had any other complaints from anyone concerning this problem. that's when i started searching the web. after collecting complaints from several web sites such as this, i confronted the service manager. he stated he was unaware of the complaints and gave me the 1-800-# for toyota. we have contacted toyota and got a case #. they claim there are two tsb's associated with the problem. my question is why doesn't the dealer already have the tsb's my wife is the primary driver and has complained of two near misses caused from this problem. we will give toyota this opportunity to correct the problem, but i am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling concerning a fix. next step is to get rid of the dangerous vehicle. *nm

About 2 months ago, i purchased a brand new 2005 toyota camry se v6. i have already taken it back to the dealer because of transmission issues. i push on the accelerator and nothing happens...then seconds later (after i've taken my foot off the gas), the engine revs up to 5000+ rpm and stays there for a few seconds. i fear for my safety! the dealer said they had tons of complaints, said this behavior was completely normal, but had two upgrades for the car's computer system. they told me the upgrades would fix the problem...and it did - for a week. for that week, my brand-new camry was the greatest! after a week, i noticed it seemed to be slipping back into it's bad habits. now, a month later, i am taking it back again. it is just as bad as when i took it in the first time. i have been close to getting into at least 3 accidents because of this issue. it is completely unsafe, toyota knows there is an issue (they have fixes), and yet they keep selling their cars. i bought a new car so i wouldn't have these problems! i spent a lot of money, and i feel like i got a lemon. this car needs to be recalled. *nm
