While driving my 05 toyota camry(which has 51k miles on it) in the morning to work, my car at first wasn't giving any gas into the engine and it wouldn't start. my co-workers were able to jump start my car and i was able to drive to the dealership after going to auto-zone and a local body shop who were unsure of the issue. the dealership told me after the diagnosis, the throttle body needs to be replaced due to it being faulty and clogs up due to moisture getting into the valves. the total cost for the part itself + labor and taxes totalled 1155.99! up until now, i haven't had any isssue with the car except this. this is a serious issue if it does not get resolved. what would happen if i was on a highway driving at the speed limits? what would happen if this stalled on a busy intersection? please talk to toyota about this issue!

Car was parked in driveway. the key was removed from ignition. the car drifted down driveway in reverse into tree causing approximately $7000 in damage to car. testing of car later revealed that the key can be removed from ignition when the car is not in park. toyota is currently investigating.

My 2005 camry has 53000 on it, very well maintained. was driving 25 mph on a traverse when the engine suddenly died. i tried to restart the car without success. called a towing service, however, 10 minutes later i was able to start the car and drove home. the service engine light remained on. at first chance i drove my car to my local mechanic who told me it was the throttle body, but suggested to bring my car to the toyota dealer because he had seen so many of camry throttle malfunctions that he thought there might be a recall. i took his advice, bought it to the dealer who confirmed that my throttle body was bad and needed replacing. however he told me that he could not guarantee that the service engine light would not go off unless i had an engine flush and a full tune-up. this did not sit well with me, so i declined the services. i paid him $100 as a diagnostic fee. when he went to get my car, the engine would not turn on at all. i called a towing company who took it back to my mechanic. he replaced the throttle and reset the service light. the car is now running, but because of my mechanic's statement and many similar throttle complaints recorded on the internet, i strongly feel that the throttle issue should be investigated.

I have been an extremely safe driver for 21 years. two incidents of unintended acceleration occurred within one hour yesterday afternoon with my 2005 camry 2005 le. until this time, the car behaved and drove perfectly for 6 years. it was a dry and hot (93f) day, and the road condition was perfect in both cases. the first time was during a 30-mph cruising along a side street when the car suddenly accelerated by itself and jerked toward one side. i immediately corrected the problem by braking and steering. the second time was at a stop sign on a side street. i was waiting for the other car to pass before i could turn left when the car suddenly tried to accelerated by itself even though my foot was firmly pressing the brake. during this brief struggle between me and the car, the engine made some low, grinding noise, and the car was able to move forward twice, about 6 inches each time, despite my hard foot braking. no accident was resulted in either case. i reported these two incidents to toyota customer care immediately and was directed to a local toyata dealership for investigation. the car is currently being examined by a local dealer for potential causes. i am afraid to drive this car if the defect is not repaired.

May 21, 2011 after picking up grandkids from school the car was accelerated and lost power when entering i-35 south bound. the engine light on the on the instrument panel was on also. the car had to be pulled over to the shoulder, put in park and restarted. this happened two more times before getting home. may 22, the same thing happened again, so we took the car to auto zone and have diagnostics ran. the message shown related to the throttle control being stuck and the codes were aa1, aa2 and aa3, all relating to faulty throttle control parts. may 23, called toyota to file a complaint and hopefully get assistance. we were denied assistance since our we do not maintain service through a toyota dealer and the car is 10.000 miles out of power train warranty. fowler toyota charged us $1061.00 to diagnose, and repair the electronic throttle control system. our car is a 2005, toyota camry. vin 4t1be32k25u045463. the problems occurred each time the accelerator was depressed. the car would just lose power and die, the engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel. car would have to be put in the park position and restarted.

On 1/10/11the check engine, trac off, and vsc warning lights in my 2005 toyota camry xle v-6 vehicle became activated. the mileage was 89961.service advisor ryan parker at vandergriff toyota in arlington, tx. advised that the warning lights had been activated because one of the catalytic converters was defective and would have to be replaced at a cost osf appr. $1500. to restore the two safety functions. steve gardner, a customer service supv. at the toyota 800 number confirmed that the two safety functions were disabled when the warning lights were on and that they could not be restored unless the defective catalytic converter was replaced, ie, the computer could not be reset to restore the safety functions. the vehicle operates normally, but i have been deprived of the use of the trac and vsc safety functions for which i paid extra since these functions were options when i bought this vehicle new at stevinson toyota in golden, co. in 2005. it appears that a defect in the computer system has created a safety problem.

My 2005 toyota camry (70,000 miles) stalled yesterday as my wife was driving the car to drop my son to school yesterday and the car stalled right in the middle of the road in busy traffic. my 8 year old son was terrified when the car simply stopped on a busy state road. as my wife was driving the car she suddenly realized that in spite of pressing the accelerator pedal the car was not accelerating and then she realized that the car had stalled. this car has been maintained with regular services at a toyota dealer. i have dropped my car at the local toyota dealer and they advised that the throttle body needs to be replaced. the cost to get this repaired is about $1200, which by no means is a small amount. after searching on the internet it looks like there are many toyota camry owners (model 04 through 06) who have had to go through this exact same problem. so it definitely looks like a widespread and not a one off issue. it needs to be investigated further. its a shame that a car company like toyota hasn't owned up this problem and recalled the cars yet. if sudden uncontrolled acceleration is a problem worth recalling the cars, isn't sudden stalling of cars equally dangerous?

Rear speaker covers (2) cracked and collapsed inward with no outside forces being applied. inquired at southbay toyota, gardena, ca as to wether this was a parts defect, as i had read many online complaints concerning this problem. i was only given a replacement cost of $65.00 plus tax.

Rear speaker covers are defective-i notice the holes were getting larger and touched the speaker and it fell/caved in! the pieces just fell apart like dust. these pieces fell inside and now making a crackling spark noise and if overheated cause a fire. it is over 100 degrees here in dallas texas. contact toyota and refuse to fix the $200.00 problem to fiz=x. toyota has hundreds of complaints online for the same problem since 2003. toyota was well aware of this and continued to make the exact speaker covers for 5 yrs. they place the blame on the warranty up and or contact the dealer as they deny its their fault & claims its mine. i have no children nor sit in the back of the car, tis is the first time i touched the speaker and it fell in. now causing heat & sparks in the back of the car. may be hazardous & catch fire. toyota denied to fix and carlessly continued to make the smae defective part after receiveing numerous complaints.

On may 15, 2010, a sunny day, dry streets and warm temperature, i had come to a complete stop about 3 1/2 feet behind one car waiting at a red light at a very busy intersection. with my foot solidly on the brake my toyota camry engine began to rev, and in just seconds, there was a sudden unintended acceleration and my 2005 camry crashed into the car ahead of me which had a wrap around rubber strip in the rear bumper. the crash bounced my car back over a foot and a half. i went from a total stop to a run away 2005 toyota camry. had i been the first car at the stop light and and my toyota had accelerated into that busy intersection, there would have been a fatality. two young men witnessed this accident and came running to help. there is a police report. and no citations were issued. i phoned the dealership and the car was towed to them. i was wering my seat belt but my neck was snapped. on june 7, 2010 toyota phoned to say this vehicle had been inspected and there is nothing wrong with it and that toyota is neither liable or responsible. no repairs were made and the car was returned to me on june 9, 2010.. ironically about 3 weeks prior to my sudden unintended acceleration another resident of our independent living retirement community with an identical model toyota had the same thing happen. her car crashed into the cement wall of the underground parking garage and there was extensive damange and she was also told that there was nothing wrong with her toyota. i will never be behind the wheel of that car again when it is started. it is dangerous, and the trauma it has caused will not be given a chance to be repeated. my car is showroom quality with only 18,000+ miles. toyota has offered nothing to help replace this vehicle. i understand that beginning in 2011 toyota vehicles will have an override brake system which surely indicates the company knows something is seriously defective in their engineering and designing.

I was getting on the freeway and i was merging to another freeway i was on the 5 merging to the 118 and that is where i noticed the gas pedal excelerated and i could not slow the vehicel down. i then lost control of the steering wheel. i was trying to get the steering wheel to straighten out the car and go with the curve and it wouldn't, i then hit he wall 3 times and flipped my car. i did notice this a month prior to the accident. but thought it was a grove in the freeway. this time i could not stop or control the car. i get on the same freeway everyday it was 5:30 in the morning on the 7th of march, i was going about 45 miles when i started to excel the pedal to continue on to the other freeway overpass. i have been going on this freeway to work for 7 years now and have never had an inncedent except for the month before. again i thought it was a groove in the highway. i did hear on the news when i got home from the hospital that there was problems with the 2005 toyota cars and the steering colum snaps and loses control. which was exactly what happened, i did contact toyota and they said it didn't have anything to do with the gas pedal that it was the 2006 that was being recalled for the gas pedal. they said it was probley the floor mat that got stuck under the gas pedal. i had no recall on the floor mats. i feel it was very wrong for them to kind of cut me short. i did suffer injuries, cuts and bruises not to mention totaling my car. insurance did pay off my car, but such a huge ordeal trying to get money together to buy another car. i am not trying to make myself a rich women i just want toyota to know that it was a horrible thing that happend to me and thank god no one else was involved. attorneys do not want to help me for some kind of conpensation of the ordeal i went through physically and mentally. i am doing alot better now, but they did stop the doctor visits and therapy due to the fact that i may get nothing out of this and have to pay the bills myself

In 2006 i reported of sudden acceleration in my 2005 toyota camry. since then i have had several occurences where my car has lunge into sudden acceleration. the lastest time was on 3/28/10 on i-275 west heading to lawrenceburg indiana. i was driving about 60 -65 mph when my 2005 camry sudden accelerated to about 80 mph, but my putting on the brakes allowed me to get back the control of the vehicle. other times were vaguely remember but here's the ones that come to mind, 3/12/10, 2/10, 10/09, 8/09, there have been other times but because i went through so much with toyota regional office that to avoid stessing out like toyota did to me in 2006, i just didn't report it. in fear of having to go up against this big corporation again and they deny that there is even a problem with the accelerated pedal i left the reporting alone. it's very stressful going through all of this only to be told that there's no problem with the car.

While attempting to park in the parking space in front of a building, the vehicle (2005 toyota camry sl) accelerated on its own, jumping the curb, crashing into the railing and the building wall. police impounded vehicle as it was unsafe. in the seconds prior to the crash, my foot was off the accelerator and i was in the process of braking because i was entering the parking space in the lot. vehicle is now at a body shop awaiting to be fixed but not before this is reported to toyota. *tr

While driving my camryle 2005 into the aptos post office parking area, i approached a parking spot and the car jumped the curb, hit a small light post and stopped in the soft wet dirt planting area. the post office personnel took a report and picture and i was pulled out by aaa. i had some of my car damage repaired a few months later, not knowing what the reason of the malfunction was.

I had trouble with my 2005 toyota camry while stopped at a light when all of a sudden it the engine started racing and it wanted to lunge forward. i keep my foot on the brake very hard, put it in park and kept it in place. i hit the accelator several times and was afraid to put it back in to drive when the light changed. luckily iit was ok then. i am not sure if it was 2007 or 2008 and not sure of month and date but this form insists you put one in so i put in any date. i really don't remember the time frame. i happened shortly after having the car in for service and the rpms seem high when not accelerating. *cn

I own a 2005 toyota camry se, i was driving on the highway at 70 mph, from chicago to joplin mo, as i came to the ramp to exit the highway, i put my foot on the brake pedal and started to brake, the car accelerated and wouldn't brake. i had to hit the brake pedal several times before the car finally stopped accelerating. it was a very short winding ramp and i needed to slow down quickly- my family assumed it was me. it happened last summer and it was raining at the time. i was able to avoid an accident but i know it wasn't me, and my car is not on the recall list for a repair- that scares me. that was the only incident with my vehicle. *tr

While slowly pulling into a parking space and with my foot resting on the brake, the engine suddenly revved and the car bolted forward of its own accord. despite efforts to brake hard, the car would not cease to move forward and hit a pole. not until the car was put in reverse and backed out of the pole did the engine stop. there was no confusion during this incident of which pedal was being pushed. as i was already half into the space and had started to decelerate, my foot was on the brake, not the accelerator. also, a quick check after the incident to ensure that it was indeed the brake that i was pushing proved to be accurate. i have been driving nearly twenty years with no at-fault accidents and a clean driving record. i have never once during that time mistook the accelerator for the brake, and, even if that was the case here, i certainly would not have pushed it so hard when i was already halfway into a parking space that it would cause the engine to react the way it did. i am in my mid-thirties and still have all of my faculties, as well as a quick response time. fearing to drive the vehicle, i had it towed to the dealership and they inform me, after what they claim to be exhaustive diagnostic testing, that they can find no problems. i will try to get rid of this vehicle as soon as possible as i do not want to be responsible for someone else's death/injury when this occurs again. my sister and her boyfriend, both of whom have toyotas, have told me that this has occurred on their vehicles as well. she has a 2007 camry and he has a 2009 matrix. *tr
