Consumes about 3 quarts of oil at 3000 miles at oil change
02/15/2012144000
2,000 miles after an oil change i noticed that my oil light would come on sporadically. i checked the oil and it was three quarts low. the car only hold four quarts of oil, so this was especially concerning. a mechanic checked out my car and said that there were no leaks, everything was still factory sealed, and he didn't know why it was consuming so much oil. i had an oil change 1000 miles later, and 2000 miles after that i was low on oil again! according to things i've read, this car consumes roughly 1 quart of oil every 1,200 miles it is driven. this should be fixed by toyota.

I bought 07 camry from local toyota dealership in 2007. from the start i've noticed the car was consuming oil. there is no trace of leak anywhere but was taking oil. without much thought, i would add oil as needed. as the mileage start to rack up, the problem is too obvious and it is getting worse. at the beginning, i did not know how much oil was being consumed. then i stared to use ticker oil hoping the problem would go away. it did not and i am still using ticker oil (5w20 to 5w30) oil consumption problem, i think is progressively getting worse. the car now has 65,000 miles and late last summer (2011) i've seen oil adding every month (about every 1,000 miles). local dealer said a quart every 1,000 miles is normal. service manager is saying that toyota stated the consuming a quart every 1,000 mile is normal. so go complain to toyota corp is what they said. i felt like i was talking to a brick wall. dealership said i should go through oil consumption test, which i stated the process in december of 2011. they had put in half inch above the full mark on the dipstick, which i would have though they would have noted this. after i come back after 1,000 miles, oil consumption was there but they claim 1/2 quart in 1,000 miles. not considering how much they have over filled or had any idea of that fact. i started looking into this in web and also learned that dealership uses additive to not consume oil in consumption testing. i cannot win over dishonest experts at the dealership. this is a serious problem. i cannot sell this car as i am not about to lie about the oil consumption to a buyer. who would want to buy my car that consumes a quart every 1,000 mile. i can tell a buyer this is normal in toyota standard; would a buyer understand this? toyota is trying to turn away their problem onto their customer.

The oil baffle in my 2007 camry has trashed the engine and toyota refuses to take any responsibility because my car is couple of thousand miles past the warranty and they are asking for 8,000 for a new engine. in the meantime, i am still making payment for this car and i have not been able to drive it for the past month and do not have the money to fix it.

The 2.4liter engine in the 2007 toyota camry that i own has begun to consume an excessive amount of engine oil. toyota has issued a technical service bulletin to cover vehicles that are still covered under factory warranty but will not assist me with my vehicle since it is now out of warranty. now the vehicle has 100,000 miles on it and the engine will fail prematurely. i have contect the toyots customer service center as well as my local dealer with no success. the local dealer knows of the problem but says toyota will not assist out of warranty costomers. there was obviously a manufacturing defect in the engine and the problem is widespread with these models. toyota should be held responsible for distributing an inferior product to the public as well as the environmental impact of excessive oil burning on a late model vehicle.

I accidentally found out that my 2007 toyota camry is burning excessive amount of oil. when i went for an oil change at around 60000 miles, the mechanics commented that my engine oil level is very low (nearly empty). he found no signs of leaking. after the oil change, i checked the level to make sure it is full. after 600 miles, the mark is near the low end, which means about 1.2 quart consumption (according to user manual).

This car was purchased used from a private party in august 2011. i did an oil change soon after, on 8/21 with mileage at 57,336. on 11/3 my wife reported the oil light coming on when braking. i checked the oil level, and there was just a tiny bit on the tip of the dipstick. it took 3 full quarts to bring it back up to full on the dipstick. mileage was 59,820 so that means that in 2,484 miles, the engine consumed 3 quarts of oil. on 12/18 my wife again reported the oil light coming on when braking. i checked the oil and the dipstick was completely dry. again, 3 full quarts to bring it up to the full mark. mileage was 61,397 so this time 3 quarts were consumed in 1577 miles. all of this in completely normal driving. there is no oil leaking under the car and there is no smoke coming out of the tailpipe, nor is there any oil mixed in with the coolant, so i don't know where it is going. this is ridiculous. i will be contacting toyota about this tomorrow. the manual states that it is normal to consume a quart every 600 miles. this is also ridiculous. toyota knows there is a problem, there are many complaints about this. toyota has since redesigned their engine because if this. toyota needs to give people with affected vehicles replacement engines to rectify this. please investigate and hold toyota accountable.

This is for camry 07, 4 cyl. the car always gets serviced at the toyota dealership at 5000 intervals (per their recommendations). i noticed before the due mileage (5000 miles) when sudden braking, the oil light would come on. when checking the dipstick it is almost empty. so the dealer recommends doing 500 to 1000 miles oil checks and it is consuming too much oil. after searching i found that there is a defect in the engine block but toyota denies it. i did call their customer service and they mentioned it is ok for the engine to consume oil!!! this is of course is not acceptable and secondly burning oil would make more pollution.

I was driving on the turnpike with my cruise control set at 75 mph when my car began racing into overdrive. it did this for a few seconds then stopped, a few minutes later the engine raced again. about that time another car pulled up next to me to tell me my car was on fire(smoking). i pulled off the interstate and had to have my car towed. toyota finally agreed to replace the engine but i am having same problems with new engine and i was charged $1800 to get an extended warranty on the new engine.
10/12/201172000
Noticed the engine burning oil at an excessive rate (2 quarts every 1500 miles) at around 72,000 miles. at 85,000 miles dealer ran a consumption test and inspected the engine. advised that the short block of the engine needed to be replaced for $6500. car is just out of warranty on mileage and toyota will not cover the repair despite the fact that the dealer says this is a common and known issue. a quick search on the internet of 2007 camry burns oil showed that many others are having the same problem. i have no idea if it's safe for me to drive the car under the current conditions (the dealership couldn't guarantee it was) and i don't feel that it's my responsibility to fix this since it's clearly an issue with this car. online searches have also revealed that toyota has come out with a new short block for the engine of this car, so clearly, they know the other one was flawed. this car is not even five years old. it's not normal to have to replace the engine. toyota is insisting that it is. they won't acknowledge the problem. please investigate!

My camry is burning through oil at a rate of about one quart per 1000 miles! this is not normal in the least. i know that there have been many complaints similar to mine - i sure hope that your agency can do something to address this issue with toyota.

I purchased this vehicle from sheehy nissan on sept. 25, 2010, with 89,720 miles, one previous owner and no accidents/damage reported to carfax, after having a state inspection done of all major systems. i have the oil changed at regular intervals (most recently, sept. 23, 2011 at 110,990 miles) and had 100k mile servicing done on july 19, 2011. the engine failed during a drive to new york. climbing the bridge out of delaware, the rpms abnormally increased. i saw the oil light illuminate, turned off the radio, opened the window and heard the engine making loud noises. i pulled to the shoulder on the approach to the new jersey turnpike. when the car came to a stop, the engine stalled and would not restart. the temperature gauge remained at the mid-way point, but a greasy film covered the back bumper. aaa towed it back to my shop, where mechanics said they could not get the engine to turn. they said the oil pump had failed. oil was in the engine but wasn't circulating, and they found fresh oil and metal shavings in the pan. i paid $3,819 for a complete engine rebuild for a four-year old car. searching the internet and this website, i see a number of owners of 2007 toyota camrys highlighting problems with the car's engine, including sludge build up. i have received no information from the dealer about recalls. the used car warranty covered the engine but its duration was 30 days or 1k miles, whichever came first. in addition, the sun visor on the passenger's side continually slips, obscuring the view of traffic on the right, and will not remain in place - a problem i see other owners of this vehicle report. i don't see a place to enter this, but there were no injuries or deaths because i was able to pull out of traffic while the engine was still running.

I had an oil change 2k miles ago by a certified toyota dealership and yesterday noticed that my oil light kept turning on as i accelerated and decelerated. checked the oil with the dipstick and it was not registering. had to put 3 quarts of oil in to bring it back up to full. had toyota check and there were no leaks. said that its uncommom that this is happening.and it could be burning oil. - that's 1 quart every 1000 miles which is unheard of! i checked online after my visit with toyota and found out that there is a widespread problem! i only have 76k on the engine and my warranty ran out at 65k. dealer said either pay to have the engine rebuilt or buy a new car - then said that he suggests to buy a new car and dump this one before the problem gets worse!!!

I purchased a toyota camry 2007 about three years ago and my transmission went out despite the fact that i received the require maintenance on the vehicle. i am still paying a car note on this vehicle, but can not drive it because of this problem. i addressed my concerns to toyota and intially jack taylors and dar cars of toytoa stated they could take 10% off the 4800 they quoted me. i felt disrespected and insulted because i have brought several cars from toyota and never experenced any major issues.as a single mother and person that is still paying a car note, i did not have that kind of money. i then explored other alternatives , so that i can shop for the best possible price at other transmisssions shop. the first shop i went you was a-1 transmisison(suitland, md)and they indicated that this is a common problem in toyotas camry regarding transmission issues. i then took it to cottman's transmission(waldorf, md) and mechanic idicated that this is common issue in toyota. reportedly, he stated that there are defects with some of the bolts and things they use. i decided to go with cottmans because of their reputation and price. also, because they offered the best warranty( 3year). toyota jack taylor, alexandira,va phoned me a couple days after , stating that they could give me 50% off theprice, however, it was being work on in the shop, so i ask if they could pay half the the price that cottman's was giving me and they said no. i feel like i am being penalized for toyota's deficiencies. after getting my car fixed, it does not drive the same and literally i feel like i am paying for something that doesn adequately supply my need(lemon) i use to work for nhtsa hotline and i wanted to report this issue because this has caused undue hardship and burden on my family. i a rent a car for about two weeks and can not pay my daughter's tuition for school. my daughter's school has extended grace to me. i would appreciate if you all would investigate this mat

The engine often hesitates for several seconds when i step on the gas. this often happens when i am rapidly accelerating to enter a freewayor simply pulling away from a stop light. this is a dangerous situation as i need the car to accelerate to enter fast moving traffic but i cannot count on the engine to rapidly speed up. after several seconds of hesitation, the car then accelerates too rapidly. i have had an issue with this car since i have owned it and have been given every excuse in the world as to why the vehicle performs in this matter from the computer has to learn your driving style to that is how toyota made the vehicle. they replaced the transmission and rebooted the computer and still the problem. i also had the vvti oil line break and dump oil and had been driving like that for over 100 miles-i had replaced the regular oil with synthetic oil -toyota replaced the line and used the exact same kind of part that had failed when i requested they replace it with the upgraded part i was told that it was not a warranty part replacement for the failure and if i wanted them to put the other part on they would but the car would not be covered under warranty because of the non specified part being put on the car, lets hope it does not fail again. two issues one ongoing one not fixed with the upgraded part--shame on toyota!! *tr

I am not sure what led up to the problem, however on december 23, 2009 at about 0515 am pst i was notified by a co-worker that a large oil puddle was beneath the passenger side of the vehicle. the oil leak was sudden and began to drip oil from engine area causing a burning smell to emit from the engine. on that same day i took the vehicle to my local toyota dealership for service to correct the problem. the dealer removed and replaced vvti oil line, timing chain cover, and drive belts. would like to find out if a previous toyota limited safety campaign lsc 90k should be expanded to include 2007 toyota camry v-6. *tr

2007 camry xle v6, this is my second car (lemon law replaced first camry at 300 miles new) and 4th transmission, all covered by toyota. last week all oil drained from vehicle while driving.. oil spewed from underneath vehicle for miles. my girlfriend called me at work, asked me to check my car as she saw my trail of oil for 1/4 mile.. took car to my mechanic, found a rubber hose, a clamp on each end about 6 inches long, the clamps and hose had to be replaced, because oil spewed out of this part. if my girlfriend hadn't called me, my engine would have seized. as when i checked it at work a puddle of oil was under vehicle, and the dip stick showed no oil in vehicle. what if i was on vacation or traveling out of state, my car engine would have been destroyed. engine would have seized due to no oil in engine. big problem................................................ *tr

Without warning, the vvt oil supply hose ruptured, spraying engine oil all over the engine, undercarriage and hot exhaust of my vehicle. this is a 2007 toyota camry xle with the 3.5 litre engine. the vehicle lost almost all of it's engine oil in a very short period of time and no warning lights or indicators ever came on. traveling at highway speeds and with the catalytic converter at peak operating temperatures, this poses a very serious fire hazard. after having my vehicle towed to the toyota dealer, i was advised that the ruptured hose was on national backorder and would take at least 5 weeks to get. i contacted toyota's corporate offices and was told that production of the hoses could not meet the demand for them and that it may take 5 weeks or more to get the part at my local dealer. i was informed by a very reliable source that at the present time, toyota has approximately 1100 vehicles with this same issue across the country. the other problem is that the oil has covered all of the rubber suspension parts from the front of the vehicle all the way to the rear tailpipe tips. after sitting for several weeks, this can cause catastrophic damage to all of the rubber suspension parts. i feel that the toyota corporation is trying to limit it's expense for these premature failures of this oil supply hose and this poses a serious threat to the safety of anyone riding in the vehicle. this should certainly warrant a look by the nhtsa as it appears that the problem is larger tan the ability of toyota to fix. this also places an unwarranted burden on the customer who has to pay for a defective car that is out of service and also pay for rental transportation to remain gainfully employed. *tr

Engine revs up on its own and the car suddenly accelerates once reaching 95mph w/o my foot being on the gas. the brakes do not respond at first and when they do the car begins to shake violently; it takes about 3 to 4 min to get the car to slow down. pulling the hand brake does nothing. thus far this has happened four times. the first time once i got down to 15mph i just turned off the motor. the other times the car was put in neutral then park while the engine continued to rev as if it were going 75 or 80 and the tires wanted to roll the car was jumping. every time we were on the highway and lucky enough to have been able to maneuver between the traffic. the car has been taken to the service department at the dealership twice overall it has been there for 3 and a half weeks, the service people have been unable to replicate the problem. the car was inspected by a toyota tech and deemed fine to operate. my husband and i are afraid to drive the car not only for ourselves but for everyone else who is on the road. *tr

On occasion, my 2007 toyota camry stalls upon acceleration. this causes extremely dangerous situation when pulling into traffic from a stop. i returned camry to toyota only a few days after purchase- they replaced a sensor, but car still stalls. i have returned camry to toyota many times for same stall issue. in fact, toyota is in the shop now with same complaint. the issue has never been repaired. *tr

I bought a 2007 camry in june of 06. the car was manufactured in kentucky. the front and back brakes have squealed almost from the first day and i started reporting the problem at the first dealership service. both tsb's have been applied but did not fix the problem. a technician finally heard a squeak and anti squeaking lubricant was also applied but only lasted a week. left the car at the dealership last monday night and the district person came tuesday. the response was they could not reproduce the squeal so could not fix the problem. of course they squealed twice on the way home. i see i am not the only person with this problem. i also had the transmission problem and fortunately the tsb fixed that problem. then the black wheel rims under the hub caps rusted horribly and the dealership had to replace them under warranty. never thought i would have these problems with a new car. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry v6 is burning oil excessively, all symptoms indicate that the oil skimmer ring is installed upside down in two cylinders. the vehicle is smoking ones in a wile but a lot. mostly after driving longer distance on freeway or in the morning after startup, sometimes after left turns the oil chokes the engine at some point, causing it to stall and throws excessive amount of smoke. i found other consumers with similar problem in canada with the same model and similar age vehicle. the vehicles have low mileage between 8,000-3,0000 supporting the possibility that it may be manufacturing defect. toyota refused to cure the problem under warranty because i didn't keep my receipts of my maintenance. i think a trainee is responsible for the wrong installation of the piston rings and may be more out there. *tr

Terrible hesitation problem in general acceleration and overall lack of engine power in 2007 4 cylinder toyota camry. vehicle purchased new 09/12/07, currently has 6,000 miles on odometer. a toyota tsb was performed at dealership. did not correct problem. this is a scary situation, especially when attempting to maneuver in entrance ramp interstate traffic and and instance when instant acceleration is required. this vehicle is driven daily by my wife, and we are both fearful and concerned that something bad will happen because of the lack of satisfactory performance of this camry. *tr

2007 camry se 4cyl. severe safety issue related to hesitation and lack of acceleration. when entering traffic from a low speed or from a dead stop the car barely responds to the accelerator. it will slowly allow you to proceed but will not accelerate for up to 3 or 4 seconds, even if the gas peddle is fully pressed to the floor. my family and i have nearly been hit a number of times over the past 6 months that we've owned this car. otherwise we really like this car but believe it to be unsafe because of this problem. the local dealership checked it out and agrees there is a problem and that toyota is aware of it but to date there is no fix. this is not a minor nuisance issue it's a severe safety issue and the nhsta needs to get involved to help pressure toyota to fix the problem before people are severely hurt or killed. *tr

I purchased a 2007 camry le in late april. from the day i took delivery, there appeared to be a problem with acceleration; there were dead spots. that led to long 3 to 5 seconds lag times before the car would respond when pressing down on the accelerator. also, the transmission shifted into overdrive when a steady acceleration was all that was needed. i finally took it to the dealer today; i thought that i would allow a 'break-in' period to see if the problem resolved itself. the moment that i began to describe the problem, i was stopped and asked if it was a 2007 camry le. an affirmative response brought an answer that there is nothing that they can do; it had been reported to toyota. apparently to deflect what must have looked like rising anger, i was told that the service manger's daughter has the same problem. a call to toyota of america brought a response that the vehicle is operating as it was designed (so, i guess it was designed to stall when making a right or left turn, changing lanes on the interstate, trying to go forward, etc). my anger is 1) that they sold me a defective car, 2) that they know it is a factory defect but choose not to fix the problem (i can't believe that they are still 'thinking' about a solution), and 3) that i wasn't notified of this rather major defect (and why is toyota allowed to continue to sell these cars without the caveat that there is a factory defect that has not been repaired and toyota has no plans to provide a repair)? i have looked at over a dozen web sights where members have complained, but i have not seen a mention of the reason for the problem or a solution of what to do. someone is going to be killed by this erratic behavior. *jb

This complaint is re: a new 2007 toyota camry le 4 cylinder with automatic transmission. this car will hesitate for a long period of time before accelerating from virtually any speed (behavior not seen when accelerating from dead stop), regardless of how hard the driver presses the gas pedal. problem occurs when moving at virtually any speed and then quickly pressing and holding the gas pedal down so as to accelerate quickly. this behavior is not like any other car i have ever driven, including a rental 2005 4 cylinder camry that i drove for a week in the colorado mountains last summer (2005). safety issue is that car is unpredictable in situations where one must move the car to avoid traffic. example: rolling forward into a left turn at a green light intersection, press gas to clear the intersection before oncoming traffic gets too close, the car did not increase engine revolutions and took over 1 sec. to drop into lower gear and begin to increase engine revolutions/accelerate. the car's failure to respond to gas pedal input was so long that i would have had an accident if i had persisted in the left hand turn; i had to turn the car parallel to oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the oncoming car. this behavior is repeatable and the delay can be up to 2 sec. in length before the car even begins to accelerate. this behavior is also seen by numerous other owners of '07 camrys as can be seen in postings on www.edmunds.com (click on forums tab and search for camry hesitation). the issue is not one of lack of horsepower. the issue is long and unpredictable response to throttle input. there are also very annoying drivable issues with this car that are related to transmission/engine behavior, but i am addressing only the safety issue in this complaint. efforts to resolve issue have not been successful; toyota's response has been that the car is operating normally and as designed. if so, there is a designed-in safety issue with this car. *jb

Letter from congressman kagen on behalf of constituent re compensation for toyota repairs and car rental costs note: letter forwarded from consumer product safety commission *tgw the consumer stated the vvt-i oil line is a rubber hose which routes a high pressure flow of hot engine oil outside the engine block. the rubber deteriorates over time and can unexpectedly break or rupture from 19,000 to over 100,000 miles and can lead to very expensive repairs when running the engine without oil causing severe engine damage. most owners reported there was no warning from the oil or check engine light and they discovered the problem when they noticed a puddle of oil on the ground. the manufacturing fix was instituted in north america plants in april 2008. the assembly fix was to replace the defective metal and rubber assembly with an all metal oil line. the consumer stated her vehicle lost oil suddenly with no warning. when the consumer approached her vehicle, she noticed a large amount of oil underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was purchased. they were unable to do the repairs, so the vehicle was towed to another establishment where the engine was replaced. according to the letter written by the establishment that replaced the engine; the vehicle's engine had locked up, the engine was tight and oil was all over the engine compartment and under the vehicle. when the engine was removed, they found spun bearings, and the crank and two rods were no good. *jb

Car had a burning oil smell that grew stronger during one day. finally heard a small ticking noise as i came close to home, smell was worse and i connected the two... hurried home 5 blocks away. oil trail behind my car to the home. checked oil, required 4.5 quarts of oil to bring it back to level. researched on line toyota owners forum, mention of oil pipe from crankcase to upper head area leaking. a rubber hose that connected two metal hoses failed on other toyotas, ravs and something else. called toyota regarding oil leaks.. gave them my vin # and was informed that my car didn't fall into a service bulletin about the problem, and mileage was over 60k... even though it was exactly like the other cars that are covered. called the local dealer, brought the car in, related to the service writer my experience as a service writer and mechanic, asked if he could make exception or check with area rep. he did, repairas were covered for me, but only because i knew what i was talking about and a good service writer. concerned that many others that don't have mechanical experience or good ears won't catch this, engine damage will result if not caught in time and toyota has not issued a recall for a wider range of cars that have the same issue. they replaced the rubber hose in between the two lines, apparently there is a better fix, a completely metal oil line that prevents oil breaking down the rubber hose. *tr

Attn: defects investigations office. 2007 toyota camry with 38721 miles that is owned by and used as an undercover police vehicle accelerated without explanation on march 10, 2010. the operator, who is a sworn officer, advises that his foot was not on the accelerator and the vehicle increased in speed and engine revolutions without explanation. the event occurred over the course of approximately 1/10th of a mile reaching speeds just over 60 mph. the acceleration event corrected itself. there was no injury or crash associated with the event. the vehicle in question had completed a toyota recall service program # ssc90l to address acceleration issues with this model vehicle on march 2, 2010. the vehicle was returned to the henrico police on march 3, 2010. the extremely short period of time between the recall service and this sudden unanticipated acceleration event gives reason to believe that the recall service was not effective in correcting the acceleration issues associated with toyota brand vehicles. the vehicle was parked shortly after the event and is currently secured by the henrico police. the vehicle has not been driven or examined by any parties since the occurrence of this acceleration event. in light of the fact that this vehicle had recently completed the required acceleration recall service and has been secured since the date of the occurrence, this agency believes that this vehicle is an ideal candidate for examination by the office of defects investigations to determine the origin of this unanticipated acceleration event. the vehicle in question is outfitted with toyota brand floor mats which are tethered to anchors in the floorboard of the vehicle.

We have a 2007 camry xle and the car surges when the cruise control is on and going up a hill. if the cruise is set for 67mph the car has a about 2300 rpm. going up a moderate hill, the car downshifts and goes to 3400 rpm. it then surges to 4700 rpm which puts the drivers head into the head rest. the issue has been going on since we bought the car in may of 2007. we called our local dealer(topsham, maine lee toyota), and they said it was what the computer was programmed to do. i asked again the 1st time i had it in for service and received the same response. it does only happen with the cruise control on, so we have learned to shut off the cruise control going up any hills. we have a 2nd issue with our 2007 camry which toyota refuses to fix. if the rear defrost is turned on while the radio is on, the radio goes dead. the radio antenna and defrost wires are in the same window, and one is shorting out the other. i was told that since no fire occurs to turn off the radio while the rear defrost is on. i have read many similar issues on the internet and told toyota such. *tr

Toyota camry 2007 - sudden acceleration in reverse. when i am backing up the car at slow speeds (such as backing out of my garage) the car often suddenly accelerates backwards. when backing up out of my garage i must keep my foot on the brake at all times and be ready to step hard on the brake to stop the sudden backwards acceleration. when driving forward, the engine often hesitates for several seconds when i step on the gas. this often happens when i am rapidly accelerating to enter a freeway. this is a dangerous situation as i need the car to accelerate to enter fast moving traffic but i cannot count on the engine to rapidly speed up. after several seconds of hesitation, the car then accelerates too rapidly. my toyota dealer claims to have fixed the rapid acceleration when driving backwards, but the problem was not fixed. as for the acceleration hesitation, the toyota dealer claimed that the problem i described did not exist.

*tr

2007 toyota camry with 2gr-fe v-6 engine had a failed vvti pressure pipe assy. major oil leak developed which caused a loss of engine oil. no warning lights came on. dealer replaced with the same part number 15707-31030 with the rubber connection instead of the updated all metal part number 15772-31030. i had 56335 miles on the vehicle so it was under warranty but now i am concerned about this event occurring again after another 56000 miles. i went on the internet and now realize that this problem exist on many of the toyota vehicles with this type engine. i feel there should be a recall issued by toyota before someone gets hurt. (fire, broke down on the side of road and another vehicle crashes into you etc.) *tr

The us federal trade commission has determined in its 2006 & 2007 reports that the toyota camry was the highest listed vehicle to be arbitrated. the failure i encountered was that the vehicle failed to move or react when you applied the gas pedal, this is due to a serious gap in response time due to the toyota drive by wire process, software flash updates per the tsb-ecm are not solving the problem, which led to my accident, this problem may have the potential for causing serious injury or death as a result of not being able to accelerate out of harms way. i encourage toyota camry owners to return their vehicles per their states respective lemon laws or the federal magnuson-moss act. 2006 toyota has the highest complaint rating, 286 complaints, totaling 83.9% of the complaints. toyota has the top 3 spots for complaints on their vehicles the toyota camry was the most complained about vehicle from everyone in all groups 42 complaints, totaling 12.3% of all complaints. 2007 again toyota took 85 complaints, totaling 84.2% the top 3 vehicles were from toyota, the camry again is in place number 3 12 total complaints, totaling 11.9%, the highest now 2 years in a row. the reports were obtained from http://www.ncdsusa.org. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 35 mph, the variable valve timing oil supply hose ruptured. as a result, engine oil sprayed all over the exhaust system, engine, and down into the tail pipes. both front wheel wells began to smoke. upon further investigation, the contact found large puddles of engine oil. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that it would take over five weeks to obtain the part (hose) needed to make the repairs due to a national back order. the current and failure mileages were less than 69,000.

*tr

My 2007 camry xle 4 cyl/auto have 2 powertrain problems. 1) the engine has an excessive oil consumption problem. it burns a qt. of oil every 1,000 miles. twice in the last 10k miles a warning alarm came on, followed by alow eng oil pressure light. each time we found almost 2 qt. low-verified by dealer, who can't find any external leaks or smoke. after a lengthy 3rd visit to the dealer for extensive testing, they returned my car without finding the problem. toyota-engineering has no idea how to fix this problem either, so the dealer can only check/add oil weekly-indefinitely. 2) the transmission does not respond when entering/merging freeways. i must endure near-misses almost daily because the car won't go whenever i stump on the accelerater, causing me to have nightmares of being rear-ended on the freeway. this car is not safe and the manufacturer can't fix it! *jb

I have a 2007 camry xle with 13,000 miles. from the first day i purchased the car, it has had a severe hesitation when attempting to accelerate both from a stop and at highway speeds (passing, merging into traffic). in addition, the automatic transmission seems to slip between 2nd and 3rd gear (approximately 20 to 25 mph) before it locks into gear and begins to accelerate. this is most noticeable when the engine is cold. i told the toyota service department about the problems at my last oil change. they hooked it up to the computer and test drove and were not able to replicate the transmission slippage problem. i was also told that the acceleration delay was due to the computer needing to communicate with the engine, and this was a normal delay and that i would just have to get used to it. on several occasions this delay in acceleration has almost caused me to be in an accident. *jb

Throttle and transmission hesitation when starting out from stop, and when attempting to increase speed, ie: hazard avoidance, followed by speed overshoot. cruise control over reacted to slight grade increase, such as an overpass, by down shifting the transmission 1 to 2 gears and accelerating past set speed by 7 to 10 mph. car will slow to set speed and repeat the down shifting and acceleration until the cruise control was turned off or the road was leveled. during long up hill driving the cruise control has to be turned off completely as it presented a great possibility of causing an accident. the dealer maintaied s that the engine, transmission, and cruise control operated normally. *ak

I have a problem with my 2007 camry accelerating from a stopped or low speed position. i also have had to have the air conditioner condenser replaced due to a rock coming through the grill of the car and puncturing the condenser. i took the car to a toyota dealer in slidell, la as i was out of town. the dealer replaced the condenser for $625.00 at my expense. i was told there were no screens or any type of materials that could keep this from occurring again. there is however a tsb for the same thing on the 2007 corolla. i feel that toyota has a flaw in the grill of the 2007 camry and it should be remedied. on the issue of acceleration, i live in a congested traffic area in fl and do not feel that i can safely pull out into traffic unless i have a great deal of clearance. i feel that this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed by toyota. i am an avid fan of toyota products. this is my 3rd camry and i owned a scion tc as well so this is not about downing a toyota product. i believe in toyota. i just think now is the time to recognize a problem and remedy that for the consumer. i would hate for someone to get killed before they address this issue. *nm

I was driving with my wife in our 2007 toyota camry se and had a catastrophic failure of the oil supply hose at 60 mph. no engine warning lights came on at any time. in my rear view mirror i saw a huge cloud of smoke behind car. i pulled car to the side opened the hood and found oil on the engine. called toyota and had the car towed. they told me all the oil in the engine was gone and that this was a recall item. they replaced hose and oil but now i wonder if i have permanent damage to the engine. drove home and parked it. on 2/17/2010 i had a recall visit to the dealer on the accelerator pedal but no one informed me of this recall. one week ago i received a letters from toyota on more recalls (the oil hose was one). i tried to get an appointment but they were busy until april. this is not a small leak like they say in the notice-when it goes you think you have blown an engine with 6.5 quarts of oil hitting a the hot exhaust. i would think there is a distinct possibility of fire or loss of control. *tr

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

Rotten egg odor in the cabin. when the car is accelerated, a very strong odor invades the cabin of the car. we have to lower the windows to vent out the odor. toyota claims that this type of odor at the exhaust is caused by too much sulfur content in the gasoline, but the problem is that the odor is getting in the cabin. i understand that the gasoline has to pass certain standards and that the vehicle should be able to cope with any type of gasoline sold at us and it's territories. *tr
