Defect SummaryCertain all weather floor mats (awfm) specifically sold as an optional accessory for use on the 2007 and 2008 model year lexus es350 and toyota camry vehicles. the awfm includes two grommet holes and retaining hooks (clips) to secure the mat to the vehicle's carpet. if the awfm is not secured by itself or if it is placed on top of an existing carpeting floor mat, the mat could move forward during the vehicle usage and it may interfere with the accelerator pedal.
Consequence SummaryThe accelerator pedal may temporarily become stuck in a partially depressed position when returning to the idle position. if this condition occurs, it may increase the possibility of a crash.
Corrective SummaryToyota will notify owners of all 2007 and 2008 lexus es350 and toyota camry vehicles about the recall even though not all of these owners will have purchased the all weather mats. if the owner had not purchased the mats, they are not affected by the recall. this letter will advise owners when replacement mats will be available or how to return the all weather floor mat set to obtain a refund. a second letter will be sent after mats are available requesting owners to return their mats to a lexus or toyota dealer for exchange of the driver's side mat. the first letter is expected to be sent during early october 2007 and the second in late november 2007. owners can contact the lexus customer assistance center at 1-800-255-3987 or the toyota customer experience center at 1-888-270-9371.

On september 26, 2007, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that some of its model year (my) 2007 and 2008 lexus e350 and toyota camry vehicles could experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the optional all weather floor mat offered on those vehicles and the vehicles' accelerator pedal.this decision was influenced by an office of defects investigation (odi) engineering analysis.this recall was designated 07e082.two years later, on october 5, 2009, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that a number of its my 2004-2009 lexus and toyota vehicles may also experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver's floor mat.this recall was designated 09v388.several months later, on january 27, 2010, toyota filed an amended, or supplemental, defect information report and expanded the population of vehicles to include additional my 2008-2010 toyota and lexus vehicles.since this expansiontook place in a different calendar year, this recall was designated 10v023.separately on january 21, 2010, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that certain toyota vehicles and certain pontiac vibe vehicles contained a safety defect in the accelerator pedal assembly that may cause the accelerator pedal to become harder to depress, slower to return, or in the worse case, mechanically stuck in a partially depressed position.nhtsa designated this recall 10v017.in total, the four recalls cover over 7.6 million toyota and lexus vehicles as well as the pontiac vibe product made by new united motor manufacturing, inc., a venture of toyota and general motors corporation.nhtsa requires additional information from toyota to more fully understand and evaluate, among other things, whether the scope of the recalls identified above (makes, models and model years) is sufficiently broad.the agency is seeking to determine whether toyota viewed the underlying defects too narrowly as interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver

Driver side visor has failed. it has fallen completely down and will not stay in the upright position. i rarely use the visor. after some searching, i have found this is a huge problem. my visor blocks my view of the front road and also part of my rear view mirror. i contacted toyota headquarters in california and was given a case number. the rep stated that toyota is aware of the sun visor defect complaints and are calmly deciding if and how the complaints will be addressed. they stated that there will absolutely not be any repair assistance unless they decide to issue a recall. bascially saying this is my problem and that i have to deal with it no matter how costly. the dealer quoted $134 parts not including labor. i am not able to afford this expense at the moment and have removed the visor out of safety concerns for myself and family. from all of the complaints i have found, and by toyota

Drivers side sun visor broke and not easily replaced - should be recalled

The driver side sun visor on my 2007 toyota camry le broke. the plastic snapped which doesn't allow for the visor to stay in place and therefore blocks driver's view. when i looked at where the plastic broke, it seems as if the metal hinge that allows the visor to move up and down caused the plastic to snap in half (near the hinge). i have not yet repaired this as i've noticed that many people have had this issue and am hoping it will be recalled. currently it is being held together with clamps as a temporary solution. i use my visor on a normal basis (morning drive to block the sun, evening drive to block the sun).

Driver's side sun visor failure - toyota camry 2007 - drivng along and the visor just flopped down impeding drivers' view of the road! - internal mechanism broke - visor stays hanging down, driver has to hold it up until at destination - have read multiple complaints of same - with little cooperation from toyota in resolving this issue - this needs to be a recall - it is a defective component and is a safety concern!

2007 camry indigo blue paint scratches. under each entry door handle there are tons of scratches, as if you have many rings on your fingers scratching the paint. i bought the car new in 2007 and this issue presented itself from the beginning. it's like the top layer of paint will not stay on because you can see the primer layer right under the blue paint scratches.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated there is a moldy musty smell coming from the air conditioning vents. when the contact is driving the vehicle their eyes itch and they start to sneeze. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer several times and at first all that was done was an air fresher was spared. then the dealer sprayed foam into the vents, but that did not work either. this has caused the contact to frequently have to visit the doctor. the doctor stated that this has caused them to have sinus infections. the failure always occurs when the weather starts to get warm. the vin number was not available at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was not known, but the current mileage was 30000.rl

While driving my 2007 toyota camry, the sun visor slipped down into my line of sight. i had to pull over and try to fold/ snap it back in place. then i noticed that the arm piece, that inserts into the actual sun visor was broken/ cracked. i had to drive holding the sun visor out of my vison with one hand and the other hand on the stering wheel. when i went to the toyota dealership to order a replacement part, i was told that i was the third person in two weeks with the same complanint on the same model car. the part could not be ordered from the distribution place because the sun visors were on back order. i had to remove my hanging sun visor because it was a risk and i have not had it replaced because of the back order. in addition, i am the only driver of my car and to my knowledge there was no incident in which the sun visor was damaged.

On april 27, 2010, i was backing out of a parking space. i usually back out of a parking space very slowly so that i can stop at anytime. after i had cleared the parking space and before i could exchange gears, the car (2007 toyota camry) kept on reversing. i put my foot on tne break but the car did not stop. it stopped when it hit a van which was adjacent to a police car. luckily the poilice officer witnessed the entire accident. when the police officer approached my car he stated that i thought you were going to hit me. i replied by saying myy car would not stop; i could stop the car. i informed the police officer that when i put my foot on the brake, the car continued to accelerate. the police report indicates that there was a problem with the acceleration. this statement is also want the mechanic said when he put the car in reverse to work on the car.

I own a 2007 toyota camry le. i reported this problem to the dealer in redding, ca about the cruise control system within a month of ownership; however, they said it is normal operation. i doubt it very much, how the cruise control resumes back to the set speed almost instantly by raising the rpm over 5000, which will make you feel the car is going out of control. i have been driving cars for over 30 years and own many makes and models but none of them behaved in this way. this was my first toyota car, i strongly believe the car maker should look in to the cruise control systems that might give tem clues about accidental acceleration problems that i am hearing regularly.

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

On 6-12-2009 approximately 5pm. i had an incident with my 2007 toyota camry. we were on vacation, driving to southern shores, nc. stopped at: the virginia diner got in the camry. to start the car that is equipped with the option, smart key, you must depress the foot brake and push the start button to start the engine. again, to place the car in gear, the foot brake must be depressed. i placed the car in reverse and the engine began to race with the brake being push as hard as i could, the car couldn't be held. it moved backward. i hit a parked pickup truck and drove it into a suv parked next to it. the incident took only seconds. i exchanged information with the owners of the damaged vehicles. someone called the sussex co. sheriff, who arrived, checked for injuries. there were none and he said, that this happening on private property without injuries, means he would not submit a police report. my camry was received the most damage, about $5,000.00. it was drivable and the trunk lid stayed latched and was able to be opened with the dash release. nationwide insurance paid all of the damages. my deductible was $500.00. i had no idea how this happened and assumed it was user error. with the news reports and receiving the recall notice from toyota. the toyota floor mat was attached to the floor with the safety catches. i removed the mat as directed. i feel that the accident was caused by a system error. i took my '07 camry to my dealer, toyota of greensburg after my explanation, the service manager, told me that i shouldn't be driving the car and rented a loaner car for me. he said, that a corporate service representative would examine my auto. i'm waiting to hear from the dealer. *tw

Since there is recall on the toyota camry i have one. why have i not received a letter this could put me and my child in danger or kill both of us. i think it is wrong that i had to here it from the tv instead of from the toyota dealerships. nothing has happen to my car yet and hopely not. but how can i make sure it will be safe and if not what are they going to do give me something else to drive if this dose not fix the problem*cw

2007 toyota camry manufacturer's defect of the air conditioning system. emits a strong musty mold smell. the company is aware of this problem and has done nothing. dealership performed a temporary foam treatment that might last a year and sprayed a chemical inside the vent system. the possibility of mold in the system exists and could cause severe aggravation of already existing allergy problems. i have read many complaints from all over the country. i think it's time to hold toyota accountable. *tr

On saturday 1/12/08 the accelerator on my 2007 toyota camry stuck to the floor!! i pumped the pedal a few times but that didn't free it. i had to slip it into neutral and cut the engine. i was able to safely coast into a parking lot but was highly upset! i looked down and did not see anything interfering with the pedal, so i placed the vehicle into park and started it up and pumped the pedal again. it slowly came out. (it felt as though hydraulic pressure had been released.) i put it into drive and slowly pulled forward. it seemed ok so i drove it slowly straight to the dealer. when i got there i told them what happened. (if this had happened when my 68 yr. old mother in law was driving my children to school in this car as she usually does, i don't think she would have reacted as i did!) the dealership called me less than two hours later and told me that they had already checked my car and that there was nothing was wrong with it. they said they thought my car mat had gotten stuck on the accelerator (not one of theirs, but a very heavy thick rubber one.) i explained i had looked down to see if anything was stuck once i had the vehicle safely stopped and could see nothing interfering with the pedal! they told me they were basing this assumption on the fact that there was an outline for my car mat near the gas pedal. i told them, adamantly, that i didn't care where the outline was, that i had visually inspected it and that nothing was stuck! they informed me that, that was their position on the matter and basically the explanation they were sticking to. i don't feel this car is safe! i have lost my confidence in toyota and seriously doubt i will ever purchase another. *tr

The driver's side visor broke. it flopped down and would not stay out of the way of the drivers' vision. it was dangerous to the operation of the vehicle. it had to be completely removed. the car was less than 4 years old and although it seems to be faulty workmanship the visor is not covered under warranty.

The driver's sun visor has dropped on both of our 2007 camry's that we own. one is so bad that we removed it because you can't see with it down. however, if you are driving east or west you are blinded by the sun. the othe car is just as bad because the visor won't stay up. this too is a problem for driver safety and for the safety of others!!! this isn't a coincidence that out of all camrys sold that we got the two where the visors failed. there needs to be a recall!! why should the owner be held to paying for this expense when it is a factory defect?

I was driving don't remember the date but early part of tis year the visor on the driver just drop almost hit the car in front of me. it started like getting hard to snap back in place at first but just drop. the visor on passenger side did the same thing bout two week later took it todealer he told me it was nothing they could do wasn't a recall so i had to pay for it. needly to say i have no job and no visor. this car was new when i bought it in the last of 2009,with 307 miles. and it nothing can be done i see all these other people with the same problems on this gov.site and nothing been done yet i guess someone got to get hurt or kill first. why hasn't it been a recall to correct this problem.

I was driving a 2007 camry in san jose, california on january 29, 2009. involved in a solo accident and i suffered a concussion so i have amnesia about the actual accident. post-accident photographs from the investigator from mercury insurance company confirms in two separate photos that carpeted floor mat was wedged up into the brake/accelerator area. i have filed a civil lawsuit against toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. in santa clara county. toyota has yet to accept responsibility for accident. first case management conference is scheduled for may of this year. *tr

2007 runaway toyota problem-dot has put out a recall notice on my 2007 toyota camry le indicating that toyota's remedy of removing the drivers side floor mat does not resolve the problem and that there is an unindentified safety deficiency. since the problem in all probability relates to a computer chip governing the accelerator or the functioning of the accelerator pedal, permitting millions of toyotas to operates with a hidden safety hazard is inappropriate. toyota should be required in a very short finite time period to resolve the problem or recall the cars and reimburse owners. defective cars that can cause deaths should not be permitted to roam the highways. *tr

Purchased a 2007 camry le, 4 door, on 12/12/06. cruise control has failed many times. when going down hill with the cruise on the car will keep accelerating to very unsafe speeds. this started from the date of purchase. i went through arbitration in march of 2007 and was told by the arbitrator that there has been an unreasonable amount of repair attempts for the same nonconformist that will impair the use, value and safety of the vehicle since dec.2006. the problem has not been corrected and i don't use the cruise control. i have found that this problem has caused deaths, the latest in california, and several wrecks even in the area where i live. how many lives must be taken before toyota will step up to bat and make a recall on this defective cruise control. the floor mats that toyota is saying will cause this problem might be in part the cause but certainly not the root of the problem. i have been trying to get this situation addressed since the purchase of this vehicle and the near wrecks that i have almost encountered to no avail. the arbitrator did agree with my complaints but as stated above there had not been enough attempts provided by the dealership to correct the problem. how many times must one take a vehicle to the dealership with the same complaint before any action will be taken. i feel my life is more important than the runaround that i have received from toyota and this is a very serious safety malfunction of the vehicle. i have all sorts of documentation to back my complaint and my 2007 camry is not the only vehicle on the road with this safety issue. i was told by toyota that the design had been changed with the 2007's and certainly the symptoms are consistent with control system malfunction but they did not know how to fix the problem. *tr
