I was driving along at about 40mph when all of a sudden there was no power going to the wheels. the engine was running but no power was going to the wheels. luckily, i was on a city street and i was able to coast around a corner. i put the car in park and caught my breath, and then when i put it in gear it ran okay. the next day, the same thing happened again--loss of power--coasting to a stop. i double checked and the car was in fact in drive--but no power to the wheels. i took the car to the dealer and they replaced the hybrid ecm (which they have retained) and the park/neutral safety switch. (which i have)

Car will hesitate for nearly 3 seconds when pressing the accelerator hard to enter a freeway from 30-40mph on the entrance ramp. does not repeat itself as the car has to be under a certain load, throttle position, and speed. the randomness of the issue will leave you startled and cringing in fear of a near miss. engine seems to stall then transmission will finally drop down one gear which is not enough to bring the engine rpm up. then at the last moment, the transmission downshifts and the motor comes alive. happens sometimes when passing. all other times it is ok. this is going to get someone killed. taking it to the dealership is useless as they deny, deny, deny and state they can't replicate. it is a definite software issue between the engine ecu and the transmission ecu. what is the purpose of a 268bhp v6 engine if you can not utilize that power when needed?

I bought 07 camry from local toyota dealership in 2007. from the start i've noticed the car was consuming oil. there is no trace of leak anywhere but was taking oil. without much thought, i would add oil as needed. as the mileage start to rack up, the problem is too obvious and it is getting worse. at the beginning, i did not know how much oil was being consumed. then i stared to use ticker oil hoping the problem would go away. it did not and i am still using ticker oil (5w20 to 5w30) oil consumption problem, i think is progressively getting worse. the car now has 65,000 miles and late last summer (2011) i've seen oil adding every month (about every 1,000 miles). local dealer said a quart every 1,000 miles is normal. service manager is saying that toyota stated the consuming a quart every 1,000 mile is normal. so go complain to toyota corp is what they said. i felt like i was talking to a brick wall. dealership said i should go through oil consumption test, which i stated the process in december of 2011. they had put in half inch above the full mark on the dipstick, which i would have though they would have noted this. after i come back after 1,000 miles, oil consumption was there but they claim 1/2 quart in 1,000 miles. not considering how much they have over filled or had any idea of that fact. i started looking into this in web and also learned that dealership uses additive to not consume oil in consumption testing. i cannot win over dishonest experts at the dealership. this is a serious problem. i cannot sell this car as i am not about to lie about the oil consumption to a buyer. who would want to buy my car that consumes a quart every 1,000 mile. i can tell a buyer this is normal in toyota standard; would a buyer understand this? toyota is trying to turn away their problem onto their customer.

2007 toyota camry *gr ***consumer has attached a complaint from another consumer *gr the consumer stated he had two corrections done to the throttle system and the acceleration which is still not normal, but acceptable compared to what it was originally. the cruise control was still faulty, but the consumer devised a way to work around the problem, not convenient but it worked. the consumer also complained about a delayed acceleration problem. the acceleration delay moved from 0 rpm to about 2000 rpm where it would go flat for about two seconds and then raced to about 4,000 rpm before settling down. *jb

In 2007 we leased a new camry along with another new toyota product on the same day. my wife has had the accelerator stick on her and she had to use the emergency brake to stop the car and ran off the road. she narrowly avoided having a terrible accident in the car while my four year old daughter was in the car with her. the dealership picked up the car and attempted to fix it. the first time my wife drove the car the accelerator stuck again. they have since came and picked it up again and have had it for almost two weeks with no progress or solutions offered. the car is unsafe and they have no solutions to fix it. they tell us they're waiting on toyota engineers to come but have no date or time that will happen. my wife is terrified of the car and rightfully so. there are only 15 months left on the lease and we just want them to purchase the car back. it is leased through toyota financial. this has been going on for too long for them to have no solutions for a repair.

After rice toyota in greensboro fixed my 2007 toyota camry on 2/27/2010 for both recalls i have experienced a sudden surge in acceleration twice. once from a standing start when i slightly depressed the accelerator and the car suddenly took off at a much higher rate than i intended, the second time was in traffic while accelerating to a higher speed limit the car surged past the limit. please look at the ecu's, this car hasn't been right since the first tank of gas was used, it's as is the ecu isn't allowing the timing to advance and retard properly. *tr

2007 toyota camry pedal issues*cw the consumer stated twice in the 4 years he has owned the vehicle, the engine would rev while in park. the first time it happened, he thought he inadvertently hit the accelerator. however it happened more recently and he knows for a fact it had nothing to do with the gas pedal. recently, the consumer noticed a serious hesitation problem while driving. sometimes when the consumer pressed the pedal, the vehicle accelerated smoothly, other times it seemed as though there was no gas going into the engine, and then all of a sudden the vehicle would take off. the consumer believed the problem was transmission or fuel injected related. *jb

There is a few seconds delay when depressing the accelerator pedal on my '07 camry se. i have mentioned this problem with the car from the very beginning to others who say they also have that issue with their camry. any delay in acceleration is a safety hazard on the highway. now with all the defects that toyota seems to have been denying with the acceleration system i realize it is even more grave. *tr

3-4 second delay in response time when making a fast lane change - enough time to cause a serious accident. this happened once in heavy city traffic and once in the evening when there was little traffic. the dealership performed an ecm calibration enhancement to correct another problem of hesitation with the acceleration & then a quick surge forward. this was performed after the first incident; however, it did not correct my current problem as the hesitation happened again (the 2nd time) after the calibration. discussed this at length with the dealership. i was informed that the ecm calibration was the only fix provided to them and that since i still had the problem, i would have to be very careful to not press the accelerator quickly to make a fast getaway as the computer is not able to pick up the signal that quickly. they could only suggest that i never press the accelerator quickly - try that one when you have to move out of the way fast. i am not trying to make something more of this than it is. there are some much more serious problems reported on the internet than this one. however, it is serious. when you cannot get gas when you need it, it is serious. there is apparently a problem with their electronics. *tr

I have a 2007 camry 4cyldr automatic, that has problems accelerating. this usually happens at least once a day. for example if i take off from a red light or a stop, the car will hesitate like it is stalling and then will proceed to take off. this is an inconsistent problem that when i complained at the dealership they could not reproduce the problem. the other example is that the car exhibits is that when you take your foot off the gas pedal the car will slow down but as you re-apply your foot the car will hesitate or stall until you remove your foot and re-apply it. i have 60000 miles on my car and it has had all the timely services done to it. it has been a great car up until about a year ago when the problem began. roughly 45000 miles ago. i fear that this may result in an inability to drive defensively and result in an accident. neither my wife nor i are aggressive drivers, and we don't feel that this is as a result of harsh driving. i did take the car into the dealer to find out if it was part of the gas pedal recall that is going on and they said that it was not. i hope that toyota will make a timely decision on this as i had hoped to purchase another toyota in the future. *tw

On april 22, 2009, an oil line part #15707-31030 ruptured on our 2007 toyota camry vin very rapidly pumping oil from the engine and requiring immediate repair. since april 2009, while investigating reimbursement for repair costs, several toyota service representatives from local dealerships stated that toyota has identified this model engine in avalon vehicles as having this same ruptured oil line defect as occurred on my vehicle. since july 2009 while seeking reimbursement for engine repairs with toyota customer service, i requested that this issue be pursued internal to identify this defect through technical bulletin or recall for camry vehicles. on january 6, 2010, i spoke to miguel lopez, supervisor, toyota customer experience, department wc10, toyota motor sales, u.s.a., reference this issue and he stated very clearly that no action or follow-up phone calls or other communication would be taken by his office to investigate this safety issue with camry?s. he stated that safety concerns would have to be taken through a local dealership. mr. lopez stated he was the senior supervisor and he would not connect me to any other supervisor or point of contact within toyota. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. after purchasing the vehicle on october 31, 2006, the contact noticed that there was a lack of acceleration in the vehicle. while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated. the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floor, but the vehicle still hesitated to pick up speed and then suddenly sped off. the dealer found no failures; however, they later asked her to bring the vehicle back for repairs. after the repairs, the vehicle continued to lack acceleration. the contact returned to the dealer and repaired again. the vehicle was serviced a total of seven times and the dealer stated that they updated the vehicle; however, the failure persists. the failure mileage was 3,000 and current mileage was 26,500.

Intermittently, the vehicle will not respond to the throttle. the problem happens frequently, particularly when i brake and decelerate from above 30mph, then make a turn, such as exiting an off ramp, at about 5-20 mph, i press the accelerator to accelerate out of the turn, and the throttle does not respond for about 3 to 15 seconds. i consider this a serious safety issue where i cannot depend on the vehicle responding to the throttle allowing me to control the vehicle. this problem happens under other circumstances, and is completely unpredictable, but the above scenario is the most consistent. i took the vehicle to toyota for this issue for the second time and was told:

My wife had backed her 2007 toyota camry out of our garage onto the driveway to wash the car. the driveway is on a medium incline. she was in the process of cleaning the inside of the car along with our granddaughter. the car was in park and the ignition key in her pocket. after cleaning the inside passenger compartment with our granddaughter in the driver side she was in the process of walking around the front of the car in order to clean the driver compartment when our granddaughter was moving to the passenger side she hit the automatic transmission shifter it came out of park and rolled across the ally into the neighbors back fence. my wife got into the car and drove to the front of the house put the car in park, removed the key and was able to take the car out of park without her foot on the brake and the key removed. we took the car to toyota dealer. the next day we picked the car up from the dealer and were told they could not duplicate the problem. they told us to take the car and if it happened again leave the car as is with the car out of gear, call them and they would send a tow truck. the next day my wife drove the car to the shopping mall. when she returned the car she was able to take the car out of park with the key out of the ignition. she was unable to get the service rep on the phone so she drove home and parked the car in the garage. approximately 15 minutes later we all went out to the car and had her son try to take the car out of park without the key in the ignition which he did. there was no resistance in the shifter when removing from park and could freely move the shifter. we left the shifter in the drive position and called the dealer who sent a tow truck and had the drive verify the car could be shifted with the key out. the rep called and said the could not duplicate the problem. we have been trying to tell them all the have to do is drive the car for 15 min, wait 15 min then move out of park. the rep is not cooperating.

I was driving for work with my toyota camry 2007. while accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. in a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. my car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. this incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommedations of the toyota recall procedure. i could have been easily killed in this accident. i got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. i am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error.

I have toyota camry 2007. i had experienced the rpm shooting up in low acceleration. i took the vehicle to dealer for repair in early feb 2010, but the dealer detected no problem. however, as the problem persisted and it happened frequently, so i took the video of speedometer and tachometer, and went back to dealer with the video. mechanics at the dealer tried to duplicate the problem with computer hooked to my car, and i drove the car with them. but again, the problem could not be duplicated. dealer advised me that this has nothing to do with sudden acceleration of toyota vehicles, and asked me to come back if the problem persists. toyota did not perform any repair at that time. however, after this visit to the dealer, i have not experienced the same problem as frequently. i may have noticed it few times in the past month although i feel that acceleration seem unsteady. no accident has occurred, and i do not have sudden acceleration problem as reported on the news. however, i am concerned that the problem i have might be related to the sudden acceleration problem. i would like to provide the video if it can help nhtsa's current investigation for sudden acceleration of toyota vehicles. the consumer felt the transmission temporarily disengaged or down shifted temporarily. the rpm jumped about 200-500 rpms momentarily. when it happened, the consumer felt an abrupt, but slight jerk, but it didn't accelerate in an uncontrolled manner. updated 04/29/10 *jb

My car is a 2007 camry xlev6, and was not listed as part of the toyota recall (it has locking mats). pulled into driveway at my home, with foot on brakes as i touched auto garage door opener on visor. car gear was in d. as i removed foot from brake to gas pedal to pull into garage, and lightly placed foot on accelerator, instantaneously engine revved, pedal went to floor, tach zoomed and auto jetted into garage. i immediately hit brakes with both feet, attempting to disengage transmission from d and put into n. gear shift erratically plunged into r and car began to go backwards with engine throttle wide open. again, with tires squealing, smoking & laying rubber, i tried to jam gearshift to n or p, and car jettisoned forward hitting garage wall at full force. with millisecond recovery, i held onto gearshift

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

On feb 10, 2010 my 07 toyota camry accel pedal stuck on me, 5 days after the recall was done on it. it revved from 2000-4000 rpms, i had to brake hard for it to stop and regain control. took it into toyota, they looked at it, returned the car and told me nothing was wrong. on march 4, 2010 it happened again, this time it accelerated from 20 mph to 40 mph in a split second, and i almost hit the car in front of me. again i had brake hard to gain control of my vehicle. toyota again looked over my car, and again came up with nothing wrong with my car. so that is two times after the recall was completed that my has accelerated. it also did accelerate before the recall. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) 2007 camry accelerates at a whim for 2-3 seconds. it happens very in frequent, the last time about 3-4 months ago. has been taken to dealer and they state can not do anything, unless it happens or is reproduced for them. i reported this by phone to nhtsa but have not gotten any feed back as i was told i would receive and e-mail and follow up letter.  My 2007 camry hesitates when trying to accelerate from a standstill, and rpm keeps dropping from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm for a second and back to 2000 rpm as i'm trying to maintain speed. it could make my car to slide on icy road because of this engine braking, and it happens every time i just touch gas pedal and let go rpm drops and goes back to cruising rpm all in 1 second. this happens as soon as i remove my foot of the gas pedal, causing like braking feeling. i told toyota dealership in guelph, ontario about this problem but their master service advisor craig allen says that is normal. i believe that there is electronic throttle issue. *tr

Purchased a 07 camry from down east toyota in maine 6-2-07 noticed next day a dangerous hesitation problem with car, called det service dept 2-4-07 with complaint i was told to drive for a week so car could learn driving habits, so i did. pulled into traffic several times that week and few times the car would hesitate and jump forward, on 6-11-07 called det service dept again because that morning trying to pull out of driveway car hesitated jumped forward almost hitting a ups truck, very dangerous!! while talking to service dept this time i was told that driving the camry for a week would not help the hesitation problem but not to worry because like the 07 v6 camry they had to pull all off the lot for transmission problems when and if toyota comes up with a fix they would let me know. i traded the camry back in because of the dangerous hesitation problem and lost 7000.00 in ten days?? when i questioned kevin kelly the general mgr i was told by him that he did hold a gun to my head to buy the camry or to trade it back in, and nothing i could do about loosing 7000.00 because he can do as he wants. the salesman don scott told us that the saturday he sold us our camry he sold three and two have come back because of this problem, tracy simpson at paper signing told us that she also heard of this problem. with being told no fix for a dangeous problem like this, trading a car back in 10 days losing 7000.00 is just wrong!!! now to this date three tsb's out for this dangerous problem that becomes normal when tsb fail to fix problem. is this dangerous hesitation problem related to the socalled floor mat turned to gas pedal problem?? just not right for det or toyota to keep getting away with this??? *tr

I have 2007 camry. while driving between 40 and 60 mph, when i peddled the accelerator the car does not pick up/accelerate. the rpm goes from 2000 to 4000 rpm, and after a couple of seconds of delay car picks up. it's very dangerous, especially, while merging onto a freeway where there is no shoulder lane and you have to merge in really fast. the dealer said it's a problem with the software and they updated the software in my car. i still have the same problem and it occurs frequently in winter. i went to the dealer recently and they said there is nothing wrong with the transmission, it's just the way 2007 models are. in other words, they made a piece of junk in 2007 and now they can not do anything about it. i am hoping to see the recall for this issue soon. *tr

The new 2007 camry has always had an uneven acceleration and slowing. it is as though the transmission is always searching for the correct gear. as a result, the engine is always changing speeds. during the initial repair, the service manager stated that they have a lot of these types of complaints and said the software was updated. on subsequent repairs i was told the same thing and that toyota could not repair the problem that the 2007 camrys had. when i asked about serious damage to the transmission or accidents i was told that i have a warranty. i e-mailed toyota but did not receive a response. i believe this is a potential safety issue and am uncomfortable driving the vehicle. *tr

I own a 2007 toyota camry se v6. i have experienced since the day i bought it where i can be driving along and when i slow down, the engine will rev and the tachometer will go up to around 4,000 rpm and then what seems like 30 seconds or more, the gears will finally catch and the car will go and all this results in a jerk like reaction giving me a whiplash feeling. it can happen at any speed and the latest experience happened when i was going around 55 mph, on the highway which was very full with traffic. it was very frightening not to mention a main concern as to if the car were to lose power, i would have to somehow coast to the side of the highway and where i was there wasn't much room to pull over. *jb

2007 camry xle. problems with hesitation when accelerating. the dealership just blew me off when i explained the problem. acted as if this was never a problem with camrys. also have had problems with steering column's radio controls - when pressing the appropriate buttons, nothing would happen or, when seeking stations that were programmed in, the down or up buttons would jump to other stations not programmed. since this problem is erratic, nothing was done by dealer. problems with the outdoor temperature gauge - at times, it would take 15-20 minutes before the temperature would change to the correct one. example: it read 77 degrees when it was actually in the mid-90s. dealership did repair this last summer but now, it is reading seven+ degrees off the actual outdoor temperature. the final problem with this car is that the paint is chipping off of the frame area below the doors of the car. this has never happened with any previous car i have owned. dealer attributed it to the fact that this car is the sport version so it rides lower. first toyota i have owned and it looks like it may be my last. *tr

Vehicle retains cruise control speed in memory even after applying brakes and stopping. goes back to cruise control speed instead of responding to gas pedal and rams into the vehicle in front. vehicle revs up and down for no reason when in cruise control even when traveling on flat terrain/freeway. complaints to local toyota dealer did not help until the accident, did an upgrade to the software which has helped but little, problem still remains. *tr

I was driving down an open road at a moderate speed (about 40 mph). the vehicle suddenly began to accelerate. i stepped on the brake pedal but this only caused the engine to rev. i continued to press on the brake pedal with a great deal of force and was eventually with difficulty able to bring the vehicle to a stop even though the engine continued to be revving very high. i put the car in park and turned off the engine. after waiting for a few seconds, i turned the vehicle back on again. the engine was still revving out of control. i turned the vehicle back off and waited a few seconds then tried again. the engine was still revving very high. on the third or fourth try of this cycle, the engine finally started normally. i was then able to drive away at a normal speed. i took the vehicle to a toyota dealer on 6/18/09. they checked it with a scan tool and did a road test but could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. this was a one-time event and has never happened again. the dealer said that the problem was likely caused by a floor mat but i find this simply impossible to believe. i checked the pedals after stopping the car and they were not obstructed in any way. *tr

I have a 2007 toyota camry that i purchased new. since new the automatic transmission hesitates when the car is slowed to about 20mph and when you try to accelerate nothing happens for a few seconds before it resumes. the dealer said they cannot do anything about it and that's the way a drive by wire transmission works. i called the toyota hotline and got nowhere. i seems that i am not the only one with this complaint. the internet is loaded with dissatisfied owners. i think toyota should be made to address this problem because it is a safety issue. i've bought at least twenty new toyotas over the yrs and never had a problem like this. it occurs all the time. *tr

From the time i purchased the car i noticed that when i floored the gas pedal or just stepped on it to pass a car, there would be a hesitation of 4-5 seconds before it would wind up and then go. i talked to the dealer who said that yes they were having problems with the early models of 2007's and he got approval from toyota to replace the transmission. this did not fix the problem, i went back to the dealer and they stated that a new program needed to be installed on the transmission. they did it but it is still the same. on 10-25-08 i went to the dealer to again complain and they said that i would just have to live with it. i feel that this is a safety issue because when you accelerate you need the car to respond, which it will not do. *tr

Soon after purchasing the car, we discovered a terrible problem with the cars acceleration. it only happened intermittently; when you were slowing then had to accelerate quickly. pressing the gas pedal would result a long hesitation. this very often put the driver in danger. soon after the purchase, we took the car into the toyota dealer. they told us that the car was operating as designed with the new computer system that adjusts to drivers habits. we have been living with this problem for almost 2 years now, and have decided to get rid of the car. prior to selling it, i did a search on the internet looking to see if anyone else was experiencing the problem. i found an article at this consumer affairs link. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/10/toyota_accelerate.html. *tr

I have had my computer software re-installed 2x to attempt to fix a lack of acceleration. several times (making a left turn) while starting from a stop, the car will hesitate for 2-4 seconds, giving approaching cars enough time to come close to hitting my car. this has happened numerous times. i am afraid to drive this car and am not in a financial position to trade it in yet or sell it outright. i owe too much on the loan yet to do so, making it a difficult decision with my family/children. i have noticed that the slow acceleration is more so in warm weather. it doesn't seem to flare-up over wintertime. coincidence? i also wanted to mention that the last time my software was re-set, on the way home, the engine began ro race and it felt like a brick was on the gas pedal. the engine raced for about 10 seconds and then felt like it shifted back to normal rpm's. i was going down a hill when this happened. *tr

I purchased a 2007 toyota camry, v-6, in july 2006. in november 2006, i started having problems with the transmission. very often, when the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear, the transmission hesitates, the tachometer jumps around 1500 and the car does not move for a short time. this happens on a daily basis. i have had the car into the dealer, 4 or 5 times, and have gone on test drives. when the problem happened, i was told that's the way the transmission works. i have called toyota on two separate occasions. i have been told that there is no software update or tsb for this problem. the last person i spoke with (last month), told me it is a design flaw, but toyota has not done anything to correct the problem. i consider this a safety issue, since i don't always get the acceleration that i need. consumer reports reported on this problem in their december 2007 issue. they received negative information from readers about the v-6 transmission. i have been told by toyota that there is nothing they can do at this time. *tr

2007 toyota camry le, 5-speed, 4-cylinder has a drivetrain problem. when moving slowly from a stop, attempting to pull into traffic requiring rapid acceleration results in no response/acceleration from the engine. the car can take up to 5-seconds to respond. this is highly dangerous and i wonder why i haven't already been killed in this car!! there is a major problem with acceleration. toyota simply says that's the way it works, it's trying to anticipate your actions. this is an unacceptable answer. the transmission i am told is a controlled electronically and toyota apparently has screwed up the software. this is a dangerous car. *tr

We own a 2007 toyota camry se and honestly don't know what to do at this point, our experience has been terrible. approximately november of 07, i was driving down the conejo grade in camarillo, california and started to feel like i was losing control of the car, i couldn't steer it and hit the brakes really hard to come to a stop without hitting any other vehicles. the car was towed to toyota who explained that the transmission needed to be replaced and the reason why i couldn't steer my car was something to do with how the transmission rotates the wheels and one wheel was pointed towards the right and one was where it should be. i could have been killed or hurt someone else and i was very upset especially after hearing that i wasn't the only one this has happened to. at this time i was told that my brakes were warped and i had to pay $180.00 to fix them, apparently when i hit my breaks real hard to try and stop the car without crashing i warped the breaks. this wasn't under warranty. i received the car back approximately a week later and was told they put in a new transmission. when i left the dealership the engine still didn't feel right it was lunging. so i brought the car back and they did a test drive with me in the car and of course it didn't do it. i have had off and on issues and now my maintenance light is on, after being at the dealership for the last 10 days with other issues. i have no trust or faith at this point with them. most of all, the car doing it's own driving with the transmission and the failing of mine could have killed me or someone else. how many complaints need to be made before someone gets hurt. the 2007 camry is a problem, and honestly i'm afraid to drive it at this point. *tr

I purchased a 2007 toyota camry on december 24, 2006. on monday, february 11, 2008 i shifted the car into reverse and put my foot on the gas, the car didn't move. it revved but didn't move. i shifted to drive and second with the same result. i brought the car in to toyota in hempstead, ny on feb. 18. they fixed it by reprogramming the computer,: and returned the car to me, saying it was fine. the problem occurred again on saturday, february 23. i asked about getting a new transmission because i have read a lot of information that this particular transmission is bad. i would like toyota to recall and replace all of these transmissions. i would hate to have an accident or for anyone else to have an accident because of a transmission malfunction. *tr

Purchased 2007 toyota camry 4 cyl. have had trouble with the car accelerating speed. has happened over a dozen times. in october was on a residential street - car accelerated and i swerved to miss boy on bike (damage to bumper) hit curb. also, when trying to merge from stop will hit pedal - hesitation car does not move - have almost been hit 3 times. have had car back to dealership - they pretend they have not heard of any problems. shortly after purchasing my car they had a meeting for all new car owners. five couples reported the same problem. when i called in december for a check into this problem (have been in touch with toyta - who also deny knowing of any problems - contacted them because i did not want car - afraid to drive) - the manager said he had heard of no such complaints. reminded him that myself and five other new car owners had complained to him at the meeting. toyota is going to have big problems - must have told managers to deny any problems!!!!! as they themselves are doing. how many people have to be in an accident. i have told my family that if i am in a fatal car accident - i want them to sue toyota. afraid to drive car. had car to dealership - since the two problems i stated only happen sporadically - they said they test drove car and saw no problems. don't know how far they test drove - mileage at pickup was the exact same as drop off reading. car had same problems on the way home - can you help me and any other toyota owners. can't afford to trade in car. please help me - what can i do. *tr

Ongoing problem with my 2007 camry sedan le i am feeling and hearing vibration and noise coming from underneath the seat this has been back and forth to dealership and reported to toyota motor sales, the dealer and motor sales told me that this is normal with these types of cars. i find this hard to believe i have researched on consumer reports and found alot of problems with the transmission. i need this resolved and need to know if it the transmission shouldn't this be covered under my warranty? i know toyota does not want to hear this complaint as it would interfere in there great report on how they are a great gas saving car, but what will it take to have this resolved hopefully not a fatality. *tr

Severe hesitation in throttle and transmission of the 2007 camry causing near t-bone accidents when you give it gas and go nowhere. also when traveling, when you give it gas to get into another lane, you go nowhere for a delayed period then all of a sudden you launch forward after its too late almost running into cars in front of you. appears as if the transmission is confused. many near accidents because of this. contacted toyota who agreed to flash the computer or reset it. this reset helped at first, at take off only, however now is back to what it was doing before. contacted toyota again and was told that there is nothing they can do. this is very dangerous... *tr

I'm writing to detail my issues with my 07 toyota camry v6. i have had it one year and the hesitation upon accelerating is still there even after a supposed 'fix' by my selling dealer. the tranny sometimes hesitates as much as 2-3 seconds b4 actually moving forward as intended. i also have extreme frustration with the interior plastics. the dash rattles more than my old 97 pontiac. the other major issue is the softness of the driver seat foam. i am due in 2 days for a re-foaming of the seat. hopefully that will firm it up a bit. one last point is the tires wore out by 13k on them making me spend over $300.00 for new rubber. not acceptable for a $25,000 car. *tr

The cruise control/transmission on my 2007 camry causes the car to operate in an unsafe manner. when the cruise control is engaged, due to its sensitivity, the transmission goes through a series of abrupt downshifts causing the car to accelerate and exceed the cruise control speed setting. at this point, the car looses speed and the transmission then shifts back into overdrive. the downshifting starts again until the speed control setting is exceeded. on a long hill, it is not uncommon for the transmission to sequence between overdrive and third gear four or five times. the exceeding of the cruise control setting is very dangerous. i have had to engage the brakes to avoid an accident with traffic ahead of me. i have brought the car back to the dealer for this problem and have been told that he can do nothing until toyota comes up with a fix. i have written two letters to toyota asking them to fix this problem they have not replied to either letter. *tr

Speed control is unstable. when the speed control is on at highway speed, the slightest grade i.e. from an overpass, causes the transmission to downshift one or two gears. then the car will accelerate beyond the setspeed and then upshift. the car will then be unable to maintain speed again, downshift one or 2 gears, and once again accelerate beyond the set speed, repeating over and over and worsening each cycle. driving the same road with the speed control off is relatively normal. this car also has a moderate hesitation problem. pulling out from a side street, the car barely accelerates until rpms reach 2200, then accelerates normally. this has been since new. coasting down a long grade with speed control off, the car will surge. returned to the toyota dealer who said there is nothing wrong. *tr

I bought a 2007 camry se v6 and have had nothing but problems with it. transmission slips, creaking dash and windshield, a pillar airbag cover replaced 3 times, center console stack does not line up, dash is not flush next to a & b pillars (haven't seen one yet that was), knocking noise in rear strut tower (fixed after two dealer visits, they added sound insulation), driver side armrest fabric peeling off (seen at first delivery of vehicle ), radio head unit freezes up randomly (dealer cannot fix because they cannot duplicate), steering is very loose and vehicle drifts on road (safety concern, dealer stated characteristic of tire), front grill loose on right side (dealer fixed) and seat plastic rail covers broken upon delivery (dealer fixed). vehicle also idles rough in cold weather (dealer stated bad gas).two to three second delay in acceleration (dealer stated this is normal). each dealer visit required me to leave the car once for ordering the part and a second time for installation. i have wasted way too much time at dealerships having my car repaired to ever consider buying another toyota again. over all i should have tested other cars before buying toyota based on its reliability alone. *tr

I am reporting the same stagnation issue that many others reported on 2007 toyota camry. i bought this car in march 2006 and started noticing this issue within a month of driving. so far i had at least 12 instances of this. it happens when i try to accelerate suddenly to a higher speed. the car stalls for 20-40 seconds before it speed up. many time it pulled me into risk while at merging to a main road traffic and at intersections dealer has replaced a transmission control component but this is still happening. the email i got from toyota for my query says that ...the electronic throttle control monitors the everyday driving habits of the operator and then tailors itself to make the most efficient gearshifts. on rare occasions when the operator fully depresses the pedal or depresses the pedal in an aggressive manner, the system may experience a delay in determining how to make the optimal gearshift. at this time toyota has no plans to make changes to the shift characteristics of the transmission. to minimize this condition, we recommend trying a firm yet gradual application of the accelerator... i am using the car for more than 18 months and the 'electronic throttle control monitor' has not succeeded in finding my normal driving habit and do the normal transmission shift yet as every driver expects. since toyota has no plan to do any action on this i urge you to do something for us. *tr

My husband & i purchased a 07 camry. a few weeks after purchase, husband noticed problems. transmission was not acting right. the car would hesitate for a few seconds when we given gas or sometimes accelerate when we did not; the brakes were bad; & steering column shook when we drove over road bumps or speeds > than 50. over next few months when we took the car in for service & voiced our concerns, the service person would tell us that he could not find anything wrong with the car regarding our concerns & during one visit, they drove the car 18 miles & still could not find anything wrong. one day i was getting on freeway & tried to increase my speed, the car stalled for about 4 seconds, as i looked in rear view mirror i saw another car coming behind me at a really fast speed. i was trying to determining what to do as the car appeared to have actually shut off, when it just surged forward & i was moving again. needless to say, this scared the crap out of me & i called my husband & told him what happened. i felt that if we did not do something, we could potentially have an accident, get killed or kill someone else. i finally called the corporate office & told them our story. they instructed us to take the car to the service dept for an assessment. after assessment the mechanic told me that my steering column needed to be replaced; my rotors were completely warped; and they may have to overhaul my transmission but were going to try & reset it to see if that would help (apparently it is run by a compt which tells it how fast or slow it to go when the accelerator is pressed) apparently the computer was not functioning properly or had a glitch. they reset the transmission & told my husband & i to drive an additional 500miles to break-in the transmission & let them know our thoughts. well, we have driven the additional miles & we both feel as if the transmission is slipping again. we are at wits end w/this dangerous $30,000+ car. *tr

2007 toyota camry. first problem within 30 days of owning the car was a loud clunking under the hood when driving car at different speeds. after mechanic test drove with me he could not feel the problem. he did not check under the hood and i did not leave my car. he told me to come back when it happened again. the second time i took the car back i left it over nite and was told the next day there was nothing wrong. i insisted they keep my car until they found what i was talking about. after 2 days i called them and they determined my transmission was bad and replaced it. they had my car almost 2 weeks. a couple days after the new tranny was put in i went on a 120 mile trip.i was extremely disappointed with my cars performance. it would accelerate at high speeds after i took my foot off the gas pedal and when i disengaged the cruise. it was a very dangerous and frightning situation when i came upon a wreck on interstate and my car accelerated instead of decreasing the speed. i took my car back once again for and oil change and to get the car check out and they said they fixed it with a computer chip adjustment. i took my car back again today because i am still having problems with automatically accelerating at low speeds.

In september 2006 i traded a perfectly performing 4 cyl 2006 camry for a 2007 4 cyl camry because i liked the new design. i still like the new design but have been quite annoyed and concerned about the car's failure to accelerate when needed. from a complete stop or near stop when a quick take-off is needed the initial response is at times zilch/zero/0. i have taken the car back to the dealer who had the computer recalibrated. this lasted for a while, but it did not solve the problem. i have not gone back because i believe the issue is greater than recalibrating. i believe this is a safety issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer. *jb updated 06/23/08.

The car slows suddenly while slowing down at around 40 mph and you will feel like some one holding the car from moving forward. and suddenly accelerates at around 25 mph even if you are not pushing the gas pedal. that day there was a traffic congestion on a highway and the traffic was moving around 40 mph. i was about to hit another car in front of me because of this problem, but i managed by braking the car with more force. i explained the problem to the dealer and took it to the dealer. the mechanic took a test drive and says the car is downshifting and that's why you feel that braking. and everything is normal. its me who is living with the car and it is abnormal to me. they applied some tsb (fix to the computer) but it not much helpful. *tr

I purchased a 2007 camry 4 cylinder in sept 2006. this is the 6th toyota i have owned and is by far the worst reforming. i have 8000 miles on the car and have had problems with the transmission since the initial purchase. the car is not safe to drive as it presently performs. it significantly hesitates when accelerating such as when entering a highway or changing lanes on the interstate. there is a noticeable 1-2 second delay from the time the accelerator is depressed and the car begins to accelerate. in addition, when in cruise control, the transmission seems to be searching for the correct gear with the engine revving up significantly as it downshifts while going up an incline. i have been back to the dealer 5 times and had the ny regional toyota rep drive the car. the transmission solenoid has been replaced, and a corrective tsb has been performed twice. i have also called toyota in california. the car still does not perform properly and is hazardous to drive. the response from the dealer and toyota has been the car is performing as designed. *jb

I purchased the toyota camry 2007 le automatic in may 07 from lakeforest toyota in gaithersburg md. it has only 2,980 miles on it. the vehicle experiences loss of power when turning in intersections. this occurs mainly on right turns follows stops at stop signs and traffic signals. when starting into a turn, the car occasionally fails to respond to the accelerator. you can press the pedal to the floor and the car may not respond or only barely respond. this leaves the vehicle stuck in the intersection with approaching traffic. performance is inconsistent with this problem occurring sometimes and not other. it has happened to me several time. i consider this a very serious safety problem that is likely to cause accidents and fatalities. frankly, i'm afraid to drive the car. i had one experience where another vehicle has to slam on their brakes and stopped within a few feet of my car when camry failed to respond to the accelerator. i won't make a turn unless i have two to three time as much open road as i did in my prior vehicles. toyota is aware of the problem. the problem reported on wcnc in lincoln county north carolina on sept 13, 2007. *jb

My wife and i purchased a 2007 camry le, 4-cylinder, 5-speed from toyota of orange in orange california. ever since our test drive we've experienced lack of acceleration (hesitation) from a stop or after slowing down to turn or proceed, shifting problems (constant up and down shifting at certain speeds; car not sure which gear to be in and feels like the car is surging) and unable to use the cruise control due accelerating too quickly due to downshifting and then overshooting the set speed. some of these symptoms are sporadic; you never know if the car is going to move or not when stepping down hard and quickly on the gas pedal. sometimes it red-lines before accelerating, other times there is barely any response at all. reported it to the dealer 3 times, had the software updated without noticeable improvements. eg036-07 is the latest ecm update,. we would never have purchased this vehicle if we had only researched the car beforehand on the internet. me and my wife could never get used to the gas pedal because the car responded differently every time. one day my wife came from work and attempted to park the car into a spot on the parking structure, she pressed the gas pedal and the car accelerated really fast driving through the wall almost into the community pool. i have stopped making payments on the car since the car is sitting in the garage and very upset with toyota since i reported the problem to the dealer 3 times and called toyota corp on the phone and received no help. *jb

I purchased my 4 cyl 2007 toy. camry le in 8/06. i felt this was an investment much like my other 2. however, by the 1st oil change i discovered the problem of hesitation and stalling when accelerating from a stopped position. after a complaint to the service department, i was told they could recalibrate the transmission and fix the issue. i allowed the adj. to be performed. the issue was improved for a couple of weeks but much to my dismay returned within a couple of weeks. once again, i complained to my dealer and was told that it was just the way the new camry was made to achieve better gas mileage and that if i wanted more power, i should have bought a 6 cyl. the salesman that sold me the car, offered the solution of me purchasing a turbo booster for the car. the cost estimated in the thousands. this was not an option. the problem worsened in the winter months, causing me many instances of close calls. on one occasion i made a legal right turn on red when it appeared the path was clear, a driver suddenly changed their mind to come straight into my lane behind me. i looked in my rearview mirror, saw the oncoming car, pressed the gas and the car went no where, simply coasted down the on ramp. i pressed the gas pedal to the floor and after a few seconds the car kicked into gear, redlined in rpms and finally took off allowing me to get out of the other driver's way. there have been too many other instances to discuss in this forum, however, this was the worst and most scary. i implore your organization to make toyota take responsibility for the problem and fix it. the calibration is not a viable solution b/c it does not cure the problem, merely stops the complaint for a few weeks. i have had this car for 1 year now and felt that i had no recourse on the issue any longer until the news reports came out. i have a renewed hope that your concerns will prompt further investigation and acceptable solution to this potentially deadly issue. *jb

When starting out, if it is necessary to accelerate quickly, my 2007 toyota camry practically stalls before finally picking up speed. it does not happen every time, but when it does it is unnerving, to say the least! it is quite dangerous, and i have come close to being hit several times. now i just make sure i have an excess of space before i pull out of a side street or parking area.*jb

I bought a 2007 camry (6 cylinder) with 6 speed transmission in sept. 2006. the transmission slips between 3rd and 4th gears when it is cold. it works normally after it has warmed up, although it seems to be somewhat indecisive, especially when accelerating. it has been back to the dealership for normal service three times. it has 15,300 miles on it now. the dealer service department wants to reprogram the computer but does not seem very confident the reprogramming will help. i will try this before i trade it for a new honda accord. so far no situations involving safety have occurred. *tr

From day one i had concerns with the transmission performance. it shifts very abruptly, up or down, at low speeds. hesitation is frequent and slippage occurs when trying to cross an intersection on merge into traffic, causing dangerous situations. i took it to the dealer, who claimed many times that it was normal, i must drive it more for the car to learn my driving habits. i filed a complaint with toyota, a representative drove the car, and express they would allow me to trade the vehicle, but later did not. after driving 3000 miles, took it back to dealer, now i was told that the car know my driving habits and when i try anything unexpected, it will not respond, this is normal. also stated that i do not know how to drive this new non-wire vehicle, but i have driven for 40 years, and that is now a liability. i got tired of taken the vehicle to dealer, and arguments that end up in being my fault, short comings or lack of understanding; the car is fine and operates as it supposed to. i will just get out of this nightmare as soon as financially possible and will never buy or allow any one i know to buy any other toyota product (or lexus). *jb

Bought 2007 camry se on july 23, 2007. have taken it back to the dealer 4 times for the following transmission problems: 1. transmission bogs down or hesitates when attempting to accelerate, for about 2-3 seconds. re-calibration of the ecm did not help. i have never been in a crash in my 24 years of driving, but within the first 21 days of owning this vehicle, i have caused three crashes to *almost* occur. the transmission hesitates when attempting to accelerate, then when the pedal is pushed down to the floor, it over-compensates and i've almost ran over the person in front of me. the other two times occurred when the vehicles behind me have almost run me over...their vehicles accelerate normally, while mine has a 2-3 second delay. 2. the transmission also seems to be confused when driving between the speeds of 28 to 35, 38 to 42, and 45 to 51. it shifts continually and at this rate, this transmission will be wore out by 37,000 miles (but they won't care, because by then the warranty will be expired). this is clearly an unsafe situation and *someone* needs to do something about it before it causes a fatal crash. *tr

Vehicle information: 2007 camry se v6 purchased in toronto, ontario, canada in sep 2007 ? vehicle manufacturing date aug 29, 2007. deficiencies: 1) hesitation the vehicle would not respond to acceleration (even with full throttle) after driving in heavy traffic (stop and go) or driving very passively. this symptom is consistence and hesitation is long and common is 80 klm speed. the vehicle does not down shift at all. change my dealer after reporting it twice with no action. new dealer has acknowledged the problem and has reprogrammed the transmission chip as per tsb. (will pick up the vehicle today) 2) crackling noise from control are and dashboard next to windshield during entire cold season. noises appear every few second. over 90% of the problem disappears during warmer weather. change my dealer after reporting it twice with no action. new dealer has acknowledged the problem and has added additional insulation as per tsb to control area only. the dashboard noise next to windshield could not be replicated. i have to bring the vehicle to dealer during winter month to replicate the problem before any action is taken. 3) thumping noise from rear end of the vehicle on bumps (like a lose watermelon in your trunk). again, first dealer did nothing. new dealer has acknowledged the problem and has added additional insulation to struts as per tsb, 4) high revving and transmission not in gear in sudden acceleration. similar response as you are driving a manual transmission and you continue to accelerate while changing gear. new dealer suggest that the reprogramming should take care of this. *tr

The design of how the vehicle is to operate and driving performance issues. poor acceleration, hesitation, automatic shifting of the transmission when driving. gas mileage is not as manufacturer stated. front tires wore out at 15k miles. per the dealership no front end problems found and do not know why the tires wore out so quick while the back tires are still good. constant pulling of the vehicle. if i hit a bump the car and steering wheel jerks to one side or the other. acceleration and hesitation is a safety issue. speed overshoot after hesitation. transmission seems to stop working when trying to accelerate. the dealership states this is how the vehicle is designed to run. i was not informed of the bulletin issued in sept 2006 regarding a download of new computer software or of the fact toyota was aware of all the issues mentioned. to my understanding it did not help any of the issues. overall the vehicle is hard to drive for fear of wrecking. i am checking into lemon law. the dealerships do not know how to fix these manufacturing problems. i have had these problems since the purchase of the vehicle and still are on going.

Toyota has taken an unconsciable position against a potentially dangerous problem with the 2007 camry with automatic transmission. they admitted the problem, which they preferred to call a concern existing in all 2007 camry four and six cylinder vehicles. the problem was a hesitation, or lag, when attempted to accelerate the vehicle. this occursrred at low speeds from a stop, turning. lane change, or forward movement about 80% of the time. i have been buying camrys and avalons since 1989 and have been a satisfied customer until the purchase of the 2007 camry xle, 4 cylinder with 5-speed automatic transmission. toyota has obviously weighed the cost to them of correcting the problem against financial losses from serious accident law suites. *ak

I slowed down the car at the end of an interstate exit ramp to check for traffic and thinking i had enough time to cross the intersection i gave it gas and got very little acceleration. when i pushed the gas to the floor i still got no more acceleration. i wrote the toyota service department to make an appointment to bring it in and received the response that they were aware of the problem, but at this time there was no solution so do not bring the car in. if there had been more traffic in that situation it would have caused a wreck. acceleration is also very erratic when using cruise control, going up a slight hill will cause the motor to race. also, it requires quite a lot of force to stop the car. *tr

I don't not if this is a power train issue or not, but this vehicle, 2007' camry le 4 cylinder can't seem to keep a set speed when in cruise. it is constantly fighting itself to maintain a speed shifting down then up several times. also, when taking off or slowing for a turn it doesn't seem to down shift into a lower gear. and finally when it does shift it throws you everywhere. i am very dissatisfied with the new camry for this reason only. i love everything else, but if this isn't fixed, i think this is the end of toyota buying.*ak

We recently purchased an 2007 camry le 4 cylinder/ 5-speed auto, and the hesitation problems had been an extreme nuisance from day one, and the problem may pose a considerable safety hazard. i took vehicle back to the dealership, and the service department said they had not yet heard of any such problems. my service manager and i agreed that the computer system may still have been learning my driving habits, and that it would resolve the problem over time. but nothing changed over the next few weeks. i recently took it back with around 8000 miles on it. the problem was the two-second lag in performance ,shifting from first through third gear. even though the car was running, it felt as though it just didn't want to go. the car hit second gear, and then, nothing! it didn't stall, but it fell flat on its face for about two full seconds before it got up and went. *ak my wife and i believe that this is a potentially dangerous vehicle. the extreme hesitation may present a hazard in traffic when more aggressive acceleration is needed. the car just dies when you try to accelerate. if you round a hard corner slowly enough for the car shift back into first gear, there will be nearly two seconds lag before it shifts up to second. if you have someone following close behind you, it is quite possible that you will get rear-ended. i showed the service manager my web findings, and we scheduled an appointment to have the transmission software updated. after that adjustment, the problem has improved, but is definitely not resolved. let me end by saying that our dealership has been courteous, helpful, and responsive to our complaints thus far. unfortunately, this problem appears to be out of their hands until a fix is found, or a problem recognized by toyota. *ak

We purchased a camry le in mid-january and have brought it in twice since then for issues related to the transmission - continuous shifting (or not) at speeds between 35 and 45 (even when trying to maintain a constant speed without cruise control), hesitation when trying to accelerate to merge or climb a hill, sudden downshifts when braking at slow speeds - and have been sent home both times with the message that it is operating the way it's supposed to be, that i just happen to driving at a speed at which it is more noticeable. i find this answer completely unacceptable. i happen to do a lot of city driving - mostly 45 mph and under - so i just have to live with it? the jerkiness of both accelerating and braking could be dangerous, and try as i might to get used to it, it is so unpredictable that i just can't ignore it. my teenage daughter is just about to start driving, and i won't feel comfortable with her driving this car until these transmission problems have been satisfactorily addressed. but first, toyota must admit that there's a problem!. *jb

History: automatic transmission began flaring when cold after putting around 400 miles on the new car -- gear wouldn't catch and would skip gears; in shop for tsb to correct problem, but didn't correct it; in shop again to replace transmission since corporate claimed that would for sure correct flaring problem; additional problems resulting from new tranny including strange whooshing noise on driver side, jerkiness when changing gears, and hesitation when accelerating; back to shop to correct; shop was able to remove whooshing noise, but jerkiness remained and flaring continued albeit at different times than it did before. failure and consequences: after stopping at a stop light, tried to make left-hand turn to join the interstate merge lane, but car would not supply enough power despite being in drive and pushing on the accelerator appropriately; barely made it across the intersection before having to pull over to shoulder to stop, put on hazard lights, and let other interstate traffic get by; theorizing that the transmission probably got stuck in whatever gear the car was in as i approached the stop light (3rd or 2nd) and then didn't appropriately downshift itself to get up to power coming from a complete stop at the stop light to cross the intersection; because the cars behind me were paying attention and roads free of ice and they saw that the car was not able to get up to speed, i was lucky not to be rear ended. what was done to correct failure: because it's been in the shop 5 times for bad transmission, not sure what they'll do to correct it -- that is pending. will likely request buy back due to safety concerns and apparent inability to correct underlying transmission problems. *nm

I'd like to file a complaint related to toyota's refusal to respond to their 2007 camry le, 4 cylinder hesitation problems. symptoms include (1) poor acceleration, (2) hesitation when accelerating (3) automatic shifting of the transmission when driving with cruise control on flat roads and (4)poor gas mileage. the hesitation is very dangerous; pulling out out in front of other vehicles or merging into trafic could be treacherous when the hesitation occurs. i have experienced this situation on several occasions and fortunately have not been involed in an accident yet but i sure others have! in addition to the dangerous situations, i am very disappointed that toyota has failed to notify customers of these issues. i called toyota in june, 2006, when my camry le(4 cylinder) had 1000 miles and questioned the transmission concern but was told that problems only related only to the 6 cylinder camry autos. since then i have struggled with the hesitating issues and am shocked that i was not made aware of know problems when my was has been serviced at my local toyota dealer. recently i was surprised to see many comments related to this issue on edmunds camry forums. i am now proactivetively researching and waiting for toyota to respond before i elevate the issue as a lemonlaw battle in new york. please, for safety sake, make toyota inform innocent 2007 owners before serious accidents occur. representatives at my local toyota dealer, stevens in huntington, new york, claim that they are not aware of the problem and toyota (usa) appears to be dragging their feet on notifying and elevating the issues! after several calls to the dealer and toyota(usa) i still am waiting to be contacted. sincerely john fleming 15 holiday park drive hauppauge ny 11788 631 360-3832. *nm

Car hesitates and automatic transmission shifts abruptly at highway speeds (55-65 mph). hesitation is particularity alarming. if i needed to accelerate quickly from a stop, this car would not respond. dealer states they have never heard of these problems, yet the hesitation on the 2007 toyota camry is well documented on web sites (edmunds etc.). dealer also tried to pass off this defect as this is a drive by wire car and you may not be used to how they operate. i have been driving for 35 years and have never had cars operate in this manner. if drive by wire is the problem, then this technology should not be allowed on cars. *jb

The 2007 toyota camry transmission lags and surges. the occurrence began with a jerk while starting from a complete stop and has progressed to a surge without depression of the gas pedal. if this surge forward were to occur on a curve or bend in the road at any velocity loss of control is possible. any surge while driving in hazardous road conditions could lead to loss of control of the vehicle. with the cruise control set at 75 mph the camry surged to over 5000 rpms multiple times during a 500 highway mile road trip. consequently, the cruise control was turned off and we drove the remainder of the trip without cruise control. we serviced our camry and nothing was found to be wrong with the cruise control but an update of the ecm is needed. this update was issued by toyota due to the number of complaints pertaining to the transmission in the 2007 camry. the dealership we use for service was unaware of the update issued by toyota until we informed them of it. *jb

While pulling into a parking lot on an incline the vehicle hesitated (did not accelerate) for 1-2 seconds while in the path of crossing traffic before lurching and accelerating into the parking lot at too high of speed. the hesitation and lurching occurred as the vehicle seemed to be searching for the right gear. this is becoming a more and more common occurrence during city driving (i.e. less than 40 mph). vehicle dealership tried to adjust this issue via software download over a month ago.(tsb eg056-06 recalibrate ecm) the technician said this download might solve the problem. since then the problem has become more common than before at low speeds, but less frequent at higher speeds. they acknowledged that this is a common problem with all 2007 4 cyl vehicles with ect, but no official fix has come from toyota. i have been having problems like this with the vehicle since purchase in march of 2006. the dealership and toyota have been notified numerous times about this issue and no resolution yet. my concern is that during winter the hesitation and/or lurching will contribute to a loss of control of the vehicle on snow or ice. *jb

Events leading to failure: automatic transmission exhibited 3rd-4th gear shift flare when cold daily after new car put into service. dealer repaired by replacing transmission valve body per mfgr tsb. failure: after valve body replacement, transmission developed new problem (and original shift flare problem persisted). after decelerating from 30 mph to 10 mph and coasting, made right turn at intersection and then depressed accelerator about 20% down. powertrain did not engage - vehicle was essentially in neutral, and began slowing down. disengaged condition persisted 2-3 seconds. then, a thunk was heard, the transmission engaged, and the vehicle harshly jolted forward. this defect is dangerous because loss of power for 2-3 seconds when attempting to accelerate could lead to an accident, especially if it occurs during lane changes, avoidance maneuvers, etc. what was done to correct failure: no action yet taken. will return to dealer for additional repairs. *nm

I own a 2007 toyota camry le 4-cylinder purchased 8/29/06. after a hew hundred miles, the car began to noticeably hesitate while pressing the gas. i noticed this while leaving work one morning. i was crossing an intersection, pressed the gas and the car hesitated for approximately 2 seconds before regaining power accelerate. ever since this incident, this car has continued to hesitate when coming to a slow stop and then accelerating to clear an intersection. when the power is needed, it's not there and i have had some close calls do to this loss in power. when coming to a slow stop to make a turn, and then accelerating after the turn, the car lags before gaining speed and you can hear the transmission hunting to get back into gear. when driving in stop and go rush hour traffic, the car hesitates when the gas is pressed and the car lurches forward shortly after that. this makes this car somewhat dangerous to control in tight areas such as rush hour traffic. i have taken this vehicle to a local toyota dealership on 11/1/06 to have tsb tsb eg056-06 (software flash) performed on my vehicle to assist with the improvement of the shift points. after this was completed, i really did not notice a difference in the shifting points. the following morning when crossing the same intersection i normally cross, the car hesitated severely again, in my opinion slightly longer than before the tsb was implemented. it is disconcerting to know that you can not predict how your car will perform in normal driving situations, therefore, i am nervous when driving this car anywhere at anytime. i have never owned or driven a vehicle that hesitated consistently like this and i hope this is an issue that can be fixed in an expedited time frame as this is a very serious safety concern while driving this vehicle. *jb

I purchased a 2007 toyota camry in september 2006. the vehicle has 16,000+ miles on it. the vehicle hesitates upon acceleration , and at times lunches into gear . this has caused honkning at us and harzardous conditions, especially when changing lanes on the freeway. there is a loud intermitent clunk when turning corners, backing up, and stopping. there is an apparent lack of power when the gears shifts in the automatic transmission. also, there is vibration when backing up with the air conditioner on. we have had the vehicle in the dealership several times and mostly get a song and dance routine from the dealership. they said that everything we were experiencing was normal or due to the computer design or emission standards. this is very difficult to accept since i have been driving for 50 years and have never encountered anything like this before. toyota has at this point not been able to resolve any of these issues. however, they did remove and replace the gas tank to eliminate the clunking problem, and i now know according to the dealership that it was not necessary. the clunking is still present. this car reacts like a vehicle with 200,000 miles on it that is in dire., it needs f a tune up and major overhaul. my wife was involved in a rear end accident 6 weeks ago, and now we realize that this may not have occurred if the car would have accelerated properly. *ak

I purchased a new 2007 toyota camry in june 2006. after returning the car to the dealership several times because of the sluggish acceleration from a stop was consistent and the passing gear downshift felt delayed as if there was a communication lag between the tcm and actual switching of the shift solenoids at speeds less than 50 mph. the cruise control will not set speed. on steeper grades and on the interstate the down shifts are very frequent and at times very dramatic. when cresting a steep hill the transmission down shifts at the crest and takes 2 or 3 seconds to release the throttle, picking up anywhere from 10 to 15 mph and i have to break suddenly in order to slow the car down. i was told by toyota representative that a technical service bulletin came out in september of 2006 for an ecm calibration enhancement to shifting performance and smoothness and this new computer software had to be downloaded in the car and this would recalibrate ecm (pcm) engine & transmission. the catcher to this is that the customer has to request this download before the dealership will follow through. if you don't know about the bulletin how can an average customer request this? the download was performed on this car but didn't help any. the dealership took the car back and i was given a new one in dec. 2006. same thing with this one. i have been through national center for dispute settlement with an appointed arbitrator who had the car inspected by an ase independent inspector. he agreed with the above but in conclusion stated that toyota should diagnose and repair as necessary. i feel that this is a no win situation for the consumer and toyota knows all about the problems but just doesn't know how to correct them. because of the lack of safety the lemon law should be put into effect and these cars recalled. toyota is not going to take responsibility unless forced. this is my first and last toyota vehicle. *jb

Throttle and transmission hesitation when starting out from stop, and when attempting to increase speed, ie: hazard avoidance, followed by speed overshoot. cruise control over reacted to slight grade increase, such as an overpass, by down shifting the transmission 1 to 2 gears and accelerating past set speed by 7 to 10 mph. car will slow to set speed and repeat the down shifting and acceleration until the cruise control was turned off or the road was leveled. during long up hill driving the cruise control has to be turned off completely as it presented a great possibility of causing an accident. the dealer maintaied s that the engine, transmission, and cruise control operated normally. *ak

This complaint is re: a new 2007 toyota camry le 4 cylinder with automatic transmission. this car will hesitate for a long period of time before accelerating from virtually any speed (behavior not seen when accelerating from dead stop), regardless of how hard the driver presses the gas pedal. problem occurs when moving at virtually any speed and then quickly pressing and holding the gas pedal down so as to accelerate quickly. this behavior is not like any other car i have ever driven, including a rental 2005 4 cylinder camry that i drove for a week in the colorado mountains last summer (2005). safety issue is that car is unpredictable in situations where one must move the car to avoid traffic. example: rolling forward into a left turn at a green light intersection, press gas to clear the intersection before oncoming traffic gets too close, the car did not increase engine revolutions and took over 1 sec. to drop into lower gear and begin to increase engine revolutions/accelerate. the car's failure to respond to gas pedal input was so long that i would have had an accident if i had persisted in the left hand turn; i had to turn the car parallel to oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the oncoming car. this behavior is repeatable and the delay can be up to 2 sec. in length before the car even begins to accelerate. this behavior is also seen by numerous other owners of '07 camrys as can be seen in postings on www.edmunds.com (click on forums tab and search for camry hesitation). the issue is not one of lack of horsepower. the issue is long and unpredictable response to throttle input. there are also very annoying drivable issues with this car that are related to transmission/engine behavior, but i am addressing only the safety issue in this complaint. efforts to resolve issue have not been successful; toyota's response has been that the car is operating normally and as designed. if so, there is a designed-in safety issue with this car. *jb

Throttle response delay in 2007 toyota camry (4 cyl. auto) camry - bought new 4/06 from toyota of nashua (nh). defect is a delay of 1 1/2 seconds in throttle response. delay was most noticeable at normal urban traffic speeds of 35 to 45 mph. a light increase in throttle at constant highway speeds in the 35 to 45 mph range resulted in the engine 1) usually not remaining in high gear 2) having no response for 1 1/2 seconds, and 3) then roughly down-shifting, as if the driver had called for strong acceleration. the car's speed sagged, and then the car's engine oversped. the driver then had to decrease throttle to prevent overspeed in traffic. pulling out into traffic becomes unpredictable and dangerous. delay and/or over-response in the throttle control's action may create skids on wet and icy roads. less experienced drivers may become un-nerved by this kind of throttle response. toyota's response to complaints consisted of these replies: (listed in the order in which they were given over multiple service visits) 1. we know what it is. it is the fly-by-wire control. they all do it and the owner has to live with it (spoken over the phone prior to the first service visit) 2. operating as designed.. this isn't a safety issue. 3. the camrys have a driver habit imprint feature which adapts to the driver's style. 4. the car is pretty much normal. 5. he has seen a few of these. (garage tech rep.) during service appointments, the dealership supplied three 4 cylinder, automatic 2007 camrys as loaners. none of these cars demonstrated the same drive-train behavior. the writer has been told of two other camrys which exhibit the problem: hey are serial #s: 4t1be46k27uxxxxxx and 4t1be46k87uxxxxxx a similar complaint is documented on-line in the car and driver magazine's user review. *nm

I purchased a 2007 camry le in late april. from the day i took delivery, there appeared to be a problem with acceleration; there were dead spots. that led to long 3 to 5 seconds lag times before the car would respond when pressing down on the accelerator. also, the transmission shifted into overdrive when a steady acceleration was all that was needed. i finally took it to the dealer today; i thought that i would allow a 'break-in' period to see if the problem resolved itself. the moment that i began to describe the problem, i was stopped and asked if it was a 2007 camry le. an affirmative response brought an answer that there is nothing that they can do; it had been reported to toyota. apparently to deflect what must have looked like rising anger, i was told that the service manger's daughter has the same problem. a call to toyota of america brought a response that the vehicle is operating as it was designed (so, i guess it was designed to stall when making a right or left turn, changing lanes on the interstate, trying to go forward, etc). my anger is 1) that they sold me a defective car, 2) that they know it is a factory defect but choose not to fix the problem (i can't believe that they are still 'thinking' about a solution), and 3) that i wasn't notified of this rather major defect (and why is toyota allowed to continue to sell these cars without the caveat that there is a factory defect that has not been repaired and toyota has no plans to provide a repair)? i have looked at over a dozen web sights where members have complained, but i have not seen a mention of the reason for the problem or a solution of what to do. someone is going to be killed by this erratic behavior. *jb
