Started hearing some wierd sound at a small turn from home to work. within a minute of the sound, found the steering totally locked and didnot move left or right and need to apply force to pull over to the side to stop on the highway. called allstate roadside assistance to tow the vehicle to pep boys and found the water pump broken. replaced it by them and it is running fine now.

While driving at low speeds (1-5 mph) backing up or forward - a clunking sound is felt on steering wheel. also, a bit of looseness is felt on the connection of the steering wheel and the tires. the clunking doesn't happen while driving above 10 mph. dealer (capital toyota in san jose, ca) told me that the steering shaft needs to be re-greased. i'm concerned that there are lots of other 2007 camry owners with the same problem, and some have lost control. *tr

While driving, pulling out of garage, turning right or left at town/city speeds and while at highway speeds (55mph and higher) a knocking, popping feeling is felt on steering wheel. when the knocking/popping feeling is felt there is also a feeling of loss of vehicle steering control. at times a slight lurching feeling also present. the problem was reported to toyota dealer, who inspected steering assembly and said they 'feel' the pulse but don't have a full diagnosis. during the months of sept/oct 2012 the problem got worse with more popping/knocking feeling felt at wider speeds and general steering control being lost more frequently. took the vehicle to another dealer on oct 5 2012 and they state that the steering shaft has to be replaced. more concerning is the dealer's verbal statement that this is a 'safety issue and you should not be driving' the vehicle. i contacted toyota customer service to check on recalls and they state none exist, but a tsb has been issued for this issue. they also stated (verbal) that if more complaints are received toyota may issue a recall. a simple google search with key words '2007 toyota camry steering shaft recall' yields 1000s of hits on users reporting this problem. i feel that this is a safety issue that is slowly arising. i have driven my car for roughly 18000 miles when the problem starts. dealer now wants approximately $600 to fix the issue by replacing the shaft. i am concerned about safety, not just for myself but for other motorists and feel that this issue requires further investigation by competent authority. to me it looks like toyota is aware of the problems but are willfully ignoring the issue. i may be contacted for additional information if required to assist any further investigation. thank you *tr

Purchased the vehicle from authorized dealer in 2011, had 24000 miles at the time. within one week returned to dealer because car was making noises as turning and at when braking steering column would shake. dealer changed a tire and rotated and balanced all and sent me home. after about 6 months, steering column is now continously shaking as brakes are applied. went back to dealer at 55,000 miles and dealer said this was unrelated to the original shaking porblem and diagnosed it as the steering column issue. i have the extended warranty so i will have to pay the $100 dollar deductable. next, my sun visor just broke on the drivers side, it just fell down and would not bo back up as i was driving. it was obstructing my view so i played with it and the thing ripped the cloth and then came right off. dealer will not cover costs and says it is not covered under the warranty. obviously a known issue.

I got a case number from toyota, toyota told me that the only way my air bag will deploy is that the motor would have to be in the car dash board to protect the driver. so she knows that the car air bag was working properly.

While driving 2007 toyota camry, the car was pulling to the left. i tried to control the car. the steering wheel locked up, the car went out of control. spinning and hitting the guard rail twice. the air bag didnt deployed, and the seat belt didnt hold or lock me into place while it was on. when the car came to a complete stop i turn the vehicle around from the on coming traffic, the brakes was giving out and the car was still steering to the left. i ended up in a ditch on the guard rail.

My car had been making a noise at low speeds; i thought it was a transmission matter due to age and wear and tear but a toyota garage informed me i need a new steering shaft. an online search showed other people with similar problems on the 2007 camry. this is my 13th automobile in my lifetime and it is the first on which a steering shaft has failed, although i have driven some of the other cars much farther. my previous toyota went 300,000 miles and never had such a problem. the estimated cost to fix the steering shaft is $540; i believe toyota should provide a recall and fix it for free.

I was stop at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green. when light turn green, i proceeded to make left hand turn into the undivided ramp. the steering would not return to the right. i turn the steering wheel as fast as i can to the right, but vehicle would not go to the right. on coming traffic hit me head on and collided head on with no air bags deployed at all. bruised on head due to hitting head on driver side window. insurance company had taken all parts for investigation. my left wheel was torn in half like it was open up by a can opening. ball joints were off also.

When backing or driving and turning the steering wheel i hear a clicking or popping noise in the steering system. looking on the internet it appears that toyota will run up a bill doing repairs when they probably know what the problem is.

2007 camry xle with only 23,000 miles now has power steering return line leak. it appears that the corolla is currently being invested for power steering problems of some sort. many parts used to build these cars are proving to be of inferior quality. this is a $250 repair. why isn't toyota being required to make all repairs for no charge to their recalled vehicles whether it is a known factor at the time or not. now they are giving something like that on new vehicles to encourage sales. what about all of us owners who now have vehicles not worth the money spent on them. shouldn't we receive some remuneration - afterall didn't the nhtsa receive millions?

Toyota camry 2007 - persistent vibration steering at highway speed - not being resolved by a series of attempts such as balancing, tire replacement, alignment, brake component replacement. the steering vibration was part of a toyota service bulletin but despite the specific instruction on how to fix the problem, the vibration was never eliminated. lately, vehicle also showing vibration when braking - also at highway speeds. brake repaired at dealer without results. toyota dealer has provided no further resolution option. the concern is if this is a result of the original steering vibration with the vehicle showing further deterioration.

A few weeks ago i started to notice a clunking noise when i turn the steering wheel while the car is standing still or moving slowly, like backing out of our driveway or turning into our driveway, parking lot, etc.... i finally had time to look it up online and see if i could find anything about it and of course i did. apparently it dates back to the '04-'06 camry and a problem with the steering intermediate shaft. there was a tsb announcement about the earlier issue, but none so far for the '07. from what i understand from reading the forums it appears to be a wide spread issue. i think there needs to be a recall.

I was driving for work with my toyota camry 2007. while accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. in a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. my car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. this incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommedations of the toyota recall procedure. i could have been easily killed in this accident. i got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. i am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error.

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry is dangerous and defective. i have being saying since my first maintenance check at the dealer that the car doesn't seem to be working the way it should. now it has been recalled for a sticky pedal. the problems i have are not a sticky pedal problem. the car lurches at times when accelerating. it lurches forward from stops. i have already hit a curb because of it just a couple of weeks ago. i have video footage of the road and the damage to the car from hitting the curb. i can email you the video footage. the car also seems to drift momentarily as if there is a steering synchronization lapse defect. when i mentioned these both to the dealer a year ago, the dealer's service tech said it was just the safety feature of the car working properly. there are split seconds when the steering wheel does not control the car while it is driving. this all seems to happen randomly. i wonder if toyota programmed the car to do this on purpose to increase the number of times i would need to have the car serviced. the dealership has so far refused to take the car back and cancel my lease. so i am still driving this unpredictable car every day. there is something wrong with this car. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that he noticed problems with the rack and pinion steering. when he drove approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would pull to the right and when he drove over a bump in the road, he had to hold the wheel tight in order to control the vehicle. he also stated that when turning the wheel to the left or the right, it would lock. the dealer told him not to let go of the steering wheel while driving over a bump in the road and that there was nothing wrong the vehicle. when the recall repair was performed, the dealer told him once again that there was no problem with the vehicle. after the recall 10v017000, vehicle speed control, accelerator pedal repair was made, the accelerator pedal stuck for the first time; however, he was able to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. he called the manufacturer and was unable to get any assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was 18,562. the failure mileage was 17,538.

I leased a toyota camry xle 2007 model from patt lobb toyota, mckinney, tx sometime in the last quarter of 2007. i have experienced the problem of sudden acceleration so many times and complained to the dealer three times, first time with in the first week of leasing, and they told it is due to rack and pinion steering which gives me a different feel, second time they blamed on my tires as they don't have enough tread depth and last time they can not replicate the problem. this problem always happened when i accelerate around 60 mph. *tr

The steering wheel flutters a lot at highway speed. this happens even in perfectly smooth road and in a little rough road the vehicle is uncontrollable. toyota known about the problem and has a tsb (tsb 01-06-08). however, dealers always ask to go for wheel alignment, balancing etc and does not want to fix as per tsb. this is a significant safety issue and must be considered as a recall. *tr

I bought a 2007 toyota camry brand new and had it 2 days when needing to take it back to the dealership for a front end problem. the subframe bolts were loose and needed to be tightened and aligned. i have worn out 3 sets of tires in 2 years. the car only has 50k miles on it. all different brands of tires used and the first 2 wore out at 18,000 miles but the last wore out at around 5,000. it has been on an alignment rack 3 times and each time needing small adjustments. the car also has a binding noise upon turning the wheel to the left. called dealerships and they will do nothing or even confirm that there is a problem with car. i am disguised. i have spent over $1000.00 on a car that is still new. help with all the money toyota is making they should be held accountable and have a recall on the issues and reimburse owners. i do not expect to put hundreds of dollars out on a new vehicle. *tr

Early in 2008 i was driving the car and turned sharply to the left at slow speed and the steering wheel did not return to center until i pulled it back. i went to a large empty parking lot later and noticed that when the wheel was turned all the way to the left or right it would not return to center unless you pulled it back. this is only at slow speeds. i took the car to desert toyota on 1/21/08 invoice number tocs263971 and they replaced the steering shaft noted on tsb st002-07. i drove the car after that and noticed only a small change and the wheel still would not return when turned sharply to either side. i returned to desert toyota on 1/30/08 invoice tocs264822 and they opened a case with toyota #080300212. on 4/18/08 invoicetocs273903 field technician loren muncee came to town to examine the car. he compared it to a car that was supposedly equipped exactly like ours and said it did the same thing ours did. he also noted there was no mechanical failures on 4/28,29,and 30 i spoke to toyota customer service and dealt with julie(1800-331-4331 ext 73115) i was told that toyota had done all they were going to and my next step, if i was not satisfied, was arbitration. i have the arbitration paperwork but have not submitted it yet. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. ever since the vehicle was purchased, there has been excessive vibration in the front end. the failure occurs while driving between 65-70 mph and causes the steering wheel to vibrate. the dealer rebalanced the tires, but the failure still persists a year later. a mechanic drove the vehicle, confirmed the vibration, but provided no solution. the current mileage was 13,200 and failure mileage was 12,900.

Front end shimmied when braking. found front tires were cupped. had just rotated tires, leaving on a trip, so rotated tires back to front. returning on trip, car front shook badly when braking going downhill in mountains. took to dealer, they said (bridgestone) tires showed cupping. replaced front brake linings and car seemed to handle ok. three months later, another trip through mountains, again front end shimmied badly when braking going down steep incline. dealer said all tires showed cupping, but brakes, cv joints, bearings were ok. suggested i replace tires (but did not try to sell me any???) installed 4 new michelin tires and car handles great although i still feel some dragging in the brakes. another trip to dealer, paid for a brake inspection and dealer said brakes ok 80 % remaining wear. car now out of warranty, told dealer i felt they were stalling me on repairs until warranty expired. they said repair record would show problem in past if condition continued. did not say what condition they were referring too. feel they are giving me run around on steering problem, but as they said, there are no mountains around here they can test drive. *tr

I bought a 2007 camry se v6 and have had nothing but problems with it. transmission slips, creaking dash and windshield, a pillar airbag cover replaced 3 times, center console stack does not line up, dash is not flush next to a & b pillars (haven't seen one yet that was), knocking noise in rear strut tower (fixed after two dealer visits, they added sound insulation), driver side armrest fabric peeling off (seen at first delivery of vehicle ), radio head unit freezes up randomly (dealer cannot fix because they cannot duplicate), steering is very loose and vehicle drifts on road (safety concern, dealer stated characteristic of tire), front grill loose on right side (dealer fixed) and seat plastic rail covers broken upon delivery (dealer fixed). vehicle also idles rough in cold weather (dealer stated bad gas).two to three second delay in acceleration (dealer stated this is normal). each dealer visit required me to leave the car once for ordering the part and a second time for installation. i have wasted way too much time at dealerships having my car repaired to ever consider buying another toyota again. over all i should have tested other cars before buying toyota based on its reliability alone. *tr

Clicking, clunking in felt in steering wheel, especially noticeable at low speeds, but can be felt at highway speeds also. dealer looked at problem and stated they repacked bearings in steering shaft. didn't make it out of the dealers lot and problem still there. when taken back to service desk, dealer stated that i needed to work the grease in and that it should go away in a few days, if not to call them back to have steering knuckle replaced. problem still there after 300+ miles of driving since having bearings repacked. *jb
STEERING - COLUMN

My husband & i purchased a 07 camry. a few weeks after purchase, husband noticed problems. transmission was not acting right. the car would hesitate for a few seconds when we given gas or sometimes accelerate when we did not; the brakes were bad; & steering column shook when we drove over road bumps or speeds > than 50. over next few months when we took the car in for service & voiced our concerns, the service person would tell us that he could not find anything wrong with the car regarding our concerns & during one visit, they drove the car 18 miles & still could not find anything wrong. one day i was getting on freeway & tried to increase my speed, the car stalled for about 4 seconds, as i looked in rear view mirror i saw another car coming behind me at a really fast speed. i was trying to determining what to do as the car appeared to have actually shut off, when it just surged forward & i was moving again. needless to say, this scared the crap out of me & i called my husband & told him what happened. i felt that if we did not do something, we could potentially have an accident, get killed or kill someone else. i finally called the corporate office & told them our story. they instructed us to take the car to the service dept for an assessment. after assessment the mechanic told me that my steering column needed to be replaced; my rotors were completely warped; and they may have to overhaul my transmission but were going to try & reset it to see if that would help (apparently it is run by a compt which tells it how fast or slow it to go when the accelerator is pressed) apparently the computer was not functioning properly or had a glitch. they reset the transmission & told my husband & i to drive an additional 500miles to break-in the transmission & let them know our thoughts. well, we have driven the additional miles & we both feel as if the transmission is slipping again. we are at wits end w/this dangerous $30,000+ car. *tr

Suspension and steering. i have noticed when i am driving on the freeway at a speed of about 60+mph, that any dips or bumps causes my cars to sway side to side, and the steering wheel jerks in a different direction. i took my car to the dealership on 11/11/06 and they could not duplicate the problem. i know why, because they did not do a true test drive. my car was checked in with 3544 miles and when i left the dealership something told me to check my mileage and it showed 3548 and at that time i was 1/2 a mile from the dealership. so, i know they did not take my car on the highway, so i will be taking my car back. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 40 mph, the contact felt that the vehicle was out of alignment. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they checked the alignment, but found no failures. a few weeks later, he took the vehicle back to the dealer because the failure was worsening. they still could not find any failures. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer a third time because he felt that there was an issue with the brakes. once again, the dealer found no failures. he took the vehicle to a different mechanic, who stated that the bolts in the rack assembly were loose. the mechanic tightened the rack assembly. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to inform them that another mechanic was able to locate the failure. two weeks later, the failure recurred. he filed for the lemon law. the vehicle is still not working properly. the failure mileage was 12 and current mileage was 20,000.
