When stationary at traffic light or stop sign. when a/c is turned on and brake pedal is depressed the entire car is drastically shaking an vibrating beyond controllability. when gear is in neutral the heavy vibration is gone away. was told by service manager that this is an normal behavior of all cars past 40,000 miles. was told that i would have to let the vehicle learn my driving habits again since the new throttle body component was installed. once the unit was installed correctly again engine lights kept coming on thus returning back to the dealership. took 3 attempts to complete the engine lite issue but the violent shaking and vibration is still going on. *tr

Complete transmission failure in upper gears causing car to suddenly slow down in the midst of heavy traffic on freeway. driver was able to downshift to 3rd (after nearly being hit from the rear) and safely leave roadway but many drivers would not be as quick thinking. there was no warning of any impending failure

While turning the toyota steering wheel, i can notice a severe clicking or thumping sound from the steering wheel. it appears there is a problem with the suspension or the struts. i took my toyota to get it check out a few months before the warranty expired. they indicated the struts were leaking. one strut was severely leaking so they replaced it. the other strut was also leaking but not as severe so it was not replaced. however, the steering column has the aforementioned noise and i know, through internet searches, that many owners have experienced this problem. it's likely a mass defect that should be looked at asap before someone is severely injured. my wife uses the car to take my children to school so i am very concerned about the safety of the vehicle.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle had keyless entry, which posed as a safety issue because the engine shut off while the vehicle was still in gear. she stated that most vehicles manually require placing the gear in park before shutting down the engine. the owner's manual stated that the engine would not turn off unless the vehicle was in park; however, that was not the case. she also stated that she had forgotten to place the car in park several times before due to the on/off button for the engine. as a result, the vehicle has rolled away from the driveway on more than one occasion. the failure mileage was approximately 40 and current mileage was 1,300. updated 09/10/08.*lj the consumer stated the engine did not shut off while in gear, but the vehicle can be tuned off while in gear, which could cause the vehicle to roll. updated 09/11/08.*jb

My 2008 toyota camry had problems from the day that i purchased it. i took it back to the dealer and also contacted toyota motor sales u.s.a. i have taken the car back to the dealer several times for the same problem. the national center for dispute settlement was called by the toyota motor sales u.s.a. and they also did not resolve the problem. i feel unsafe driving the car. the car races unexpectedly and lurches forward in stop and go traffic. i am afraid that the car is going to crash into something or someone. i have been complaining about this to the above since i purchased the car. the dealer kept my car for 8 days on one of my visits to their repair shop and told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. now that the toyota problem has been made public, i hope that my complaint will not be dismissed as before. i tried to ask toyota to buy back my car, i noticed the problem when the car only had 16 miles on it. can you please help? i kept all of the communications between the toyota and the ncds since the time i first filed my complaints with this problem. *tr

I purchased a 2008 toyota camry se with a six speed automatic transmission. the transmission started slipping at about 750 miles. it has gotten progressively worse. i thought maybe there is a break in period until it slipped when i pulled out of a parking lot on to a very busy street. the transmission just quit the engine raced but the car wouldn't accelerate. as i was in traffic i tried to coast to the right side of the road. i guess i still had my foot on the accelerator pedal. there was a loud bang and the transmission started working again. as i was trying to avoid an accident and was pulling to the right side of the road the sudden application of the transmission shot me up and over the curb damaging the right side wheels and the front bumper. i took it to the dealer and they told me there was nothing wrong and the transmission had no codes and they could do nothing about my concern. i researched this condition online after speaking with the service advisor to see if others were having the same problems. i found hundreds of cases just like mine. one referred me to toyota web site. there was a phone number so i called and told them what was happening. they gave me a case number and told me they would contact me. the next day a paul timberlake from toyota called and told me there was nothing they could do about it. he mentioned that the dealer fowler toyota in norman oklahoma couldn't get it to act up. he then told me the condition was normal. i was shocked. i told him the black spot on the curb was still there. he said well you cant prove it that the transmission caused the accident. again i was shocked. the problem is this condition is going to cost someone their life. there is a petition being circulated by owners such as myself. this condition is dangerous because it could and does happen at any time. mr timberlake also said the dealership told me that you have never changed the oil. i was again shocked. i changed the oil myself and have the recipt. *tr

The car severely vibrates even on low speed which makes driving like riding a horse. also it doesn't accelerate properly when i want to, which is really dangerous in many situations. it can cause accidents. there's noise comes from transmission and brakes all the time. i went to the dealer twice and the technician tried to play the idiot game by saying i see nothing wrong. i contacted toyota and they told me that if i'm crazy enough to buy their car, i should keep quiet. i moved to ca recently and with heavy traffic, the car becomes really annoying. *tr

I bought my wife a new 2008 camry in sept 07, it was doing great, the current mileage is 7,100 miles since 2,898 miles the transmission has been hesitating it seems it doesnt want to switch gears when it should this is an automatic, it appears to happen between 40-50 mph, i have reported the problem more then once to diehl toyota in york, pa where i purchased it, but was told problem could not be found or its not doing it now. or we have received little complaints about this type of problem. i feel toyota is giving the consumer a run around about a problem that has exited for at least 07/08 camry's someone needs to make them take care of this issue. by the way its bad enough to have the problem when your finanacing, but in my case i paid cash for this vehicle and feel cheapened. *tr

The camry has been hesitating on starting from a dead stop, since the day it was purchased. there are times when you really need to accelerate and it just doesn't move for two to four seconds. this is a dangerous flaw and can lead to an accident. i reported it to toyota, had the car in the repair center twice and they tell me it's a software limitation, and it will be solved. however, i looked into auto performance reports on the internet ad it's been a problem with the 2007 camry, which was never addressed for the 2008 model. *tr

I have a 2008 toyota camry xle with approximately 800 miles. i purchased the vehicle 2 weeks ago, and am already gravely concerned with the performance of the vehicle. on tuesday, september 4th i was merging into interstate traffic and pressed the accelerator for the necessary acceleration i needed to stay with the flow, but the car did not respond. the accelerator was almost to the floor, yet the car was only coasting. it took at least 2 full seconds for the vehicle to respond and it finally did jerk to life, but only after 2 cars had to jump out of my way (horns honking). this delay in response to acceleration input has happened consistently (daily), and i've had to modify my driving habits to remain safe. even with my own modifications, i'm still very concerned for my own safety and for the cars around me and other camry drivers. so far, no resolution from the dealer, but i will not stop here. *tr
