Defect SummaryToyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 camry, camry hybrid, rav4, corolla, corolla matrix, tundra, sequoia, highlander, highlander hybrid, yaris, scion xb, scion xd and pontiac vibe vehicles. the power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
Consequence SummaryIf the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
Corrective SummaryToyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their toyota dealer or the toyota customer experience center at 1-800-331-4331. general motors will contact the pontiac vibe owners affected by this recall and gm dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. those owners may contact pontiac customer care at 1-800-762-2737.

While driving the drivers side visor would not stay up and would not stay in the folded down position. it was hanging freely blocking a clear view while driving. i was able to get to my destination with the help of my wife holding the visor in the up position. i discovered that my only options for fixing this problem were to spend a good sum of money to have the dealer replace it or to just take it off. i opted to remove the visor. i feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by toyota. in doing research i have found numerous complaints from all models of toyota that address this same issue. *tr

My driver side sun visor will not stay up. it's blocking my view and when i googled i see tons of toyota drivers since 2007 complaining about the same issue. from what i'm reading it's only a matter of time before the passenger one goes as well. unfortunately, the driver actually needs to see the road and this breaking is a huge safety issue.

Both (driver and passenger side) sun visors are defective via disconnect and/or inability to move from windshield view (occuring only 3 years after purchase of vehicle new). also, vehicles electrical plug outlets also do not work, and have not worked since after 3 years of vehicle purchased new. searching online, it appears that both items are extemely common for 2007-2008 toyota camry owners, with at least thousands pleading for a recall as the fixes are extremely expensive, for an item that does not typically break with normal wear and tear, and is obviously not derived from wear and tear.
02/01/201138000
The driver's side sun visor failed to stay up, impairing the drivers vision at about 38,000 miles, and was replaced for $120. the passenger side sun visor is now failing to stay up at about 50,000 miles, impairing vision. this is a safety hazard and a defect among 2007-2008 camrys.

Drivers side visor was slipping and would not stay up in locked position. i could not see out of the front window because the visor would hang down into my view. i had to rigg something so it would hold it up.  The drivers side sun visor will not stay up, impairing visibility. i have been swinging it over to the driver window. this must be a design/quality problem that surely toyota can correct and replace without cost to the owners. i would like to repair it myself for now until a possible recall could be enacted.

With less than 18,000 miles on it both sun visors on my 2008 toyota camry have broken. in checking one of them i found a broken peice of plastic in it that caused it to fail. i did not have to remove the visors but did use a large binder clip to squeeze them back together so they stay up but cannot put them down in circumstances where i need to use them. if i leave them down my visibility is severly impaired.

The sun visor on the driver's side had been loose for a couple of months, then around september, it just broke and became floppy. we were unable to make it stay in raised position, and opted to remove it all together to be able to have good visibility at all times. the toyota company asked $120 to replace it. the car is still under warrenty, but we were told that the warrenty did not cover this part.

Both sun visors on our 2008 toyota camry have failed. the driver sun visor failed first in july of 2011. it began not going all way back to the top. after about a week it would not stay up at all and began to hang down blocking our view as we drove. as a temporary solution we began to push the visor to the side so that we could see in front of us - however it did make it did obscure our side view. within two weeks time, the visor was completely off the hinges and falling over/hanging from the corner. now, (november 2011) the passenger side visor has began to fall and will not say up.

The driver's side sun visor will not stay up ro down making it a safety issue while driving. it cannot be moved out of your line of vision short of removing the entire visor. this should be made into a recall issue due to the unsafeness.

Driver's side sun visor failed. it will not remain in the up position nor any other.....except hanging straight down. this is a tremendous safety hazard!!! after doing some research on the internet, i am finding this to be a very common issue. it is also happening to the passenger's visor. i have not contacted the dealer. this should be a recall by toyota immediately.

Both the driver and passenger sun visors became inoperable in a relatively short period of time -- first the passenger side failed at about 39k miles and then the driver side at 42k miles. the mechanism inside the visor that makes it stay up or keep it in a fixed position appears to be defective. this part broke which caused the visors to hang down with no support. the driver side visor failed on me while driving on the freeway which created a dangerous situation as it hung loose and blocked my visibility. the visor would not stay up; i had to hold it up with one hand as i drove with the other until i could find a safe place to pull over.

Around july 17th or 18th, my driver side visor broke and would not stay up, it was flimsy and i could not see because it was pretty much hanging. when i started to look around it and investigate what happened, i could feel behind it something sticking out. it seems as if the socket holding it in place just broke and in turn made it not stay up. i had to take it down because velcro would not hold it up and i just could not see with it hanging. i have not paid to fix it as it is costly and do not have $200 + to spare for a visor which should clearly have not broken especially since i am still paying for this car. i want this to be fixed by toyota. i called a toyota dealership to see if this would be covered under warranty but of course it's not and i've also read blogs in regards to this issue. apparently driver visors on toyota's breaking is pretty common.

My mother owns a 2008 toyota camry ce and the passenger visor flops down and it does not stay up in place. it happened when more than a year ago when the car merely had 30,000. i did my research online and found this is a common issue with toyota's. i called the dealer and they told me that its something i need to pay to get fixed. if it is something that is happening to many toyotas and is dangerous because it obstruct the driver view, toyota should be forced to recall and fixed the issue asap!! it is not right that we have to pay to fix something that is defective from the manufacturer.

In my 2008 toyota camry, both sun visors suddenly broke within a few days of each other and now hang straight down. it blocks the drivers vision, and the only way to drive is with one hand holding up the drivers side visor. this is obviously not very safe and of course one can only hold their arm above their head for so long - so no long trips in this car. the toyota dealer said the car is out of warranty (i bought it new 40 months ago) and charges $130 each to replace them (they can't be repaired). i even have their extended warranty, but the extended warranty company said the visors are excluded, because of the huge number of complaints about them. a quick internet search reveals that a lot of other people have had the same problem.

Both sun visors of my 2008 toyota camry broke off about 10 months ago through no fault of my own. the visors first began to hang limply, so i could not properly adjust them to keep out the sun. while trying to adjust them they simply fell off. the drivers side broke first and within 2 months the passenger side also broke. when the first broke i thought it was just some aberration, but after the second i realized there is something in the manufacture of the visors that is faulty. both occured outsiode of the warrantly window. it is now dangerous to drive in early morning and late evening, becuase of the lack of the visors. i will continue to follow up with toyota for reimbursement, but i felt it was necessary to notify nhtsa to see if others have had similar problems. thank you.

The equipment in question (defected sun visor) is in a 2008 toyota camry. the driver's side sun visor will not stay closed (in the upright position) since may 1, 2011. it hangs down & obstructs the driver's vision which poses a hazard for him/her as well as fellow drivers.

My 2008 toyota camry driver side sun visor broke in august 2009. they replaced it as it was within warranty. the passenger side sun visor broke in april 2011. they will not replace it as it is out of warranty, although i had been told it would be replaced as i suspected it too would break. the visor hangs down and impairs vision. i googled toyota camry sun visor and saw many similar complaints. many of them said when they contacted toyota, toyota said they did not have enough complaints to initiate a recall. they are giving us all the run around. i appreciate the nhtsa looking into this for us as they are clearly making their cars with cheap items that break and impair vision, then leaving us to pay for it.

Driver side sun visor support failed while driving. went to tilt it down and broke loose to a point where it just hangs straight down and swings freely and completely blocking my vision. had to hold it with one hand until i was safely off the roadway. there is no way it will support itself, so i had to tape or wire it up which makes it useless blocking sun (it's purpose.) *tr

My wife's 2008 toyota camry's sun visor has broken under normal use. the visor just flops down, impairing vision while driving; the visor had to be taken down, this should not happen on a car with only 48,000 miles. this happened about august 23, 2012. this is a safety issue, and should be replaced by toyota for free, not $200+ dollars. i will not pay the dealer fee, so the problem still has not been fixed. *tr

My visor on the drivers side will not stay in the up position or down against towards the windshield blocking the sun. it seems to be defective. i called toyota to see how much it cost to replace the part. i was advised $148.00 for the part. however the previous owner had also had this visor replaced prior to me purchasing the vehicle. this seems to be a big deal with alot of the toyota visors, but yet there is no recall on this item. i would like to have this issue fixed and not at my expense as this is a safety concern. if you put the visor in the up position against the top of the car, it will continue to fall down in front of my view. if you push it forward towards the window it again will come back towards me. if i were to get into an accident, it is right at my head level and could cause severe injury. *tr

Last year my passenger side visor went down with no apparent reason. i didn't think about it much, i thought it was a passenger pulled it down too hard, and i replaced it with a used visor from ebay. last week, my driver side visor broke and went down, so now i have no visor which creates a safety issue. i started looking online about this issue, and i see a lot of people complaining about this. this is definitely a design/manufacturing flaw from toyota, but i see no recall. i went to the local toyota dealership yesterday to see what they can do. they almost fixed the issue with no cost, but they said they couldn't order a new one until toyota issues the recall. now i have to wait months before they send me a letter. *tr

Sun visor broke with only 35500 miles on the car. driving east to work and west home is seriously dangerous without this visor, which was used under normal conditions (flipped down in the morning, up when parked and flipped down again in the evening). it's dangerous enough driving through 2 construction zones in the morning, but now i have to use one hand to shield my eyes due to the grades i drive and location of sun in the sky. this impedes my driving. i found the broken visor hanging useless after work on day and couldn't tape or rig it up so had to pull it off in order to see out the windshield! what would have happened if this broke during rush hour in construction? please do something about this problem. seems like a simple quality issue that should be fixed or recalled due to potentially dangerous driving situation. plus it's a $32,000 car and quality should be better than that of a $12,000 car. ## vin passed ## toyota camry hybrid 2008 ## *tr

Driver side visor broke. the visor's suspension no longer holds visor up and its affecting visibility while driving. customer service was contacted but they refused to take care of it and want to charge $120 to fix it. there are several complaints through out the internet of unhappy customers who are experiencing the same thing. it's unfair that owners are expected to pay for a part that should obviously be recalled. toyota won't accept responsibility and refuses to acknowledge this problem. models 07, 08 and 09 seem to be the ones affected. this is a major safety issue and should be consider as such. i shouldn't have to worry about something blocking my vision while driving. *tr

The sun visor for the driver and passenger became loose at no fault to the consumers and it won't stay up. when my car was in warranty the dealer fix the problem but it broke again. this is extremely dangerous as it blocks my view because the sun visor keeps propping back down. when i ask the dealer to fix it again, they wanted 120 dollars to fix each sun visor! reading other people complaints, it seems all the model of camry from 2007- 2011 have the same problems...yet no fix from toyota. toyota quality= declining. it seems like toyota and the dealership is making money off of defects and refusal to commit to quality control to sun visor. reminds me and others of the unintentional acceleration that toyota refused to acknowledges that led to deaths and injury until the c.e.o of toyota got questioned by congress. only then, toyota acknowledges the problem. in that case the acceleration would become stuck causing the car to accelerates. last car i would buy from toyota until the problem is fixed free of charges to all customers. honda, hyundai, ford, gm anyone?
