Have had continuous problems since my 2009 camery xle gas pedal recall was supposedly fixed. i didn't have a single problem with it before the recall was done and am now afraid to drive the car. the gas pedal has been sticking and binding up intermittently for the past month since the recall has been fixed. toyota says there is nothing else they can do.

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. he stated that the accelerator pedal would slowly return to the idle position on several occasions. he contacted the manufacturer and was told that recall number 09v388000, vehicle speed control, accelerator pedal. he was told to take the vehicle in to be repaired, if parts were available. the dealer did not have the necessary parts in stock to make the recall repairs. also, he stated that according to emissions standards, his liter fuel tank should get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway; however, he was only receiving 275-280 miles on a full tank. no repairs were made to date. the failure mileage was 11,864 and the current was 20,135.

This concerns the current toyota sudden acceleration problem and my interpretation of the mechanism that may be at work causing these intermittent events. these cars involved have toyota's new fly-by-wire ignition and throttle control system, not the old manual throttle controls. the acceleration events may be coming from stray rf or electro-static discharge (esd) causing an electrical state change in one of the throttle control chip registers which then causes the sudden acceleration. the problem could also be caused by the same rf or esd, but only affect electrical control units in cars that have developed bad ground paths (which allow static charge to build up until it arcs over and zaps a chip) testing for this type for electrical fault must be done under conditions that accelerate the failure mode, ie under conditions that enhance esd occurrence and/or stray rf while changing the resistance of the ground paths to the throttle control module. as a reference point, request toyota's history on all warranty replaced failed electrical modules involved in/with throttle control for these recalled cars. a hard esd event may cause complete module failure and hence a warranty record. a soft esd event may cause state changes on the module chips. a comparatively high module replacement rate would be cause to investigate them and do fema stripback analysis on failed warranty units. *tr

While passing a truck, step on gas to go into passing gear and the car went to full throttle. after the pass and letting off gas the car stayed at full throttle. turned off key and then restarted and car was still at full throttle. coasted to a stop, w/o steering or brakes, (no engine power). put car into park and then restarted. at that time it returned to normal operation. called dealer and was told they had not heard of this happening on a 2009 toyota camry(4 cyl). *tr

I purchased a 2009 toyota camry hybrid in may, 2009. for the first few months i got great gas mileage (around between 35-45 miles to the gallon) both in the city as well as on the highway. in the last couple months, the electric component to my engine has not been working like it has before and my gas mileage in the city is nearly half (about 21-23 miles to the gallon). at first, i chalked it up to a bad tank of gas, but months and several tanks of gas later, the problem still endures. the car should be harnessing electric energy when breaking and at stoplights. instead, it is using an absurd amount of gas. additionally, the electric engine will suddenly kick in when breaking suddenly giving the car a boost of acceleration while i am trying to stop the car. the whole reason i purchased a hybrid car was to reap the benefits of great gas mileage, but now i am getting far less than the regular camry model. i also feel that the sudden acceleration is a safety hazard. given the series of recalls toyota has currently had, have you received any other complains from camry hybrid drivers? *tr

Toyota camry 2009 -4 cyl. automatic. problem: sudden unintended acceleration.. the car is 14 months old. approximately every 2 months as i come to a stop, and while my foot is on the brake pedal, the gas seems to accelerate and the tachometer goes up to 7. by continuing to brake hard and shifting into park from drive the acceleration stops. but not before the car has lurched forward by about 4 feet. so far i have been able to avoid an accident or a death. i cannot select any of the items on the next page, i will simply tick off the first item. *tr
