I have a 2000 volvo s70 with the electronic throttle module problem. my car exhibits the classics symptoms already noted in nhtsa's findings. i just want to add my name to the list of complaints that volvo is not doing enough to fix the problem. the volvo dealership i have been taking my car to (in fife, wa) for chronic ets light coming on, car running rough, stalling, etc. will not replace the electronic throttle module even though the light keeps coming on, the car keep stalling and running rough, and going into limp mode while driving at high speeds. i have asked them if it not the etm then what is it? and they only told me to change the air flow sensor which i did and the problem keeps coming back over and over. i am beyond frustrated and concerned for mine and my children's safety because the car will lose throttle power on the freeway going 60 mph. when are they going to just recall the darn thing. what can i do. i called 1800-volvo customer service and they routed me right back to the same dealership who won't fix anything in the first place! elizabeth larson *tr

While driving from cleveland to roswell, ga, the electronic throttle control module failed in my 2000 volvo s70. this caused the engine to lose power and the power-steering failed. i had to pull into a parking lot beside the road. the engine completely stopped. after about 30 minutes, i was able to restart it. the local volvo dealer recommended replacing the module at a cost of over $1000. old part was not returned.*jb

Ets dash light came on, car began to lose power, would not accelerate. per the directions in the manual, i stopped for a while, restarted. the light did not come on immediately, but after several more minutes on the road, the ets light came on again. i was on a highway in another state with my elderly mother in the car. this was a weekend away to attend a family wedding. i sought the advice of a local car repair who informed me that the problem was computer-based and he could not help me. eventually, the car stalled and had to be towed about 50 miles back to my volvo repair facility. the electronic throttle system was replaced at a cost of $ $1131.60. plus the cost of a car rental for 2 days of $80.43, plus a tow of about $ $255. in addition, the towing procedure pierced the oil pan for an additional cost of about $925.00. so the whole expedition cost me $2,393.!!! the car has only 62,000 miles on it.*jb

While driving on the highway (just normal highway driving), i lost control of the car - the gas seemed to stick and the engine revved up and then the car just shut down. it seemed to stall. this happened twice before it took it in for repair. i took it to the dealership and they replaced the electronic throttle system for $2,000. it has not happened again but during other routine maintenance it was found that the throttle system was not functioning properly so it was replaced for a second time.

2000 volvo s70 glt-se; ets light came on and vehicle lost power on i-10 in heavy traffic. limped in to a volvo dealer. car was inspected by a volvo tech. the throttle body was out of factory specs. he replaced the throttle body assembly and reprogrammed it at a cost of $985.38. not what one would expect from volvo. this event not only was inconvenient but put my family in danger in heavy interstate traffic. volvo should make this right!*jb

Well, i've also joined the ets club at about 60,000 miles on my s70, 2000, to the tune of $860 bucks! it happened at the most inopportune time. while cruising south on i-95, june 6th, car started to run like it had water in the gas. after about an hour or so of that, the ets warning light comes on, so i check the owner's manual, and it says to turn off the car, and restart, and if the light comes back on, (you're in deep doo-doo) then head for a volvo dealer. well, it did come back on and about an hour later, the car goes into the limp-home mode of about 40 mph. fortunately we were able to limp into wilmington, nc, and luckily, parkway volvo was only about one-half mile from the comfort inn, where we crashed for the evening. parkway volvo was able to get to my car the very next day, replaced the ets module, and to date (23 jun 05) the car runs like new. the customer service and technical skill of the service manager (brent wells) are suberb!!! fortunatley, i asked for the old ets unit and have since learned that don wilson might to have it. i'm sending him an email (donwilson@comcast.net) to see if he still wants them for testing). i'm also filing a complaint and will support a class action lawsuit any way possible. it's unbelievable that volvo won't step up to the plate and take responsibility for this defect..... defective unit has these markings: marelli, 110541f2a, 00w080201; 9188793; 65cfm2; ah.0082030.k. note: the box that the new one came is is marked: volvo 8644347 made in italy

2000 volvo s-70 car stalled while traveling at any speed. i had to spend $1200 to have the electronic module that regulates the airflow and gas to the engine replaced. i did some research and found this to be a common problem with this model. volvo is aware of the problem, but is not recalling or reimbursing car owners. *nm

Driving to denver on sunday 10/8/2005 and my car started to miss and jerk severely. there was a lot of traffic behind me going well over 60 mph and no place to pull over. i almost got rear ended. i don't have the money to fix the car as i was told the cost is over $1000. it now does this intermittently so i can drive it part time anyway. *nm

Electronic throttle system in my 2000 volvo s70 needs to be replaced. my volvo stalled in the middle of an intersection, i didn't know why this was happening. 2 days later my ets light came on and i did some research about what this was and found out that there is some arbitration going on regarding 98-2001 volvos with this same issue and there is some talk about a recall. i feel that this is very dangerous, and if this were to happen on a busy highway going 65-70 mph and my car stalled, the ramifications could be tremendous. i feel that if there is such a big issue with this particular part on volvos that it should be recalled for the safety of the consumers who have purchased these vehicles. it seems to be the ethical thing that volvo could do. i took my car to the volvo dealership today (8/23/05) and asked them if there was anything being done about this issue and they told me no, that i would have to pay for it out of my own pocket until there was a recall. i had to pay $1200.00 out of my pocket for a defect in a vehicle that should be made good by the company who makes these cars.
